Is NewerTech Wireless Adaptor known to fail on iMac G5, ISO 10.4.11?

I have a G5 iMac PPC with a Newer Tech Wireless Adaptor which is showing that my LAN is acitve (but vacilating off and on).  Is there a way to test to see if the stick is faullty?  At one time, last week, it was changing from my LAN to that of my neighbors.  Today it just switches from on to off and back to on but FF and Safari won't connect.  My other computers access the internet with no problem.

Hi a brody!  I have a wireless mouse and a wired keyboard and the NT Ethernet Adaptor.  I had this problem before and got it fixed then it recurred this week.  I went back and found the thread where I fixed it and got it going but when I turned it on this pm it was baulky again.  Is there a way to test the stick?
I think I just discovered why it was failing to maintain a connection today.  I had an email that I wanted to keep and still wanted it off my mail list in my other coumputer (iMac Intel 21")   I had the page on both the monitors, I deleted it on the Intel and FireFox broke the connection on the PPC but kept the page on the monitor.  I restarted the page and FF reconnected sans the page in question so I guess it's all well now.  There are so many things I don't know about these machines I seem to keep getting into trouble with them.  Can I have mail delivered to both machines then toss it on one machine and keep it on the other?

  • LEAP wireless clients work, then fail, Using WISM blades HELP

I am at a complete loss. Calls to Cisco, working with different vendors, nothing has worked to solve the problem. This is what we see, and we see this at every single one of our hospital sites.
All hospitals used to run just IOS code on their AP's. Some hospitals used the older 1200 series AP's, which have been upgraded from B only radios to A/B/G. Some hospitals were rolled out with newer 1240 series AP's. Every single hospital was just fine when using IOS code on the AP's. Users never disconnected or disassociated. They were fine. Clients run a mixture of the old Cisco 350 series cards, or Ubiquiti A/B/G cards.
Now, fast forward and we started installing WISM blades in all the 6509 distribution switches at each hospital. AP's were then upgraded to lightweight code and at first everything seemed great. Then the calls started.
All clients at all hospitals will just disassociate. It is completely random. Some machines can see it once, others 50 times a day, then tomorrow, totally different. I have witnessed the same thing with my laptop. We have 3 WLAN's in the hospitals. One that uses LEAP authentication, one that uses Certificates, and one that is our Patient WiFi. Both LEAP and Certs have the issue. I have never been kicked off of the Patient WiFi system. Not once.
LEAP clients use the same exact ACS servers they have always used. Nothing changed in the configs. Same goes for the clients using certificates.
I have upgraded code on the WISM blades 3 times now. Currently we are using the 5.187 code. I have tried forcing all AP's to use only B/G radios, tried using only A, doesn't matter. Same problem happens.
What is even worse, when this event happens, 50% of the time you have to actually reboot the workstation to get it to log back onto the wireless network. It fails the attempt and it just stops. This is not everyone at the same time either. There seems to be no event that I can find where all clients have the problem at the exact same time. I can have two devices side by side, same exact NIC, same software, everything. One will disassociate, the other is just fine.
I am out of ideas. Everyone I talk to at Cisco says never heard of this before. I just can't believe we are the only ones that have ever seen this problem.
I can take the same workstation that is breaking left and right on our wireless networks using the WISM blades, go to a site with AP's still in IOS mode, it will never disassociate and disconnect.
Has anyone heard of this, have any ideas of something I could try. Would you like to see any other information about this? I can post whatever you like to help. I am looking for any assistance on this.
I have been trying to do some searches on this forum, but for whatever reason it seems to be very slow so thought I might post my issue as I search around, maybe if it has already come up and there is a fix, someone could direct me right too it.
    Thank you in advance.

I tried that in the beginning. Put all ap power and channel as hard set. It did not change anything. I am not sure if we have tried the 4.2.207 code. I know we went through several 4.x.x codes in testing. Cisco recommended the lastest one that we are on now.
What really gets me is how everything worked just fine until the WISM upgrade. No AP placement changed, no additional AP installs, we just installed the WISM blades, migrated code to lightweight and everything started flaking out.
What other NIC's do people use? Maybe the brand we use is not any good? I have been up and down with the vendor, tried different drivers, nothing seemed to change anything.
It looks to me like the WISM sends out some kind of response that the workstation NIC's do not understand, so they just sit there. On wireless sniffer traces, you can see where the request goes out to the workstation, but the workstation just never responds, hence the lockup so to speak. It will just sit there until a reboot of the PC.

