Is Only 2 hours Streaming Battery Limit?

Brand-new MB Air, followed recommended battery calibration. few days of heavy use migrating and setting up, all plugged in. But last few nights, with full battery capacity (read 7hrs+), tried streaming tv and netflix, and each time, battery shut down after 2 hours. Is streaming or watching video a bigger drain, and is that all I should expect?

Here is my quick test of the 10.2 Flash beta playing this 1080p video from YouTube.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XSGBVzeBUbk
The MBAir has 100% battery, full screen brightness, WIFI and Bluetooth both on, and only Outlook and Activity Monitor running in the background.
*Flash 10.1*
Flash player CPU usage:
Maximum 71%
Minimum: 58%
Battery time left after 3 mins: 2:28 hr*
*Flash 10.2 beta*
Maximum 27%
Minimum: 13%
Battery time left after 3 mins: 3:58 hr*
I'm very impressed with the result as I like to multitask, and the reduced CPU usage is very welcome since the processor in the MBAir is the weakest part of the system.
Going to carry on using 10.2 beta unless there are major issues. Hopefully Adobe will release the final version soon with ever better improvements.
I suggest you give it a try, you can always go back to 10.1 if you don't like it.
*I've not fully calibrated the battery, so the time might not be very precise. But you can still see a very big improvement between 10.1 and 10.2 beta.

  • Retina MBP 2.6 only 3 hours of battery life?

My 1 week old Retina MBP 2.6 is only getting 3 hours max on battery with light surfing. When watching videos i also only get 3 hours tops. Bluetooth is off, keyboard light off, screen backlighting 50%, gfxCardstatus set to integrated only (also confirmed in energy saving settings). I run 10.7.4, all updates installed.
Is this normal? Isn´t it supposed to get at least 5 hours when browsing the web (no youtube)? Should i return it and get the 2.3 instead for more battery life?
    Thanks in advance.

There have been reports of problems with various models experiencing low battery life after installing Mountain Lion but as you're still using Lion, you should be getting at least 7 hours on battery for light web surfing (not a lot of YouTube videos, etc.).
My suggestion would be to take the machine into your local Apple Store and let them deal with the problem. Before that you can download the free "Battery Health" from the App Store which lets you see your battery health in real-time, as opposed to always having to go into your System Report. There's no reason that you should be getting less than 7+ hours of battery life.

  • Only 3 hours on battery doing nothing

    hi all.
i am getting ready to take the 2009 MBP which I have had for a year and a half in to the genius bar and finally measured battery life at 3 hours doing absolutely nothing. This means I am down to about 2 or 2 1/2 hours when working on it.
i haven't had the time to address this before now (new to mac and have been busy converting over) and I am wondering if anyone has any good arguments to use with the mac genius if they say this is OK or dependent upon what you are doing while you are on the computer etc, etc.
    TIA

    oops. i have applecare...

  • MBP 15'' 2011 battery lasts only 3 hours!

    Hi
I bought MBP 2011 15 inch last week and received it on Monday.
    My configs are
    Model Name:          MacBook Pro
      Model Identifier:          MacBookPro8,2
      Processor Name:          Intel Core i7
      Processor Speed:          2.2 GHz
      Number of Processors:          1
      Total Number of Cores:          4
L2 Cache (per Core):          256 KB
      L3 Cache:          6 MB
      Memory:          4 GB
and I also upgraded to high resolution.
So far, I'm pretty much enjoying my new MBP
But I have one main concern with my new laptop's battery time.
The battry time is really really short!
When I first turned it on, it took 3 hours to drain the battery. (starting from 98% or so)
And I did calibration thing so that the battery runs more "efficiently"
Of course, I didn't expect that calibration would make the battery last longer, but no matter what,
I only get 3 hours of battery life and I'm not even doing something that would drain my battery fast.
I just do simple web surfing and word documenting on about 30-40% brightness (or even lower sometimes)
And I get only 3 hours of bettery time.
So is this because my MBP has four i7 cores or or what?
Previous MBP 15'' models seem to last at least around 5 hrs doing exactly same thing.
And considering that I have been using my MBP only for 5 days or so, I'm worried that the battery life will become even less!
    Maybe like 2 hrs?
Is this a particular issue with my laptop, that I can return and exchange to new model or get fixed without fees?
Or is it just built this way that all the MBP 2011 15'' models have this kind of short battery life?

OMG turning off the Bluetooth just gave me like extra 3 hours of battey time! (6 hrs total)
I didn't even know it was turned on in the first place because I never touched it.
I guess bluetooth is on as a default setting.
Thank you so much for advice.
I feel so stupid, but please be understanding since it's actually my first MacBook.
But I'm really glad to find out that I was wasting battery with bluetooth on, and now I can get better battery time.
    Thanks once again!

