Is Nvidia GeForce FX 5200 adequate?

Before I break the seal and open the box, a question:
The system requirements listed on the Aperture materials list several nvidia GeForce graphics cards, but not the 5200 card I have installed in my G5. Will aperture operate with the 5200 card? Or should I abandon my plan to use the program and return it unopened to the retailer?

Supported? No.
Can be made to work? Yes.
Do a Google. You can modify a part of the Aperture executable to remove the limitation that stops you using the FX5200. You will have to do it after each update.
Adequate? Depends on your patience.
Its very slightly buggy in that the loupe doesnt always completely fill, though that seems far better under 1.1.2.
Its not especially fast and your milage will depend on what camera you use it with. I have a D70 and mainly use for sorts/selects with up to 500 photos in a project folder and for my usage, it works fine.
The thumbnail browser works fine and a pic will 'load' to full rez in 4-5 secs (if not already cached) on my G5 Powermac 1.8 single.

  • Fade-off with MSI T-128 (nVidia geForce FX 5200) PCI card

    Hi
I'm totally fade-off with nVidia GeForce FX 5200 (MSI -T128) graphics PCI card. I've tried all options found on different forums and also with latest driver for the card both from MSI and nVidia. But non of these are able to solve my problem.
Even though, I have installed the latest driver for the card form nVidia or MSI, my system gives BSOD (infinite loop) on XP and system hang on Ubuntu/Linux. Request you to please help me out for this problem. Its dam sure something wrong in the card driver or BIOS settings as its occurring with any OS.
This is my last ray of hope, with a expection that some MSI people will help me out, else I'll have to throw the f**king card to bin. Sorry being unprofessional, but it seems that I have wasted my money banking on the brand MSI/nVidia.
    PC Configuration:
    1. Asus K8N motherboard (nVidia chipset, NO on-board graphics)
    2. MSI T-128 (nVidia GeForce FX 5200) PCI graphics card
    3. Windows XP SP3/ Ubuntu 9.04
    4. 512 MB DDR1 RAM
    5. 320GB, 7200 rpm Seagate ATA HDD
    6. AMD Athlon XP 2800+
Again request the nVidia people plz plz plz .. help me.
Note that, When I'm booting with safe mode in XP, the PC DOES NOT hangs.
    Thank you in advance.

Its followed by "Sorry being unprofessional". But when my hard earning money draining, its obvious. Anyway, Do you have answer to my request ? Or only guiding me for proper language ? If you have ans plz give me too.

  • Dual monitors on nvidia geforce fx 5200

    Hi,
I'm using a nvidia geforce fx 5200 card that has vga out, dvi out, and svideo out. I have one crt hooked into the vga, the main monitor, and I have a dvi to vga converter, to enable a second vga, crt monitor. When I try to use the nvidia-settings, and enable twinview,  and I get this message:
    "failed to set metamode (1) 'CRT00: nvidia-auto-select @1024x768 + 1024+0, DFP-0: 1024x768 @1024x768 +0+0' (Mode 2048x768, id: 50) on X screen 0."
    any ideas? thanks.

Hm, Not working, just display on the true vga monitor. Are you using a dvi to vga connector as well? Heres my log output, I couldn't make too much of it, I tried to switch the CRT-1 to DFP-0 which didn't seem to do the trick either.

  • PowerPC G5, NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200, problems with monitor

I have 1.6GHz PowerPC G5 (M9020LL/A) with NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 & HP LP1965 monitor. Monitor does not wake up after going to sleep using system preferences or being turned off using the button. All I get is light blue screen changing to black and so on and on. Anyone? Thx a lot!

Thx for tips. Booting OK in Safe, reaching Desktop.
    1. While in Safe, if both G5 & HP are on "never turn off" I get some dark grey screen after couple of minutes and I can "wake" G5 with mouse/keyboard. If I turn off HP on a button, nothing helps.
    2. Still in Safe: as soon as I set G5 to sleep after x mins an HP loses signal, nothing helps. I can wake G5 from keyboard, coming to light blue pic and thats it.
    3. Rebooting - nothing helps. As soon as I cut the power to monitor or it goes to sleep, same thing happens. Black screen turning to light blue and so on. I have tried to press Power on G5, put it to sleep, than wake it by pressing Power again. I am stuck on a light blue screen for a minute, then all of a sudden I get the signal back.
Only thing that "works" is to have Screen saver on x mins and Monitor on "Never".

  • NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 with Apple 23" Cinema Display?

