Is OAF dead in 2/3 years?

I've been studying OAF for the last year on my own, thinking many more modules would be migrated to OAF.
But I do not know if OAF will be replaced by other tools ( Peoplesoft tools ? ) in the medium future with the project FUSION.
Has anyone news about this?
I would not like to become an expert of something is going to be obsolete in 2/3 years.
I have learned rumours (only rumours, from inside Oracle) that OAF will not be the development-tool of choice, and would like to confirm that.

As highlighted in various forums at Oracle Openworld conference this year, the Fusion applications stack will be based on an enhanced JDeveloper/OracleADF combination. If you've downloaded and played with our JDeveloper 10.1.3 Early Access 1 release from OTN, you can see some of the progress we've made on the way to some of these enhancements across the product. For Fusion, significant additional enhancements are underway that will appear after the 10.1.3 production version of JDeveloper/ADF.
As you know, OAF is already an extension of ADF Business Components (which was previously marketed under the name "BC4J"). In particular, the combination of ADF technologies that the Fusion apps teams will use will be JSF plus ADF Faces components for the user interface, ADF data binding, and ADF Business Components. We are working on implementing scores of new features to enhance the various layers of these parts of the JDeveloper/OracleADF combination to meet the combined requirements of all Oracle Applications teams. In some cases, these features are "internalizing and generalizing" features that originally were implemented as OAF extensions on top of ADF to begin with. In some cases, these are brand new features grown out of clever ideas contributed by the Peoplesoft and JD Edwards teams. In every case, the productivity enhancements gained by these features will of course benefit JDeveloper/ADF customers at large as well.
We are also working on utilities to assist in converting existing pages designed using ADF UIX into JSF+ADFFaces.
The name "Fusion" itself underscores the fact that we are fusing the best developer productivity ideas from Oracle e-Business Suite's OAFramework, Peopletools, and JD Edwards toolsets. A large number of enhancements we're working on involve making even more things declarative and metadata driven and customizable to meet the requirements of these teams.

  • HP dv6-1030us webcam now dead after almost 5 years of laptop usage

I have HP Pavilion dv6-1030us Entertainment PC currently in Windows 8.1. I upgraded it's notebook factory OS (Vista) for almost 4 times now since I got this 5 years ago. I never had issues in webcam drivers everytime I switch from another Os to another (even the beta ones) until now. There is no any imaging devices installed in Device Manager. Also there is no webcam to be selected in Skype's option. Even in Windows 8 webcam app.  I had some issues on the camera before it's totally dead now. Captured video is blinking, webcam will be automatically turned off then I'll on it again (on Skype calls which the webcam is I mainly use) And since there no webcam driver on my product support page http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategoryos=4063&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&sw_lang=&product=38605...  (expect for the MediaSmart Webcam Software) I know this is no problem in my webcam driver. I red some few forum post about the same issue and some says it's Bad wiring or something since the notebook probably 5 years old now. Obviously my warranty is already ended so all I got is a help here in forums. Please if someone knows wehre to download the fricking driver, please told me where. I need help ASAP
PS: Also the AC port is already loosed so sometimes power fails (plugged in, no battery) and notebook will be accidentally offed . If this issue may contribute (theoretically) to webcam's hardware status now, please told me so
    PPS: Sorry for bad English

    Hi @PrinceKickster ,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have looked into your issue of updating your HP Pavilion dv6-1030us Notebook and the Webcam not being seen in Imaging devices. Here is a document on fixing a Webcam after changing the OS. Here is a link to the Cyberlink Youcam software for Windows 8.
You should be able to click the action button and scan for new hardware  in your device manager.
Have you taken apart the Notebook at all?
    Hope this helps you.
    Thanks.

  • DEAD BATTERIES -AFTER 1 YEAR- TOO EXPENSIVE- ANY SOLUTIONS??

I've had my powerbook just over one year (conveniently just enough to not be covered by "applecare" ) and the battery life has rappidly deteriorated over the last few months, and IS NOW COMPLETELY DEAD!!
Ive noticed alot of other people have this same problem but....
I can't afford to fork out another £90 just to get my powerbook functioning as it should do.
I feel that this is ridiculously poor manufacturing for such an expensive item to be faulty just after a year. I'm begining to trust apple less and less, and I dread phoning up the helpline, as last time something went wrong, they were as much help as hitting your head against a wall and informed me that I had to pay £30 in order to ask them a question!!
What kind of corporate scam are APPLE trying to pull here?/??
Does anyone know if there is any way of getting my battery replaced for free, under statutory rights? I feel there deffinatly should be.....

