Is my power supply enough for my Video Card

Hello, is this PSU good enough for my gfx card or should I upgrade it?!!
Intel Core i3-3220 CPU 3.30GHz
CORSAIR Vengeance 8GB 2 x 4GB DDR3 1600
WD Caviar Blue 1TB SATA 6Gb/s WD10EZEX
MSI N560GTX-Ti Hawk
Monitor ViewSonic VX2240w 22"
ASUS P8B75-V Intel B75 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0
HEC Cougar Evolution
PSU XFX Core Edition PRO550W

yes its fine but very close to its limits wattage wise but for amps your all good! so that card will work fine but do not get a x70gtx or higher as then you will be in trouble if you do so as they need more wattage to be stable!

  • Is my power supply enough for an athlon xp 2000+?

Hi, I have a TurboLink 350W powersupply, it came with my case, AND I'D LIKE TO KEEP IT
I have a Athlon 1.1ghz rite now, and i want to upgrade to an Athlon XP 2000+, and i was wondering, my power supply should be enough for that, right??
    +3.3/24A

im not sure about the +12, but look at Dell.  My dad has a 4600 w/P4 2.4 + Sapphire Radeon 9800 PRO, and dell only ships with 250W power supplies!! and P4's use more power than Athlon Xp's, and i dont have a radeon...i have a FX5200.  My dad even has SATA, so....i think my 350 is fine, but i dont want to pull my hair out [STRIKEOUT]if[/STRIKEOUT] my athlon doesnt work and i think its the motherboard or something, when its the P.S...., so.

I'll tell you how that is powered with that crappy PSU.
    1. Dell sells computers.
    2. They have an average 1 year warrentty.
    3. When they quit, see No. 1
A few years back, my mother bought an E-Machine (AKA: the green E of death) that came with a 185W PSU. The PSU has already gone out once, and due to the way it mounts, there was nothing more powerful that would fit in that case, so I replaced the crappy PSU with another crappy ($20) 185W PSU. Next time the PSU fails, I'll pull the drives, and toss the case/mobo, and start over.
As for Antec PSU's, well, look at my sig, you will notice I have a 300W Antec. While it is rather weak, the KT266A/KM266 chipset boards and eariler, generally do not power everything except memory from the 12V rail.
While other manufacturers still use the 3.3V and 5V rail to power most of the board, the 12V rail will soon be the most used rail on almost all motherboards.

  • Need Help with power supply reccomendations for my graphics card

    hi
i have a MSI GeForce GTX 780 Graphics card... i built my own system, i also got a rosewill rx750 power supply in it which i think is causing me problems, the computer works great until i get into games like titan fall and try and get into a game then it restarts the computer on its own.. has done this with a few games, but it works fine when surfing the net and so forth, i have read its to do with the power supply being week and also read my chosen power supply isnt that good... anyone got any recommendations for me that i should look at or am i looking in the wrong direction with whats wrong with my pc... any help would be great thanks

yes the PSU is  the most important choice out there and corsair and seasonic are the best out there! (never buy cheap PSU's as like abvolt said a cheap one can easily kill your more expensive parts)
Cheap PSU = made of the most cheap parts they could get "think cheap shanghai parts are used that may be of any quality good or awful as its just what they could get for the lowest price" (ever bought anything that was super cheap they break very easily)
Quality PSU = the use of good quality well made parts and will have very good testing done on them to make sure they are stable and pass very tight regulations and conform to specs for 10-30 different factors each.
a cheap low quality PSU I class as a paper weight as it will never go near a computer (maybe i would use one as a basic bench PSU for things i do not care if they die or just for testing a fan or something that rubbish dirty power is not really a major problem but silicon is not tolerant to dirty power and will kill parts)

  • E30 power supply/cables and upgrading video card.

