Is my Skype account frozen somehow?

Hi there, I wasn't sure where to post my question but anyway it's been this way for about a week now. my account seems frozen in some way. I'm signed in, online but when I make a call to another skype account, there is no dialling tune (the blue thing just whirls around) and eventually fails or just rings out. The same contacts for the entire week look to be online which I know there not (no change in online&offline contacts). I uninstalled and reinstalled software on iPhone & PC but no joy. I sign in and the same contacts are'online' and I can't make any calls. Any ideas how to resolve this? Your help is really appreciated as Ive moved cities & skype is great for keeping in touch

seems like the usual syncing mystery to me.
IF YOU FOUND OUR POST USEFUL THEN PLEASE GIVE "KUDOS". IF IT HELPED TO FIX YOUR ISSUE PLEASE MARK IT AS A "SOLUTION" TO HELP OTHERS. THANKS!

  • How to find out Skype account name

Preface: Sorry, I think this is really simple thing but I tend to be verbose when I'm trying to describe the issue.  How would I find out what is my Skype account name? Or more precisely the login name? (I mean of course my own name is on the accout, but I want the "account" name, not the name on the accout, heh) I have an old hotmail account, which has become live/messanger/microsoft account and now after Messanger was removed, Skype account as well. I can login into any of these by logging from the Live/Microsoft account, but what is my Skype account if I want to login using that? On Skype program and website, both list my hotmail address as well as "live:hotmailaddess" part before @ character. But I can't login to Skype using the address, "live:address" or just "address". I can't find anything else on the pages. I tried logging out from the website and then using the recovery option "I want to find out my Skype account" (the website is in Finnish so my translation might not be accurate to what it actually is in English). I typed in the hotmail adress many times since the it asked it for many times a row and continued the steps, finally I typed in the address and capcha , then again it asked the address. I think I made a mistake there, because I think it actually wanted on the last time the alternative address. The website was not too clear about it specially since it wants the address so many times. It displays only a small portion of it and since my alternative address is practically identical to the main address, just an underscore is changed to hyphen, well...So finally it displayed "IF the account address is xxxx for whatever a code has been sent to it". Yeah well since I guess typed in the wrong address, I've received nothing on either. This whole ordeal started today few hours ago when  I tried to login to the **bleep** thing. I updated the Skype program, since an upgrade have been around for some time now, and since it always resets the autologin information, I had to manually type them in, and it kept asking for alternative verification address or phone number. There was no way to bypass that. Just to make it clear, it wanted me to give such info, not use the alternative thing since so far I've never given any alternative ways to login or reset account.
Somehow at first I was able to finally get in without giving any alternative info, I kept trying to login over and over, occasionally I tried to login using the "Skype account", but since I don't know the account I could only login using the Live/Microsoft account. Then I logged off from the program, and after that I tried to login back, it wanted to manually login again, and it kept asking from the alt details and I couldn't anyhow bypass that. I also tried logging into Hotmail/Outlook.com from the website as well as Skype(from website), both ways wanted the info but to both I finally somehow managed to get in. I mean the websites, logging inside the program failed all the time. Anyway finally I remembered I had made the second account so I figured I give it as alt address. I got that thing in OK, the second address just has hotmail.com, so I could easily login there by another browser and that didn't want any extra verifications. But before this last attempt, I had used the same "I want to know my Skype ID" feature from the program. To clarify, before linking the second address to my main address. But since I was having so much trouble with getting into Skype(and as well as it's Messanger part) I think I didn't check them out. Plus I had trouble getting into the mail as well, although I finally got in. Soooo...the two mails received in the primary address, "Your Skype Name token" messages which have a link and verification number, they won't work anymore. I try either, and neither works. My guess is they got invalidated by the third request or by either finally adding the alternative address. AND, since the third time I mistook it asking the same **bleep** address for the third or fourth time in the last request and gave the main address not the alt address it probably didn't send the code anywhere. And now I tried again the thing but it refuses to go any further than the first step, because it says I've used it too often in the last 24 hours. So, surely the account name should read someplace?I repeat, I can perfectly login into Skype in web and the program, I know the password and hotmail addresses and all that, but the two types of accounts it lists after logging in, neither work for login. Or does it mean I don't actually have a Skype account, just the Live/Microsoft account which I can only use to login to Skype using that other option? I'm starting to think this is the case.

