Is my phone unlocked for use with another carrier

I want to change carriers but continue to use my iPhone.  My contract is done so I need to know if my phone is unlocked.  I can't afford Verizon anymore and the service where I live sucks.

We need to know what iPhone and what carrier you are planning to go to To give you an accurate answer.

  • How can I get my old iPhone 5 (Verizon) unlocked for use with another carrier?

I have an iPhone 5 that was purchased with a Verizon Wireless account.  It is more than two years old and I have since upgraded it to a newer iPhone.  I want to give this phone to a friend in Germany.  His service will provide a new sim, if the phone is unlocked.  How can I get it unlocked so that it is no longer limited only to Verizon Wireless?

Good afternoon Weth!  That is completely correct. All 4G phones are already unlocked for global use. If you contact your international carrier and insert their sim card, it will be ready to activate on the international network. If you have any questions regarding the compatibility of the international network, please reach out to them directly. If you have any further questions, please let us know. Thanks so much and safe travels to you!

  • Is my Droid Razr Maxx xt912 locked for use with another carrier's SIM - either in the U.S. or globally?

Is the Verizon Droid Razr Maxx XT912 locked to prevent using another carrier's SIM in the U.S.?  Is it blocked to prevent use of another carrier's SIM outside the U.S.?
    Thanks

Hi MattFlash, that is a great questions and I would be happy to help! The good news is that all of our 4G devices would be unlocked and ready for use with another carrier, so the Maxx is ready to go. If you would like to use another carriers service you may need their SIM card and would then need to follow their activation procedures. Hope this helps!

  • Can i buy an iPhone at a pawn shop and get it unlocked for use with Straight Talk wireless?

Just wondering if I can buy a used iphone at a pawn shop or on ebay and get it unlocked for use with the prepaid Straight Talk wireless service? If so, how much would it cost to get it unlocked?

PHones can only be unlocked from the carrier; if you're looking for an unlocked device I'd recommand buying it directly from Apple as that is the only way to promise it is, if you buy it second hand you may find it is locked to a carrier who doesn't support unlocking, or worst yet activation lock

  • Unlock iPhone so I'm able to use with another carrier

The GM of our company has an older iPhone that was originally used on the Rogers network. Due to service coverage issues, he had to switch to Bell. He now wants to give this phone to his son for personal use on the Bell network. I need to unlock the phone first, yes? I called Rogers and asked them to do this but they would not unlock the device and advised I call Apple.
How can I unlock the phone so it can be used on another wireless network? I DO NOT want to jailbreak the phone...just unlock it.

Thanks. Do you know of anyone that has succesfully contacted Rogers and hand their unlock request granted? Both myself and my manager have tried, twice each, and have received different answers each time...Rogers is the most difficult company to deal with.

  • Samsung N150 - can mine be unlocked for used with Chuang Hwa Telecomm's prepaid data service

The netbook is marketed as global ready, and has a SIM slot.
I have owned this for about a year.
Next month, I plan to travel to Taiwan.  Chuang Hwa telecomm has a prepaid 3G data plan 500NT$ for 7 days that seems to be a very good deal.
Question is if the netbook (or the Gobi chip) needs a unlock code to use with a foreign SIM.
    Does any one know?
Better yet, has anyone used Chunghwa's prepaid data plan?

    Hello alin43:
Yes, that 3G prepaid data plan does sound like a good deal!  When using another carrier's 3G SIM, you must first unlock your global device.  If your device and line of service qualifies for the Unlock, this would be handled by Verizon Wireless Global Support Team.  They can be reached M - F 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM Eastern Time at 800-711-8300.
Let us know if this answers your question, and well wishes on your trip next month!

