Before tyring anything like that UNLOCK YOUR BOOTLOADER can your phone go into flashmode? If yes then flash the stock ftf
Otherwise try in XDA

  • ZR will not update - Phone is a brick

My 2 month old Xperia ZR (purchased unlocked from Amazon at $549 US) is now a brick.  I bought this phone for its ability to survive underwater, dust resistance and drop test.  It seems just the rugged phone that I needed for 24x7x365 support duty.
Well, I should have asked if the phone would survive an upgrade.  Apparently, it does not.
Performing the 10.3.1.A.2.67 system upgrade failed  as I used PC Companion on Win7.  I was warned it would take 30 minutes for the upgrade by PC Companion.  At 26 minutes, I received an error message.  The retry also failed.  Then, the driver would not load and Win7 kept telling me the ZR was an unknown USB dev ice.
BUT, by this time, my phone was a brick.  It would turn on, show the SONY logo and, then, turn off.
So, I call Sony Mobile Tech Support (1-866-766-9374 or 1-877-7XPERIA).  Mayelin sent my a procedure to try in recovering my phone.  No go.  So, I call back and talk to Jamie.  She doesn't even want to read my case notes (1-840176438).  She goes to read the notes and transfers me to Mr. Dialtone.  I call back and take to Natasha and ask for a Supervisor.  Apparently, Sony does not staff their Call Centers with Supervisors.  So, she asks for my number in order to have someone in Escalations call me back.  No, she did not know when the callback would take place nor any timeframe like that there.
After 25 years of technical support experience in data networks, I know bull**bleep** when I hear it.  There really ought to be a law that mandates Supervisors be present and available at all times a support call center is operating.  The support bull**bleep** performed by companies such as Sony, and/or its outsource support vendors, is just criminal considering how much their products cost.  Very unprofessional and user hostile.
I have included the procedure sent to me by Mayelin.  It may be of help to some other poor and unfortunate person who might have also bought this Hercules of a phone.
I will wait until Monday when I might be able to get a Supervisor.  I will then discuss how useless it is for me to undergo their 7-10 business days "evaluation" return-to-factory service when their system upgrade killed my phone.  I would expect and advance replacement on the next business day at the very least.  BUT, apparently, $549 does not get you this when you buy one of these indestructible phones.
How sad.  Has Sony quality really come to this?  I own a lot of Sony A/V and some professional products.  I just bought one of their new VAIO laptops at top dollar from a Sony Store (Stanford Shopping Center).
If this experience has taught me anything is that I should probably stick to Sony Ericsson or not buy Sony Mobile products at all.  My old Sony-Ericsson T515 never gave me any hiccups as big as this Xperia ZR is giving me.

    Dear ZRSUCKS,
Thank you for contacting Sony Xperia™ Online Support.
We have an extended guide that should help you fix the issue on your phone, please follow the instructions carefully:
    Visit this link:
    http://www.sonymobile.com/us/tools/pc-companion/
    Click on Download PC Companion
Run the software and install it
Turn the phone off and disconnect it from the computer
    1. No matter what the program says do not connect the phone until you complete step 9
    2. In the welcome screen you will see the different modules available for you including the "Support Zone" option. Click on "Start" below it.
    3. On the next page Click on "Start" under "Phone Software Update"
At this point if you get an error stating that "Unable to install update components" or "Server is busy" , then please proceed to step 12
    4. The program will say that there is no phone connected. Click on the option below that reads: "Repair my phone" the program will issue you a warning about the content that you will lose during the update
    5. Choose the option to continue.
    6. The program will issue a final message warning you of possible data lost during the update. Click on the checkmark and then on "Next".
    7. After that, the program will download the necessary information (5 to 6 minutes) and it will present you with a list of phones.
    8. Choose your phones model from the list then click on "Next" then you will see a new section telling you how to connect the phone. (don't connect it yet)
At this point the phone must be off and disconnected from the PC.
    9. Connect the cable to the PC not to the phone, then while pressing and holding the indicated button (in the steps on screen an specific button will be shown for you to press on the phone) connect the cable to the phone and keep holding the indicated button until the program says "the update of your phone has started..." (in some cases a message of  "Installing drivers" will appear before the message of "the update of your phone has started..."  is shown.)
    10. If you failed to follow the steps correctly the phone will turn on and it will request that you "Proceed with the following steps, slide down the notification bar", If this happens disconnect the phone from the cable, turn it off and repeat from step 9).
    11. If the phone is connected properly, PC Companion will proceed with the update ( It will tell you to let go of the back key) then wait for the update to finish and follow instructions on screen to disconnect the unit.
    Dear Customer,
    12. If "Unable to install update components"
    1. Close PC Companion
    2. Install Java from: http://www.java.com
    3. Start PC Companion again and try to do the software unlock process once more.
Note: If you wish only to update the unit wait for the program to open and then select the quick link on the upper left corner that says "Update Phone/Tablet" and follow the instructions to perform the update. (the PC may request for the phone to be placed in Mass Storage mode. Do this by going into Settings>Xperia>Connectivity>USB connection mode)