    Hi there,
    Thanks for the usefull links.
Im affraid I'm still having major problems with my powerbook!
I've been using it with the battery removed on power addapter and a couple of times when Ive let it sleep, I have returned to it a couple of hours later and the fans are wiring away like crazy, the whole thing is realy hot and doesnt respond to wake up. The only thing I can do is take out the power supply and let it cool down.
Then I remembered that the same overheating problem had occurred for the first time just before the battery started playing up. I discovered the PB overheated and unresponsive, and in a few days (maybe even hours) the battery was dead, first reading something like: (1%) , then just: ( x ) in the meter on the toolbar.
Also, I've been reading about re-setting the PMU as you suggested, and it looks like a good idea, but for a couple of things. It says that it "will permanently remove a RAM disk, if present, and all of its contents."
Now Im not too clued up about these things, as you may have guessed, but this sounds bad! Im now a bit confused as to what the RAM disk is for, as I originaly thought it helped proccessing or retriving info from the hard disc or something! But this suggests that it has important things stored on it...(?)
Would you mind filling me in on what exactly this would mean for my files stored on my PB (if anything)?
Another thing that occurred to me (which may not mean anything but...) I noticed in the artical it also said that resetting the PMU also resets the date and time (to 00:00 (GMT), 01 Jan 1970 for computers with Mac OS X). Since my battery died, each time I turn on the computer I am indeed taken strangly back to 1st January 1970 (which would be quite fun if my computer worked- ha ha..) I assumed this was just because there was no battery, so when the power went, the clock data resetted (like in a VCR or something).
But cauld this be anything to do with the PMU? And if the PMU is to blame cauld it be causing the overheating issue aswell?
MOst importantly, is it safe to reset it, or will I loose valuable files?
If you cauld answer any these questions it would be very helpful! Im sorry that ive gone off on a bit of a rant, I just need my computer to work!
Thanks very much for your help,
    james.

  • Will AppleCare cover dead batteries after 2+ years

I'm just curious. I had a ThinkPad way back, and even w/ a three warranty, the battery was only covered for a year.
I just got off the phone w/ tech support regarding AppleCare and was a little hesitant w/ battery coverage, but ended up saying that the battery is covered.
So let's say two years down the road, the battery only has about 50% juice, and I end up w/ sub 1hr, can I get it replaced under warranty?

AppleCare will not extend the warranty on the battery, but I can't find what the normal warranty is. Here's what the AppleCare Terms and Conditions says under non-covered items:
"(ix) Consummable parts, such as batteries, except in respect of battery coverage under APP for iPod or unless failure has occurred due to a defect in materials and workmanship;"
The entire Terms and Conditions ducument can be obtained here:

  • Z61t Battery is dead after 1 1/2 year

Hi guys, is any of you have problem with Z61t battery being dead after 1.5 year? At 1 year mark, my extended battery only lasted 1 hr of use instead of 3 hrs when I first bought it. Now it totally dead, so when I unplug the AC adapter, it shut off.  This already happened to my friend with the same model.  I didn't pay attention when he told me until now.  I couldn't believe this is happening b/c two of my previous laptops(different brands) were working fine.  I sure won't buy another lenovo product again in the future.  This is so disappointing.....

Welcome to the wonderful world of these sub par batteries now.
I have a T61 that is slightly more that a year old, and the battery is rated as Fair (can only hold 78% of it's original charge) - with only 3 cycles.
Very dissapointing considering my T41's battery is more that 3 years old and is rated as good and can hold 105% of it's original charge - go figure.
However, what seems to be key here is what power supply you use. If you use the wrong one, your battery life will be compromised.
Go to eBay and buy another genuine battery, but make sure the cycle count is low and make sure you are using the correct power supply.
Presently with an X201 and a T500/T410 combo
I've owned everything from a 701c up to present which equal a ton of ThinkPads

