  • OSX 10.6.8 UPGRADE WINDOW PROBLEM!

    Dear friends,
I have a OSX 10.6.8 and from yesterday I CAN'T use Safari, Chrome, Firefox, no more! An Upgrade windows (that one you see here) appear and - if I accept the upgrading - he downloads me just a useless setup.exe file, even if I select the "Remind me later" option. Never had a problem like that... It's a big problem for me... What can I do?
    Thank you all

  • Hi, I am running Mac OS X 10.5.8 (9L31a) Mac Pro. Can I upgrade to enable the new OSX maverick software?

I am unsure about upgrading the OSX 10.5.8 (9L31a) software on my mac pro (2006-7) model. Would or could I upgrade to snow leopard to enable the new OSX Maverick to work on my unit.
    Thank you.

A 2007 Mac Pro isn't capable of running Mavericks. The newest OS it can run is Lion 10.7.5; installing it requires going through Snow Leopard or finding a Mac OS X 10.7 install thumbdrive.

I am keep getting this error "The disk is used for Time Machine Backup" when installing the new OSX Mountain Lion" when doing the upgrade to newly OS.

The folder would be at the root of your hard drive. Double-click Macintosh HD and look there.
If it isn’t there, I’m not sure what it is seeing.

I have never been able to use the Macmail feature.  Running OSX 10.4.11, and the problems appear to be related to the fact that when I originally registered my computer with apple, I used an old e-mail address which is now defunct.  Have since upgraded the e-mail address in account manger, but it still locks me out and rejects my user name and password when I try to log in.  It seems it established an account for me automatically when I first fired the beast up, but now the Macmail program is uncooperative with me.  Any assistance would be much appreciated, Thanks

Hi rbcjoker76, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Sounds like some needed System Fonts wre replaced by bad ones. Y also have Font Book in Applications for validating fonts & checking for duplicates.
Required Fonts from 10.3, much the same in 10.4...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2444?viewlocale=en_US
You may have to get Pacifist...
    http://www.charlessoft.com/
then intall the Fonts what you need from your Install Disk.
Or do a relatively painless Archive & Install, which gives you a new/old OS, but can preserve all your files, pics, music, settings, etc., as long as you have plenty of free disk space and no Disk corruption, and is relatively quick & painless...

Most likely you have Office 2004 which are PPC-only applications and will not work in Lion. Upgrade to Office 2011. Other alternatives are:
Apple's iWork suite (Pages, Numbers, and Keynote.)
Open Office (Office 2007-like suite compatible with OS X.)
    NeoOffice (similar to Open Office.)
LibreOffice (a new direction for the Open Office suite.)

  • How do I update Safari without new OSX?

I have a 1 GB Intel core 2 running Safari 5.0.6 It no works on all sites. How can I update Safari without installing a new OS? My OS is 10.5.8

Where do I get new OSX??
    You start here:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
That disk updates your computer to OS10.6 but also give you the Mac App Store application, the mechanism for all current and future upgrades.
However, newer Mac OS versions may need more RAM than you computer shipped with to run acceptably. Yours probably shipped with 2GB; the current Mac OS--10.10 Yosemite--is hard to run on less than 4GB. You model's RAM can be upgraded to 4GB officially but, with a newer, larger (and more expensive) special module, you can increase it to 6GB.

  • Today Apple retail unit sold me Airport Time Capsule. Now trying to install on my Mac which runs OSX10.6.8. Seems I should have newer OSX and Airport Utility version. What can I do please?

Today Apple retail unit/shop in sold me Airport Time Capsule. Now trying to install on my 21 inch iMac which runs OSX10.6.8. Seems I should have newer OSX and also newer Airport Utility version (mine is 5.6.1). What can I do, please? So much looking forward to using Time Capsule. It is not at all readable on box. Now with a magnified glass I can just about make out the installation requirements printed in tiny print at the bottom/base of the box! I have tried software update etc etc and to download Airport Utility update from Apple website. This was unsuccessful because of OSX, I gathered. Appreciate any similar experience and how it was resolved. Thank you. Tr

You need OS X 10.7.5 or later. Most likely you can upgrade OS X on your iMac. You already have 10.6.8 and access to the App Store. If your computer qualifies to run Mavericks, then that is what you would upgrade to, otherwise, you would upgrade to Lion.
    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mavericks, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion at the Online Apple Store. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
    Upgrading to Mavericks
You can upgrade to Mavericks from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mavericks can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for FREE.
    Upgrading to Mavericks
To upgrade to Mavericks you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Download Mavericks from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mavericks is free. The file is quite large, over 5 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
        OS X Mavericks- System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mavericks
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.

  • Since updating my iPhone my Macbook will not sync I believe its because I am on OSX10.5.8 can i download the new OSX software?

Since updating my iPhone my Macbook will not sync I believe its because I am on OSX10.5.8 can i download the new OSX software?

You will need to upgrade to Snow Leopard 10.6.8 in order to update iTunes to sync with your iPhone.
Start by checking if you can run Snow Leopard:
Requirements for OS X 10.6 'Snow Leopard'
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575
The OS 10.6 Snow Leopard install DVD is available for $19.99 from the Apple Store:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
    and in the UK:
    http://store.apple.com/uk/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
When you have installed it, run Software Update to download and install the latest updates for Snow Leopard to bring it up to 10.6.8, or download the combo update from here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399
Check via Software Update whether any further updates are required, particularly to iTunes.
You should now see the App Store icon in iTunes, and you now need to set up your account:

  • OSX version, can I upgrade to a supported version ?

