Is N80 v4 firmware required for FOTA?

With all the excitement regarding the firwmare update service, is it actually possible to update a version 3 N80 over the air? (when the service does become available)
Or will it require a final service centre upgrade to v4 for the phone to be actually capable of perfoming a FOTA upgrade.
It would seem many people are waiting for Nokia to support the N80 so they can upgrade to v4 but we all may still need one last service centre visit.

I don't know what boot camp is
It's Apple's own way of getting Windows running on an Intel Mac. I believe it's a dual boot solution which means you select Mac OS X (or whatever it's called - I'm not a Mac type) or Windows XP on start up. The machine then starts either as a Mac OR a Windows box depending on your selection: you don't get windows running as a process within the Mac environment.
I believe compatibility is supposed to be pretty good, so it may work better with PC Suite. I also believe it's free (look on the Mac site, I guess), but you do need a version of Windows XP (I think it only works with XP, but maybe also 2000) to install.Message Edited by patc on 25-Aug-2006

  • Vote of thanks For New N80 V4 Firmware

After previously moaning about my N80, I just wanted to say thanks to Nokia for the last N80 v4 firmware upgrade, so far it has made my N80 a much better, usable and stable phone.
I hope that you will provide further enhancements to this great phone.
    Thanks.

Been there, done that, no reply from Executive Office (yes I emailed them direct several times - much better than cust services if you want something resolved!)
I'm currently looking at my contract VERY carefully so I can shove it somewhere painfull, and move networks OR get a handset which they WILL support (which prob means not a Nokia!)

  • N80 Working ok except for battery life

    Hi All
Just a quick one to say I have not had any of the problems everyone else is complaining about. The software version is 3.0617.0.3 and I am on Orange. My only problem is battery life, lasts a day! so I am about to turn off Bluetooth and the search for WLAN to see if this makes a difference. Orange said if not they would test the phone to see if it was faulty or the battery.
Oh one other thing the N80 does not like the Parrot CK3100 car kit.

sister_bliss, I have been following this thread with some interest as battery life is the biggest problem I have with this phone, I can live with or work around other issues until they are sorted via firmware. For information, with regards to how many features are running and signal strength etc, I use my phone on GSM only, bluetooth/infrared only when required - I have these set up as standby icons for convenience. Signal strength is excellent even on 3g and I have disabled packet data connection and use it only as required and I get a maximum of 2 days out of a full charge. Btw, I noticed yesterday that using the camera eats battery life, I sometimes need to take photos as part of my work - for reports etc, not often but sometimes and even shots taken in daylight use a lot of energy. Once again, if an application built into the phone uses so much energy it should be taken into account when fitting the battery, I buy a mobile phone to use as a tool not just to sit on my desk looking flash and tools get used - in my case frequently. Sorry if this sounds like a rant but nothing, imo, could be simpler to rectify than this, your thoughts would be interesting.

  • Firmware upgrade for Nokia 6280

I would like to know do we have firmware upgrade for Nokia 6280 as my present one is 3.65 and would like to upgrade it to 5.92 and I am in India
Could you please help me out.

updating to new firmware depends on product code which represents your region of purchasing, language pack and if it's branded or not .... so NOKIA releases firmwares and release it for every product code depending on mentioned points
you can check for updates @ :
    http://mea.nokia.com/support/download-software/device-software-update/can-i-update
To find what the latest available device software is, you’ll need your device’s product code. The code is printed on the white label beneath the battery (e.g. CODE: 0520001).
if your phone is branded with an operator, that means that you should go to the operator care center and ask them, not NOKIA
some updates delay in some countries variant product code, as it requires more effort to add language pack to it like "example. China Japan Korea" or it needs the country to approve it due to its policy