  • Satellite L670 - Hard Disk Dead after 8 months only

    Hi,
this morning I had to retunr my laptop due to bad hard disk problem. After 8 months, it's dead already.
The positive points are: I am still under warranty and second the toshiba software hilighted me on time, allowing me to back up my data before the crash. Tks Toshiba for this tool, very usefull.
The question is, how can a hard disk die that quick after just fews months ?
Bad luck or bad use ? I am wondering.
I wish to have a feedback from those who owns same model, L670 (windows 7), to understand if this problem is commun or if I was unluckily concerned.
Also, if there are possible solutions to avoid HD stress in the daily use ? Like for example, reduce writing on it (back up of blu-ray using AnyDvD HD ON hd, then cut&paste to external HD), or to not connect too often external hard disk to avoid electricity surcharge if any ?
In future, will I have to perform chkdsk more often ? Defrag ? If yes, at which frequency ?
This is my 3rd laptop dying, Sony VAIO = mothercard dead after 1.2 years, Fujitsu Amilo xi = explosed after 3 years, and now Toshiba HD after 8 months.
From 900EUR up to 1600EUR, I do not see a significative resistance of one of those models, Sony was the badest ever in terms of video card longevity and compatibility (games unplayable after 2 months, no driver update), keyboard "painting" was a mess with deterioration after fews months compared to Fujitsu and Toshiba (no pb). Toshiba L670 more recent, was the best in terms of game compatibility.
What to do ? Stop buying laptop or use it only fews hours a day with a PC on top ?
For time beeing I can't afford to have a PC + a laptop as I am unemployed, surviving with 10EUR/day,
time to find a job again.
Despite this situation, I managed to buy new Zelman notebook cooler for my Toshiba at around 40/50EUR, but, it didn't help apparently.
Tks for feedback about L670 duration life, and particulary HD problem + best use to protect it.
    Guillaume

    You're not the only one.
I bought an L670 in September last year. It was strictly for home use as replacement for a desktop PC, so it was never moved.
Just after a few weeks things started to go wrong: boot fails, programs crashing, Windows 7 crashing...
It's almost 7 months now since purchase and I'm writing this message on the very same notebook with 'Hard Disk Sentinel' running in the background, reporting more bad sectors every day. It tells me that hard disk health is now down to only 9% and that it has an estimated 14 days to live.
Since the notebook is technically still running fine, I don't think I can have the HDD replaced under warranty or am I wrong? Does the HDD have to cease working alltogether before I can have it replaced under warranty?

  • GTX680 Twin Frozr 3 dead fan

So this card is like one and a half years old.  The back fan over the chip has stopped working, never made any noise or gave indication that it was about to go dead.
Ive contacted my manufacturer  (AVA Direct) and they want me to RMA the card through you, which (no offense) I want to avoid at all costs because it can take ages to RMA through MSI.
So im essentially left with three options.  RMA if and be out a card for a month, or get that GELID Icy Pro aftermarket cooler and install that, which I can only assume voids the warranty.
I watched a video on youtube with a guy who did this exact thing with the exact card, and in the end he said that the fan was dead on the aftermarket as well, and that it must be a PCB board issue, as the fans both worked directly plugging them into the mobo.
This leaves me with a third option perhaps, and that would be unplugging the fan connectors, getting a fan connecter extension, and sticking them into my mobo smart fan slots.  This is the cheapest route and the fastest.  Im curious what kind of extension I need (assume its a 4 pin extension) I haven't removed the actual card fan plug yet as it looks difficult to do (not a lot of room) and would rather wait to hear from someone who knows these cards before doing it.
Also the aftermarket cooler doesn't look difficult at all to do, as much as I want to spend $60 buying what is essentially the same cooler I bought with this card stock.
I also have had some reoccurring driver crashes, did a driver wipe and fresh install.  Seems to occur after sleep mode or when idle after a heavy load.  Not sure if its just NVidia drivers doing to sht or the card...ran a memory test on the VRAM and it was fine, and my PSU is a Corsair HX750 which is a good one.
So for anyone familiar what would be my best route here?  Do I roll the dice on a full RMA and hope I don't get a refurbished with issues and be without a card for possibly a month +?  Do I try the smart fan plug on my mobo?  Or should I just swap out the heatsink (I will say a say dead after 1.5 years doesn't instill confidence in this heatsink)

Quote from: Nichrome on 15-February-14, 00:15:59
I'd RMA the card, no matter how long would it take. Because you can apply better TIM and you're done (doesn't void warranty as long as you don't damage any part, but contact MSI just to make sure), but other day another fan might just die on you and it might be just a day after warranty expires.
Im a bit confused, you suggest to just RMA the card, which tbh over one dead fan seems a bit excessive, regardless its an option.  But I don't know your reasoning.  "Because you can apply better TIM"  im not sure what TIM is.
Id really loathe losing my card for a month or more just over a dead fan, which is why im trying to think of alternatives here.  However I want this issue fixed by summer since its cold and my temps will most likely creep into danger zone once my room gets 10-15 degrees warmer.