  • Xperia so-02c has a black screen since updating

    Hello,
I agreed to an Android update from Sony on 08/18/2012. It told me I needed to charge my battery before the update, so I did (although not fully) everything progressed fine until my phone powered off. Since then it hasn't powered back on. This is the first update I’ve ever agreed to, needless to say if I’d thought this would happen I wouldn’t have agreed to Sony’s download.
Originally I could hold the power button down and the phone would still vibrate, but nothing else would happen. When I plugged it into the computer and then pressed the back button the green light would come on.  I've re-updated the phone using PC companion, and Update Service. I have both the Update, and the Factory Reset + update options. Each time the software on my computer told me the update was successful. Now when I hold down the power button the LED will flash red three times, no matter how long I hold it there is no longer any vibration. I have also tried holding down the power/volume up (and down) buttons, but the screen continues to ignore me. The screen has never showed no signs of life since the update. When this whole things started the phone was low on memory. When I plug the phone into the charger it blinks red at a steady pace before turning a solid green; I have not seen any other colors than red or green from the LED since this all began. I have tried all of the above with the SD and SIM card in, one in and one out, vise versa and both out. I don’t know if the phone is unlocked; I’m assuming at this point that it’s bricked
It's a Japanese phone from Docomo but I've been using it in Canada without any problems. I’ve had no battery problems and the screen was functioning fine until all of this started. I bought the phone two months ago but I have no warranty.
I would certainly appreciate any help you can offer.

Try letting the phone charge for a couple of hours and then run the software repair option in PCC. If it doesn't help it needs to be examined at an repair center to get it fixed. Contact your local support team to check if they might be able to help you.

  • Xperia Z1 stuck in boot loop after upgrade to lollipop!

    Hi,
I tried to upgrade my Xperia Z1 to lollipop on my macbook - but it failed due to something about update server error. Now , the phone just tries to boot, shows the sony and xperia logo, backlight comes on - and then shuts down and cycles through this! I tried using EMMA and the phone is locked and says to go to sonymobile/update - but that says to use PCCOmpanion -  I have tried to use PCcompanion on a PC and folloed the instructions and it shows the start screen, select screen then just tells me to take the battery out and put the usb cable in again - obviously can't take the battery out - so i shutdown, put it in fastboot and it just does the same.
HELP! Followed the upgrade procedure to the letter and now my phone looks like its bricked....hope sony will replace as it was their fault! Or can someone help me!?!?!?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

You may need to perform a software repair using PC Companion. The process will erase all internal memory. You might need to charge your device for about 1-2 hours before so the device has at least 60% battery.
Make sure the device is not connected to computer or laptop and turned off (sometimes you have to press power button and volume up until the device vibrates 3 times or on some devices you have to press the small button near the SIM tray or on the back of the device).
Open PC companion->support zone->phone/tablet software update->repair my phone/tablet blue highlighted.Follow the steps given,do not connect your phone until prompted to press volume down while plugging USB cable. If PC companion does not start the repair process, you might need to run it in compatibility mode with Windows 7 (in some cases XP).