I'm thinking of buying a decent gaming card, but I can't seem to find any power cables inside my system. The video card I'm looking at has a six pin connector on it. Also, just in case I need to upgrade the power supply, is the power supply unit standard ATX?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    welcome to the forum!
the E30 doesn't come with a PCI power connector due to it only being qualified to run the quadro NVS, 400, 600, and 2000/2000D workstation graphics cards.   you would need a different PSU entirely.   due to warranty and support reasons we can't recommend aftermarket PSUs in this system.
besides, depending on the GPU you're considering, the E30 might not have sufficient airflow to support it.   these are workstations after all and not gaming systems.
similar advice was given to another E30 owner in this thread.   i'm not sure what makes the E30 such a compelling gaming platform but to each their own.

  • Power supply died, and now video card is malfunctioning

I had the power supply in a 24in iMac (16 months old) replaced yesterday after the computer malfunctioned (Thought it was the hard drive, tech said it was power supply and seemed to have been correct).
The hard drive was formatted prior to sending it off to be repaired so i get it back and go to install Leopard and the resolution looks low. I install OSX anyway thinking it may be a software issue. But that didnt help. All menus have a slight pink tinge to them. Desktop background is pixalted and just ... low resolution looking.
The video card was fine before bringing it in. I can't see why it would suddenly do this. if the video card was messed up, I would expect it to just not display anything.
The monitor is set to 1920 x 1200 and it is correctly displaying at that resolution. It s just that colors are off and images are pixelated. Dont know how else to describe it.
    Any ideas?

    Here is an image.
Also the background image is sort of pulsating. Really strange. http://uploader.ws/upload/200907/Picture11.jpg
Edit: You may have to right click and open in new window
Edit 2: Just looked at this on my other computer and it looks fine... Ill take a picture with my phone but I assume if the screen shot captured doesn't have the display malfunction that I am seeing, it means the video card is dead? Or the logic board? Arggg.
Edit 3: Picture taken with iPhone so you can see what I see

  • External PSU (power supply unit) for Video Card

Hello guys. My 7979 6gb Radeon card arrived, but my Mac Pro only has 6-pin connections for video cards and two molex inputs, when my video card needs two 8-pin ports (or four 4-pin molex ports, 2 for each 8-pin), since I tried running the card simply using one molex for each 8-pin port (the card just turns off when I try to load a graphic intense video game, but otherwise runs) and it fails. To solve this, I am purchasing new psu tomorrow morning at best buy. 2 questions
    1. Since this psu will be external and not a replacement for the Mac pro psu, do I have to connect anything from the psu to the motherboard, or do I simply plug it into the wall outlet, and then plug the video card 8-pin cables into the psu ?
    2. The "requirements" on the video cards website says that I require a 500 watt CPU. But I believe this assumes a 500 watt CPU that is powering the whole computer (fans, ram, hard drives etc), so does that mean that getting a 430 watt psu will be fine since its exclusively for the video card? I read online that at max usage, the card only uses about 370 watts.
    Thanks

The PCI-e bus can provide 75 watts, as can each of the two 6-pin auxiliary power connectors, so you only need a 150 watt supply.  It is possible to mount it internally, below the optical drive.

Hello there, started to sinc my iPad 3 to my iPhone 5 with iCloud and a lot off the items did copy over, I was connected to a power supply but for some reason it's still missing half the items and I am struggling to retrieve them can you help please.
    Thank you Callum Gordon

Well the term "hotlined" I have never heard before. In any case many states (like NY) just passed regulatory powers to the State Public Service Commission of which it may be called something different in your state. You could file a complaint with them. Or file a complaint with your state attorney generals office, they also take on wireless providers.
The problem here is the staff you speak to are poorly trained, in days gone by it took one call to them and they pulled up your account and see the error and had the authority to remove any errors. They did not remove legitimate account actions, but used their heads instead of putting a customer off or worse lying to the customer.
Its a shame you have to go through what you going through.
    Good Luck

  • Is it possible to change Power Supply unit for Lenovo H420 PC ?