  • N80 new firmware release date and wishlist

It has been no update on firmware since the latest release V.5.0719.0.2 for N80 since 24 May 2007. With so many models rolling out and firmware revision released for other new and old models, one might wonder if N80 is being forgotten and the firmware revision is put on-hold forever in cold storage?!
There has been so much discussion on the expectation for last firmware release but what we get is only product stability without signficant boost of functionality and performance. I believe this has made many proud owner of N80 phone waiting with a long neck.
After reading through the forum, I have summarised some of the common expectation on the next release (hopefully) in a wishlist below. All is welcome to provide input on the improvement they expect in next firmware release. It is also hope that any status of firmware upgrade for N80 news to be shared here.
    The N80 new firmware wishlist
    i) AD2P bluetooth profile support
ii) Nokia Maps application support (currently, N80 is not support model for Nokia Maps application)
iii)Enhanced digital music player (similar with N73 ME with album art browsing)
iv) Music file IDD tag editing (change artist, song title, genre information)
    v) Video ringtone
    vi) Skype VOIP support
vii)Mymobilesite.net intergration for seamless moblogging interface
viii)Auto birthday reminder storing from Contact entry
Thats all I can think of for now.

    Hi Jacob,
Thanks for your quick response but if you go to the download section of Nokia Maps, N80 is not listed for selection on Nokia Maps setup file download. It is obvious that the compability page does show N80 is supported but which setup version to choose? I myself have Nokia Maps installed previously. But I believe there are new feature and interface in the latest version of Nokia Maps.
Yes, mymobilesite.net is available for N80, but perhaps the new firmware can include it in the new firmware release to save other the hassle to install
    something to add:
ix) HSDPA mobile internet surfing speed (3.5G?)

  • Still no firmware update for PC 0573802 on N96!!!

I have had this phone for over a month and up till now there is no sign that Nokia have released a firmware upadate for product code 0573802. It is really odd that everyone has had a chance to update their firmware and I did not!! Is this product code wrong or Nokia forgot about it!!???
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

The truth is the product code 0573802 is Euro 1 Line 2 specific. It is sold by the CPW on Orange but it is not SP-locked. The trouble is that the genius at Nokia released the N96 on 100's of products code and seems that they totally lost the plot to keep track of it all. On the top the FOTA and NSU issue. Why would anyone need two methods of FW update. Unless you are very technical you will have to wait endlessly for Nokia to sort it out. I waited for 6 weeks and found another way to get the V11.101 but when I mentioned slightly how it is done the moderators removed my post. First they launched the N96 before even it is market worthy then they deprive the customers by not letting them to update. No wonder their share prices and quarterly profits are going downhill. I was a Nokia user for many years but now there are much better handsets out their and they dont cost you a fortune. I went through two n96 replacements and even had the 11.101 on one still it had its flaws. The N96 is rubbish and it is worthless. Someone from the Nokia might argue OW.
I am stuck with my 18 months contract with Orange but got myself a BB Storm. It is not perfect but million times better than the N96.

  • Is there a firmware update for burning at 16x with Matshita DVD-R UJ 845E?

Is there a firmware update for burning at 16x with Matshita DVD-R UJ 845E? I'm trying to burn a DVD using iDVD on my iBook. The blank DVD's are Memorex 16x (I've used Memorex 8x successfully in the past), the DVD drive is specified above. The finder tells me that the drive has reported an error "sense key=medium error/ sense code=0x73, 0x03" I couldn't find firmware updates in either Panasonic Matshita or Apple websites. Am I forever confined to 8x DVD-R's with this laptop?

    ibook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

    First, welcome to the discussions.
Sorry, No Firmware update to allow you to burn at 16X.
The drive you have is only capable of burning at 8X.
You will also find that for the most part when you recieve errors that it is more often than not attributed to MEDIA.
There are so many problems with the cheaper media they are to numerous to cover.
DVD is not at all like CD burning, in that the technology as well as the Optical Drives used, seem to be touchy, and require the use of good Media. This will allow you trouble free burning without errors.
    http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm
You will also find that the reason that DVD-R Media works the best, is because it is the most wirely used and recognised in both Computers and Players.
If I may suggest. There are several 16X DVD's on the market.
Take your time and look at the back of the Jewel Cases and read. You will see that the better Media will tell you that it will burn at 1X through and including 16X, if your drive is capable of handleing these speeds. I prefer Maxell 16X DVD-R Media in the individual Jewel Cases. This Media burns at the slower speeds on the older Superdrives that will only burn at 1X or 2X.
Like many others I have learned my lessons the hard way.
    Cheers Don

  • What was the last firmware version for the Zen Micro before M

I would like to know what was the last firmware version for the Zen Micro before the MTP firmware?
Please make sure you are 00% on this.
    Thankyou.

