Is my mic broken? Or is it a technology problem?

My phone's speaker phone has stopped working. The other day I noticed that when I recorded a video...there was no sound. My phone works fine when talk on it regular. I've had the same phone for about 13 months now.

It could be either, hardware or software.
Start with just your regular reboot (sleep/wake + home button until the apple appears), update the OS (HT1414) and lastly if it's still happening do a restore as new, of course after saving your personal stuff.
If it's still not working afterward then it would be a confirmed hardware failure. Hopefully you're in-warranty or have AppleCare. Find out here

After reviewing your post, I have located an article that can help with audio problems. You may want to consider performing a PRAM reset:
A small amount of your computer’s memory, called “parameter random-access memory” or PRAM, stores certain settings in a location that OS X can access quickly. The particular settings that are stored depend on your type of Mac and the types of devices connected to it. The settings include your designated startup disk, display resolution, speaker volume, and other information.
Note: To print these instructions, open Help Viewer’s Action pop-up menu (looks like a gear), then choose Print.
Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Option, Command (⌘), P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
Turn on your Mac.
Immediately press and hold the Option-Command-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.Continue holding the keys down until your Mac restarts, and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
Release the keys.
Resetting PRAM may change some system settings and preferences. Use System Preferences to restore your settings.

I have unlock iPhone&my mic broken,Siri nor when people call can hear me unless I have earphones or during the call they have to be speaker . I bought it on Craigslist , so would apple fix it or does anyone know a place I can take it in ?

It also don't have the app for FaceTime ? Why is that

Basic troubleshooting steps clearly outlined in the User Guide are restart, reset, restore from backup, restore as new device.
If you have been through ALL of the troubleshooting steps and you're still having problems, then you'll need to bring your phone to Apple for investigation.

Reinstall (broken internal dvdrom, using firewire dvdrom) problem

I'm trying to reinstall Tiger on my iBook G4 using an external (fw) dvdrom, the dvdrom is recognized in OSX. The internal dvdrom is broken (has a disc that won't come out).
When I try to boot the iBook G4 from the mac os x disk in the external dvdrom, nothing seems to happen, the Apple remains on the screen and the process indicator keeps spinning..
I tried holding c; pressing option, command, shift, delete and holding option to select the Mac OS X install disk, each method gives me the same result :s.

It's the Tiger Install Disk, I think it's an universal disk, it didn't come with my iBook...
Most iBooks require a special version of Mac OS X. This could explain why you can't startup from that disk. Exactly which model iBook do you have? (Is it 12" or 14" and what's the processor speed?) Which version of Mac OS X is included on the Tiger install disk? (It should be printed on the disk.) Here's a list of which version of Mac OS X is required by different models of iBooks:

You may need to call Apple and get the right set of install disks.

Broken Ftp Connection and big files problem

I have a problem with big-files downloading.
Does anybody know how to resume downloading using FTP-connection?
Or how can I get bytes from FTP connected file using something like random access to avoid the restart of downloading the file?
"InputStream" does not support "seek"-like methods.

cause file transfer but skips over the file to the specified
data checkpoint. This command shall be immediately followed
by the appropriate FTP service command which shall cause
file transfer to resume.
You should also be aware of RFC 959 Section 3.4.2 on BLOCK MODE transfers which is what allows FTP to REST a connection and "skip" n-bytes of a file.

ILife broken! All started with iMovie problem, any ideas?

I have posted in the iMovie 6HD forums about a problem of it slowing down to a crawl and no one has been able to resolve that issue. I spoke to several employees at the Apple store about the problem & they ran it past a 'Genius' who didn't suggested reinstalling the entire iLife suite.
I did that yesterday and now none of the iLife suite will even open. When you click the dock there is 1 bounce and nothing happens. Dbl click the icon in the finder, it acts like its opening, but nothing happens. What went wrong? I've never had Apple software ever act this way.
I reinstalled the iLife software twice to no avail. Please help!

Did you run the suggested 3-pass Memtest? What did it report? What did the AHT say? If you believe that the hardware is OK, then it is a software issue. If so, and you have done a clean install from the ground up... things are indeed looking bad for you.
I would first run the 3-pass Memtest in single user mode as the instructions outline. This test alone will take several hours... unless your "lucky" enough to have an easily identifiable bad memory block. After that, and assuming the AHT passed everything it is now time to start from scratch. Install the OS and nothing but the OS. Do a clean install, not an archive and install (again, make sure everything is backed up to another drive). Take the new install out for a spin- does everything seem OK? Then start installing apps one at a time. If the iLife apps are your main apps, install them, run all the updates, and then repair permissions. Now how are the iLife apps responding (if at all)? If installing JUST the iLife apps on a clean install of the OS doesn't work, there is a high probability of a hardware problem which means now a technician would need diagnose the hardware problem. If the iLife apps work without any other software installed, then there is a high probability there is a software conflict with another program. Now it is time to install one program at a time trying out the iLife (iMovie) apps until you see which program is causing the conflict.

Arena Surround Headset - Broken USB Connector (Second Pair same problem)

I have a replacement pair of the Arena Surround USB Gaming Headset that you sent me to replace my first pair that had the exact same problem. The USB connector as come apart from the housing and the headset will no longer function. I already had to pay return shipping once for this same problem and do not want to have to pay to ship this item back again. This is obviously a defect in the production/design. Has anyone else encountered this problem? IT dosnt even look damaged in anyway, it just appears that whatever was used to hold it to the board just stop holding. Nothing is bent in anyway.
These were originally purchased from newegg in Februray 2010. You replaced them about a month ago.
I have been trying to create another RMA, but I keep getting a connection timed out when i submit the form.

