Is my motherboard damaged?

Hello,
I have a 925XE motherboard. I'd like to know if my motherboard is damaged. I had installed a 512 DDR2 memory module in the green DIMM1 motherboard slot and it was working for months with no problems at all until the last week. The last week, I tried to start my computer like the other days and I was not able because I get a beep beep sound. I reviewed my computer and I didn't see anything wrong. I changed the position of the memory module to the orange motherboard slot (DIMM3) and the computer started. Then, I changed the memory module to the green DIMM2 slot and the motherboard didn't start. If I put the memory module in one of the two green slots, my motherboard don't start but if I put them in one of the two orange stlots, the computer works with no problems at all. Is my motherboard damaged? Can I fix this?
Thank you very much.
Kind regards,
Fermigo

yo bro, hmm i have this experiences before but my mainboard is MSI 655 Max, discontinued alreadly because of some issue, try flashing the BIOS and it might help .. if the symptoms still persist, you had to go to the supplier to change.

  • Bluetooth Unavailable (possible motherboard damage?)

    Hi,
A few weeks after I first got my Macbook (in around september of last year) My bluetooth module seemed to have stopped working. the icon in the top right corner has a squiggle through the logo, and says it's not available. when I go to the Bluetooth File Exchange app in the utilities, it says that it may not be connected to the computer. seeing as how it's built into it, and I have gotten it to work on a few separate occasions, I know that's not true. I don't have to use it that often, and that's why i haven't taken it in beforehand. (also, i think backing up this machine is a bit of a pain)
In any case, I heard recently that it might be a problem with the computer's motherboard. I'm wondering if this is in fact the problem, or if it's a simple error on my computer. if it is indeed a physical problem with the motherboard, i'm also wondering if it's worth it to go to the apple store for repairs immediately. I live near a store, but as gas prices are rising, and my students savings are not, it becomes more of a burden to get anything fixed there.
    any clues would be appreciated,
    Sam

Hello flxbbs!: Yes indeed you likely shorted out your motherboard &now face the prospect of getting a new one.
also what you can do in the future is try & wipe the keys with distilled water to get the pieces of whatever made the wine out of the next system then let it dry for a week.
as for the heating up of the palmrest that is due to the aforementioned pieces of whatever fruit leaving a sticky residue which is similar to dust.
    good luck
hope this helps & enlightens you
as a fellow chiphead & owner of computers I express my deepest sympathy & condolence to your loss!

  • Zen 20 gb damaged my computer's motherbo

Well, I wrote this before. After sent for checkin its comfirm that, my motherboard is officially dead. seriously, i dunno how this really happen but as i plug my Zen 20gb to my computer, it crashes my computer n damaged my motherboard. My motherboard is beyond fix n i need to replace new one. Now its kinda make me afraid on pluging my zen to another computer. Seriously, it really surprise me when my zen just 'killed' my motherboard. And before everyone could ask, i did install the program came with it, n also upgrade the lastest plugin, before i pluging my zen into my computer. I dun really wish this thing to happen again. Anyone here knows wat happen to my Zen 20gb, n how it can does something like that.

I myself find it hard to believe either, n also, i find it not amusing to have my motherboard damaged, leavin me computerless for few days. n worse is, current motherboard have somethin that doesnt support my processor, ram n graphic card which lead me to buy really out dated motherboard or change the whole thing.
I heard cases like Zen came together with virus, but my harddisk work fine, n it doesnt kill my brother's computer. just my thought why it happen to my computer. and i also doesnt believe how it can really kill, but it just did. i did install some program n plugin from the CD which lead my Zen to crush upon pluging into my comp. i d/led latest driver from this site, installed, n when i plug it for the 2nd time, my comp just freezed, instead of Zen.
now, i dun really dare to plug my zen simply to any other comp, fearin it will end up like mine.

  • Failed Motherboard and Harddrive?

