Is my refurbished iPhone locked to network

Hello. I bought a replacement refurbished iPhone off Apple after my vodaphone iPhone got water damaged. I have now sold the refurbished phone. Before selling it I put an orange SIM card in it and no errors came up and it appeared to work fine. The buyer is now saying he is unable to use the phone as it is network locked. Can anyone tell me if refurbished phones bought off Apple are network locked or unlocked please?
Thanks!

If the donor faulty iPhone was carrier locked then an out of warranty replacement from Apple Store will be similarly locked to the same carrier

  • Refurbished iPhone - Locked or Unlocked?

Hi there, I sent my Pay as you go iPhone 3GS into apple after it broke, it was locked to the orange network. I subsequently received a refurbished iPhone 3GS from apple, and I was wondering if anyone could tell me if this replacement still locked to the same network?
    Many Thanks,
    Chris

Thanks, this new handset wont be registered to me will it?
In terms of warranty, no. The warranty is tied to the device, not the individual. Before selling: Settings>General>Reset>Erase All Content & Settings. That will put the phone in a state just like it was when first taken out of the box.

This is a user forum. You aren't talking to Apple here.
Return your iPhone for a refund. There is no way to remove the Activation Lock. Apple won't get involved.

Apple doesn't unlock phones. You will need to contact the original cellular provider to determine if they offer unlocking and if you qualify.

  • Does sim-free iphone lock to the network?

    HI all,
I've been asking different question here recently connected to iphones and now I have one more question. Does sim-free iphone lock to the carrier of the first sim used in it? I've been using mine for a while and now i'd like to change mobile carrier. So, aren't there going to be any problems with it? Thanks in advance.

Apple does not use the term "SIM free" in any of their marketing materials.  If you bought the phone at Carphone Warehouse in the UK, it will lock to the first UK carrier used to activate it. It can not be activated on a foreign network unless unlocked by the UK carrier used to activate it. Other than that, so far as I'm aware, phones are "locked" or "unlocked". I don't know of anywhere else where things are done like they are at carphone warehouse in the UK.

  • Where can i buy a refurbished iphone

Where can i buy a refurbished iphone ?  Does apple sell them?

No idea but these are the precautions you should take if you find one
When purchasing an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch from someone other than Apple or an authorized Apple reseller, it is up to you to ensure that the device has been erased and is no longer linked to the previous owner’s account.  Follow each of these steps to make sure that you can use the device you purchase:
Turn the device on and slide to unlock. If the passcode lock screen or the home screen appears, the device has not been erased.
Ask the seller to completely erase the device by going to Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings.
Do not take ownership of any used iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch until it has been erased.
    Begin the device setup process.
After choosing a language, choosing a country, and connecting to a network, the device will begin activation. If you are asked for the previous owner’s Apple ID and password, the device is still linked to their account. Hand the device back to the seller and ask them to enter their password. If the previous owner is not present, they can remove the device from their account by signing in to icloud.com/find.
Do not take ownership of any used iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch until it has been removed from the previous owner’s account. You will know that a device is ready for you to use when you are asked to “Set up your iPhone", “Set up your iPad", or “Set up your iPod” during the device setup process.

is it possible to change imei number?
i've tried for so many times n still the phone is offline so i've set it to offline mode with my message but it never shows the last location why?

If the device is found, nobody can use it without knowing your Apple ID and password.
The phone will only show it's location if it is connected to cellular network or Wi-Fi. If those options are switched off, you can't locate the phone.
With iOS 7, Find My iPhone includes a new feature called Activation Lock, which is designed to prevent anyone else from using your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch if you ever lose it. It starts working the moment you turn on Find My iPhone in iOS 7. With Activation Lock, your Apple ID and password will be required before anyone can:
Turn off Find My iPhone on your device
    Erase your device
    Reactivate and use your device
This can help you keep your device secure, even if it is in the wrong hands, and can improve your chances of recovering it. Even if you erase your device remotely, Activation Lock can continue to deter anyone from reactivating your device without your permission. All you need to do is keep Find My iPhone turned on, andremember your Apple ID and password.
What steps should I take if I misplace my device?
If you ever misplace your device—whether it’s just lost or you think it may have been stolen—you should put it into Lost Mode immediately using Find My iPhone.
Lost Mode locks your screen with a four-digit passcode and lets you display a custom message with your phone number to help you get it back. You can also remotely erase your device if needed, and your custom message will continue to display even after the device is erased.
While Activation Lock works in the background to make it more difficult for someone to use or sell your missing device, Lost Mode clearly indicates to anyone who finds your device that it still belongs to you and can’t be reactivated without your password.
To put a device into Lost Mode, sign in to icloud.com/find from a Mac or PC or use the Find My iPhone iOS app.
For more information, read what to do if your device is lost or stolen.

