Is my Netscape 7.2 browser compatible with Tiger?

I've recently upgraded to Panther which is compatible with Netscape 7.2 as my browser for my Earthlink email client (for email and bookmarks). Will this still work if I upgrade to Tiger at 10.4.6?
My other 3rd party applications check out okay for Tiger:
Microsoft Office v. X,
Intego NetBarrier, VirusBarrier, and NetUpdate, and
my current printer drivers for both hp printers.
I've noticed that Netscape's upgrade to version 8 is only for Windows operating systems.
Thanks.
Raymon

Netscape 7.2 should work with Tiger.
Intego software will likely need to get upgraded, and much of it is unnecessary, since Mac OS X has its own built-in firewall. If you want a firewall, it is better to have a router with the ability to do its own port management than use Intego's software which can slow down the Mac significantly.
The anti-virus software is somewhat more of a precaution for sharing with Windows users, as no real virus threat has yet been introduced to Mac OS X except a few Word macro viruses, though it is better to be prepared than not. I for one find the auto-virus detection systems on many anti-virus software slow down the Mac too.
There may be better updates of Office at http://www.microsoft.com/mac/ for working with Mac OS X 10.4. If you find those don't work, Office 2004 does work quite well with 10.4, and you don't have to upgrade to Office 2004 if you don't want to, as http://www.neooffice.org/ also works with 10.4 and it is free.
As for your HP printer compatibility, check the website of HP for updated drivers. If it says 10.3 and above, that does not mean it is 10.4 compatible. http://www.macmaps.com/printersx.html is my FAQ on printers and Mac OS X with more direct links to driver updates.

  • This machine is not compatible with Tiger OS X 10.4

Ok i'm trying to reformat my macbook pro
( 15 2.0ghz 2 gigs ram 80 gig hardrive, ALL UPDATES, FIRMWARE up to date.) I am not only unable to get it to boot from the DVD/install disk (I"ve tryed holding C/ reinserting the disk, turning it on holding C, booting from CD in startupdisk, holding c and my breath at the same time - pretty much everything. Obviously we've got a problem.
The disk is fine- reads fine, no scratches.
When I try to run OSX install from the DVD it says " Machine not compatible with tiger osx. Upon reading up on this **** it's acting like a firmware issue, however my firmware is up to date. I'm going on 3 hours of just trying to boot from my disk and I have to tell you all, I'm seriously thinking of just loading XP on this thing and calling it a night and an end to macs. I could have reformatted and loaded 4 computers if I were using XP. I appreciate any help, though and I know a lot of you are familiar grief and pain in here, so thanks for the help!

Thanks for all the help - I have wasted countless hours of my life on a computer, but I have learned. Tiger install disks are all for different machines. When I called apple for a replacement tiger disk for my macbook pro, I found out my apple care expired last month and that it would cost $40. As much as I would like to have one - i'm probably won't buy one, I'll look for "other" ways of getting one for sure.
Word to the wise - goto an apple store - they re-install tiger for free. Took me 15 minutes and cost me $0. I don't have a few apps like Ilife, and other meaningless programs that were originally on my macbook pro, but like I told the guy at apple, give me some bad news! I am so sick of macs, I"m still trying to get bootcamp to load XP over 4 days later- the pain is neverending, but thanks for the responses everyone, it's nice to know i'm not the only one in |-|ELL....

  • Is there an IE browser compatible with os 10.8.5?

Which Internet Exployer browser is compatible with iMac v.10.8.5?  I need the IE v. 8 or 9 to interact with a state government website.

The last version of IE that ran on a Mac was v5 and it is so old it cannot render these forums properly.
You can turn on the Develop menu in Safari (Safari Preferences > Advanced tab; check "Show Develop menu in menubar"). Then you can use its User Agent function to make the site think you have IE. However, if the state cheaped out and put up a site that will only work with IE, the User agent change may not work.
There are ways to run IE on the Mac without installing Windows via BootCamp. Search for Crossover Mac (payware but has a demo) or Wine (free, I believe). I tested the Crossover version and it installed a version of IE automatically. Worked pretty well.
I would contact my state senator of representative and tell them that any state-sanctioned site that can only be accessed with IE is supporting a monopoly and should be rebuilt to work with any browser.

  • Is Photoshop Elements 2 compatible with Tiger and iWeb?

