Is new Numbers missing features as new Pages is?

I was greatly dismayed at the eviscerating update of Pages. Due to the missing features, new Pages is unusable to me. I haven't yet looked at the new version of Numbers. Is it eviscerated as well? Is it also missing features of the software it was meant to improve on?

Missing features in new Pages

I was using a report template in the new Pages and I noticed at least 2 missing features that used to make things really easy.
There is no longer a way to select multiple objects:Say you create a diagram with several shapes, arrows & text boxes, if you have to move the diagram or delete it, you have to manually select every object. I looked in the help section for a short cut, but no such short cut is referenced. SOOO annoying and heaven forbid your palm grazes the touch pad!
There is no longer a way to insert pre-designed pages in a template.I created a report using a template, but when I go to insert a new section, I have to re-create (by c&p!) the sections! I used to be able to selct a page style for a new section (insert new head page, text page, photo page...etc.).
My hope is that I'm just missing something, otherwise the new Pages is much less "user-friendly" than it used to be and that doesn't feel like an "improvement".
Any shortcuts that more advanced users might know of?

I have the same problem. Unfortunately, I never had Pages 4.3, so I have nothing to revert back to. Pages was my last hope at exporting a doc to a pdf on a mac with working links - and of course, I buy it only to find out it no longer works in Pages 5. #headdesk
Any suggestions? (Google Docs is not an option, they redirect the links in the doc through their own URLs with tracking codes).

Why are pictures and pages missing from doc created in Pages 09 when I try to open it in the new Pages?

I created a large document earlier this year in Pages 09 ... over 100 pages and it has screen prints, pictures and text boxes ... when I try to open it in the new Pages 5.5.1, all of these pics, text boxes, etc, are missing!!! I can open it in the old Pages, and they are all there, but in the new Pages, half of my document is missing! I want to have it work in the new Pages because what if I upgrade to a new computer ... I will not have access to Pages 09 anymore! Plus, the "Page Layout" option is missing in Pages 5.5.1 - what was Apple thinking with this update? Please help!

Bean doesn't do layout and is no longer being developed.
MsOffice or LibreOffice [free] are alternatives but not at the moment 100% solutions.
MsOffice has most of the features in a clumsier fashion in most cases but is a bit of a kludge on the Mac.
LibreOffice has a rather rough user interface and still lacks Pages '09 features.
Really we are in Limbo until we get something else completely.
For office work, I suggest LibreOffice or NisusWriter. Just so you can still get at it in the future.
I have been warning about this inevitability for years. Hasn't made me popular.

Facing pages options missing in new Pages

Am I missing something or is the facing pages options not available in new Pages app?

Fitzherbert if you are working on a book (which most people using the Facing Pages feature are) then you probably want to use iBooks Author.

It is a great app and you can export your book as a PDF if you don't want to publish it on iBooks.

Since switching to the new pages, my old documents will not open, saying the index.xml file is missing

When attempting to open a file that was created prior to up-grading to the new "pages" it says "cannot open file the index.xml file is missing??" What can I do to fix this??

Reopen these documents with the correct version (5) of Pages. Only Pages '09 documents contain an index.xml, and when you try to open a Pages v5 document in Pages '09, you get that dialog box.

They changed Final Cut Pro, so now I use Premier Pro
Aperture 3 has been left behind so now I moved to Lightroom 4.
And now Pages 5 does not have a vital component, so back to Word.

Cannot copy a section in new "Pages 5." Miss "dynamic templates."

I loved being able to create a document with tables, graphics and other detailed material on a page that was its own "section." Then when I wanted to re-use it IN THAT SAME DOCUMENT, like an order form for example, I could copy it as many times as I liked in the same docuemnt, delete whatever parts were not needed in the copy and use it as a kind of "dynamic template."
How do you copy a whole page all at once with complex content in the New pages?

You can't really, other than to manually select all the content starting at the top of the page and paste elsewhere.
Working with pages as pages has been abandoned in Pages.