  • Buying iphone from Apple store for use with various carriers

If I buy an iphone 4 from Apple store (not subsidized), can I use it with Virgin Mobile's no contract plan?  Or do I need to buy it from Virgin Mobile?
And If, after a month or two, I decide not to use Virgin Mobile, can I switch to another carrier using the same phone? or do I need to unlock it or whatever?
I guess what I am really getting down to is this:  I want to choose Virgin as carrier because there is no 2-year contract locked in, i.e. flexibility to switch, and I am willing to pay full price for the phone.  But if, for some reason I don't like Virgin's service, or they to raise their monthly fee so that it is no longer competitive to ATT, VZ, etc., I want to be able to switch to another carrier with the same phone, and not have to sell it on the 2nd hand market.
I know I can just purchase the iphone 4 that Virgin offers for 350.  But if it only works with Virgin and no other carrier, then what is the point of not having tied into a contract?  The phone is useless unless I use it with that carrier.
I have not asked Virgin this question yet, because what I really want to know is, if an iphone purchased in an Apple store can be used "universally" across all carriers.  I kind of understand there is a different standard that ATT use as opposed to all other carriers, but I am hoping to find the definitive answer about iphone compatibility for all carriers that offer the iphone.

    3)  I assume VZ and S use CDMA.  So, an unlocked VZ CDMA iphone user can switch to S and vice versa, and that's it?
You assume correctly that Verizon and Sprint are CDMA.  However, no CDMA carrier will activate a device sold for a network other than their own.  In the "CDMA world" there is no such thing as an unlocked device.
    Spiral Aim wrote:
    4)  ATT unlocked iphone users cannot use same phone with VZ, S, Virgin, or whoever else offering iphones at this time?
An unlocked GSM iPhone can be used on TMobile and any other GSM carrier in the US, there are quite a few regional GSM carriers and resellers (like StraightTalk).  Not all features are supported/work and it's up to those carriers to get them working.

Now this is where it gets confusing, kindof.
The iPhone 4 is GSM or CDMA only.
The 4S and 5 are World phones meaning they have GSM and CDMA antenna's.  A CDMA 4S or 5 can be unlocked by the carrier (Sprint, Verizon, Virgin, etc) and activated on a GSM network.  Generally the carrier will only unlock for International carriers for the purpose of using GSM when the user is traveling and there is no partner CDMA carrier network for the user to roam on.

  • Can iphone be use with another carrier other than at&t

hi i would like to find whether can i used another carrier for iphone that i bought online from apple store?
i travel frequently outside US and i have signed up some local country prepaid plan. can i switch to another carrier when i m in oversea?
    thanks
    .ps about to buy iphone

I, too, am interested to know if I will be able to use a foreign SIM card when traveling overseas. I spend a significant amount of time outside the US and before buying an iPhone would need to make sure I could use the phone abroad with my other SIM card. The link above points to a FAQ that, alas, does not answer this question. It only mentions that the iPhone can be used abroad via roaming, which means paying AT&T astronomical data and call rates for international.

  • WRT54G3G for use with Vodafone carrier in Spain

I am thinking of buying a wireless router for use in Spain with my Vodafone account.  There they suggest WRT54G3G-EU for their PCMCI card.  My question is whether the  'WRT54G3G-ST Linksys Wireless G Router Sprint/Nextel' would function correctly in Spain.  Thanks for the help. David

well..i believe the wrt54g3g-st is specifically meant for the sprint cards and the wrt54g3g - eu is for europe ....
so noi doubt whether the wrt54g3g-st would work in spain ..

  • HP Application LifeCycle Management - URL for use with another Project Management Tool

I'm trying to find a way to get a ALM Requirement URL that will work with other applications.  The URL from the COPY URL option (when right-clicking on the requirement) works for e-mails but I can't seem to get it to work for another project management application (Daptiv).  We would like to insert the QC Requirement link to another application where the user can access the requirements directly when clicking on the QC hyperlink.
We have HP Application Lifecycle Management Software Version 11.00 Enterprise Edition.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

As Abhishek mentioned we dont need a calc manger or EPMA to migrate classic planning applications. You just need to log into shared services, expand file system and take a file system export, paste the export to the destination environment, now use it as a source and perform an import in the shared services of destination server. It worth having a look at:

  • Can I use my sprint iPhone 4S with another carrier if it's unlocked

Can I use my sprint iPhone 4S with another carrier if it's unlocked. Sprint will only unlock it if it's international. they will not unlock it if I want to use the iphone4s with another USA carrier.  Why? I have paid for the phone and don't have a contract.  I wanted to switch the SIM card and use tmobile or another provider because I am very dissatisfied with sprint service. Lots of drop calls and texting takes 15 to reach the other person.  It is horrible,,,, I hate sprint!,