I am definetly starting to think I don't actually have a skype name. Now I tried again since the 24 hour restriction went off. First from Skype webpage ->sign in -> forgotten your skype name? ->there I enter my hotmail address ->send mail ->then it moves off from Skype and into account.live.com, where it's no longer asking anything Skype related: Why are you having trouble signing in?I forgot my passwordI know my password, but can't sign inI think someone else is using my Microsoft account
So I obviously choose the second option last time since it's the closest available option for my problem, but then it gives me options: Get back into your accountWe can help you reset your password and security info. First, enter your Microsoft account and the characters shown. So again it asked for my address and captcha, and after that I could choose to "verify my identity" by choosing the alt email, but since that is slight garbled and cannot be differented from the primary address, and I was already so pissed off from typing the same address over and over, so at that point I mistakenly wrote the main address again where it wanted to verify it by asking the whole alternative address and thus it never sent the account reset email for the Microsoft/Live account. But since I originally had no problems with that Microsoft account, all I wanted was the "Skype Name", and since the only way to try to find it jumps into the restore Microsoft account thing,  I'm assuming I don't have one which I could use to login to Skype, so all I can use is the Microsoft/Live account.

  • My email address has come online as a Skype account

I just declined a couple of contact requests from people I have never heard of, and stratight afterwards I received a notification that '(my email address) is online'. My Skype name is NOT the same as my email address and I have not set up a Skype account using my email address as my Skype account name. Could the unwanted contacts have somehow hacked into my account, even though I didn't accept their contact request?

  • I want to delete my skype accounts

I have 3 skype accounts in total. The first one was made through facebook but when I tried to log in to that account it seemed that I had somehow accidentally made another skype account. As a result I couldn't log in to the first one. Since this kept on happening I made a seperate skype account and unlinked the other two skype accounts.
It showed that the accounts have been closed but it still appears in the search box and that's causing a lot of confusion. Can you please tell me how to permanently delete those account.
To make it worse I can't even log in to those accounts.
Any way to close down these accounts?

Hi, Kavyadileep, and welcome to the Community,
You will need to contact Skype Customer Service to request the acccounts be removed from the search directory.  Please note, you will be asked to verify that you are indeed the rightful "owner" of the accounts in question.
Here is a link to the instruction on how to contact Skype Customer Service via their secure portal: Contact Customer Service
Here are a few extra notes to guide you along the way ...
You will need to proceed through each step, one at a time. Sign on to the Skype website as requested. Choose the subject and topic which most closely matches the item you need assistance with. Then, continue past Step 2 of the instruction where several articles from the FAQ library will appear for you to review, and proceed to Step 3, Continue Support Request (the blue "button" appears at the lower right corner of the website page). You may also skip through Step 4 where you will be referred back here to the Community; no need to do this as the Community is where you started. When you complete the web-form and click Submit, your information is relayed to Skype and you will receive a reply via e-mail unless you are transferred to start an instant message chat session with a Customer Service agent.

    Elaine

  • Old Skype account not accepting Windows Live Passw...

    Hey guys,
I created my Skype account about 6 years ago with the email address which I'm still using today. Well, I bought a laptop with Windows 8.1, which asked me to create a Windows Live account, so I did. I also used the same email address for this. Somehow, my Skype account is now linked with this Windows Live account.
So, here's the problem I'm facing. I want to update my contact detail (adding phone number, adding a new primary email address). So, I open my browser, enter Skype.com, choose to login with my Windows Live account, and all is good up to this point. Upon updating my contact detail, it asks to type in my password to be "extra safe". The problem is, it is not recognizing my Windows Live password! I know for a fact what my password is because I use it everyday when I turn on my laptop. Also, I am able to log into my skype account with my Windows Live just fine, although I did not have to type anything in manually. Skype somehow automatically logs me in after clicking on "Sign in with my Windows Live" button.  And, when I try to log into Skype manually with my email address, it's not recognizing my password there neither. Where is the disconnect?
What password is Skype asking me for when I am trying to update my profile?
Thank you for your help guys!

This is happening to me too. Looks like the old skype password is not overwritten by the new Windows Live password.

  • Can't link Microsoft account to Skype account, sam...

I signed up for skype in 2008. Downloaded the app some years later and started using on electronic devices. Bought credit through iTunes. On sept 26th received 3 strange emails from skype telling me that 1. my “skype credit active again,” 2. “currency conversion from USD to EUR was successful,” and 3. “registered email changed to [e-mail removed for privacy and security].” None of these changes were brought on by me so I went about getting my account frozen/released.
In trying to deal with this hacked Skype account, I had to create a Microsoft account. I used the same email tied to the hacked Skype account – [e-mail removed for privacy and security]. When I tried to linking this Microsoft account to my Skype username, it didn’t recognize my password so I reset it. My Skype username didn’t recognize the reset password, only the Microsoft account registered to e[e-mail removed for privacy and security] allowed me to use the reset password.
My question is how can I link the two if I can’t get access to my old Skype account. My “new” Microsoft account uses my old address but now has live:   in front of it, but has none of my old account history, contacts, information etc…I have tried reinstalling the programs on all devices but am never prompted to link accounts as seen in tutorials. Even if I were, I wouldn't be able to sign in to my Skype account.