  • Voyager 1055 USB Wireless adaptor problems

I have just had a new broadband installation, with a HH3. I am changing over from an old 8Mb broadband on a different line which has a Netgear router on it. I have 3 similar Compaq PCs, 3 Iphone/iPods, and a Mac, and connected my work laptop OK to the HH3.
The 3 PCs, 1 has a Netgear WG111v2 USP wireless adaptor which has connected OK to the HH3. The other 2 have BT Voyager 1055 USB adaptors, neither of which can see the HH3 but connect OK to the Netgear. The PC with the Netgear and one of the Voyagers are in the same room, about 4 feet apart, yet using inSSIDer2, I can see about a dozen wireless networks from all of mine and my neighbours connections, the PC 4 feet away can see only the Netgear and the Openzone from the HH3. I've switched off the Netgear, changed channels on both, reloaded drivers for the Voyager, and it makes no difference.
Is there an issue with the Voyager 1055 that stops it seeing some networks? I've tried everything I can think of, but my last ditch effort will be to switch the routers and put the Netgear on the new broadband. The old broadband will be ceased eventually.
    Thanks
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

The Voyager 1055 is a bit dated now and was originally intended for use with the BT Voyager wireless routers.
There have not been any driver updates since it was first issued.
I have one, and it does not like WPA2 encryption or mixed b/g/n wireless speeds.
If you set the hub3 to use b/g only and WPA only, it should work.
I have TP-link wireless access point and I had to use those settings to allow the 1055 to connect.
In the end I stopped using the 1055 and used a TP-link TL-WN722N USB adapter, which also does wireless N and has an external detachable aerial.

  • New HP Elitedesk 800 G1 - no wireless adaptor?

I have a brand new HP EliteDesk 800 G1 small form factor PC running Windows 7 - code H5T99EA. It doesn't appear to have a wireless adaptor - certainly none shows up in the Harware Profile.
I can only connect to the Internet via ethernet cable. I get no option to connect via wireless and my wireless router is not discovered when I try (nor are any other local wireless access points.
Do I need to download a driver for the wireless adapter - presumably there is one installed?
    Thanks

  • Can't boot with wireless adaptor installed

    Hi all,
I've had a problem for several years with this; I'm finally getting around to dealing with it now.
I have a Pismo G3, OS X 10.4.8, and I've never been able to get the machine to recognize a wireless adaptor (both a RaLink USB one I just bought, and a D-Link DWL-650X before) if the adaptor was plugged into the laptop when it powered up. The only way to make it work is to boot the machine without the adaptor installed, then plug in the device (either the PC card or the USB device) after I'm in the finder. In fact, with the former PC card, if I didn't remove the card at startup, the OS would NEVER see the card; at least with the USB adaptor, I could pull it out and put it back in after startup and it would still work.
There's got to be a way to make this work; because I had the problem with two different cards, and two different drivers, using two different interfaces, I'm thinking it has something to do with the hardware/firmware of the Powerbook itself.
I would even be happy if someone could just give me a script that I could set to run at startup that would just cause the USB port to THINK that it got a device plugged into it (some kind of "re-scan the ports). The device itself is getting power - I can see the light on it, and the other USB devices that are plugged in at startup (like the printer) work fine.
    Any suggestions?

    BigBoote66,
    Welcome to the Discussions.
This is not an uncommon problem with the black G3 powerbooks although I cannot say it is universal; there is just not a large enough base of complaints on these boards to say none of the WiFi cards avoids this problem. My Wallstreet refuses to boot to either 9.x or 10.x with the Buffalo 54Mbps card. Some Pismo owners have to insert the WiFi PC card during a certain phase of the boot to get the card to work. This all appears to be related to the firmware contained on the PC card.
I might suggest this: Call OWC and speak to a technician about the Sonnet Aria Extreme...ask if this particular card avoids your issues. This is a well-regarded, natively-compatible WiFi card which uses the Broadcom chipset. OWC also used to sell the Buffalo AirStation, the card I use, but recent, subtle changes in its firmware introduced the startup problem.