  • Unlocking an iPhone to another network

Is there an easy way to unlock your iPhone to another network. I have an iPhone 4 which is on t-mobile and I want to put a Orange SIM card into it.
Don't fancy paying T-Mobile £20 for the privilege. I don't want to jailbrake it either. My sister did that to a 3GS and it cost me £130 for a replacement at the Apple store.

ONLY the carrier to which it is locked can unlock it.  No one else at all.

  • Refurbished iPhone

Is it possible to purchase a refurbished iPhone from Apple and how much does it typically go for. On AT&T they have them for 99.99 but its ridiculous how they make you sign up in order to get one.

I believe Apple sold some refurbished first generation iPhones, but I don't believe they have sold or are selling refurbished 3G iPhones.
At the present time, the iPhone is sold in the U.S. as carrier locked with AT&T only, and a two year contract is required - especially when AT&T is subsidizing some of the cost - no different from any other provider in the U.S. with subsidized phones. A cellular provider needs to recoup the cost of the subsidy provided and they do that by requiring a two year contract for the subsidy. Even if an existing subscriber doesn't qualify for upgrade or subsidized pricing and chooses to pay the full retail sales price for the iPhone, a two year contract is required since the original contract for an existing phone that was subsidized by AT&T was not fulfilled.
AT&T's subsidized price for the iPhone 3G when new is $199 for the 8GB, and $299 for the 16GB.
The non-subsidized price is $399 for the 8GB, and $499 for the 16GB.
AT&T is providing an additional discount for a refurbished iPhone.

  • My refurbished iphone 5 won't activate

Hi. I have a refurbished iphone 5 from UK and I'm living in the middle east. Have just bought a new SIM for it but I receive an error message when trying to activate this new phone:
"The SIM card that you currently have installed in this iPhone is from a carrier that is not supported under the activation policy that is currently assigned by the activation server. This is not a hardware issue with the iPhone. Please insert another SIM card from a supported carrier or request that this iPhone be unlocked by your carrier. Please contact Apple for more information."
    1. As far as I'm aware this phone is carrier-free at the moment - it hasn't been activated with any other carrier since being refurbished.
    2. I don't have another SIM to fit into my iphone 5.
    3. How do I fix this? Is this an issue my new carrier can fix, or does the phone need to be returned to the UK where I got it to be unlocked for use outside the UK perhaps?
    Thanks for any help!

    3. The UK carriers require you to be an active customer on their Network ,in the UK .
Customer can be PAYG or Contract BUT iPhone must be in UK for them to "see it "

  • Is Refubished Iphone locked by the country lock?

    Hi.
refurbished iPhone can be used in other country?
I unlocked the countury lock and used in Korea but I've got new one since I came back..
Do I need to unlock countury lock to use mine in Korean again?

If you got a replacement phone from Apple or through your carrier, it will be locked/unlocked in exactly the same manner as the original. If the original was legitimately unlocked, the replacement will be as well.

  • Are cdma iphone locked by apple just like GSM ?

Are cdma iphone locked by apple just like GSM ?

Only the provider the device is locked to can authorize the unlock. If they do not provide the service, then it cannot be officially unlocked. Also, if you have a SIM slot, you have a 4S, not a 4 if it is CDMA. The iPhone 4 CDMA version was CDMA only and did not have a SIM slot. Also, the GSM version that did have the SIM slot would not have CDMA capability. The way cellular providers work in other countries all differ. A phone that is locked to Bell, a Canadian network has nothing to do with Indian telecoms.
