    I updated to OS X Mavericks and now trying to run Logic Pro X on a MacBook Pro mid-2009, using an M-Audio Axiom 49 and an M-Audio Fast Track Pro... Logic keeps telling me that Mac OS X MIDI Services are not available... How do I solve this problem?

    I just checked to see if the update to OS X Yosemite 10.10.1 solved any of the issues outlined in my previous post, and to my dismay, nothing has changed -- all of the previous problems persist.
    My iMac (8) -- it's renamed itself eight times since the recent troubleshoot with the Apple tech rep -- shows up as a shared device in Finder on my MacBook Pro, but when I click on it, I cannot establish a connection using "Connect As".  So I've attempted to connect using the menu "Go/Connect to Server...", using both (alternately) the iMac's name and IP address, to no avail.  I get a message which reads: "There was a problem connecting to the server 'Peter's iMac (8)'. This server may not exist or it is unavailable at this time.  Check the server name or IP address, check your network connection, and then try again."
    Here's what I know:
    The server -- Peter's iMac (8) does exist;
    The server -- Peter's iMac (8) is available at this time;
    The server name -- Peter's iMac (8) -- is correct, as specified in the system sharing preferences;
    The server IP address is correct, as specified in the system sharing preferences;
    The network connection is active when I attempt to connect.
    I'm convinced the problems stem directly from the OS X Yosemite update.  None of this was ever remotely an issue in the previous OS X's -- any of them.  This is maddening!  What can be done?  Apple?? Anyone???

    I'm running logic pro 8.0.2 on Leopard 10.5.8. I've recorded an evening of live music, then cut the recording into songs using one audio file folder ad multiple song files. When working on an individual song, I can't access the sampler.  I get the message "nothing to display" or "no region or audio file selected"  After much research on the web, I believe this is a permanent bug.  Does anyone have a good work-around for this type of work.  We record live 16T band rehearsals constantly and would love to be able to break individual songs out of the large file and be able to use the sampler.  Thanks in advance for your ideas!  Cheers.

    Another thing - if I copy one of the tracks to another track, then the sample editor works on the copied track.  I don't want to have to copy 16 tracks to new tracks to be able to use the sample editor on a project.  Thanks again.

    Well, how have to determined no signal is being recieved to your mac?
    Have you got something that shows the actual signal? Or have you just been trying to control a VST? What software are you using by the way?
    I personnally went with a AKAI MPK25, because it's made already mapped for logic & ableton etc, so it just makes things incredibly easy.
    I would suggest you return it if you can as a dead unit & perhaps look at something else a bit easier?
    Otherwise, if you just want to get this working we can have a look a bit deeper.
    And driver? OS X driver?

  • Would a 13" Macbook Pro (2.4GHz) be able to efficiently run Logic Pro?

    I'm thinking of buying a Macbook Pro, but I'm really tight on money. Would the lowest model of Macbook Pro still be able to efficiently run Logic Pro?

    It will run just fine.

  • Can I run logic pro x on iMac 2.8Ghz core 2 duo, 4GB RAM?

    I currently run Logic Pro 9 (9.1.8) on my iMac (early 2008 model as above) but really like the look of pro x features, will it run on my iMac?
    Thanks
    Tim

    Thanks for that info but my iMac (according to Crucial memory finder) is limited to 4GB
    My iMac is 2008 model, 2.8GHz core 2 duo. Do you know if this will support 8GB ram?
    Thanks

    Only with a whole lot of effort and instability.  As the new Minis have
    hardware (HD4000, USB 3.0, etc.) that is totally unsupported in old OSes.
    The only option would be to see if it would work by installing in a virtual machine
    running 10.6.8.  I'm sure there will be some performance hit but whether it would
    be enough to be unusable is the question.

  • I am considering buying a new Macbook Pro 13" non-retina either the 2.5 GHz or the 2.9 GHz version to run Logic Pro X. My question is whether there is a noticeable difference in how well Logic Pro X works with the 2.9 GHz model vs the 2.5 GHz one.

    Is there a noticeable performance improvement with running Logic Pro X on a 2.9 GHz model vs the 2.5 GHz one and yes I would have 8GB of RAM installed on the 2.5 GHz one if I were to buy it. Thanks!

    My buying advice - the 'entry-level' new 15" MacBook Pro. Take a look at the specs. It's a wonderful machine - and you can upgrade RAM and HD to fit your needs without voiding the warranty. I don't know of any apps that I currently run that can't take advantage of the quad-core, and almost everything is 64-bit now.
    I'd used the money you saved from not buying an out-dated 17" and put it into software. If you're transitioning from Windows that can add up quickly (which isn't to say you can't run your Windows apps using Boot Camp or a VM like Parallels.
    Just my opinion - but if I could buy anything I wanted right now, I'd go with one of the upgraded 15" non-Retina MacBook Pros.

    I am having problems to run logic pro 9, there is an error display that says I need to set bonjour and that this app serial number has been used by another red user,  could anybody guide me? actually, my computer can't start  since three days ago, could it be the same problem?