Sorry, what others here have said is wrong, wrong, wrong. There is nothing about the hardware of the iPhone 4S that would prevent a Sprint 4S from being used on T-Mobile, or any GSM carrier, international or domestic. Nothing. Zero. Zip. Zilch. Nada. Each and every 4S is 100% hardware capable of doing both GSM and CDMA out of the box. The only impediment is that Sprint would have to authorize an unlock for you. This is something they simply refuse to do. If anyone at Sprint has told you that they can't unlock a 4S for domestic use with another carrier, they have lied to your face. This, by the way, is something they're doing with everyone who asks the question - just Google search "Sprint unlock iPhone 4S", and you'll see dozens of internet threads where people talk about being lied to by Sprint about this issue. The good news is that Sprint signed an agreement with the FCC regarding letting off-contract customers unlock their phones. The agreement takes effect in mid-March, and Sprint is dragging its feet until then. Once that deadline passes, if Sprint still hasn't agreed to unlock your phone, then they're in violation of the agreement, and you can and should report them to the FCC. I sure plan to. Then I'm going to switch carriers, to one that doesn't lie to me and keep fraudulent liens on my property.

  • Unlocked old iPhone 3GS for use with pay as you go sim in the UK on vacation. O2 sim works while ph plugged in.  Unplugged, works short time and crashes.  Sometimes won't even re-boot.  Software on phone up to date as far as 3GS goes.

I brought an old IPhone 3GS to the UK on vacation for use with sim card.  I had the phone unlocked with approval and instructions from ATT.  Store in the UK recommended O2 pay as you go sim which works as long as the phone remains plugged into the wall.  Once unplugged, it will work for a short time and then always crashes.  Sometimes it will re-boot and crash again and sometimes it will not re-boot at all.  One store told me to sync with itunes which I did on my Mac Book.  I don't know if the sim is defective or if the software of the 3GS is just not compatible with the sim when on the battery.  I have updated the software on the phone as far as it will go.  Any suggestions?  Maybe the phone is too old to use with the latest pay as you go sim cards.  I am disappointed that this phone has not been reliable as a pay as you go and I have had to purchase a UK phone here in order to have a reliable phone.

There is nothing you can do. You bought an illegally unlocked phone off Ebay. A lot of sellers there will tell you it is unlocked but the first time you try to update the operating system it will put the lock back on to the carrier the phone was originally locked to. Sorry but unless the carrier it was locked to will unlock the phone I am afraid you have a very expensive paper weight now. You should have bought it from a reputable dealer instead of ebay.

  • Switching to AT&T Cingular - best phone for use with Mac and iSync

    Dear Friends,
I am finally about to be free from Sprint's poor customer service. I will be switching to AT&T / Cingular. (Not quite ready to buy an iPhone, but don't want to be locked into a 2 year contract with another provider).
I want to use Apple's iSync. I have reviewed the list of compatible devices and scanned the forums for related topics.
    I'm still left wondering:
What is the best phone to get with AT&T for use with iSync?
I would like to sync contacts both ways. If possible, syncing cal events and to-dos would be nice, but not as important as contacts.
I prefer small flip phones. I don't plan to buy the Media pack service that includes text, web, etc. Instead, I will use the phone for calls and occassional text messages.
Sound quality and the ease of use are the most important features for me. I prefer raised keys to the flat keypads, but could give on this if need be.
Finally, using the phone as a modem with my laptop would be nice, but is not essential.
Thanks so much for any help you can offer.
    David

I am facing the exact same question regarding, e.g., the Nokia 6126. There are several references:
    1. Go to the Nova Media web site and look at their new product, Fone Link. Or their iSynch Plugins
    2. One of the forum threads references, http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20060915154526806
    3. Another link I found http://soapbox.co.nz/past/2007/4/9/nokia-6126-and-isync-revisited/
But what I don't yet understand is whether or not any of these suggestions/solutions are affected by the carrier. My understanding is that the 6126 is the North America Version of the 6131. But I talked to ATT/Cingular support yesterday and they make some modifications to the phone software. They don't know if the ATT 6126 will synch with a Mac. Of course they know the answer if synching with a PC (!!)

The T-mobile phone is advertised to be SIM-free.  This does NOT mean unlocked.  Unlocked iPhone 6's are not yet for sale in the US.