    Hi,
I would like to know if my graphic card in my Sony Vaio PC is compatible with a 23" Apple display ? I would like to run a splitter with one feed going to my Mac Pro and the other to my PC utilizing the same Apple LCD monitor.
I have a NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 with 128Mb, this card has a PCI connection, but I am not sure if my card could support the Apple 23" Cinema Display that I recently purchased to replace the 19" Envison LCD that I'm currently using ?
Does anyone have an idea ?
Is there a list somewhere giving compatble graphic card ?
The nvidia site does not say a word about cinema display !
    Thanks in advance
    Regards,
    John

Apple doesn't make compatibility information known
    for non-Apple systems.
    But yes, they do.
Here is the list of tested video cards for the ACDs:

I highly recommend the Quadro cards; they are fantastic.

  • NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 compatible with 23" display ?

    Hi,
I would like to know if my graphic card is compatible with a 23" apple display ?
I have a NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 with 128Mo, this card has a PCI connexion,
but I am not sure if my card could support a cinema display at 1900x1200 ?
Does anyone have an idea ?
Is there a list somewhere giving compatble graphic card ?
The nvidia site does not say a word about cinema display !
    Thanks for the answers,
    Ben

Apple doesn't make compatibility information known
    for non-Apple systems.
    But yes, they do.
Here is the list of tested video cards for the ACDs:

I highly recommend the Quadro cards; they are fantastic.

  • Nvidia GeForce4 Titanium vs. nVidia GeForce FX 5200

I purchased a new dual G5 with an nVidia GeForce FX5200 with 64MB of VRAM. I had in my old G4 a Nvidia GeForce4 Titanium card with 128MB of VRAM. First, can I install the old Titanium card in my G5? If so, is it a better card than the card that the G5 has now? Any suggestions will be deeply appreciated.

The card in the G5 is compatible with the new Tiger Core Image, the one in your G4 is not.

  • DDR NVidia GeForce FX 5200 graphicis card & 30" Mac HD monitor

I am a new Mac user, having had Dell desktops all my life. Recently, my Dell W1700 monitor/tv crapped out, and (of course) it is just out of warranty.
This prompted me to by a Mac Book Pro with a 30" HD monitor (to work with the PC also).
    MY QUESTION:
Like many in here, I want to use the Mac HD monitor with the Mac Book Pro as well as the Dell PC (8300 series). I suspect that the cable connections may not be compatible (pins appear to have a different configuration) though the Dell LCD TV/monitor did use DVI cable in conjunction with a separate green audio cable.
I've already read and reviewed how to set up the laptop with the lid closed while utilizing the HD monitor. Now I need to troubleshoot the HD/PC connections.
    Help!
PS-is the spell check feature in this forum messed up or what? I've never had so many idiotic "suggestions".

    Hi-
    Welcome to Discussions!
The 30" Apple Cinema Display requires a computer with a dual link DVI equipped graphics card. It can connect to single link DVI, but without a dual link, the 30" ACD will not operate at optimal resolution (2550x1600). The 30" ACD is equipped with a dual link DVI-D connector.
I believe your 5200 has a single link DVI-I (2048x1536 max resolution), which will allow coupling with a DVI-I or DVI-D connector.
    30" ACD supported resolutions:
    2560 x 1600 pixels (optimum resolution)
    2048 x 1280
    1920 x 1200
    1280 x 800
    1024 x 640

  • PowerMac G5 DP 1.8GHz/GeForce FX 5200 - DELL 2407WFP 24" LCD compatibility?

    Hi all,
I am running Mac OS 10.3.9 (up-to-date) and would like to ask if there's anyone using and/or knowing about the following compatibility:
PowerMac G5 dual processor 1.8GHz with NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 (64MB VRAM)
    and
DELL UltraSharp 2407WFP 24-inch Widescreen Flat panel LCD Monitor
I have the PDF spec sheet for this DELL monitor, but unfortunately couldn't find accurate info about this particular and possible scenario.
    Related info:
Size (Viewable Image Screen): 24 inches (24-inch viewable image size)
    Optimal Resolution: 1920 x 1200 at 60Hz
Connector Type: Analog, DVI-D (Digital) with HDCP
Other Connectors/Features: S-Video, Composite, Component, Integrated 9-in-2 media card reader/slots, Universal Serial Bus (USB) 2.0 Ports, Kensington security port
Hope that someone can help. I am currently testing a DELL UltraSharp 2007WFP 20-inch Widescreen Flat Panel LCD Monitor and it works flawlessly, but I am interested in paying a little bit more and buy the 24".
    Thank you all in advance,

    Mike: thanks for posting!
As far as I understand, DELL LCD monitors and Apple PowerMac computers (with their standard 64MB graphic cards) don't have any compatibility issues, though none of the forums/threads/movies you point are 2407WFP related.
Meanwhile, I have emailed DELL and trusting their reply, they assure all of their current line LCD monitors use the latest revision, probably REV A03, as described in this recent Apple discussion:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=3541462&#3541462
I will definitely give the DELL UltraSharp 2407WFP 24-inch Widescreen Flat panel LCD Monitor a try and will return to this thread with some conclusive feedback.
Again, thank you for taking your time reading/guiding me.