What's New Page missing

Hi,
ever since I've updated Firefox to version 16 (or something) the What's New page has been gone. First, I thought it's just a temporary glitch or something (my add-ons are messing with it, or whatever) but today my pc forced me to re-install Firefox from scratch and I'm 1oo% sure that I wasn't using Firefox 20 back then. So, after installing the latest version (20) my bookmarks, add-ons and preferences were gone, still, the What's New page didn't show up.
Any ideas what I can do to get it back?

Where are the many missing features in Numbers found?

The more that I use Numbers the less likely that I will ever go through the motions of trying to get Numbers to do enough of the things that have to be done in order for my income tax program to work. Like in another post I have some of my smaller tax forms to say that they are too big to be imported. There seems to be too many missing features to do a useful job.
This leaves trying to use Numbers to handle new small, small, small spreadsheets. At the present times I have little problem setting up a format for a cell providing the formatting is available. In Excel the easiest way to copy a format to a new cell is to use format painter. Many time copy/paste will work. But copy/paste will move the formula also. I have not been able to find a way to do this with Numbers.
So far the sliders feature is the one feature that interests me enough to try to use Numbers in the real work handling portion of my business. Many things I want to do either I can't find out how to do them or there are too many added keystrokes needed compared to Excel to make me want to do a spreadsheet in Numbers.
Since the majority of my spreadsheets do not use a header row or header column I have to get that turned off. Tax sheets have a lot of blank spaces to start things out & normally will be different than the next sheet.
I used a lot of cell/range names as well as individual cells. I use 450+ cell names in my main Form 1040, A,B,D,NE,IA page. That still leaves me needing to know the row/column designation most of the time. I cannot find where that information is displayed in Numbers.
I keep looking, but generally do not find the needed feature that I need. Many like the cell designation is so basic. Being able to use the arrow keys to move to a cell for inclusion in a formula is another one that I am unable to do. Using the help files do not come close to answering any question that I have with Numbers. Where is the Numbers, "Missing Manual?" I need what I don't have & may not be made at the current time.
Like Pages 1.0, Numbers 1.0 doesn’t seem ready for prime time use. There are too many missing features be a very complete spreadsheet. Some I probably can’t find, some probably are not there.
I need help.

Problems with the new Pages for Mac

I'm starting to see countless problems running the new Pages for Mac (5.0.1) and I can't find a way to resolve them.
1. when I'm typing and want to delete word(s), I'll use the alt+delete function for ease, however this starts deleting words after the cursor, merging words together and changing my sentece. It comes from when I'm deleting as the new pages is giving me the dropdown menu for the autocorrect word.
2. grammar check is off. Namely, it picks a random point in a word and moves on from there. EX: "because of the" will have "use of the" underlined in green and give me recommendations to change to "because of the" or "cause of the". Using those recommendations, I'll end up with something like: "becabecause of the"
3. the find and replace function jumps around in the paper, and sometimes doesn't even display the word currently selected (leaving the user to scroll around looking for what is selected)
4. Autocorrect has vanished for some reason: no autocapitalization, no turning fractions such as 1/2 into a tidy and neat fraction with small numbers for numerators/denominators, etc.
I'm still using it, and these are what I have found, so there may be more later as I continue to use it. If anyone has found ways around these bugs, please let me know.

Pages 5 now uses the system autocorrect, which does not have as many features as the one inside Pages 4. Some things you can add manually there. Others you have to ask Apple to add via

Can't open Pages 05 saved in Dropbox on new Pages iPad app and visa-versa

Updated to the new Pages 05 on all my devices (macbook, iPad, iPhone). Problem now is that I want to save documents into Dropbox. Works fine when saving a file from my macbook to dropbox, and then opening it on my macbook again. But whenever I create a document on either the macbook or iPad and save it into dropbox, it will not allow me to open it on the other device. I am very uneducated in this area, especially the new 'packages' that files are put in now, I'm not understanding how this all works and why I cannot open a pages file created on my macbook in a pages app on my iPad and visa-versa.