  • After Bell Update - My battery lasts only 8 hours

    Hello
I have a Nokia N8. As there was Symbian Anna on it, I have optimized my battery consumption. It was running at least 2-3 days.
Now after upgrading to Anna it lasts only 8 hours. This is really not much.
What can I do? I have no Apps like Skype or WhatsApp running. Also I disabled all autostart apps with SafeManager.
    Thank you

    Hello
I think I found the solution.
I am patricipant of Nokia Beta Labs. So I have a lot of Beta Apps installed.
The last update for Store QML client (http://betalabs.nokia.com/apps/store-qml-client?req=true) helped a lot.
But the major Battery consumer was the new Nokia Maps Suite 2.0 (http://betalabs.nokia.com/apps/nokia-maps-suite?req=true).
If you have installed this, than you have to install Pulse as well!! (http://betalabs.nokia.com/apps/nokia-pulse).
In Pulse, there are two options, wich you have to disable both.
Then Symbian Belle goes even longer than Anna! =)
Here is some ohter discussion about the same topic: http://betalabs.nokia.com/apps/nokia-maps-suite/bugreport/43877/complete-battery-drain-overnight
    This helped alot.
    Thank you all.

  • Macbook pro mid 2011 battery lasting only 3 hours

How can I get my brand new Macbook pro mid 2011 battery to last longer, now it's lasting only 3 hours.

Do not believe the advertised specs from any manufacturer regarding battery life.  In the real world expect about 60% to 70% of those figures.  Battery life is influenced by many factors,  Among these are display brightness, the number and type of applications you are running, if the optical drive is used, external devices that may be attached etc.
3 hours seems a bit low but not necessarily out of line.  Go to SYSTEM PROFILER>POWER and see what it says by 'Condition'.  If it is other than 'normal' you may have battery issues (Explanations then can be found in FINDER>HELP).
    Ciao.

  • I have an iPhone 4s just eight months, it is normal that the battery lasts only 3 hours? please help me thank you very much.

I have an iPhone 4s just eight months, it is normal that the battery lasts only 3 hours? please help me thank you very much.

Three hours if definitely NOT normal. I get at least 48 hours out my 2 year old iPhone 4S' battery with light usage. Did you do the iOS 7 update on the phone it self (OTA) or through iTunes? In my experience most problems are caused by the OTA updates. For this reason I ALWAYS update using iTunes on my computer.
I would suggest restoring your phone using iTunes on your computer and setting it us as a new phone. This downloads a fresh copy of iOS 7.1 from Apple and installs it on your phone. Just make sure that you transfer all purchased items (apps, music, etc.) as well as photos to your computer before restoring as the restore will completely wipe your phone. Do not restore from a back-up. Yes, you will loose all your data on the phone but restoring a back-up can restore the problem you are currently having back to your phone. Once your phone has been restored you can manually sync back your apps and music.
Before restoring you can also check to see that battery-killers like Location Services, Background App Refresh, etc are only turned on for the apps that really need it. I recently read and article that said that the Facebook app can be a real battery killer. If you have this app installed turn of location services and background app refresh for this app and see if that helps. Also go to Settings / General / Restrictions / Location Services / System Services and turn off all the options in that menu. Your phone does not need any of those to function. Constantly using your phone's GPS is a huge battery killer. I only have Location Services enabled for Find my iPhone and Background App Refresh is turned off completely.
    I hope this helps.

  • On battery my Satellite A100-233 runs only 1 hour

    Hi
I would like to know if it is normal that the battery lasts only 1 hour. All I do is either browse on internet or use word doc. or power point presentation. I can't watch a dvd without using power supply due to the battery. I would also like to know which battery normally comes with Satellite A100-233.

    Hi
Thanks a lot for the information as I thought that there was something wrong with the battery as the sales-person had told me that it lasts 3h 30 to 4h!
My Satellite A100-233 belongs to the PSAA8E series. In fact the model number is PSAA8E-05J026G3. But I don't know what the battery part number is. What I found written on the battery were 2 numbers: 6027B0010101 and 64279026ASF. There was also: IEC S/N:6SA300J8T D48XW BATT 6 CELL with recycle Rev 3.00 SPS:V000061150 Date Code:J6054
Where can I search to find out whether the part number is PA3399U-2BRS or PA3399U-2BAS?
The batteries you suggested, if I go to the shop and tell him to give me one of them will be enough or it's better I take the laptop with me?
    PA3400U-1BRS High Capacity Battery Pack (Li-Ion, 12 Cell, 8600mAh)
    PA3478U-1BRS Extended Capacity Battery Pack (Li-Ion, 6000mAh, 9 Cell)
    Thanks for you help

  • Why does my iPhone 5 battery runs dead after only 5 hours in standby?