Inputs from apple & customer user's perspective:
    - There's a compatibility issue everytime apple decides not to support older hardware with an upcoming new osx system version
    - I would design the system in a way that during the installation the hardware is inspected and the system installed adaptively to the hardware, no matter how old.
So that I might be able to run a maverick 10.9 version on a G4 powerbook, of course only with features supported by the hardware and that allow a performance with no disadvantages compared e.g. to a tiger 10.4 version. etc.
    - That way you could keep running your old hardware if it's ok with the performance and purpose you need and still run a fully supported newer osx version.
    - Not comfortable to be obligated to replace your expensive and still performant hardware completely just because apple does not support any systems anymore that would be compatible with the hardware …
    - I also would not release Bootcamp versions depending on OSX version regarding Windows version dependencies. Why can' t I run Windows 7 bootcamp on OSX 10.6 if I can't upgrade to 10.9 because of hardware incompatibility ?
    Isn't it ?
    Cheers

If you need to get suggestions to someone in Apple Development, use this link:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html
The forum you found is technically for Mac hardware made before 1998 and gets very little traffic, plus Apple developers do not routinely read these forums. Everyone here is an end-user like you.

  • New OSX not does not work with RED Rocket Card and old OSX Randomly Logs Out - UNSTABLE

It looks like my MBPR 16GB (MacBook Pro) randomly logs out and causes my programs to quit unsaved.  I can not update to the new OSX mountain Lion because the new Apple release is no longer compatible with the RED Rocket card needed for debaying RED Scarlet footage.  Mountain Lion causes the RED Rocket to not run correctly with Adobe Premiere.
At the same time, I am on Lion and my computer randomly logs me out and I lose all my work.  It seems as though the Retina is unstable.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Can someone tell me how I can return this.  It seems as though I may have to switch the entire company over to PC if this is not figured out soon.

You probably have not received responses for two reasons.
    1. There are not many here that know what this is "RED Rocket card needed for debaying RED Scarlet footage"
    2. Your post appears to contain some sort of threat to Apple about moving to PCs. You are not addressing Apple here. We are users just like you. We don't care if you change over to PCs.
MBPs and Lion are very stable. Maybe your unsupported third party Red card is causing issues. Their answer seems to be that Mountain Lion is not supported. I wonder why?
My suggestion if this is a business environment is to not mess with this. If you know for a fact that your Red card works with PCs, change over to PCs. I know that if some tool was not working for my business I would not hesitate to get something that worked.

  • Deskjet 3050 not compatible with new OSx Lion

Yesterday i purchased a new MacBook Pro from the apple store and it came with a free HP Deskjet 3050 all-in-one j610 series printer. Upon putting in the disk to install and setup the printer it said it wasnt compatible with the new OSx 10.7, Only 10.5 and 10.6 are supported? Long story short my router (that VerizonFios provided) doesn't support WPS so i need to use the USB option to connect my new printer to my network but my MacBook OS isnt supported. Please help. Thats kind of a shame that i get a free printer and cant set it up.

Its just sad that they would even provide a promotion product that isnt compatible with their own. Im going to try and set it up wireless-ly with my pc and if that fails im going back to the store. Thats such a shame that they would do that.

  • After the new 10.9.2 Maverick upgrade, my Photosmart C4480 3 in 1 printer can not scan and save the file to desktop or documents.  You can only see the image in the print preview area. Does anyone know how to fix this or when a fix will be out?

After Aple support downloaded the new 10.9.2 Maverick upgrade on my MacBook Air, my Photosmart C4480 3 in 1 printer can not scan a document and load the file on to my desktop or document file. (You can see the doc image in the preview but it doesn't save it.) Does anyone know an Apple fix for this or when the fix will be out?  After hours of trying reloading, and the usual fixes, etc. Apple told me to call HP, and HP told me they don't support Mac.  It does not seem honorable of Apple to put out an upgrade and not tell people it will destroy their scanning ability, and that the only thing to do is to buy another printer/scanner.

Have you tried using Applications/Image Capture to scan.
    Vuescan often works.

  • Should I downgrade from OSX 10.8.5 to OSX 10.4, then upgrade to 10.5 or 10.6 from there?

Ever since I upgraded to 10.8 earlier this year, my MBP seems to struggle with every application and process.  Nothing operates smoothly, and Chrome, which I absolutely loved using prior, is significantly outperformed by safari.  I can no longer view the 1080p video from my GoPro Hero 1 (which played flawlessly smooth on Snow leopard), start up and shut down times are embarrassing, and simply scrolling any page in any application lags.  I've also performed a clean install, but to no avail.
I think that restoring my computer back to OSX 10.4, then upgrading to 10.5 or 10.6 might be the best solution for me.
Background on my 15" MBP that I purchased in August 2007.
-2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    -4 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
-NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT 256 MB
    -160 GB
I backed my computer up with 10.4, upgraded to 10.5, using the same external drive to back everything up via Time Machine in 10.5, and from 10.5 I upgraded to 10.8 which I've also used the same external drive to create a Time machine back up for.
    What should I do?

I'm not opposed to doing that.  I have a 10.6 disk that came included with my mothers iMac.  Being that it isn't the retail version, would that work?