  • My Experience with Sony Xperia Tablet S (so far)

For the Sony Xperia Tablet S, the bootloader is still locked, so getting an official install of Android is still impossible.  I've decided to root it and clean it up as much as possible.  At this point, It's either that or take it skeet shooting.
After rooting the tablet, I have managed to clean some of the junkware up manually.  It's not the solution to the problem (only Sony or a judge can right their wrong), but getting rid of this junk seemed to help to some extent.  Here is a list of all the apks that I manually deleted (season to taste).
Obvious disclaimer, here:  If you brick your device, it's your fault and not mine.  One thing that you COULD do though, is encourage Sony to up their morals and do the right thing by giving us the capability of unlocking our bootloaders.  Selling people locked down hardware without the ability to unlock it is like selling someone a house and then telling them after the fact that they cannot clean the junk out of it, or modify it, or paint it, or fix the plumming, or replace the carpet, or even use the front door...  I think you get the idea.  It's a morally corrupt thing to do, IMO, and I think that Sony should be ashamed of themselves for locking us out of our own property.
I'm not nearly finished cleaning the tablet up yet (I'm going to take a break and get some reading in, but will focus on the system files next).  At a minimum, this list can serve as a big chunk of useless fat that people can lipo out of their tablets if they so desire.

There are probably a few files that I removed and did not mention, but there won't be many.  I didin't actually start keeping a log of the removals until later in the game, although I recorded as much as I could from my terminal buffer to make the list as complete as possible.
Obviously, if you're going to delete files, I strongly suggest that you keep a log AND make sure you have multiple types of backups (and backups to those backups).  I actually had to rely on my backups on multiple occasions while coming up with this list.  Again (as in "service not rendered"), we need our bootloaders unlocked so we can actually own the hardware that we have purchased.
    Launcher and keyboard:
    ======================
The launcher and keyboard that come with the Xperia Tab S ******.  On my system, I have replaced them both with the Nova Launcher and the Hacker's Keyboard, resulting in much (much, Much) better functionality and useability! And once those defaults were set, I removed the launcher and keyboard that came with the tablet as well.
    Boot Animation:
    ===============
As far as the boot animation is concerned, that's easily changed as well.  Nothing new here (Google it):
      # find -type f -name bootanimation.zip -exec ls {} \; -exec ls -la {} \;
      ./system/media/bootanimation.zip
      -rw-r--r-- root     root       242855 2013-05-19 02:44 bootanimation.zip
Something I need to figure out for my next steps:
    =================================================
Can I simply build a stock Android system, take stock apks from that build and put it on the Xperia (replace) without any issues?
Can I swap them out whole-sale, or are there any caveats in regards to how far can I go with that?
Any advice of how to further improve this would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