  • Dead laptop - bad wifi card or ???

    Hi all,
Oddball question: I have a Lenovo t410i that is completely dead. About two years ago, I dropped a bit of water on the keyboard, and something got fried so that the keys wouldn't type correctly anymore. When I went to replace the keyboard, I accidentally ripped one of the cables from the Intel Wifi Card (model 622anhmw). When this happened, the laptop would not power on. After two years, I am finally sitting down to try and fix this, but before I go buy a new wifi card (the cable was ripped out with the solder connection), I wanted to ask if anyone out there knew whether simply replacing the wifi card will actually solve the problem.
Seems like it's a pretty strange thing for the laptop to route all power through this tiny card, but I've seen stranger things.
    Thanks!

My WAG is a blown fuse (if there are any in that laptop) or something else that got yanked on and shorted when the cable was ripped out.
You'll need one of the members, mods, or gurus her on the forums with repair experience to offer advice.  Sorry, it's above my pay grade.

  • Is DVD Dead?

The college classes I teach use FCP7.  I'm looking to migrate that to either FCPX or Premiere, and I'm trying to decide which direction to go in. One huge factor is that Apple has dropped DVDSP, so how is an X user supposed to author a DVD?  Premiere has Encore.  DVDs are important to my students. They put their reels on them -- in their world, with their markets, people view reels on DVD.
So I wanted to gather your opinions.  Is DVD dead?  In four years will DVDs be around? Should the lack of DVD authoring software for FCPX even be a factor?
Thanks for offering your two cents.

    Thanks everybody for your input.
Hollywood still releases movies on DVDs.
For now.  They used to release movies on Laser Disk too.  So DVDs will disappear -- just a question of when.
If not...look for Toast or other DVD authoring software.
I tried making a DVD in Toast. Worst compression I've ever seen.  Motion has an echo.
there's no reason why you can't keep working in DVDSP
Because it's unavailable. My students can't buy it.
why do you want to migrate?
I can make the argument to my students that I'm not teaching you software, I teaching you editing. But why have to make that argument and teach them on some current software that's purchasable by them.

  • Dust under screen and Dead Pixels on new MBP...

I got a new Macbook and, aside from the fact that it was missing the P key, there was a new manufacturing defect I hadn't seen before, (must be from the new process), wherein dust was trapped behind the glass screen.
The Apple Store was great about letting me exchanging it, no problem. Then I realized that I needed firewire so I returned the new and unopened Macbook replacement to upgrade to a MacBook Pro, but now I'm disheartened, because the new MacBook Pro, though a thing of beauty, has a bright dead pixel in the top middle screen, as well as a dimmer dead pixel 2 inches to the left of that one.
I just bought the computer a few hours ago.
Do you think I have a shot at them replacing it tomorrow? I hate to think of staring at this, (bright) dead pixel for three years, (not to mention the other dimmer dead pixel).
    Thanks!

Yep, I too did a custom order wtih everything I could get on it. And sad to say, like many iphones I have gotten, it too had dust under the display. It also was about 10 different yellow flecks under the glass. Customer service gave me no fuss really and I have sent it off and am awaiting a new one now. However, it is frustrating that this makes it out of the factory in the first place. Quality control should have seen this, especially when I am looking at buying 2 more shortly. It is my first actual mac purchase aside from the numerous other accories I have bought for PC use. However, with vista being the garbage that it is, I am having mac withdrawls now. ***** when you use something that works and then revert back.
I also noticed the battery lid was a little loose on the laptop. Hopefully this is a isolated thing as well. It does take about another week and a half from what I am told to get the replacement. Kinda ***** to have to wait, but I am sure it will be worth it.

  • Relationship between datablocks

    Gurus,
I've been working with OAF for the past few years. I'm currently attempting some changes to a custom ERP form developed by a guy who has left the company.
The objective was to add several columns to the canvas and related datablock. I've already altered the underlying table to include the new columns being referenced. I'm able to compile the new form on the server and data is writing properly to to underlying table.
My issue is that for each of the new values for the new columns, there are also 15 optional values which can be written to another table. These other values have been defined within a seperate datablock and appear on the right side of the canvas. However, when I tab through the newly define fields, the values aren't being written properly to the columns of this second table. Only the value of the last newly defined column is able to be written.
Any idea of where I should look to resolve this inconsistency?
I've updated the Program units to accomodate the new columns for the "main" datablock.