    Ok here is my tale-
I have this macbook pro. It had its hard drive replaced just a few weeks ago. I finally went out and got a 8gig flash drive to back my docs and pics up on after going through this. Salvaged what I could from sources like facebook and such. A couple days after brining the mac home, it starts having problems staying on. A couple weeks go by and it won't even turn on so I take it back to the store. They say there's probably motherboard damage. Well, I'm not too worried since I have all backed up. Today, my flash drive gets stolen. I go buy a new one, come back and attempt to make the mac turn back on to make a back up again. Lo and beold it turns on-- Only to give me the flashing folder with quetion mark!!! BUT IT WAS FINE LAST TIME I USED THE LAPTOP. So....your opinions? Could the motherboard be causing the flashing folder? I don't hear any clicking noises. Is there a way to see if my hard drive data is still there without turning the laptop on? I'm not very tech savy folks =[ Please help. Just looking for the easiest and cheapest way to see if my hard drive is ok...

Start the machine up from your latest OS X installer DVD, choose your language, and open Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Select your internal hard drive in DU's left pane, click the First Aid tab in the right pane, check to make sure the drive's SMART status is "Verified", and if it is, run the *Repair Disk* routine, then the *Repair Disk Permissions* routine. Then try starting up normally from the internal hard drive.
If SMART status is not "Verified", replace the hard drive.

  • MB 915/G Combo MS-7058 video card options or suggestions on the new market

First off my apologies. I wasn't sure which forum to place my question under,
    Retired Motherboards or Video Cards.
Quick summary I'm looking to upgrade my video card on an older mother board and have run into problems with a new board working. I think the problem is a backwards compatibility issue.  I need help  with a list of what video cards I can buy that are available new preferably if not a list of where to go and what to watch for. I would like to increase the speed/ram. My skill level is around, open the case swap out the item and insert the disk. With a search forums and try to find the answer/follow directions or suggestions.
    In more detail,
I'm looking to upgrade my video card from NVIDIA GeForce 6 Series  NX-6600  256mb card on a an MSI 915P/G combo. The install/instruction manual lists under the above combo name MS-7058 (v1.X) ATX Motherboard and  below the image of the board there is also the text of G52-M7058x1.
The video card option for placement is in the sole PCI Express X16 slot (no on motherboard graphics and/or connection options I know of)   and I assuming from what I've tried researching that the PCI Express x1(mentioned elsewhere but all suggestions were cards no longer for sale) is some sort of standard of limit and my motherboard is too old despite newer cards fitting into the slot and claiming backwards compatibility to the "PCI Express or Pci Express 2.0".
Part of that possible assumption of my issue comes from the fact the mother board can have ether DDR1 or DDR2 ram for memory  but a video card with DDR3 ram would not work. Also the software from the included disk and from the from the website install correctly for the card to function other than the basic windows drivers leaving the card unable to run any games.   For reference the video card purchased and tried was a  EVGA Geforce GT 610 SC9super clocked) with 2 GB of DDR3 Memory. Which i hopefully will have returned for a refund soon.  I spent most of the day trying to install the software by their program , by launching from disk directly, from downloading the most current version from the manufacturer's website and checking with Microsoft for possible system change updates.
My original invoice August 2005 lists the  pre order lists the Item VGMS-NX6600/256E   then under description MSI NX6600-TD256E/PCIEX/256MB for the grand price of $169.00  deleviery receipt lists the card as item VGXM-X66DHEJTZ1   Description XMEDIA 6600 256MB PCIE DVI/TV
Power Supply 630 watts installed July 2008 I can not get the full listings of voltage and amps per connectors without taking the powers supply loose from the case(which requires shutting the system off, so I hoping I won't need to but will if the information will help). I do not feel power is an issue due to the size and the power supply was unneeded upgrade,  that I just wanted to replace when swapping out a motherboards damaged from a lighting hit or power surge. System was running fine for years.
    General system information
Windows XP professional SP3 All updates current.
    Intel Pentium 4 3.2 GHz
2.00 GB of Ram DDR 1
    Videocard  NVIDA 6600   Driver 6.14.12.9573
3 hard drives of varying sizes 500GB,1TB and 2TB  Plus one external  with external power supply 1.5TB drive
If more information is needed please let me know.
The best advice and help would be a list of currently for sale video cards that will work with links to places (and the actual model even better) like New Egg,  or if there is such a card at the local Best Buy(outstanding advice on this non compatible/working card....I won't digress into my own mistake of buying there). I'm way out of date on information and standards about computers and hardware and need help  figuring out what Video Cards to look at for purchasing.   Preferably new, then re manufactured with warranty then used...  The main game I play that strains my system but is playable is call of duty modern warfare 2 and would like to run 3 if possible. Although better rates with COD MW2 and COD 4 MW.