Possibly someone will also post here with the name of a fully compatible card.

  • Satellite A660 - Broadcom internal wireless adaptor is not working

    Hi all,
My first post to this board - I have a new Toshiba Satellite A660 notebook - have only had it for about 4 weeks and it has turned out to be a disaster for me...
FIRST - I spend weeks getting everything on and configured the way I want it - then the hard disk starts to die...
I just got it back from the Toshiba service centre and NOW the wifi has stopped working...
The internal broadcom wireless adaptor is not working - but according to windows and the built in diagnostics it IS working...
HOWEVER - when I try to use wireless with the built in adaptor it can't detect any wireless networks...
I then plug in my backup usb netgear wireless adaptor and I can pick up and connect to both of my home wireless networks...
I am going overseas in a few weeks and need to know that my notebook is going to work/be reliable and not have any more problems - if anyone can help me with this it would be much appreciated.
    John.

A further update for you all...
Okay - went back to the Toshiba service centre - the first dead hard disk was replaced by them - but the REAL problem not spotted - it looks like my laptop came out of the Toshiba factory with a faulty motherboard - this in turn has now fried the second hard drive - and now - with a new motherboard and THIRD hard drive it looks like the hardware side of things MIGHT just be solved - but NOW I still have the problem that because the motherboard has been screwed since day one (I only bought this laptop in November 2010) it has basically stuffed/corrupted all of my backups - so now the service centre is charging me 60 dollars to get a set of disks so I can re-image the system myself when I have the chance - and then spend a month putting back all the applications and configuration and data the way I had it after the first few weeks of buying it (at that stage I thought I was good to go and had the perfect new laptop and setup for work...)
So - I'm heading off overseas in a couple of weeks - my 3 year extended warranty from Australia will not be of any use to me where I am going - not covered - but am STILL hopeful that I'll get the rest of the problems sorted - still can't run the toshiba hdd protection software for more than a few days without it dying and having to be reinstalled and the toshiba pc health monitor does not work at all - when I go to install it it doesn't recognize the bios or whatever - and on top of that I'm using third party hard disk monitoring software (because the toshiba stuff doesn't work on this toshiba laptop - but the third party stuff does) - well, anyway - the third party software is telling me the hard disk has reallocated sectors count error - and there is a CAUTION showing all the time - which I guess indicates that there is now a hard drive problem with the third hard disk (?)
Anyway - if ANYONE has had a similar run of bad luck to mine with the A660/O7U - I'd really like to know...
    John.

  • Ac 7260 wireless adaptor

I installed an Intel AC 7260 Wireless adaptor.  It shows that it is installed and enabled, however it wil not connect to the network.  It says that there is no wi-fi3 available.  I know I have the correct dirver installed.  As of now I am using a netgear WNDA3100 ld v2 to connect to the intenet.  This ac 7260 is a brand new card that I would like to get connected.  Please help

    Hi:
I don't believe you can use an Intel wireless card on most models with AMD processors.
What happens on AMD notebooks is the same thing that his happening to you.  Card and drivers install fine, no connection.
If you want to install a dual band wireless AC card, I recommend you get the Broadcom one.

  • USB Wireless adaptor issues

I purchased an Asus USB-N13 wireless adaptor.  I'm running a PowerPC G5, 10.5.8.  I just ran Software update yesterday.
I installed the driver, that software says I'm connected to our wireless network with good strength.
I open Safari or Firefox, and those tell me "I'm not connected to the internet".
The aggravating thing is a guy from work took it home, installed it, and everything worked fine.
In Network Prefs, it sees the USB device, and all looks well.
    Any ideas?

  • USB Wireless Adaptor for eMac

I still have to check them out but I do not believe the eMacs in question have a built in wireless option. I am told they are running OS 10.3 and I was looking for recommendations on adding wireless to about 10 eMacs for a teacher that wants them networked but the classroom does not have any available network ports to even plug in a network switch too. USB wireless adaptor would be good unless I have to use an internal Airport card or something I guess that is fine.

