Is my t420s running at a normal temperature?

I just purchased a used thinkpad t420s and I was wondering if it's overheating or running at the correct temperature. The CPU idles in the mid to low 50's (Celsius) and and will top out at 95 Celsius running prime 95. While running a virus scan and watching a YouTube video the chip is running in the high 80's. Is this normal? According to Intel, the max temp allowed is 100 Celsius. I have all of the power settings set for maximum performance. Here is a link to my chip http://ark.intel.com/products/52231/Intel-Core-i7-2620M-Processor-4M-Cache-up-to-3_40-GHz
I sould mention that using TPFC.63 I always crank the fan up higher then the bios will control them, So I'm guessing the teps are normal, because the bios would probably spool the fans to full power if the system was about to shut down from overheating.

Hi Daniel250,
Welcome to Lenovo Community!
As per the query we understood that you are facing the issue with System over heating on your ThinkPad T420s.
The normal temperature for CPU at 72 centigrade and GPU at 68 centigrade is in the safe temperature range.
If you feel that your laptop is warmer than usual, do clean the vents and fan via using a pump blower to remove the dust particles stuck in the vents and it also maybe with the thermal paste between your heat sink and the processor core may have been used up. You may consider getting some good thermal paste and apply over the processor core to ensure best heat transfer property
Hope this helps.

Yes, that's normal. Don't do it very often or over long periods.

  • HP Pavilion dv7-4083cl (w/ Intel Core i5 and ATI GPU): Which is its normal temperature?

    Hello,
I have a question about HP Pavilion dv7-4083cl (w/ Intel Core i5 and ATI GPU):
    Which is its normal temperature?
    Environment: 24 °C (Celcius)
HWMonitor and Real Temp agrees with the numbers find below.
The two CPU Cores starts at 37 °C and in about an hour are at 53 °C, with CPU usage under 10%.
The GPU starts at 34 °C and easly goes to 57 °C, with some peaks at 72 °C
    Regarding "Hewlett-Packard 144B": (under low/idle CPU usage)
TZ01: starts at 40 °C and very fast goes to 55 °C or 65 °C (and more, under CPU load)
PCH starts at 59 °C and very fast goes to 76 °C (and stays there)
GMCH: starts at 40 °C and very fast goes to 55 °C or 65 °C
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470 (TMPIN0): Starts at 34 °C and easily goes and stays at 57-58 °C
Note: I'm also using a cooler (two fans, under its base)
If I run Real Temp (v. 3.6) "Sensor Test", the cores goes up to 100 °C , and even a bit more.
Which is the normal / expected behavior / operational range?
Steady PCH at 76 °C is it normal?
    TZ01, GMCH at 55 - 65 °C is it normal?
i5 Cores at 55 °C is it normal? (and easily going to 70 °C or more)
GPU (ATI) at 57 °C is it normal?
is it normal to climb up to 100-105 °C under a 5 minutes high CPU usage operation?
    Thanks!

i roll back to bios F.25 which is the older version of bios that support my device but still suffering from same D90 system overheating error.
i can't contact hp support or send it to offical hp center currently coz i am from Egypt and i live in far town

  • Why doesn't MBP return to its normal temperature after I turn off a heavy program?

Hello there, I've noticed that my new MacBook Pro runs at a very cool temperature while browsing websites and doing general activities.  After I open up one of my work programs such as After Effects, Nuke, Maya, it will start up to heat up considerably on the left top corner, which is to my expectations.  Now the problem here is that it does not cool down to its normal temperature after I have shut down all my work programs, the temperature remains as high as if the programs were still open and occupying CPU.  Can someone help me with this problem before I take my MBP to a Apple Store for a fix?
    Thanks lots!

You likely have a run away process from one of your third party programs that is not exiting or quitting, therefore hogging CPU cycles.
To determine this, reboot the machine, open your Activity Monitor and click "all processes" and sort by clicking on "CPU" this will make the processes taking the most cycles pop to the top.
now open your third party programs one at a time and get familiar with their processes, when you find the one process that appeared and taking huge CPU even after you've quit the program you have found your source.
Update this program or contact the developer for a explanation.
sometimes it will be a Apple process, which a OS X Overwrite should hopefully fix

  • How are "normal" temperatures on macbook air?