I went to the Version Tracker site but could not navigate well enough to find Photoshop Elements 2. There was a lot about Photoshop Elements 4, but not 2.
I then went to Adobe.com to find information but without results. When I entered Photoshop Elements 2 I got routed to a long list of problems, but not the more generalized issue of compatibility with OS 10.4/Tiger.
So I return to this forum with the simple question: If I upgrade to Tiger and then to iLife '06, will my existing Photoshop Elements 2 be compatible with both?
Thank you in advance for any answers to my question..........
    — Lorna in Southern California

Regarding Photoshop Elements 2 vs. Photoshop Elements
4... these are simply versions of the same basic
program. You know how software companies do things.
They pack a couple more features in and give the
software a new number every few months in the hopes
of selling a few more copies.
James, the incident that stuck in my memory was about my cousin Dale, who is a musician. He was using a certain songwriting program and was not able to upgrade to Jaguar, I think (or Panther?) because, according to him, that music writing program would not be able to work on Panther! I extrapolated from that.........

  • Dazzle Hollywood DV Bridge compatible with Tiger?

Quick question for Dazzle users ... does the DV Bridge work with Tiger? I'm upgrading to a new iMac and I've read a couple of posts whereby some people have been unsuccessful in using the DV Bridge with Tiger.
If any Dazzle users are currently ABLE to use the DV Bridge with iMovie 5 and/or Tiger, would you please respond to this post.
    Thanks for your time.
    Take care & happy holidays.

About a year ago, when I was still on OS 10.3.x and QT 6.x, I started having a minor glitch with my Dazzle, in that it refused to recognize any device feeding through the Dazzle unless I also had a digital camcorder hooked up through a FW and turned on.
This still happens intermittently (for no discernible reason), so I've learned to always have the camcorder connected so I can quickly turn it on if need be.

  • NVIDIA 8800gt for Mac Pro (mid 2007 models) not compatible with TIGER !

Just tried to install Tiger on a hard drive while i was successfully able to use the NVIDIA 8800gt in Leopard on another hard drive and the computer would either stall or just have the gray screen come up. Brought it to Tekserve and they said Apple doesn't have firmware for this yet and it won't run on Tiger.. runs flawlessly on Leopard.. anyone have updates on this?

I purchased the 8800 card intending to run it with Tiger. I was assured both by the sales person I spoke with, and the engineer they checked with that it would work under Tiger. I even asked if it came with a driver CD and they said no, but it wasn't needed, it would "just work".
Of course, when I got it and put it in my Mac Pro running 10.4.11, it didn't boot. Then I realized there was a sticker on the box that said it required "10.5.2". I checked the product web page and it did not mention Leopard as a requirement. However, as of Monday April 28th, this was added to the web page. I have a screenshot from two days before which doesn't list it.
Anyway, I've returned the card and will be credited, but I am very disappointed. I can only conclude there was every intention to support tiger (probably with a Tiger Graphics Update 1.0 or some such) but this wasn't ready in time and they hastilty had to slap on the "10.5.2 required" sticker to the boxes.
Hopefully this update will come out at some point, and then I can repurchase the card. (I do not wish to upgrade to Leopard until the finder is fixed.) It would also be nice is there was a 10.4.12 release that supports the new Mac Pro's (hint: you'll get more sales if you do!)
If all else fails maybe ATI will have a new card out in the near future, and hopefully will support Tiger. I think they do a better job on drivers than nvidia anyway.

  • Is firefox browser compatible with my lumia 535

Iwas using Lumia 520 before &Firefox was running good. But now I cannot download Firefox with my Lumia 535

Both Lumia 520 and Lumia 535 are Windows Phones so there is no version of Firefox that worked on either phones and not planned for anytime soon. Whatever you used that was supposedly Firefox was not Firefox from Mozilla.
If you were using this then that is not even Firefox. http://www.windowsphone.com/en-us/store/app/firefox/6544df57-dd9c-4a61-bf89-9ba3832b849c
Firefox is only available for Windows, Mac OSX 10.6+ and Linux for desktop and mobile Firefox for Android 2.3+.

  • Snow Leopard Mail Backwards Compatible with Tiger Mail?

I need to revert fro working on a MPB Late 2010 running 10.6.3 to a PowerBook G4 running Tiger 10.4.11.
Can I do a Mail backup in Osx 10.6.3 on the MBP and then copy that backup to my PBG4 with Osx 10.4.11 and then open all the mailboxes in the older version of Mail?
    This is why: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2527206&tstart=0
    Hope the question makes sense.

I don't believe that this is possible. I seem to recall that Mail had to update the file formats (which ones? I dunno) when I upgraded to SL, so I imagine Tiger won't recognize them fully.