100% correct on the mother board
The card I had tried was EVGA---GeForce-GT-610 2GB DDR3 I can't post external links but it was from Best Buy. The  box claimed requirements are that it needs PCI Express or PCI Express 2.0 compliant motherboards with one open graphic slot.  The best I could get out of it was slightly working with Windows XP basic driver which no games would run. No selecting drivers helped from the Add Hardware program.
So I should make sure it lists "PCI Express X16" and  " version 1 " "1MB(in reference to what part?)" or words to that effect?  I was mislead by the box above for capability and "NVIDIA" on it, am I correct in assuming it was a generic whore knock off which bought the rights to stick NVIDIA name on the outside for a standard or software?  Especially since the actual video card says EVGA and not NVIDIA on it....  I won't make that mistake hopefully again.
Due to age I was buying a cheap fill in card,(old one was working fine but I figured a good training/practice exercise and to see how much better the games looked  to encourage me going forward on my first build) until I can start ordering and building to  the current upgradeable standards.   I'm trying to catch up on standards and not  have a firewire or zipdrive experience. Although I might put a 5 1/4 disk drive in unused bay for show    I would prefer not to buy another per-assembled option and decent computer part stores near me are lacking. Or I lack knowledge of their locations. If it matters I'm in Charlotte, NC USA
My budget is up to about $200 although I would like to stay around $100.00 (usa dollars) if possible. I think that gives me realistic options even with places like Best Buy. If I'm not, please correct me. I'm aware best Buy will give me a special 30-50% price increase  but my local options for shops are hurting, the "best place for reputation" is a story of shame.

  • Overheating of the hp dv6 3049tx while using it on the lap.

I purchased my hp dv6 3049tx less than a year ago. Since the very first day i noticed the left side of the laptop gets warm. I assume that happens because of the cooling system being on the left. The  problem is that even when the laptop is used on a table or a lap it becomes unbearably hot. I checked with other hp dv6 models and they all have the same issue. I have also heard of cases when the laptops got so hot that they popped open. What can I do about it.I am certainly not keen on cooking my lap.

    Hi,
I got same problem but i took it lightly.I bought same laptop Aug 2010.
15 Days back i got booting problem and seen motherboard damaged.I asked customer care they asked for new board which i have to give full price bcus warranty period ended last month.
If u have waaranty period go service center and change the motherboard imdtly.

  • Audigy 4: the afterma

I was in doubt whether to post this or not because of trolling, however anyone with a decent reading comprehension can judge for himself what I'm saying what I'm not.
3 months ago I made the unfortunate decision to purchase an Audigy 4 to "spice things up". Not that I had a weakling system, but I liked the idea of an extra, dedicate audio processor. After reaching a compromise between local availability of Soundblasters and my wallet, for about 70 Euro I could buy either an Xtreme Audio (ewww....) or an Audigy 4. Without dwelling into too much detail, the card worked more or less fine for 20 days before going from "fine" to "catastrophic failure" in the form of devastating BSODs and disk corruption, out of the blue.
My motherboard was physically damaged (YEAH, it DOESN'T work like it did before even with the Audigy unplugged). The Audigy was, apparently unharmed, but my onboard SATA controller paid the price, so I had to change the whole mobo.
    Anyway...what's the aftermath?
Paid Eur. 70 for the thing.<
Caused me motherboard damage for Eur 50 (if I only count the cost of the new mobo, old one cost Eur 30).<
Couldn't connect to a bog-standard front panel (and you-know-who, spare me the wannabe audiophile crap)<
Even if it worked fine, it would be neutered down to a codec under Vista, losing all of its value<
Creative has such a bad reputation, I haven't even been able to sell it even for Eur 30, that's less than half the retail price. People just told me openly "Wouldn't stick one of those in my box".<
By now I don't trust it myself, to be honest...at least I wouldn't plug it into a machine meant "also for work". I assure you I have more fearlessly (or foolishly) plugged in old PCI cards scavenged from dumped PCs just to see if they worked (ON MY MAIN PC) but I wouldn't plug that one card in...<
It ended up in the closet along with ISA and PCI video and network cards and ancient ISA soundcards. Oh wait...at least the network and video cards WORK...<
So..the Audigy 4 is, hands down, the most short-li'ved piece of equipment I ever bought, the one that was depreciated the quickest, and the one that has the least probabilities of being sold (I can more easily find buyers for an S3 PCI video card or an ISA-based modem, than for the Audigy 4). In other words, it's absolutely the worst "investment" I even made on hardware, in over 3 years.