I think it does, but I'm not sure; since I wanted MTP, I only used .x firmware long enough to save the original Creative test files (with MediaSource, not ZMME) before upgrading to 2.x. And yes, I had to li've with 2..02's shorter battery life until 2.20.05 came out.
May I ask why you want to go back to .x firmware? The only thing that will get you is the ability to use it with Win98SE/2000/Me--but only if you can install Creative drivers on every PC you use it with. MTP requires WinXP SP or 2 and WMP 0, but doesn't need any Creative software at all to work. (Microsoft has made an MTP driver for Win98SE/2000/Me, but it requires customization and may not be supported by other software. I'm tinkering a bit with the customization part right now.)
There are other pitfalls in changing Micro firmware families, in either direction--you'll lose all the files on your Micro, you'll have to install a different ZMME (and I've heard non-MTP ZMME isn't quite as full-featured as MTP ZMME), and you'll need a new plug-in for MediaSource to work.

  • I have a G5 and bought and upgraded to osx 10.5.  now i need to upgrade to 10.5.6 or higher, but when i download and try to install, i get message "this volume does not meet requirements for this update".

i am trying to sync an ipad to a power mac g5.  i bought and upgraded to osx 10.5 and have tried to download and 10.5.6 or higher, but i keep getting same message:  "you cannot install mac os x update on this volume.  this volume does not meet requirements for this update".  help!

Mac OS X 10.5.8 Combo Update
Java for Mac OS X 10.5 Update 5
To me, in all such updates, goes without saying maybe: backup, repair permissions, repair your drive (Disk Warrior does more reliable and thorough job, and it comes out to pennies if you don't wait until needed). Clone your system so you can restore or use the backup - just in case.
I'd even do a fresh format after your clone is done and do a full OS clean install and update, and then a quick import from Setup Assistant.
Mac computer with USB 2.0 port
Mac OS X v10.5.8 or later
    iTunes 10.2 or later recommended
    (free download from www.itunes.com/download)
    iTunes Store account
    Internet access
I'm going to assume there is something with the partitions on the drive, partition table most likely, though I know I've seen others with that error message - doesn't really point to cause, rarely does (make sure latest firmware update etc is sometimes included but again, we know that isn't why).

  • Ipod shuffle system requirements for itunes 5 are they real?

The System requirements posted on Apple's website ( http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore?family=iPodshuffle) for the Shuffle say it will work with iTunes 4.7.1 or later.
    Mac System Requirements
    - A Mac with USB port*
    - Mac OS X v10.2.8 or Mac OS X 10.3.4 and later (Mac OS X 10.3.6 or later recommended for use with low-power USB ports)
    - iTunes 4.7.1 or later (included)
The box on a new Shuffle says
Mac OS X v10.2.8 or Mac OS X 10.3.4 or later [snip]
    - iTunes 5.0 or later (included)
I've been using my Shuffle with X.3.8, iTunes 4.7.1 and iTunes 4.9, and Quicktime 6.5.2 until its minijack went defective. I need a replacement shuffle and don't want to upgrade my OS, my itunes, or my QT.
Are these system requirements for real? If I use the iPod Shuffle 1.1 updater will the new Shuffle work with my OS/itunes?
I ask about the updater because once when my current shuffle's playcount stoped updating an Apple Genius suggesting updating the firmware from ipod updater 1 to 1.1 and ever since I can't restore it to version 1 (it gives failure to update errors). I worry that a new Shuffle won't be downgradeable.
If not what version of itunes 5 is best? I recall it was so buggy that it was bum rushed out the door.
Under no circumstances do I want itunes 6. I had 6.0.1. and 6.0.2 on a new hard disk a few months ago (and it required X.3.9 and QT 7) and it was awful! The sound volume dropped precipitously and the sound check didn't work.