  • Where can I find a version of iTunes that is compatible with Tiger and access podcasts for me?

All the auto upgrades are installed - Tiger up to v 10.4.11 - but when I click on podcasts the window opens in a feedback loop to upgrade iTunes via the iTunes Store, where I cannot go anwhere without creating a new id and offering up my credit card details !!!!!!!!!  this isn't the apple I knew and loved.

Get more information about your computer. Go to the Apple in the upper left corner of any window, then  "About This Mac".  Write down what it says about "version"and report that here.  Now continue to "More Info..."  Copy and paste the information here, but omit the serial number and Hardware UUID (if present).
You can upgrade to Snow Leopard, but check system requirements first, particularly RAM ("memory") from the previous step:
    Snow Leopard 10.6 Technical Requirements - http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575
You can buy Snow Leopard at:
Snow Leopard disc source - http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
After installing run the updater to 10.6.8, then upgrade iTunes.

  • Is Time Machine compatible with Tiger OSX 4.4.11?

When I try to open Time Machine on my Power Mac G5, I get a message telling me I cannot run Time Machine on this computer.  However, I have data stored on an external drive and I cannot access it.

Time Machine was introduced in Leopard, 10.5.x.
Tiger 10.4.x doesn't even know what Time Machine is, so it obviously doesn't support it.
Your predicament is just another example why some of us happen to consider Time Machine  useless and have it permanently disabled.

  • A G4 running/booting off a lacie with TIGER 10.4.7

i have amongst many G5's , a G3 pismo and a G4 400MHZ desktop that i wish to have boot off of and run as if Tiger was their OS.
The pismo cant run tiger itself i think but could it boot off of TIGER if that was on an external 7200 firewire HD?
could the G4 run off of the Ext fw HD with TIger on it.
in other words the FW LACIE would run OS 10.4.7 from the PISMO and G4.
this way couldnt i run photoshop CS2, GB2 on these other computers??
    thanks

    Hi, Glenn.
The "PowerBook G3 (FireWire)" — aka "Pismo" — is compatible with Tiger. See "Mac OS X System Requirements."
Certain older Macs cannot boot from an external FireWire drive, as specified in "FireWire Booting: What Computers Support It and How To."
    • The Pismo should boot from a FireWire Drive.
    • The G4 may: the G4 will not if it is a "Power Mac G4 (PCI Graphics)" model. To see if the G4 is that model, consult "Power Mac G4 Models" for models introduced before July 2001.
    Good luck!

  • IBook died. Panthr. Can to save/transfr  info to another Mac? with Tiger?

Let's say a person for some reason didn't have a back up.
And then his iBook G4 stopped working and was advised not worth fixing cuz could buy a better, upgraded, but used Mac computer.
Can his info, all his docs and bookmarks and favorites, etc., everything, still be transfered from broke iBook to another Mac (a better mac, tho used.)?
Just take out the hard disc with all the info and somehow transfer that to a better mac?
And could he do that even tho his old Mac was Panther, and if a replacement mac had Tiger or Leopard on it? Would that work? Or would he have to remove Tiger or Leopard from the newer Mac and replace it with Panther to accept transfer of his older contents. And then assume he would have to go through normal upgrade procedures from Panther.
    Oh, he's so confused.
But so thankful for your help.

Some of the answers depends upon the "better mac". The other big question is why did the other computer die? Was it the drive that failed, in which case there is no point?
To keep it simple, in all likelihood you couldn't just swap the drives and expect it to boot another computer unless the new one happened to be identical to the first. What would be easy would be to put that drive into an external enclosure, or get one of those adapter things that don't need an enclosure, and copy off all your files, or just turn it into an external drive for backup, etc. Since this drive is coming from a laptop I don't think it will fit in a desktop without an adapter, and laptops don't have room for two drives (I don't think, never having owned one myself). You can have two drives attached to a computer, or even in a computer. The format of your old drive is compatible with Tiger and Leopard for the purposes of reading files, but as I said before I wouldn't try to boot from it, especially not if the new computer is a new Intel machine.
If it were me, I would get an external firewire enclosure, and put the drive in it. I would then attach it to my new computer and copy off my data files. I would then wipe the old drive and use it for backup or data storage. Some of this will also depend upon the size of the old drive. If it is a 20GB drive it is hardly worth the trouble of continuing to use it and the expense of an enclosure and I would just find (maybe borrow) a suitable enclosure for long enough to copy off data files.