Check out the eMac specifications, for example, here. Depending upon the model, you could install an AirPort or AirPort Extreme card. This is probably the easiest way. See also the KB articles HT1621 and HT3024.
You could per se try USB wireless adapters, but only if appropriate Mac drivers are available (if at all, usually only for Mac OS X 10.3 or higher).
Another solution could be wireless Ethernet bridge devices (also called gaming adapters). These units (such as Belkin F5D7330, D-Link DWL-G810, D-Link DWL-G820, Linksys WET54G, Linksys WGA600N and Netgear WGE111) do not require special drivers and can be used under almost any operating system. Not all models (or versions of a model) offer WPA security. You could connect a wireless Ethernet bridge directly to each computer (the Ethernet port). Alternatively, it ought to be possible to use wired Ethernet (via a switch) between the computers, and then one bridge device as a connection point to an existing wireless network.

  • I need USB wireless adaptor any suggestions?

I am connected to the internet via an ethernet cable, no wireless here. So I cannot use my iPad, can I use  a USB wireless adaptor? what type? any suggestions as all of the USB adaptors on the market seem to be for Windows. I am in Pune India, where can I buy a suitable adaptor?

    christopherfromqld wrote:
I am on a large ethernet network so a little worried about 'opening' it's internet connection, should I be?
Well, a USB wireless adapter would do the same thing as the link I provided. Basically, anyone within about 10 to 15 meters of your computer would be able to access the wireless network.
An Aiport Extreme base station would allow security options to restrict access to a specific devices, require passwords, encryption, etc. If this is a business environment the best thing to do would be to talk to the IT department for an official solution.

  • Trouble installing USB wireless adaptor & Network settings.

We have a 17" iMac flat panel, 1.25 GHz PowerPC G4. We just upgraded the memory to 1 GB. We're running 10.4.11
Dh wants to use his iPod Touch and share the internet connection with our G4. We purchased the following USB wireless adaptor by MAXPower:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Newer%20Technology/MXP802NU2C/
We installed the software, but cannot figure out how to set it up from there.
Never mind that for now. Dh says he sees a second computer in the near future and thinks we need a proper wireless network.
I was going to uninstall the MAXPower software and I can't figure that out either. I found the Uninstall icon, but it is asking me for a password. @@
The thing that concerns me is when I go to System Preferences---> Network, a window pops down saying "Your Network Settings Have Been Changed By Another Application". When I click OK, the window goes up, then immediately comes back down. I can't close the window, or close System Preferences without Force Quitting.
Dh is voting for bagging the MAXPower, getting an Airport Extreme Card and an Airport Extreme Base Station.
I want to fix the glitch in Network.
    Ideas?

    hey there chelap,
had a similar problem w/ an iMac 800 MHz G4. it was caused by me switching a USB printer to an Airport Extreme Base Station 802.11g, from its port on the iMac-- iMac too old, it used 802.11 b. it changed "network settings". try d/c'ing the device & delete the software to see if this eliminates the annoying screen popping off/on.
i'm not familiar w/ this product you're trying to use but, in reading the product page it doesn't create a Wi-Fi network, it lets you use a Mac w/ out a Wi-Fi card to connect to a Wi-Fi network--this product isn't a Wi-Fi router which you need for what it sounds like you're trying to do. i agree w/ Dh about the AE card(can be found fairly lo-$$ on eBay & pretty simple to install), though this device may work once you have established a Wi-Fi network & the AEBS, even an Airport Express will work as a base station to create a Wi-Fi network. also sharing an internet connection isn't quite the same as having a local Wi-Fi network. having a local network provides more options like using the iPod Touch + the Remote app to control iTunes or Front Row(an app) should you run Mac OS X Leopard/Snow Leopard on this &/or a later model Mac(G5 or Intel) as well as stream audio/video, share other kinds of files to the 2nd Mac.
    good luck.

  • Belkin USB wireless adaptor drivers

Does anyone know where I can get a driver for the belkin usb wireless adaptor? The one listed on their website only works with OSX 10.3 and not 10.4 installed on this machine? do apple provide any third party drivers for this problem? The machine is out of its applecare period so I can't ask apple themselves.

    Jon

If Belkin doesn't have a driver compatible with 10.4 you're out of luck. Apple does not provide drivers for third party hardware.