Never mind. I returned the Shuffle for a refund. Apple lost a repeat sale by failing to practice the slightest bit of backwards compatibility!
I'm now in the market for an MP3 player that will work on Macs and that can also record audio. If anyone knows of any makes/models please let me know.

  • WRT54GS V7 resets when version update is required for PS3 content

Been having this problem for a while now.  the router works fine most of the time.  But when a game or firmware update is required for the PS3 and is attempting to dowload the router will cycle off and back on and the dowload can not be completed.  This only happens when the version of something requires updateing.  I can dowload PSN store content, game online w/ no problem it only happens when version updates are needed.  Can anyone please help with this?

I will check on the firmware version tonight.  I did see that in the configuration, but I am unsure how to upgrade it.  It ask me to name a config file I don't know what to do there.
I can usually get the issue to resolve after repeated attempts at downloading.  it seems to be a timing and specific type of action issue.  It only occurs when the PS3 firmware needs updating or a new patch for a game comes out.  I can download PSN content without problems.  Patches will begin to download then the router cycles off/on and dowloading can not be competed.  However with enough attempts the timing will be such that the router will cycle after accepting yes that informs of the patch, but before actual downloading begins.  then i will get the 'Please wait...." screen that occurs prior to the screen with the download progress bar.  When the route recconects it jumps to the progress screen and I can get the whole patch to download and install.  It is just frustrating as takes several attempts to get it to time this way.
I see that people are experiencning similar issues with other Linksys routers.  Was wondering if anyone knows what this only occurs with this particular function and with nothing else and how to fix.
P.S. thanks torque for the message, I will look into those products.

While upgrading to the 2.0.1 iPhone Firmware the phone locked and now it won't sync with iTunes in that it states that "The iPhone cannot be used with iTunes because the information required for activation cannot be obtained from the iPhone." Does this mean that the iPhone needs to be returned, or is their a manual way to fix this problem?

    To enter recover mode:
    1. Turn your phone OFF. If you can't turn it off, FORCE a turn off by holding down the Power and the Home buttons together for 5 seconds.
    2. While your phone is turned OFF, HOLD DOWN the Home button. Keep it held down.
    3. Connect your phone to the USB cable on your computer. KEEP the Home button held down during all this time.
    4. Keep holding the Home button down until you see the iTunes/restore screens appear on your computer and your iPhone.

  • M20 firmware update for wps vulnerability

Can someone advise when Cisco will be releasing a firmware update for the Valet M20 router to address the WPS vulnerability problem  (e.g. disable the feature, something which *should* have been incorporated into the router in the first place).
    Thanks.