Yes, it does report that the device is NOT emulated and HAS harware mixing:
    Certified: yes, emulated: no
Supports sample rates from 8000 Hz to 92000 Hz (continuous)
    Hardware memory: N/A
Hardware mixing: supported, 24 free streams (26 max)
    Speaker setup: stereo
And below (also on your screenshot, also):
"Note that this is what your soundcard driver reports; it may not match actual hardware specs in certain cases"
I mentioned 3 channels because that's what I remembered from the old mobo (it's weird, but different Realtek (or other manufacturers) AC'97 drivers report different numbers of channels, but typically in the 6-3 range, plus every single one of them insisted it's not emulated and that it does have hardware mixing.
Anyway, the ALchemy API alone can't magically bridge the gap with ALL older DirectSound 3D applications, so this is clearly a transition period. What bugs me is that the Audigy line gets severely depreciated under Vista (I couldn't care less because I'm not planning on installing it anywhere soon) but it DOES subtract market value to the eyes of the average goon...ehm, prospecti've buyer. ;-)

  • Help! MacbookPro screen went black

I am lost, my computer was on sleep mode and I went to turn it back on and the screen went black even though I could see a faint view of my screen in the background of the black screen, it was also making a lot more noise than normal so I turned it off and then it wouldn't boot up. It would start too for about 2 seconds, literally, and then the screen would go back dark. I took it to be fixed and had the hardrive replaced but it won't work. Is my computer a lost cause, is my motherboard damaged? Help ... What can I do I need it for school!

Apparently the folks who fixed it didn't. So take it back.

  • Lenovo t420 screen replacement issues

    Hey,
My screen cracked a couple weeks ago and i decided to order this screen from amazon:
    http://www.amazon.com/LENOVO-THINKPAD-LAPTOP-SUBSTITUTE-REPLACEMENT/dp/B004VUO2N6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8...
I followed a video online with directions on how to replace the screen. Im sure I installed it right but when I turned the laptop on only the backlight lit and nothing else. Ive heard that It may be a problem with the screen cable but im not too sure. Any help on how I would fix this would be appreciated.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

There are 3 parts involved (motherboard, screen, cable) and there is not much you can be sure of without some replacement parts to try. I will say that USUALLY, if screen damage causes motherboard damage, the motherboard fuse blows. Since your backlight comes on, it is not the fuse. I have found that if the backlight comes on, in most cases, the cable isn't plugged in straight, either on the motherboard connector or, more likely, behind the panel. If you don't attach the connector to the panel with new tape, it can pull out from one side or the other. Also, the cable connector behind the panel is fragile and easy to damage. Finally, your new panel might be defective. Cable not plugged in right or damaged is probably most likely.

  • Sony Vaio CR laptop minor water spill. HELP!

My daughter has a less than 1 year old Sony Vaio CR laptop.  Some water was spilt on the laptop when it was off and now it won't turn on.  Anything I can do other than GS service or manufacturer repair?  How do I know if it is a motherboard damage?  Cause if it is, I might as well just purchase a new one for her, right?