How are "normal" temperatures on macbook air?, because during gaming i have 90ºC+ (cpu) and 6500rmp (fan).
the macbook air is new (2 weeks), and have the last version of SMC (2.5f7)
the games are: Diablo 3, Killing floor, starcraft 2, and others. (on minimun settings)

Those games are highly likely to produce those conditions of the temp and fan speed. The Air is not a gaming rig, but still fairly usable with many popular titles. It will run warm though.

  • Normal temperature for NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT

Hi, what is the normal temperature for NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT when on notebook I use only word, or some programs, no play games.

Quote from: Mike on 01-February-10, 11:02:34
normal depends on the environment, the ambient temperature.  Is it hot where you use it?  Do you use it on a hard surface or place it directly on your lap or some cloth type surface.  There are quite a number of variables.  What temperatures are you noticing?
if I work with word or use internet the temperature is about 55*C

  • How Can I Run A SQLJ Normal Project In SAP NWDS

I have a question about SQLJ in SAP NWDS.
1.I created a java dictionary project, and then create the table , then depoly it.it's ok.
2.I created a java normal project including the above java dictionary project.
3.I used the SQLJ tech in the java normal project, exporting the opensqllib.jar,sqljapi.jar,sqljc.jar,sqljimpl.jar.
4.I coded the normal project, and export the project .jar, everything is ok.
    <b>5.But when i runed the project in NWDS,the error appeared:java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: com/sap/sql/log/OpenSQLException

How Can I Run A SQLJ Normal Project In SAP NWDS?
PLS Help me and don't let me alone!

    Tony,
Why not try to import your SQLJ project in SAP NWDS. Add all the jars mentioned to the project path both for compile time as well as runtime. Now try running he project. Once you are able to bypass java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError, you will get other errors related to SQL statements. These Oracle SQL statements needs to be converted to OpenSQL format.
    Chill out!!!

  • Is this normal temperatures after 1 minute of gaming?

Hi HP. I just want to know if this is normal temperatures after about 1 minute of gaming?

    Hmmm that is odd.
I'll check my system for the speed of the GPU, but I believe it's ramping up.
Worst case is that the thermals are a bit off inside the system.
This could be a screw being a bit loose or missing altogether. (I'm sure the thermal grease is fine as that isn't done by hand. )
You can check this yourself, but the main problem is the rubber foot. Once it's off, it's not easy to get back on.

  • Hp G6s normal temperature

I want to buy Hp g6s with intel core i3 2330m and intel HD graphics 3000 and I want to know what is the normal temperature for this cpu, I don't want the laptop for hard gaming, maybe just need for speed world.
Anyways can anyone tell me the normal temperature of this laptop?

The numbers you describe are high but not deadly high.
    Here are some online tips:
    http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/technology-blog/keep-laptop-cool-172740363.html
These suggestions are very generic. Try bending out a paperclip and sticking it in the grille to hold the blades. Then blow in some strong compressed air and see if dust flies out. If none of this works, it might help to open the laptop and manually clean out the fan area and reseat the fan/heatsink with new thermal paste. Post back if you want specific instructions on that. If the fan spins faster as the heat increases and then slows down as it cools off and makes no grinding or other weird noise it is probably OK.

which is the normal temperature of operation of the a Macbook pro 13" 2.4 GHZ core duo i5 500GB hard disk? due to my laptop is very hot, arrives to 89º celcius, when I am playing a game and normal when I am internet, is of 63º to 73

That's too hot, for just Internet.
I can see if you just stopped playing a 3D game and then went to use the Internet you would get that sort of temps.
Try booting a cold machine, then only surfing the web, if you get 63-73 C temps, something is wrong, it should be 40-45 C.
The integrated graphics machines are hot, but yours seems too hot.
Perform a hardware check, if it says something, write it down and make a appointment
