Is now a good time to purchase an IMAC?

I bought my first mac two years ago, macbook. Words can not express how much I love the laptop and osx in particular ofcourse. Now I want to replace my xp machine(dell dimension 8400) I simply want to get rid of windows in my life. I have gone over the applications I use and I simply have no need for windows and when I do, ofcourse bootcamp or parallel is there.
This post is more about should I bite the bullet on getting a new imac, its of course going to be pricey, I am estimating 2400 for 3ghz, 1tb, wireless mouse and keyboard, 2gb ram. That's after I sell the free ipod touch im getting and the $100 printer.
What does the current gen have missing? I don't plan on purchasing another imac for five years or so. My current dell xp machine is still fast to me(4ghz, 1gb ram) so I cant wait to see how fast this imac is. Since we do not know what the future i understand its a hard question but im sure there are some folks here who may not think its a good idea. The only problem I see with the imacs this gen are display issues, and I'll just keep returning them until its fixed.
I should also mention I have been looking at the mac mini also and because I use dual monitors with my dell I could use one of those monitors. However it seems the mac mini life is very short and its just about half the price compared to the imac, so it really does not look like a good deal to get one.

The iMac displays I've seen at the local Apple Store look great to me, especially the 24-inch model. I was playing HD movie trailers on it full screen, and it looked amazing.
I can't think of anything that is lacking, based on current technology. If you're into gaming, I suppose it can always have better graphics chips... I'm sure toward the end of the "five years," you'll want more than the 4GB max for RAM. And there will probably be a quad-core version of the Intel CPU by then, and some type of faster wireless, and faster mid-range graphics chips from ATI or NVIDIA. But for what's available now, it is up-to-date as far as I can see.
You can even use your current display as an extended desktop on the iMac, through the mini-DVI port. You'll need a $19 adapter for either DVI or VGA (whichever type your display uses).
Because Apple does not offer a mid-range monitorless desktop between the Mac mini and Mac Pro, I bought the smallest size iMac available (17-inch white 2.0 GHz Core 2 Duo model) as a refurb. I plugged in my excellent existing external display as the main display with the iMac off to the right as the secondary display. I did not consider the Mac mini because I wanted to use two displays and it also has the inferior Intel graphics. Even though my iMac is actually a 2006 model, it's a great performer; I have no complaints.

Is it a Good time to purchase an Apple Cinema Display?

I am about to get the Apple Cinema Display and I would like to know if it is a good time to purchase it. Will the display drop price soon? And if it does, do I have any protection from Apple?
The other thing is that I am from Canada and does anyone know why there is a big difference between the US$ and CAN$?
The 20" display for educational in US is $699 and in CAN is $899.

Welcome to the boards. First off the price USD is $799, at this point it does not seem like apple will be dropping the price of the Cinema Displays any time soon, last price drop occured only about 6 months ago. So now is about the best deal your going to get.
As far as any extened coverage for an ACD goes is that if you buy an apple computer AND an Apple Cinema Display at the same time you can get an Apple Care Protection plan for the computer and the display will be covered as well if you buy the the Display at a later date, the extended warranty will not cover the display. WMA files are 'window media audio' files, which is a Microsoft format. If you want to add them to your iTunes library on your Mac then you will need to convert them into a compatible format first. If you still have your windows machine then iTunes for Windows can convert them from WMA to MP3 format : https://discussions.apple.com/message/24158701#24158701
Or try a search for, for example, 'convert wma to mp3' to find programs to convert them.

Good time to purchase

Ok, I am not usually the type to look for reinforcement for a purchase but figured I'd ask. I got a good deal on a new, 1st generation 15" unibody 2.66ghz MBP for myself and a 13" 2.26ghz MBP for my wife. Both considerably discounted from current selling prices even if you shop the discount e-vendors. I know there are likely new chips coming out soon but I wanted the 512mb video in the 2.66 and my wife just wanted a new laptop to replace her old 12" Powerbook.
Is there any overbearing reason why either of these was not a good purchase (I still have not cracked the seal on the boxes so I can return without penalty, and I want to get our old ones up on Ebay before I commit 100%).

Based on what you've told us, no. I expect you'll both be very happy with them, as long as your wife doesn't envy your bigger screen. If she does, I recommend giving it to her. Size does matter, and you need a happy, satisfied wife more than you need 512MB of VRAM.

Good time to buy an iMac?

I currently own a 2006 Macbook Pro and I really like the new 27" iMacs but with Intel releasing new processors yesterday and USB 3.0 gaining ground, I'm wondering if I should wait for an iMac refresh later in the year. Do you think that those upgrades are coming for the iMac and are they substantial enough to warrant holding out for one? Thanks!

