Is Oracle 9.2.0.1.0 compatible with Solaris 2.9

The release notes for every 9i version only mentions 2.6-2.8. Are there any known issues with 2.9? Is there documentation for a specific 2.9 installation? Thanks.

Thanks for the response.
I've looked at most of the docs and release notes for 9i on Solaris. 2.8 is the latest version mentioned. You only see 2.9 mentioned in conjunction with 10i. Of course, this doesn't mean it won't work. Can anyone else confirm? Thanks again.

Hi,
Are CVS 1.11.21 and PVCS 6.8.10 compatible with solaris 5.10 Sparc Unix server.
Thanks

... haven't a clue.
You've asked a software question in a hardware forum.
The question is beyond the scope of these forums.
You may need to try somewhere else, perhaps somewhere that is
more focussed on the software or the OS you hope to use with it.
I tried a quick Google search on each, and found:
http://ximbiot.com/cvs/manual/cvs-1.11.21/cvs.html
http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=649671&messageID=3823547
I didn't bother to go beyond the first Google page of results from each search.

• Is Oracle 8.1.5.0(Client) compatible with windows 2000 professional ??

Server is 8.1.7 and client is 8.1.5
DSN is giving a problem.
so i believe is win2k compatible with 8.1.5?
ur comments are welcomed.

My guess would be that since 8.1.5 predates Windows 2000, it's not certified on that platform. If you have the installation guide that comes with your 8.1.5 CD, the installation guide will have definitive information. I don't recall at the moment where old Oracle documentation goes to die.

• Is Oracle 8.1.7 DB server compatible with Oracle 9i 9.1.0.3 AS ?

Is this Oracle 9iAS version 9.1.0.3 is compatable with backend Oracle 8.1.7 Database...

Hello,
please search the Installations guides of the AS.
There is an information about this.
If I remember right, it is compatible. But you have to upgrade the Net Service of the 8.1.7 DB to an 9i Net Service. There is information about howto upgrade this Net Service, too.

• Oracle 10.2.0.3.0 compatible with IDM 7.1???

Right now we use Oracle 10.2.0.2.0 to store IDM 7.1 configuration info. We are planning to upgrade Oracle to 10.2.0.3.0. Do you know if there are any problem with that? I'm trying to look on Sun's website to see if this is okay or not. I suspect there will not be any problem but I want to ask first before we do the upgrade. Can you let me know please? Thanks.

I got answer for this issue already. Thanks.

We are guessing that the program that you call Oracle_XA is the name you
gave to a TMS, built with a buildtms command. Are we correct? (Is it
listed in the GROUPS section, or the SERVERS section?)
In any case, Oracle_XA is not a Tuxedo-supplied executable, so it is
either a TMS, or one of your application servers.
Normally, there would not be a process called Oracle_XA. This is the
name used to identify the Oracle RM, but people usually call their TMSs
TMS_ORA, or something else with the name TMS in it.
You will have to find out how this Oracle_XA program was built, and
rebuild it for the new release.
The particular error message you are getting is because tperrno was
changed from a global variable to a macro/function in 7.1.

Neo,
You cannot copy any server executable (including a TMS) from one release
of
Tuxedo to another. This is the cause of your problem.
You need to rebuild a TMS for the new version of Tuxedo, using the buildtms
command. You will need to rebuild all your application servers too.
I hope that helps.

Peter.

• Is Solaris 10 reallly binary compatible with Solaris 8?

I have to migrate a binary code from Solaris 8 (x86) to solaris 10(x86).
Sun quarantees backward compatibility but I could not succeed yet.
I only have the binaries. System is composed of several binaries communicating
each other over network and loopback device.
The application opens randomly in one of three states:
1. Process A could not connect to display process
2. Process B could not connect to display process
3. All processes connect each other and application works nice.
Of course application has more than 2 processes.
I did a truss to Process A and B and found out that Process A reads a file and write to
scoket but somewhere in the file it stop writing and doe snot do anything.
Process B connects to process C but then stops there.
But sometimes they work as if they are expected.
When application runs on solaris 8 no problem at all.
What could be the reason? Here is some more details.
Application uses open windows. I have installed OWA to Solaris 10.
Thanks in advance
Mehmet Ersan TOPALOĞLU

We have found that the problem is due to tcp_fusion.
disabling tcp_fusion worked like a charm.
add the following line to /etc/system
set ip:do_tcp_fusion = 0

• Suncluster 3.0 binary Not Compatible with Solaris 8

I am not sure if anyone experienced the same problem. But I downloaded the latest Suncluster 3.0 binary from http://wwws.sun.com/software/cluster/get.html
Once extracted there is a file that saids "SOLARIS9ONLY". But I took a chance and tried installing it on Solaris 8 anyways. There is a great deal of problems once it finished installing. Solaris 8 experiences serious "no dump services" and other filesystem problems. Possibly previous patches such as 110648-25 will fix this, but this will obviously never install. Since the files in this patch are dated much earlier than the files found in the cluster3.0 patch.
Basically I am coming to the general conclusion that there is no "solaris cluster 3.0 binary" available for solaris 8 to the general public. I know in the past in my previous company we have installed older versions of cluster 3.0 with solaris 8 no problem. Anyone know where we can download older versions that work?

Hi I am facing the same problem as mentioned above. I wanted to know the location from where I can download Sun Cluster 3.0 for Solaris 8.
Can someone point this out asap ?
Thanks

• Is Oracle database Compatible with Times Ten database?

Hello All,
I need to use a temporary database in Oracle for some months.
Later on, I will need to migrate all data to a Times Ten database.
1. My doubt is if Oracle and Times Ten databases are compatible with
each other (specially when having this kind of cases) ?
2. In case the answer is YES to question 1, I would like to know if there are some
restrictions in that compatibility (type of data, any other issue, etc)
Best Regards
Rubén

Ruben,
There are two areas you shoul look into regarding your project: SQL functionality and data types. TimesTen 6.0 supports a subset of the SQL features and data types currently available in the Oracle DB; also, TimesTen supports some native numberic data types that are not available in the Oracle DB.
If your end-game is to use the TimesTen database, then I would start with the TimesTen API and SQL Reference Guide (http://www.oracle.com/technology/documentation/timesten_doc.html)
Use the SQL functionality documented for TimesTen and pay attention to the common data types. For example, VARCHAR is handled differently from VARCHAR2 (where trailing spaces exist), DATE and Timestamp are handled differently, etc. Additionally, keep in mind most numeric values are declared using NUMBER in the Oracle DB, but not in TimesTen.
If you are an existing TimesTen licensed customer, please let us know your support ID(CSI) and we can contact you with more information on our future release plan to address SQL and data types compatibility.
By the way, what's the timeline for your project?

Hi,
Check if the listener process has started or not.
Sometimes you will have to manually start the listener process.
Go to Oracle Home. Run lsnrctl from bin.
Now you may be able to connect.
Good Luck,

See note "Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g Grid Control Certification Checker \[ ID 412431.1 \]". There is a nice application which shows all the compatible combinations. Only 10.2.0.4 is supported with 10GR4 OMS (10.2.x repository version).