    Oh no,
    gracep!
    Accidents
do happen and hopefully you purchased a Best Buy® Performance Service Plan (PSP) or Geek
Squad® Black Tie Protection Plan with accidental coverage?  These plans won’t cover submersion but the
Accidental plans do cover small spills; manufacturer’s warranties do not cover
spills. Here is a tip for everyone with a keyboard spill.  Immediately remove the plug and slide off the
battery to turn off the power.  Turn it over,
keyboard side down, and open wide like an upside down “V." Place on a towel to dry for
about 24 to 48 hours.  Do NOT use a hair dryer as it will melt sensitive connections. Spill damage can
be instantaneous; there are no guarantees this will fix or prevent
anything.  Ultimately you will need to
bring to a professional such as your local Geek Squad®.  Cases like this tend to end in keyboard replacement
or a whole new computer.  Good luck!

  • Cannot boot w520 when on battery after removing power

Ok, so my w520 boots up when the adapter is connected. if i remove the adapter and keep the battery on, it boots. but if i remove the adapter and battery and then put the battery back on, it wont boot. but after that, if i add the adapter, it revives itself.
what is the problem? because i find it annoying if i remove the the battery, the machine wont work anymore and then i  have to get my adapter to revive it
heres some information. i spilt water on the keyboard and then wiped it clean but made a mistake and turn it back on thinking it was fine and left the battery in. (there was no adapter at the time) the machine shutdown after a while so i left it off. but i left the battery inside. i spent a day drying it and it ran normal. this is the first probelm ive encountered since
also, ive dropped my laptop a few times, i was wondering if it was the cause of it randomly shutting down (before water incident) when i picked up the laptop, it would just turn off. sometimes if i put it to sleep and carry it around, it wont resume again. all this happens even when adapter is connected
    also
when i connect the adapter after the machine isnt able to boot, the battery light flashes a few times before the light turns off. what does that mean
so is the motherboard damaged? and about the battery boot problem, is it something inside that damaged or is it the battery?
    Solved!

From my experience with W series machines, I would say something must have shorted out when you spilled water on the machine. Although a drop is also capable of destroying an internal component. Honestly this seems like a hardware issue and very difficult to debug online, I would just file a warranty claim. From my experience with Lenovo Warranty they are very prompt and they will probably end up swapping your board if anything.
Also, if you have the finger print reader enabled, try to power-on the machine using the finger print reader (Option is in BIOS and Windows) and see if that works, it could just be when you spilled water on the keyboard you ruined the power button and its no longer working properly?. Could just require a keyboard swap. (Takes 2 minutes to do it).

  • Sync on new IMac Contacts, photos, music and all without erasing from Iphone

My old computer's motherboard damaged and I bought a new IMac, I want to sync with my new IMac and it says all information will be erased and replaced with new Itunes contents, how do I sync with my new Imac without loosing my contacts, photos, photo albums, music etc..?
    Regards
    Hariche

    Welcome to the discussions,
Deselect automatic syncing and set up at least one contact and event on your Mac, this will give you the option to merge your calendar and contacts when your phone is restored from your backup.
To create this backup, connect your phone and backup manually by right clicking on your phone in the device list in itunes.
Transfer your purchases the same way.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414 and http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
Your phone will be wiped during your first sync and restored from the backup you made when you first connected.
Music and other media content can only be synced back if you bought it in the itunes store.
You'll have to use 3rd party software to be able to copy it back, search for touchcopy or similar programs.

I simply can't get the video card to work in the firts PCI-E port, however if the card is in the second port it works fine without the D-bracket locking the PC. Does someone know why this happened?, is the motherboard damaged?, or is there a solution to this problem?
Note: D-bracket is indicating a Memory detection test problem, but as
I said if the Video card is in the second PCI-e port the PC works fine

Could you add the list of your components to your signature (e.g. power suppy, memory, etc).
I am assuming that the SLI connector card is firmly in place and set for non-SLI operation and
that the video card only works when inserted into the slot that what would normally be used
by a second SLI video card.   Is this correct?