Looks like that can be a hardware error, but go ahead and follow the other steps in the document.

Vocal buzz with Blue snowball mic

I'm recording vocals into garage band, with the track set for vocals with no effects, and I'm getting a lot of buzz/distortion. This is somewhat replicated in the acoustic guitar as well.
The levels in the track mixer are never clipping, and I've experimented with different input levels on the Mac system preferences, as well as with different differences from the mic.
Is there something I'm missing, like a separate input level by track, or for Garageband in particular?
Or do is the mic broken?

You should contact BlUE about your mic. I have seen reports and reviews stating that the Blue snowball was defective right out of the box.

The cable to my integrated webcam/mic broke

I posted a problem about my integrated webcam/mic not working a few months ago. I was looking for the manul so i could take it apart and look at the cable to make sure it was pluged in. I didn't have time to do this until today. When i did I found that one of the wires (the black one) that connect the webcam/mic were broken, I'm guessing this got broken when my fan was relpaced. I am wondering what this wire/connection is called and if it would be cheaper to buy a new one and install it or if I should just buy an external mic and webcam? I need to install the HP drivers on a laptop with a broken screen in order to get VGA port to work.

Oh my god please give me some insight here, it is so hard to find the right answers and I refuse to lose to this technical box that's driving me nuts! So here's the run down:
My screen broke on laptop...fine. It was connected via HDMI to TV and working fine. Until one day it decided to not turn on. I think due to Windows updates and hubby had no patience so kept restarting
I tried to reload Windows on it, not thinking about the drivers, and I'm pretty sure I managed to reload Windows. Now I need the drivers to install chipset, networking etc. (which I have a disc for)
The problem is I cannot see the screen in order to click "install", I can't see the BIOS or the boot sequence. Ugh! And even if I could, the drivers are not installed to use the CD ROM or VGA port.
I can HEAR Windows start up and turn on! Doo-DO-Doo-DO lol the darn thing is working!
The monitor works in my other laptop.
Would/Should the VGA monitor work if I could get it to start in safe mode?
I've heard of a program that can streamline the driver's into a Windows installation disc so everything is installed altogether but how can I reinstall Windows if the drivers aren't loaded for the CD ROM?
Is there a way to get the necessary drivers installed? or is this notebook now garbage?

Getting the drivers is not the problem. Getting the drivers installed on a laptop with a broken screen...is the problem.
Ok, well sometimes you can't use external monitor to see what is happening in some laptops and the only real way to fix this is to fix the broken screen so you can reformat and resinstall the system again. Those are you only options at this point in time.

Anyone else having mic problems after 5.1?

I updated to ios 5.1 and now Siri and the voice memo can't hear me unless I hold the phone to my mouth literally shout into the mic. Anyone else have the same problem? I think it's just the iOS update.

I have had problems with my mic, only since updating to 5.1 last week. Intermittently, during a phone call, I can hear the other person saying, "Hello, hello, are you there?" and sometimes after about ten seconds or so they can hear me again. But it goes in and out and is very frustrating. I've never had this problem before and have had iPhones for years. Will have to go to the genius bar I suppose. Hopefully I'm still under warranty.

Help getting my headset/mic to work with my Audigy 2 ZS I/O

I have an Audigy 2 ZS Platinum Pro with the external I/O dri've. I am trying to plug my headset/mic into my external I/O dri've, however I can't get the microphone to work. I have used the headset/mic with my other computer without any problems, so I know it is working. There has got to be a problem with the I/O connections or the way I have set up the Audigy 2 ZS.
Here are the connections I have made:
Headset speaker cord: Plugged into the external I/O hub headset port --- Works great.
Mic speaker cord: Plugged into the external I/O hub Line /Mic In port --- Doesn't work.
I have tried talking to a friend using Skype as well as using the Windows XP Sound Test Wizard, neither once picks up my voice from the mic.
Thanks for the help, I am at my wits end with this thing.

Audigy 2 Zs do have another ASIO driver for 24-bit/96 kHz. You need to set it acti've through Sonar Options..Audio..Drivers tab (when ASIO is selected as device). Unselect all I/O drivers there and then select those 24/96 I/Os. NOTE: 24/96 mode is for line sources only so, no Mic input w/ this driver w/o external mic pre-amp through line input.
Audigy cards gives best quality w/ 96 kHz so, it's best if you use it in your projects ... you can then, after final mixdown (to 24/96 WAV file), use software like Voxengo r8brain for SRC (96 kHz ->44. kHz) and dithering (24-bit->6-bit) w/ lowest quality loss (SRC and dithering made w/ Sonar don't give as good results).
W/ ASIO 24/96, or any other than ASIO 6/48 driver, you can record from one source at once only. W/ ASIO 6/48 you should be able to record from all separately listed sources simultaenously and w/ kX drivers maybe from couple sources more.

my mic on iphone, Hardly anyone can hear me, and i have to put my mouth up to the speaker and practically scream, please somebody tell me how i fix this? i live in Brasil,Brasilia and not have iphone assistence here, and the problem is not in software, i use v1.1.4, v2.0.0, unistall and install volumebooster and nothing!

Basically the only problem would be dirt clogging up the mic. wholes ... A hardware problem could be solved by opening up the iphone, and changing the mic. This wouldn`t be too hard for a skilled person, try GSM repair shops. And tell your friends to buy louder phones :)) Cheers !

I have the exact same problem. I just updated to 4.3.3 and now my inline controls on my earphones don't work. The earphones work, but the controls don't. It doesn't even recognize that there is a mic attached. Even with the earphones in it still uses the built in mic. Why did my controls stop working?!

Is my mic broken? Or is it a technology problem?