  • MS-6340M /GeForce FX 5200 problem??? Help!

I just bought the MS-6340 motherboard with Athlon 1.1 gig processor.  I also bought the new Gainward 660/Pro nVidia GeForce FX 5200 128MB Video Card.  THe Card is a 8X AGP and the motherboard has a 4X AGP slot.
My problem is that my computer completely freezes up all the time with that card in.  I've put older cards in and the PC runs fine.  I've currently have Windows XP, but I started out installing WIndows ME and 2000, and it locked up on them all.  I have the latest 44.03 nVidia drivers installed.  I also have the latest 4.7 BIOS installed for the motherboard.
Has anybody had a similar problem?  Any help would be appreciated.

i have a GeForce FX 5200 and i have just a heatsink, no fan, and i overclock QUITE a bit, i bought off newegg.com, a universal video card fan, that works on 5200's, and now i can overclock past fx5200 ULTRA speeds!!!!!! its awesome!!! this fan is a vantec, and also comes with thermal paste, check it out, for $6.05, its awesome!  click here - http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=35-110-102&depa=0
or, go with the copper one, little bit more $$ though - http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=35-110-103&depa=0
that definentally should be sufficient cooling
hope this solves your prob like it did mine!!!

  • GeForce FX 5200 Video Card

    Hi everyone!
I'm finding conflicting info concerning the graphics card requirement for FCE HD.
I have an original 20 inch iMac with a G5 Power PC processor and a GeForce FX 5200 Video Card, running Panther on the internal HD and Tiger on an external FW drive.
Will FCE HD work with the GeForce FX 5200 Video Card?
    Many thanks,

    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

    Hi(Bonjour)!
On Apple Support specification for original G5 20" iMac :
    http://support.apple.com/specs/imac/iMac_G5.html
    We can see:
"NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 Ultra with 64MB DDR SDRAM with AGP 8X support"
On Final Cut Express HD specifications page:
    http://www.apple.com/finalcutexpress/specs.html
    We can see:
"An AGP or PCI Express graphics card compatible with Quartz Extreme or an Intel GMA integrated graphics processor in MacBook or Mac mini"
Quartz Extreme needs at least:spec says:
"Quartz Extreme functionality is supported by the following video GPUs: NVIDIA GeForce2 MX and later, or any AGP-based ATI RADEON GPU. A minimum of 16MB VRAM is required."
FCE HD3.5 application must be installed on your system disk to run without problem, and needs Mac OS X 10.4.6 (Tiger) to run.
So, yes, your iMac can run FCE HD 3.5 .
I Currently use FCE HD 3.0 on my other computer: an iMac G4 17"

  • GeForce FX 5200 (Fix or Not a Concern)

I am just wondering if Apple Inc. is going to do something about the GeForce FX 5200 graphics cards not displaying the semi-transparent menu bar? Apparently this is still not displayed correctly after 10.5.1 even though this was clearly an advertised Leopard feature.
Apple Inc., are you working on a update for us NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 owners, or are we forced to have less than the mentioned features advertised for Leopard?

    Richard, I'm right with you.
It's an advertised feature, and a fundamental part of Leopard's new UI, and nowhere did Apple say prior to the release of Leopard what the required graphics cards are.
Further, I do have a problem with the fact that the GeForce FX 5200 came on my iMac G5, which cost me $3000 in January of 2005, while computers (e.g. some iBooks, for instance) that cost half that, that were also in some cases even replaced before the iMac G5's debut, support this feature.
And another thing: let's assume for the sake of argument that the menu bar hinges on support for what has the highest minimum requirements: Quartz GL. We all know the GeForce FX fits the requirements for Core Image. But in fact, it fits the requirements for Quartz GL also, since when it was known as Quartz 2D Extreme in Tiger (though in disabled form), as you'll find all over the Web, was supported on Radeon 9600 or better or the GeForce FX or better.
So the fact that Quartz GL is not supported on this card in Leopard seems rather odd. Keep in mind the initial support doc said all Core Image capable cards will do the effect. The new support doc specifically excludes the GFX 5200; it "may" not have the necessary OpenGL capabilities. What is "may"?
I think the whole thing has been mishandled.