I've just encountered this problem trying to work away from my main mac on pages and numbers documents, through my iPad - this was a great feature through dropbox - now it's just another frustration - Apple why are you taking us backwards? To resolve it I have to spend time moving all my documents to iCloud which is just making what was a brilliantly simple file sharing option, now very complicated.

IWeb • How Do I Make Links in an Embedded PDF Document Open in New Page?

On this page http://ostyn-newman.com/Gov_Downloads.html I have a PDF document that is embedded. I tried an IFrame, but everything seemed to work better for me with the "Embed" code. I am open to changing this if it would be better. Here's my problem. I can get the PDF document to display fine, but when I click on the links in the PDF document, the destination page opens in the embedded window. I want the links to open the destination in a new window.
I created the part of the document with most of the links (Pages 8.5 - 56) in Numbers and cut and pasted the table into a Pages document to create the completed document on our site. I exported the docuemnt from Pages as a PDF file which is what you see. There is also a link to download the file on the same page which works just fine.
I have tried to insert the target="_blank" code but have not been able to get it to open the destination pages in a new window. I am inserting the code by using the Insert/Widget/HTML Snippet Feature in IWeb. Here is the code I am using.

It is live on my site. You can see that the embedded document still opens the destination links in the embedded window.
As for your other two suggestions, thank you as well. I am aware of those techniques and did not use them because that is not how I want the other PDF links on the page to behave. The catalog and autocad blocks downloads in the box at the top should simply download (or behave however the client's browser is configured to handle downloaded PDF documents or zip files.) I don't intend to force those to open a new window. I could also have our client click on a link to the PDF document and open it in a new page (like in your second suggestion) but I was hoping to embed the PDF and have it automatically viewable on our Download • Terms • Prices Page with all of the PDF search functions intact as well as the links be active. My only complaint at this point is that the links in the embedded PDF document open the destination page in the embed window instead of a new window. I only want to force a new window because the destination window doesn't behave properly when it opens in my embed window and it is difficult to figure out how to go back to the my PDF document when a destination window gets opened in the embed window. The code you sent didn't do the trick. Or maybe I didn't get it exactly right. That is why I included it above. Thanks for trying though. I appreciate the effort.
I would be willing to bypass the imbed/iFrame route altogether if I could just somehow drop the Pages document into the IWeb page and retain the search and link features, but I've not been able to figure out how to do that. When I was exploring how to directly drop a Pages document into an IWeb page is when I stumbled on the method of embedding a PDF document into an IWeb page to retain the important search and link features.

New Pages no longer allows SECTIONS (in thumbnail view window) to be re-arranged like before? You could drag and drop sections within your document the same way you could drag and drop pages in Preview's PDF documents. So how do you re-arrnage your document now?

You used to be able to duplicate/copy a section/page by draging it with OPTION-LEFT-CLICK to a space below or above in the thumbnial window. The same way it works in PREVIEW in a PDF document. Did I miss something or is this also a bug?!

Pages '09 should still be in your Applications/iWork folder.
Archive/trash Pages 5 and rate/review it in the App Store, then get back to work.

Did New Pages 5.0 for Mac allow bookmarks?

I have several document that in the footer i had wrote a link pointing to my table of contents. But when I upgraded to MacOS Mavericks my documents now are a completely mess and i lost images inside tables (i used tables to put an images and caption image together), etc.
But the most important thing are that i lost my links to parts of my documents! Any chance that i recover my document back when my docs were perfect? I tried to use revisions but didn't work.

I've been sitting here trying to discover how to make bookmarks and down-page links, but it appears that I'm wasting my time. I'm very frustrated with the new version of Pages so far. It doesn't work nearly as well as the previous version. It's missing features, it's not nearly as intuitive, and it simply doesn't work as well.
I'm generally very enthusiastic about Pages when I talk with friends, especially those who use Word. I cannot recommend the current version of Pages to them.
For those of you who have lost formatting from an existing document, have you tried Time Machine? Also, when you do a two-finger tap on the icon for your document and click 'Open With,' you should be offered the option of opening your document with a previous version of Pages.
I won't even attempt to use the new version until they fix these problems.