These are the issues as I see it:
    The Software:
Initially, when I complained about not being able to remove unwanted software, this is what I got:
     *  "You can disable it in the settings and you won't see the icons."
     *  "You can root the device and remove the unwanted software, but if you do, then we won't honor the warranty"
We'll look at the logic of these, but first, let's inject a simple analogy -- something I think most people will be able to relate to with ease.  Let's say that I buy a house, and I like the house a lot, but there is a toilet in the middle of the living room (I like social stuff that much ).  So after I purchase the house, I find out that I cannot remove the toilet in the living room because I don't have the "special tools" to do it.  In addition, this toilet has a bit of a valve problem, and it runs constantly.
The first supposed solution was "You can disable it in the settings and you won't see the icons."  That's like saying "throw a sheet over it."  In this case, disabling it doesn't even mean turning off the water.  There's still pipework being used, because cache supporting those apps still keep coming back.  So the toilet keeps running, and it gets to the point that it annoys the ****** out of me.  Throwing a sheet over the toilet does not fix the problem, nor does it remove the offense from my living room.  Not only is this NOT a solution, it's a horrible idea!
The second supposed solution was "You can root the device and remove the offending software, but if you do, then we won't honor the warranty."  I'm not big on warranties, and over the years I've discovered that most companies give me so much hassle and additional cost over getting something replaced or repaired, that I'm better off getting another product (usually from another vendor).  I personally wouldn't expect Sony to be any different in that regard.  That said, I don't care about warranties.  Furthermore I don't expect Sony to truly honor a warranty any more than I would expect a previous owner of my house to fix my leaking roof.
In my house, I don't want toilets in my living room.  I realize that there may be a lot of people out there who might find this to be of great use and value, but for me, it is offensive just knowing that it is there.  More offensive to me, is that I'm told I can not (or even "should not") remove it.  But even worse is, "throw a sheet over it."  To me, that's right up there with "We don't care so shut up."
So, left with no other choice, I rooted the tablet and took the (most obvious) toilets out of the places where I felt that they did not belong.  I don't expect help or tech support from Sony, either and if "throw a sheet over it" is any indication of the help that I might get, then trust me when I say that I don't WANT any help from them.
But that's not even the crux of my frustrations with this whole thing.  It's just a side-show.
    The Hardware:
Lets get something straight - When I buy a piece of property (whether it be a computer, a motor vehicle or a house), I expect to be able to enter that property in any way that suits me (and the way by which entry was intended is no exception by anyone's reasonable expectation).  Furthermore, if that piece of property has the ability to be locked, I fully expect to have the relevant keys, so that I might lock and unlock it on my own and at my own discretion.
With this tablet that I have bought, and therefore I own, I expect to be able to use the front door (the boot loader).  It is my property, I hold the bill of sale (the "deed"), and I cannot see how Sony has any moral, ethical, or legal standing to withhold those keys from me, thereby preventing me from entering my own property in a forthright manner.
So far, I've read the following excuses on this forum:
"We do it for your security"
As in "Sony is my savior?"  Hmm.  Does this mean that if a Sony customer has an unrooted and locked-by-Sony Xperia Tablet S that gets hacked, and their bank account goes dry and their identity is stolen as a result, that Sony will take the responsibility for it, reimburse that customer, and pay any costs to get that persons identity cleared?  Of course not.  The term "Responsibility" is a two-edged sword, and it cuts both ways.  As such, this excuse of taking responsibility of my security reads more like this: "For your security, we will control your house, but if you get compromised, you're stuck holding the bag, because we're not responsible."  If that doesn't defy logic, then I don't know what does!  This isn't an excuse for security.  Instead, it's a lame excuse for control, which provides no safety net.  I personally don't want someone who will not be responsible, taking on the role of being responsible for my security.  I would much rather be responsible for my own security, thank you very much.
CAVEAT:  I do understand that there are people out there who have no concept of security whatsoever and who do really dumb things, so the use of a snake-oil security solution can be beneficial (perhaps to the extent that it will "keep the honest people honest"), but my point is that it's still snake-oil, and it's benefits are far too limited for my taste.
So no, I don't want Sony's snake-oil security solution.  I want what is rightfully mine.  I want to hold the keys to the device that I have purchased.  I want the ability to lock and unlock my own front door at my own discretion, and if possible I want to change the key set so that once I take control of my own device, Sony can't unlock that door while I'm not home.  (there's an interesting idea, eh? ).
The other reason I've now heard is that "We do it to protect our proprietary software"
I would love to have a link or a scan of any document from Sony that actually states this.
If that is truly their position, then my response would then be, "Does this mean you do it so that I can't get rid of those toilets in my living room?  I won't want them in my living room, I don't want them in my bedroom, I don't want them in my kitchen, on my front porch, or in my den.  I don't want your software in my house, and being that this is MY house (as in "I hold the deed"), I'm ordering you not only to get the ****** out, but give me MY keys to MY front door!  This house is under renovation!
    On getting a refund:
If getting a refund is what Zero wanted, then congratulations to him.  If a refund is what you want, then good luck.  Do you think Sony will reimburse you for the time you've wasted with it as well?  Just a thought.
I'm personally not interested in a refund.  I simply want what is rightfully mine.
In fact, if this doesn't get resolved (or the tablet bricks in the process) maybe I'll take it skeet shooting and upload the video.  It will at least be entertaining, and the upside to it would be that it couldn't be refurbished and imposed on yet another vict...  er...  I mean customer.
    Final thoughts:
In the end, if Sony will not honor their sales by actually relinquishing the ownership of the hardware that they sell to the person holding the bill of sale, then at the very LEAST, they should start placing on their products warnings labels for future potential customers, enabling them to understand what they are actually buying, and what they are actually NOT buying -- Some type of "Brooklyn-Bridge" or "Bully" Buyer-beware warning should suffice, I think.  If they do not do this, then I can definitely foresee customers being forced to go before a judge in order to actually take ownership of the property that they have purchased -- and that CAN'T be good for business.  (Just sayin')