There are 3 relationship properties for master detail relationship
    1. Casecading : In this property If Master block record is deleted then child record will be delete automatically with master.
    2. Isolated: I will allow to delete to parent block records while child records exit in the block.
    3. Non-Isolated: If child exist then master record can not be deleted.
    Exapmple:
    Master Block:
    Master Record 1
    Child Block:
    Child Record 1.
    Child Record 2.
    1. If Master Record 1 is deleted then child record 1 and 2 will be deleted with this record automatically.
    2. While Child Record 1 and 2 exist property will allow to delete master Record.
    3. It will not allow to delete Master record 1 if child record 1 or 2 exist.

  • Is it possible to mirror from a G5 to a Cinema display?

There was a recent post here that addresses this, but my (likely very stupid) question is--isn't it possible to use a mini vga to vga and a dvi to vga adapter to connect your iMac to a Cinema display? Or does the dvi to vga adapter only go one way?
I'm assuming from the thread mentioned above that this is essentially impossible without a lot of finagling. The website for converters linked shows a VGA to DVI-A converter, but I'm assuming DVI-A is different from DVI?
I was originally told by an Apple store salesperson--who, in retrospect, clearly had no clue what he was talking about--that the Cinema display would work with my iMac, no problem.
Unfortunately... I bought a second-hand one off ebay, so now I'm stuck with a monitor that I can't even check the display on (which will probably make reselling it on ebay difficult.) So I'm trying to figure out once and for all if this is impossible and I should just give up, cut my losses, and get a VGA display instead.
I went into the Apple store today and the ditzy girl I spoke with informed me that "the people in the back" said that it wasn't at all possible to mirror my G5 onto a Cinema display. She clearly didn't know anything beyond what size ipods they carry (if even that), so I'm hoping someone a little more knowledgeable (or maybe even someone who's tried it?) can clarify for me, because the extent of my hardware-related expertise is 'how to install RAM.'
Thanks in advance for any help!
(And lesson learned: never count on Apple store salespeople for any information--ever.)

Thanks for your response Donna! Further research has found me some more clear-cut answers.
I've read a few success stories of people using the VGAtor to convert their iMac's output from VGA to DVI but I'm apprehensive since it costs $300, and there's no mention of a return policy on their website that I can find. I tried emailing them about compatibility/return policy so I guess we'll see. (The success stories I speak of are in the forum for Screen Spanning Doctor, but the forum's been dead for almost a year now.)
Gefen's VGA to DVI Scaler seems to be better supported, but that's up to $330.
I don't want to use a TV, because I'm a graphic designer so I need higher resolution than any TV in my price range can offer.
But I think I will probably be going with a VGA display though just to save myself the headache. Even if I ended up losing $300 in reselling this display to get one, it would be no different than spending $300 just for a converter--I'm not convinced that the Cinema displays are worth it, when I could get something similar for under $400. If I had wanted to spend $1000 on this upgrade I would've just sold my G5 for a new 24" one.
I agree it would've been much smarter if they had just made their own DVI adapter, since they DO exist (and enabled screen spanning in the G5, at that.) Or, even more radical... just added a VGA input to their displays--there are plenty of monitors out there with both, so obviously it's possible. If they had actually made the displays compatible with like 90% of their pre-existing systems they could have sold exponentially more. It would have been far more profitable--I love Apple computers, but I'm sure I'm not the only one choosing to buy another brand of monitor rather than fork out thousands to upgrade the display of a perfectly good computer.
Well, forgive my rambling. In case someone else is curious, I'll wait to see if I get a response to my email, then update and close this.
Unfortunately now I've gotta lug it on the metro to get it tested, since taking it to the Apple store seems to be my only option right now.

tried on a different mac. The same problem exists.
If that is the case, its extremely unlikely you have a bad USB cable on the seagate, rather as I mentioned earlier a bad SATA bridge card.
If the Seagate 1TB USB external wont open on either Mac and youve verified same (try a diff. USB cable if you have one however this is nearly never the case),....then to get the data off that HD (unless it is dead which is also extremely unlikely),......then you would need to extract the HD from its case and insert same into either a HD dock or USB HD enclosure.
8 out of 10  seemingly dead inopperable 1-3+ year old external HD are perfectly fine, rather the cheap 50 cent SATA bridge card fries and dies (alas)
reply back if you need help in extracting same.