    Hi Bunais,
Thank you for posting this issue on the TechNet community forums.
From the description I understand that you're having problems switching your local account to a Microsoft account and are receiving the error message: "The password you signed in with is different from your password for your Microsoft account".
    Is this correct?
Here's an article that may help you:

  • Is my Skype account monitored?

I sign in to my skype account both from home (laptop), and office (desktop pc), but when I log in at home and chat with someone, it is not shown in my skype account history when I log in at office. Also when I chat via Skype in the office it shows as a missed call at home. It is as if these two accounts are not synchronized with eachother!!! Could it be possible that my account is somehow monitored in the office?

seems like the usual syncing mystery to me.

  • Someone else opened an skype account using mi emai...

Hello, I was just trying to setup skype for the first time and somehow it endep up saying that my email was registered already, I used the forgot password option and it email me some info in hebrew (I Know thta another guy gave my adress to some of his Israel friends since I started receiving emails from them a while ago), by using the gmail translate feature I realized that they already have an account name (yaelco20) which I hate and don't want to keep... questions are: 1-how's that even possible fro someone to sabotage my capability to use my own email to setup an Skype account if they couldnt confirm the account creation since they were never able to logon to my email. 2-Given this case, is it possible to get that username resetted somehow, since honestly its not an user fault case, but it is indeed a flaw in your security confirmation procedures.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    1.  I think that is a possible weakness of the Skype verification system, anyone can create an account and register any email address without the need to verifying that email address.
    2.  Skype allow to have more than one account to be associated with one email address.  In your case, you can send an email to [email protected], to report that account and to request to unlink your email address from it.

  • My Skype account used to send spam SMS, I was char...

Over the past week, while I was on holiday and off the internet, my Skype account was subject to unauthorised access. The unauthorised user enabled auto-recharge, and used the account to send ~ 600 SMS messages. My Paypal account, and so my credit card, was charged three times.
I used Live Chat tech support, but the scripted nature of the chat felt terrible. I felt like I had to demonstrate that the pattern of use of the account was suspicious when it was obviously spam, with dozens of SMS sent in the same minute. The representative wouldn't, or wasn't allowed to, answer questions like "Is this a known problem with Skype?", and wouldn't/couldn't tell me when the SMS were sent... although the menu options he suggested for viewing the detail of my account history didn't exist in Skype on my Mac. I was also told I wouldn't qualify for a refund for the unauthorised payments because my account had been subject to unauthorised access more than once (although he wouldn't/couldn't give me dates).
He copied & pasted (or typed at 1800wpm) a set of generic security tips, which I follow already, and when asking security questions to reactivate my account, asked several times for details about my credit card - which I don't think I've ever attached directly to my Skype account.
I hated the experience, I don't feel I got answers to any of the questions I asked about Skype security, and I've lost a lot of confidence in Skype as a result.
So apart from anything else I want to know why account features like SMS sending or recharge can't be disabled when it looks like accounts are being used for spam? How about email confirmation of actions like enabling auto-refresh? If the amount spent on my account goes from £4 in 12 months to £34.50 in 6 days, why is that not flagged somehow?
Look after yourselves people, because it feels like maybe Skype won't be looking out for you!

    Hi there,
I just got the same issue, seems there is a heavy security problem with our Skype accounts. In two days time, 185 sms were sent using my account, fyi, here are some of them:

  • 2nd Step Verification for Skype account login?

    Hi
I am just wondering if there is any way you can enable 2nd Step verification on Skype?
There is many websites like Facebook which enable you to have a 2nd step verification on your account when you login with your password, for example you would be asked to enter a code which is usually sent to your mobile phone or a phone call with the code for you to be able to login with your account, I can see this is possible with a Microsoft account but I can find no way to do this with just using a Skype username.
Maybe Skype should give there users the option to do this so it will make accounts more secure and will enable less chances for a person to compromise  a Skype account.
I can see you can link your Microsoft account to your Skype username
does anyone know if this will somehow enable 2nd Step Verification for a Skype username login NOT a microsoft account login.

Hi and welcome to the Skype Community,
Skype accounts do not offer 2 factor authentication. Also linking to a Microsoft account doesn't inherit that functionality from the Microsoft one to the Skype one.
If you are planning to create a new Skype account in the near future we strongly recommend going for a Microsoft account based on because of that.