  • Where to buy charger for sony xperia model no. SGPT1211?

i would really like to get sony xperia charger..
pls.help me to find where to buy it.
    thanks
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Unfortunately, this is a major effort.  It's been discontinued and is very hard to find.  Sony has back ordered it, but it's in 2 parts, the brick and the cord.  Combined it's about $55 or so.  I found some retailed in China that are selling them for $70.
I just bought one on Ebay for $40 and hopefully it's compatible.  Sony has done a terrible job with these adapters and their exclusivity and reluctance to make them universal with their other products.  It makes it very hard to buy replacements.
    Good luck!

  • Phone won't turn on - Xperia Z

My phone won't turn on whatsoever. It is not unresponsive, the LEDs work, they go red when it is charging. I have looked for a solution but I can find absolutely none. I've charged it for 24 hours so it is not a matter of battery drain. When I connect it to the computer it says that "SEMC Flash Drive connected" and it plays the sound, not sure why it doesn't say Xperia Z connected. Sony PC Companion won't recognise the phone so it won't let me restore it. I've tried to put it in recovery but whenever I try to do it, the phone just vibrates and does nothing, same with turning it on, it just vibrates, does nothing and then vibrates again. Is there a way to wipe the data in it's state currently or is there a fix because right now my phone is as useful as a brick. The phone isn't stuck on the boot logo, it just won't turn on

Try running a repair, but ensure you start the process with the phone not connected to the PC and do not connect till it prompts you to do so after the repair option is selected. What are your thoughts about this forum? Let us know by doing this short survey.

  • Xperia M C1904 Lockdown (Android 4.3)

Ok, straight to the point (Again).I bought a Sony Xperia M C1904 a year ago around February... It was working just well, I mean, I loved my phone, a week ago I was using it normally and every single process in my phone popped out the "X thing has stopped working", my phone rebooted and poof, encripted phone, I dont know what kind of joke is that but it aint funny at all. I tried using Sony Flashtool "Emma", useless it only detected my phone to tell me it was locked, then I go to Sony Bootloader Unlock Method, useless, I went to the company I bought the phone from (Movistar) they told me "This is not our problem", so Im guessing taking my phone to a Sony Support Center would be useless as well. Now everytime I turn on my phone I have to face that thing "Introduzca la contraseña para descifrar el almacenamiento", its on spanish, translate it, I NEVER used any password or PIN to lock my phone, I have no password, nor a PIN, never configured that, they told me my phone was reported as stolen, I have the ticket and the box.Simple, just tell me how to escape from that Lockdown and make my phone usable again so I can at least sell it.Flashing, no way, wont work.SDK, useless.Guarantee, expired. My Xperia (TM dont get mad), never configured it.Recovery mode, I updated my phone to Android 4.3 using PC Companion, had I know it will mess up the recovery mode, well, Im trying not to get mad here, but having an useless brick for which I paid a lot of money, is annoying and Im sure Im not the only one with this problem, I´ve been using Sony phones for a long time, all of them had their own unexplainable problems, but at least the other ones I could repair myself... Just tell me what do I need to do to make my phone usable again, if that phone has no repair, cause I dont remember setting up any password or PIN, just tell my straight forward "Mate, your phone is doomed", so I can toss it away and buy a new phone, a Sony one, cause I love your freaking phones, no sarcasm, just tell me so I start saving money again. Peace out.Yeah, its on Spanish, yeah Im a latin guy, yeah Im in the wrong section, but your paged sent me here.