Cisco... does not care... about Valet people.
The most recent firmware was released in the 1920's, I believe. It's common practice in the technology sector as a whole to consider electronics as "legacy" devices after about 6 months to a year. Wish DD-WRT ran on this, your configuration choices are pretty much SSID, router's IP and the ability to enable or disable DHCP. Compared to open source firmwares like DD-WRT and Tomato... or even compared to other router firmwares (D-Link firmwares give a lot more control and access to advanced configuration settings-- if you can handle it). I think it's pretty clear that the intended market focus for these routers were... the users who... did not plug the power cord into the router because it said it was "wireless".
Uh oh, did I say that out loud? No... I typed it, though.
The hilarious thing about this is I work as a systems/network admin and have 20 years of experience... and this router gave me trouble when I just decided to be lazy and try setting it up using WPS and the setup program. What a disaster! I finally just did a hard reset and logged in via browser and did it the real way... but I found that extremely amusing, that by dumbing things down so much, it actually made the process (to me, at least) 10x more complicated!
Oh... I threw this one in place of my normal router because it has been acting really flaky lately... it has served its time and paid its dues, surely. I picked up the M20 on clearance for like $10 I think-- for this very purpose... to keep as a backup in my closet if my normal router decided to kick the bucket.
I'm online, so... I guess this Valet M20 is serving its purpose but the lack of configurability is just plain painful! You know what would be a great idea? For Linksys/Cisco to supply an alternative "advanced user" firmware that isn't concerned with giving users enough rope to hang themselves with. People like me and other users who know what they're doing will already know how to flash it and get going-- don't even bother with user guides and pleasantries. Not needed. Also not needed? The splitting headache that swap gave me. A "5-minute task" became a "45-minute chore". I did install the iPhone admin app and found it to be just as watered down.
It seems an odd thing to me that you'd add the option to totally change the SSID or password (something that would require you to update the configuration on all of your wireless clients), yet left out access to things that would be much more practical and useful from a smartphone-- like being able to view the logs-- I would actually find that very useful. I already know that it's a Valet M20. Could have skipped that. Now, being able to reboot the router without having to get up and go to the computer or have to go to the web admin page on my phone, strain to find that option on a page only coded for desktop display... that's useful. The guest enable/disable would be useful, too... if there were any guests here. For some reason, I can't get anyone to hang out... LOL. Ok, rant is finished, I was just testing the connection and ended up here after getting the latest firmware. Thought I'd take a moment to share my thoughts since I'm biding my time, waiting on someone at the moment. This post is an artifact and memorium of the time killed typing it up. Yeah, that's sort of a self-referencing, paradox-ish type thought, hmm. Ok, hah. Really leaving now...

  • Is there any way to get firmware update for my DVD-RW Drive from Ultra 40?

Hi, I have Sun Ultra 40 Workstation which comes with Matshita DVD-RAM drive.
While I do enjoy working on my U40 workstation, its DVD-RAM drive is wll pretty bad.
It just fails to burn DVD/CD-R/RW media too often.
Yes, I got it serviced, but it's just the same.
So my final hope is to get the latest firmware, becuase latest firmware often solves such media compatability issues.
Mine has D100 firmware and I find other people who has the same drive on different system have D101, D200, D201 firmware.
So does anyone know how to contact Sun to get the latest firmware for my DVD-RAM drive?
I did contacted Matshita for this matter and they tell me to contact Sun. But I cannot even find email address for Sun Support or any. sigh...
    Thanks.
    Sang

    Hello Sang,
I have Sun Ultra 40 Workstation which comes with Matshita DVD-RAM drive.
Mine has D100 firmware and I find other people who has the same drive on different system have D101, D200, D201 firmware.
So does anyone know how to contact Sun to get the latest firmware for my DVD-RAM drive?
I did contacted Matshita for this matter and they tell me to contact Sun.
I did review the Full Components List for the Ultra 40. The only DVD drives listed (Part No. 370-7970) are Panasonic UJ-485 and Teac DV-W28SLA-093. Both aren't capable of reading or writing DVD-RAM.
In some countries Panasonic uses Matshita as brand name.
I did a search on SunSolve with the keywords DVD firmware.
Sun supplies only firmware updates for two DVD readers: Toshiba DVD 1401 (fixes: unable to boot from Solaris 8 DVD) and Toshiba SD-C2732 (fixes: returns incorrect data).
I was unable to update the firmware of the SD-C2732 (Sun part) with the Sun patch. The drive was attached to an Ultra 10 (with an adapter). I ended attaching the drive to a PC and using a DOS boot floppy with the Toshiba flash program and the Sun firmware.
Regarding you problems with the drive: Have you tried another brand of media. The Ultra 40 is under warranty (GA date was February 14, 2006).
Use the contact information from your other thread.
If you search the net for firmware you can locate sites that offers region-code-free firmware for several drives. Usually they provide a flash program (requires creation of a DOS boot floppy). Using these programs/firmware voids your warranty. Maybe you can not revert the firmware upgrade.
These slimline drives have no jumpers, the installed firmware (of the drive) determines if the drive is master, slave, uses cable-select (CS) or reversed CS.