  • Remote users of one Skype account

    Hi.
I have a Skype account and have just added 2 new members to my team who will be working from home. Can I give them access to use my buisness Skype account to make calls form their own PCs in their own home or do I need to setup a new account with calls subscription for each of them on thier own machine?
Any advice will be gratefully received.

Hi, Language Angels, and welcome to the Community,
I would strongly urge a review the Terms of Use and Fair Usage policies prior to proceeding:  http://www.skype.com/en/legal/
Allowing multiple people to use one account is not only mentioned in the Terms of Use as not allowed, but could also find the account suspended as an anti-fraud measure.  Best to create new accounts and add the needed subscriptions and/or credit.   You might also research if Skype Manager would be useful:  http://www.skype.com/en/features/skype-manager/

  • How Do I Close My Skype Account?

    Dear Readers,
This question is asked a lot here in the Community, particularly on this message board.  Perhaps this topic added here will be helpful.   This FAQ article explains the process of how to remove your Skype account (the blue type is actually a "link" to the FAQ article): https://support.skype.com/en/faq/FA142/how-do-i-close-my-skype-account
First, remember to cancel all active subscriptions. If you think you might be entitled to a refund, please see this FAQ to determine this:  https://support.skype.com/en/faq/FA12147/when-can-i-get-a-refund?
Second, remove any saved payment methods from your account dashboard.
Third, remember to change the account status or presence setting to "offline."  For your convenience, an abridged version of the FAQ article's text - specific only to removing a Skype account - is copied and pasted below:
How do I close my Skype account?
If you want to close your Skype account, you’ll need to contact us so we can close it for you.
First, make sure you’ve cancelled any subscriptions or recurring payments, and used up any Skype Credit you have. Everything associated with your Skype account – including contacts, purchases and history – will be lost when your account is closed.
Next, contact Skype Customer Service and tell us you’d like to close your account.
It might take up to 30 days for your name to disappear from the directory, but after that, no one will be able to find you in Skype. Your name will still appear in your friends’ contact lists unless they remove it, but they won’t be able to contact you.
In the meantime, you can remove your personal information from your profile to prevent people from finding you based on those details.
    Remove your profile information
This will make it more difficult for people to find you in the Skype directory. You can remove or edit all of your details except for your Skype Name.
    To remove your profile information:
Change your profile picture and mood message.
If you have a profile picture that identifies you, you might want to change it. In Skype, click Skype > Profile > Change Your Picture… (on a Mac, click your profile picture and then Change Picture) and browse for a different picture.
You can leave a status message saying you’re no longer active on Skype, or giving your new Skype Name if you’re using a different account. Go to Skype > Profile > Edit Your Profile… and then click Enter mood message. (On a Mac, click your name or profile picture and then click Add Mood Message.)
    Sign out of Skype.
It’s a good idea to set your status to offline or invisible, and then sign out of Skype on all your devices. Type the chat command /remotelogout into the chat window to sign yourself out of Skype on any other devices you might be using, then sign out on the one you’re using now.
    Go to your account.
Sign in to your account on skype.com
Can’t sign in? Find out what to do if you’ve forgotten your username or password.
    Go to your profile.
Scroll to the bottom of the page and, under Settings and preferences, click Edit profile.
    Edit your profile details.
In the Personal Information section, click Edit.
Remove your information from the Personal Information and Contact Details sections. Some fields are mandatory - replace the info in these with random characters, because you won’t be able to save it if the fields are empty. Click Save.
Please remember this is a one-time request which cannot be reversed.
One more point to keep in mind: removing your account from the Search Directory will not "pull," "remove," "delete," or "retract" instant messages or file transfers that you have previously sent to your contacts.  Your account name will still appear on their contact lists, although they will no longer be able to contact you using the account name you have requested be removed.
The last step of the process is to file your request to remove your account with Skype Customer Service.   This final and required step in the process is often overlooked, and we here in the Community are not authorized to process service requests.  Here is a link to the instruction on how to contact Skype Customer Service via their secure portal: Contact Customer Service
Skype is aware of sporadic website issues.  Temporarily enabling scripts, disabling browser add-ins that might disable pop-up dialog boxes, and temporarily enabling pop-up dialog boxes may help get you through to Skype Customer Service.  If you still experience difficulty reaching Skype Customer Service or find yourself redirected back to the Community, please try again using a different web browser.
Look to approve a pop-up dialogue box which would connect you to start an instant message chat with a customer service agent. If you have pop-ups blocked in your browser settings, this will also block reaching an agent.
Last and not least, when you reach the last step of the process, remember to click on the "Start Chat" link when you are provided the choice of visiting the Community or starting an instant message chat with a customer service agent.
    Best regards,
    Elaine