My brand new iPhone 5 runds completely dead after only 5 hours standby.
I might have done 2 or 3 calls, I switched off all the apps that are running in the background.
Wifi and bluetooth are on, and should stay on.
My old iPhone4 could work almost 2 days without recharging....
I have looked at different blogs and websites and set most of those tips and tricks, but without success... my phone is 1 day old and already synced....
Is there something big that I'm overlooking?

    http://osxdaily.com/2013/09/19/ios-7-battery-life-fix/
also recalibrate the battery, let if fully drain to where your phone shuts off and then fully charge it without using it.

  • My PB runbs always too hot: it burn my lap. & battery runs only 1 hour.

    Hi.
As the subject, my PB runs too hot.
I found sombody asked the same question and downloaded software to measure temprature.
    Battery: 35 C
    Power Supply Bottomside: 55.8
    Processor Bottomside: 62.5
    Processor/Controller Bottomside: 64
    SmartDisk Fujitsu .... 48
    Trackpad: 40
I'm not running any games. don't know why so hot.
And my battery last shorter than before: I was surprised it lasted only 1 hour or so last time I used without AC.
    Anybody any suggestion?

    Hi Shiho,
It sounds like your Powerbook is stuck in turbo mode Have a look at the energy saver tab in System Preferences. Make sure that the performance settings are set to automatic. This will make sure that your processor scales to your performance needs and isn't at 100% the entire time. Doing so would cause it to heat up significantly and as a result drain the battery much faster.
Additionally, make sure that there is sufficient air flow at the bottom of the powerbook. If necessary, prop the back up by placing a book under it, or have a look at purchasing a Grffin iCurve or iLap to elevate the laptop. The other temperatures you posted are normal and within spec, and the processor temps look normal for one which is under a bit of a load.
    Good luck!

Hi i received the nano 7th gen for Christmas and I only seem to get 5 hours of battery life. I use the Bluetooth and Nike app so I expect more drain on the battery.  But I got more time out of running with my iPhone. Does this sound normal? I thought I should get close to 30 hrs of just play time alone.
ALso, my wife got me the Belkin armband to run with the nano but I sweat through the band resulting in the back of the iPod to get wet. Surely this is not good. Anyone have a recommendation for an armband that keeps moisture away from the pod?

iPod Nano are small and they don't use Wi-Fi access so you get less power time on a Nano. As for iPhone, since you got apps, Wi-Fi + 3G access, and everything else, they give you more time so you can keep using. Nanos are ment to listen to music, listen to radio, view your photos, watch videos (without Wi-Fi) and since you got BlueTooth on the nano, it counts as wireless access so it drains your battery faster.

  • I can only get about 1 1/2 hours of battery power out of my ipod 5g

I have had my ipod 5g for 6 months and in those 6 months I have only been able to get 1 and a half hours of battery power out of it once or twice when it's not in my car on charge. My old ipod which was a 500 song 4g (I think) was able to last 7 hours. How can I get my new ipod to have the same amount of battery life.

The problem is not with the Xcode project folder hierarchy. Your problem is a flaw in the Mac version of SDL 1.2. When you add image files to an Xcode project, Xcode places them in the Resources folder of your application bundle. But the Mac version of SDL 1.2 sets the working directory to the directory containing the application bundle so your game can't find the image files.
There are two ways to solve the problem. The manual way is to go into your game's app bundle and move the image files from the Resources folder to the directory containing the app bundle. Select your app, right-click, and choose Show Package Contents to access your game's app bundle. The better way is to change the working directory to the app bundle's Resources folder. To change the working directory, open the SDLMain.m file and modify the setupWorkingDirectory: method. The following code sets the working directory to the app bundle's Resources folder:
    NSString *resourcePath = [[NSBundle mainBundle] resourcePath];
    [[NSFileManager defaultManager] changeCurrentDirectoryPath:resourcePath];
SDL 2 fixes a lot of annoyances with setting up SDL on OS X. You should look into it.

  • New MPB - only 2 hours battery?

I only got this just before Chritmas, I rand it down to reserve straight away and have done so at least once a fortnight since.
I've just done it now, and only had 2 hours of battery power before it alarmed.
    Is that really right?
    Thanks

This is the most common cause of poor battery life, assuming your battery is in good shape. Launch Utilities > Activity Monitor > CPU tab, set the pop-up menu to Active Processes, click on the CPU column to sort, and see if anything is using a high amount of CPU capacity.