I have 2 questions really as i recently bought this budget system.....I was amazed to see that the PSU was only 280 watts for this systemwhich kind of limits what Graphics card I can upgrade to.
    My questions are :
    1) is it possible to upgrade the Power Supply unit for the H420 from the default 280 W to say to a 400 W one?
    2) If I cannot upgrade the PSU, what is the best performing Graphics Card that I can use in this system? It was pre-installed with a NVIDEA GeForce GT 520, which isn't the best around.
My 6 yr old Dell Dimension 8400 system with Win XP, which i have discarded allowed me to insert NVIDEA GeForce GT 240 card, which i think is a slightly superior card to the above one. Needed a 300 W PSU

Hi RBec and welcome to the community,
Is this your thread over there?  If not, it gives a few options concerning the PSU.

  • ITunes 12.1 for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) did not fix choppy playback

After reading all the other posts I tried installing the (64 bit for older video cards) and it did not solve my choppy playback with Music or Movies.  I am running windows 8.1, Intel i7-4500U CPU @ 1.8GHz, 8 GB RAM, 64-bit OS, x64 based processor, DELL Inspirion 15.  Never had problems until upgrading to 8.1 from 8.0.

Did you see if changing the Play Audio Using select in Edit > Preferences > Playback to "Direct Sound" resolves the issue?  Otherwise you may want to consider rolling back to 12.0 and waiting until a future release is shown to resolve the playback issues in 12.1.  See Turingtest2's notes on Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates for steps needed to completely remove all installed iTunes components, and for links to the 12.0 installers.

  • Power supply options for H530

I am currently running a Dell Dimension 2400 with 640 meg of ram and Windows XP. The computer has served me well for the last 6 years but I think it's time for an upgrade. We use our computer for basic email, web surfing and occasionally microsoft office documents. I received a email this morning that the Lenovo H530 is on sale for $399.00 (100 dollars off). It has 4 GB of ram, windows 7, 1TB hard drive, Intel dual core G3220 processor. It is expandable to 16 GB of ram. I am sure that this computer is sufficient for our needs. The only question that I have would be the power supply. The unit comes with a 180 watt power supply. I know in the past I attempted to install a video card in my old Dell and it wouldn't work because of the power supply. Evidently it did not produce enough power to run the system and the additional video card. Will I run into any issues if I wanted to install a power supply with more wattage in the Lenovo so I can install a video card down the road if I wanted? Thanks for your help

    hi johnfillippi,
    Welcome to the Forums.
AFAIK, you shouldn't have any problems or encounter any issue(s) replacing the stock PSU of the H530 as it uses the standard ATX form factor (the front panel connectors are also standard).
In addition, if you'll be using an aftermarket graphics card other than the one listed on page 49-50 of the hardware maintenance manual then you may want to check this article as you may need to alter some BIOS settings for the graphics card to work (this applies if the BIOS is UEFI enabled).

How Much Power Do You Need?
    Component         Requirement    Line(s) Used
    AGP Video Card           30 – 50W    +3.3V
    Average PCI Card        5 – 10W    +5V
    10/100 NIC                   4W             +3.3V
SCSI Controller PCI Card 20W            +3.3V and +5V
    Floppy Drive                    5W           +5V
    CD-ROM                        10 – 25W    +5V and +12V
    DVD-ROM               10 – 25W    +5V and +12V
    CD-RW                                        10 – 25W   +5V and +12V
    7200rpm IDE Hard Drive                 5 – 20W    +5V and +12V
    10,000rpm SCSI Drive                 10 – 40W    +5V and +12V
    Case/CPU Fans                             3W (ea.)    +12V
    Motherboard (w/o CPU or RAM)    25 – 40W    +3.3V and +5V
    RAM                                        8W per 128MB    +3.3V
    Pentium III Processor                       38W              +5V
    Pentium 4 Processor                       70W                   +12V
    AMD Athlon Processor                       70W                  +12V
For overall power supply wattage, add the requirement for each device in your system, then multiply by 1.8. (The multiplier takes into account that today’s systems draw disproportionally on the +12V output. Furthermore, power supplies are more efficient and reliable when loaded to 30% - 70% of maximum capacity.)