The Intel processor announcements I noticed were for chips running slower and some with less cores that are designed to run on laptops, not the iMac desktops. As for USB 3: there are also other new fiber optic-based transfer protocols under development that could see the light of day this year but no one knows if and when they'll arrive until the announcements. I would not wait if you need a new computer now. You may wait a year and see little change while missing the pleasure of using a powerful computer today.
If you need more features or power, consider (the next iteration of?) the Mac Pro as that will surely be an improvement on the iMac.

I have excluded some items from backing up, but since the Airport Time Capsule is full, I can't even begin to back up the MacBook Air.

On your Mac.......
Open Finder > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
Click on the Time Capsule icon, then click Edit in the smaller window that appears
Click on the Disks tab at the top of the window
Click Erase Disk
On the next window that appears, select the Quick Erase option, then click Erase
The operation will only take a few minutes.
Now you are ready to start new backups of both Macs. Back up one Mac first, then back up the other. Do not try to back up both Macs as the same time.

This sorted it for me:
Backup your iPhone to iCloud (I believe backing up to iTunes will work too). Now go to "Settings --> General --> Reset --> Erase All Content and Settings" to completely restore your iPhone to factory settings. Assuming you've backed up to iCloud, you'll be asked when setting up your iPhone if you want to restore from an iCloud backup. Choose that option and once your iPhone has restored itself from your backup, this annoying problem will finally be gone! (was for me anyway).
To restore from an iTunes backup, connect your iPhone to your computer, load iTunes. Click the File menu and select Devices > Restore from Back up.

Try Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings on your device.
Note you may have to re-enter stored Wi-Fi passwords after using this feature.

Would it be a good time to buy the iphone 3G?
How long before the next one or an updated one comes out?
faster wifi or processor chip?... more memory?.. better camera?
Basically anything thats not upgradeable though firmware updates.

Something new will always be in the works. The best time to buy any technology is when 1) you need it 2) you can afford it and 3) the existing feature set meets your needs at a price that seems reasonable to you. If you always wait for the next new thing, you'll wait forever. Conversely, if you can't stand the thought that if you buy now you'll be upset when the next model comes out, whenever that is, then wait.
If you do choose to buy now, buy with the full understanding that eventually there will be something newer, flashier, shinier, neater, etc., but that won't stop your current product from doing exactly what it did when you bought it and being just as snazzy as you thought it was when you purchased.

I have created one purchase order.Now i want to do goods receipt for that purchase order.I know that throught migo and movt type 101, i can do this.But guys i have one doubt over here.Can i do the goods receipt for purchase order by Transaction code MB31(Goods Receipt for Order).
When in Transaction code mb31 i put the purchase order number, system gave me the error,"order 44000000298 not found or not permitted for goods movement".Message no. c6001.
So guys what do you think in this matter?is it possible to do goods receipt for purchase order by mb31.If yes than how to resolve this error.

In this case, if I enter itemcategory "U" into PO I can post GR and GI at the same time I do PGI. but you know if I use "U" which mean I can't enter the net price as normal because this is a "stock transfer".

EVERY SINGLE TIME: i purchase something and it i enter my password right? afterwards, stupid itunes keeps on popping the screen up again for me to enter my password. i would enter it over ten time and it would pop up again. i cant even access my account.

Hi, this is possibly a pain, as I experienced the same situation. Hope you have better results. It is fixable though.... You have keychain issues, of that I'm very sure, but the problem is fixing them. For me, it took hours on the phone, with multiple Apple agents to fix.Sadly, they don't all have the same expertise. Try to get your call elevated to a superior for best results and be persistent.

I couldn't find the edit button on my original post so I am posting an update here.
I have gone through more apps and have had good luck on all but one more. And it's not that the app doesn't work, I am talking about the Yahoo Weather app, It works fine, but when you swipe between cities the screen lags a bit and it sometimes doesn't move between pages the way it should. On iOS 7.1.2 it was smooth as butter but on iOS 8.0, not so much. I will post a note in the app store to let them know. I really like the Yahoo app better than the new stock app.
I have been going through my games and they all work fine. Angry Birds (Original and Stella), Canabalt, Minecraft, Bejeweled 2, Silly Walks, PopWords, Doodle Jump, Deep Green all seem to work just fine.
Starbucks app works as it should.
I will stop back again next week after I have had the weekend to play with it in detail and post my thoughts again.

As the titile says. I purchased an iMac on the 4th October and added pages, keynote and numbers to the purchase. Now I find out if I didn't purchase them I would have them free anyway (and to make it more annoying I haven't even used the apps yet so have had no use out of them until this point). I know Apple gave refunds for the same situation on iOS iWorks in September.

There is an up-to-date program for those who purchased new Macs after October 1.