I found out that if you typed a weird number a menu popped out in which you could hard reset the phone... I never repaired it with the PCC, it always showed a message "Unable to downoad your device software... Please check your connection and try again", and I click retry and retry and retry, it doesnt move forward, so all options are useless, and at last Safe Mode, even if I reboot it on Safe Mode, it shows me the same."Nothing can be done", "Replace the motherboard"... "Your phone is doomed" -_- Then I´ll toss it away tomorrow, I cant even sell it, well, thanks mate, I´ll start saving for a new one.

  • I forgot pattern lock on my Sony Xperia Z1 and i need it back

    Hello,
on my sony xperia z1 phone i forgot my pattern lock. I can't use the Forgot Pattern Lock because it uses Wifi conection which i can't connect to...(my screen is locked) I want to hard reset it somehow but i tried allmost every method on the internet but none of them were working I tried holding the volume up and these things....but as i said it won't work for me. Can anyone please help me? THANK YOU VERY MUCH

In order to fix this you need to perform a system repair
Switch off your phone and unplug from Pc (Hold volume up and power for around 10 seconds)
Start PC Companion and select Support zone then Update my phone/tablet then in Blue Repair my phone/tablet and follow the onscreen instructions - When prompted connect your phone still switched off holding volume down or back button - This should start the repair or reformat process
If you are using Windows 8/8.1 or a 64bit operating system then adjust the settings for PC Companion and run in compatibility mode and chose Windows 7 or XP

  • Will Apple cover me if updating to iOS5 on ipod Touch 3rd gen ruins/bricks it?

I have heard stories of some people's apple products not working/bricked after attempting to upgrade to iOS5.
I have a 1.5 year old ipod Touch 3rd gen. No warranty on it from Apple (tho I do have one from Square Trade for ADH, but I called them and they said if it is a software issue, they don't cover it.)
I am very concerned about d/ling the ios5 upgrade and it ruining my ipod touch.  In effect, I will take a device that could fetch almost $200 on ebay (which I could then use to upgrade to a Touch 5gen), and turn it into a worthless piece of junk if I upgrade and it ruins it.
Also, I know that they have released 5.0.1 (beta I believe?) for update.   I still read stories on here from people waiting until now (Nov, a month after it was first released when so many people tried to d/l it and had terrible problems), but now are still getting network timed out error msgs, etc.
So is there ANY protection from Apple if their update should screw my ipod touch??
Should I just wait longer for a final, stable version  of ios 5? (like v5.1)  Or just totally skip the iOS 5 upgrade and stay safe with iOS 4?  I don't know that it is really worth the $200 loss risk to upgrade to iOS5.  (i.e. 3rd gen doesn't have the ability to find and lock/wipe my lost touch, etc.)
I do know that I should:
    1) install itunes 10.5 anew on my laptop  (itunes and syncing WAS done on my tower, until I just got it back from being serviced for some Major problems/virues/malware/etc.  I'm not comfortable using it, as the problems on it included not being able to start Local Services, connect to the internet, no audio services, etc.  The guy says it is booting up and services are working now, but you never know....But i digress...)
    2) be on AC and not battery on my laptop
    3) be hardwired (ethernet) to the internet and not use my wireless connection
    4) turn off Windows 7 Firewall, and disable my PC Tools Spyware Docter with Antivirus.
So, what do you all think? should I wait until later to upgrade to say os 5.1?  Should I even RISK upgrading to iOS5 on a touch 3gen and lose almost $200 cash?  And will Apple give me ANY protection should it ruin my touch?  (I seriously doubt it.)
    Thanks for input.

Before proceeding with the update, it wouldn't hurt to manually back up the iPod in iTunes by right->clicking on it from under the Devices section and choosing Backup.    See this article for more information on what is stored in the backup.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4946
Also make sure that any content you may have synced to the device from iTunes, such as Music, movies, TV Shows, podcasts, etc. are all stored on your computer and in iTunes before updating the iPod's version of iOS.
Otherwise, I would go ahead with the upgrade.  I didn't have any issues with it on my iPhone.