  • Elite e9150t - upgrading coolingfan/heatsink and power supply (suggestions for upgrade?)

    Hey guys,
I don't know why I didn't come here first, but here I am.
Basically, I have the HP elite e9150t model. Great computer... I've already upgraded a few things, but I am looking to do another little upgrade and would love to get some input. It's also Windows 8.1 Pro.
Alright, I've upgraded the ram to two 8gb kingston chips. I've also upgraded the video card to a GeForce 660 GTX. Now I am looking to upgrade my power supply and cooling unit. I've been running into problems where my computer will start to overheat when playing games. I can render out things easily enough with 3D software like Maya, but games make the system chug. That's why I've decided to upgrade the cooling unit and figured I should do the same for my power supply as well since it still has the 460w unit. I'd love to get this ugpraded to the point that I can play games with high settings and not worry about my computer dying on me from heat related injuries. I'm not looking to play games like Watch Dogs at the highest setting. I'd LOVE to have that, but I doubt I could squeeze that out right now. I would, however, love to play a game like Wildstar on their ultra setting (which I feel should be doable with my system).
Also, I am pretty much ignorant when it comes to computer hardware. When I say this, I am not exaggerating. I really have no idea what I am doing when it comes to this part of computers. Here are the two items that were suggested to me. Keep in mind, that I am on a budget right now (starting a new job next week after graduating this past week), so this is about what I can afford (this ~price range). I've also added a fan to the side panel of the computer (well I didn't, but the guy I bought it from did).
    First is the power supply:
XFX TS Series P1550SXXB9 550W ATX12V 2.2 & ESP12V 2.91 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Bronze Certified Active PFC Power Supply
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817207013
550 Watt for ~$25 after rebate. Can't beat that and the people that recommended it were saying that it's made by a great company (SeaSonic?)
    And the cooling unit:
Cooler Master Hyper T4 - CPU Cooler with 4 Direct Contact Heatpipes
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103182&cm_re=Cooler_Master_Hyper_T4-_-35-10...
It was actually suggested I get the TX3, but I saw that the TX3 does not support LGA 1336 that the HP has.
    1) Case size: I've tried googling what type of case I have because it seems like that is the jelly to any peanut butter question on power supplies and/or cooling units. Will my suggested items fit in the case I have? It looks like a tight fit in there, so I don't know how well they'll fit.
    2) Are the recommended items good: Again, I don't know anything about this stuff and am going purely off recommendations. Are these the items that I do need?
    3) Another thing bugging me about the video card: Not exactly on topic, but I have the GeForce card in there right now and it's huge. I also have a sound card, but the way the PCI slots are setup, I have to put the sound card directly over the GeForce card (and the Geforce card has a fan on top of it blowing up). This has the heat blowing directly to the sound card. I don't know if this is what I want to do? I read somewhere that I want the video card closest to the heatsink? Could I reverse the order and have the sound card below the video card and still get away with it? It's a nice sound card and it's being wasted right now (not even in the computer).
Alright, thanks guys. I know I wrote a **bleep** essay here, but I wanted to be detailed as possible. Thanks again for those that stuck through the whole thing lol...

    Hi,
I suggest that you do some measuring from the top of the processor to bottom of the removable side panel. You need this measurement to determine if your chosen heat sink cooling  will fit.
When you install the new power supply then install it fan up pointing to top so that is draws cool air into the power supply from the top side air intake vents.  Measure your existing power supply and look for a high efficiency model with a large fan that will fit in your PC.  If you can find a PSU with a 140 mm fan that will fit then go for it.
Additional cooling ideas: PCI slot cooling fan and vented PCI slot covers.
Your particular PC probably has a single width graphics just link my e9280t (same cabinet and mobo).
BTW--the truckee mobo is not spec'd for 8 GB dimms.
You have made lots of changes already to your PC so  saying that you know very little appears to be underestimating your own ablities.