    Logic is the APPlication (program, app) that you are having the problem with.
    Logic Pro can take advantage of other computers on your local (home or work) network to help it do "heavy lifting" data chores by using Bonjour and a feature called Nodes.   It seems that Logic is attempting to find and connect to another machine on your network.
    Do you have Logic installed on another computer there?  That may be the source of the confilict.
    You might want to post this question in the Logic Pro Community.
    Be sure to indicate the version of Logic Pro that you are using.  I'm sure the folks there can help you out.

  • What's the best Mac to run Logic Pro 9 and above with no issues

    What's the best Mac to run Logic Pro 9 and above with no issues?

    Any Mac that can happily run OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and Logic Pro 9.1.5.....
    Note: Newer Macs cannot run Snow Leopard because SL doesn't provide hardware support for the newer hardware found in these newer Macs....
    Next best combo for newer Macs is Mavericks 10.9.5 and Logic Pro 9.1.8... but it is nowhere near as efficient a combo as the previous one mentioned...

    ok thanks, that's what I tought,looks like apple machines are only good for two - three years, the software developers are ahead of the hardware to a certain point, love macs but this is forcing us to buy new macs just to keep  up with development. There was a time it was the opposite.
    By the time we get up on new stuff it's time to change again. Gotta be rich to deal with macs ...LOL

  • Can you run Logic Pro 8 and Logic Pro X on the same machine?

    Hello all!
    Congratulations to us on the release of the new Logic Pro!
    I am still running Logic Pro 8 (and was waiting for X to come out since I knew it wasn't too far off) but am concerned over the loss of 32-bit plug-ins with Logic Pro X (the wrapping of my old VST plug-ins alone hurts!).  I've heard that installing Logic Pro X doesn't in any way gimp Logic Pro 9's usage, but can someone confirm whether or not Logic Pro X and Logic Pro 8 can operate in harmony on the same Mac?
    As a bonus, is there any reason to believe that Apple would disable earlier versions of Logic Pro (such as version 8) from running on Mavericks?
    I am planning my Logic Pro and Mac OS migrations!  Thanks!!

  • I am running Logic Pro 9.1.7, and I use a Roland RD700GX keyboard to input midi data into Logic.  How do I set up Logic to record the Roland's own internal Grand Piano sounds into Logic, while retaining the ability to make midi edits? By Eggie

    I am running Logic Pro 9.1.7 on a mid-2011 Intel iMac running OS10.7.4. I use a Roland RD700GX as my midi input keyboard.  How can I set up Logic to record The RD700GX's own internal Grand Piano sounds, while retaining the ability to take advantage of Logic 9's midi editing capabilities. I am a relative newcomer to Logic, and I haven't been able to find an answer in The Logic 9 User Manual. A step by step procedure would be much appreciated. Thank you.

    Create a new External Midi Track, set the MIDI port to the one being connected to teh RD700. Now,create a new Software Instrument track. Select the external instrument plug-in. Set the MIDI destination and the audio input inside the Plug-in. Now, you can record the MIDI notes and hear the sound of the RD700. Once you've editied, you can bounce the track.

  • Setting up an external boot drive to only use when running Logic Pro.

    Since Logic Pro must be installed on the boot drive and it takes a lot of space I am considering an external boot drive. I would only use this drive when running Logic Pro and at other times it would not be connected. It is possible to set up a Firewire 800 drive in this manner and choose which drive to boot from whenever it is connected? I’m not interested in running Windows on this computer, but I would like the option to connect a second Firewire drive to occasionally backup the Logic boot drive.
    Am I better off doing a clean install of the OS on this external drive?

    If you hold down [option] at start up it will show all possible Boot volumes and allow you to select the one you want.
    Yes, I'd do a clean OSX install and then put Logic Pro on it.

  • Someone please help!! Can't install logic pro 9 on my new macbook pro 2012

    Hi guys,
    ive been scrolling the internet for days and actually can't find the solution to my next problem:
    I bought the new macbook pro 15" running mac osx 10.7.4.
    now i want to install logic 9 on this computer. Before this i've already been using logic on two computers, my Mac Pro and my older macbook pro (2008).
    I installed logic pro 9 as in upgrade to Logic pro 8.
    Ive tried installing logic pro 8 on the new laptop but it wont let me, says the new macbookpro doesnt support this program anymore.
    Now ive tried installing logic 9 on the new macbook pro and it wont allow me. It wont accept my product liscence, I've tried it a hundred times, but it just wont let me.
    Im not planning on using the older laptop anymore, should i uninstall logic from it? If so... how come i can't find the location of the liscence?
    really hope hearing from u guys soon....
    AJ

    Sounds like the same issue as this to me: https://discussions.apple.com/message/18640824#18640824
    The license says you can only install on one laptop and one desktop machine. Try uninstalling it from the old laptop and see if that fixes it.
