Is Oracle9i Enterprise for Linux packaged right?
I've downloaded Linux9i_Disk1.cpio.gz several times, but when I
try to gunzip it I get an "Unexpected end of file message"-
If this is a problem that only I'm getting, why don't you package
Disk1 and Disk3 in one Disk file, Disk 1 has 412 MB and Disk3 has
82 MB, so together they fit in one CD.
I really think that there's a problem.
Thanks
May I then suggest that you change the directions for extracting the files ?
At http://otn.oracle.com/software/products/oracle9i/htdocs/linuxsoft.html you explicitly state:
Directions to extract the files
1. Run "gunzip <filename>" on all the files.
- Eg.: gunzip Linux9i_Disk1.cpio.gz
2. Extract the cpio archives with the command "cpio -idmv < <filename>"
- Eg.: cpio -idmv <Linux9i_Disk1.cpio
3. Please read Oracle9i Database Release Notes Release 9.0.1 for Linux before installing
Which is obviously incorrect.

Oracle9i files for Linux are corupted!!!!!
So that we may better diagnose DOWNLOAD problems, please provide the following information.
- Server name

I have downloaded those file 5 times until now and every single one of them is corupted.
Anyone has any sugestions.
I use 10 Mbit Fiberoptic link to download files! From reading the other messages in this forum I now know that I'm not alone.
I was lucky enough to get a valid download for 9.2 database for linux but it took
a number of tries. It would be helpful if there could be a number of published
mirror sites to try downloading from. Perhaps this is already implemented
transparently to the end user and it's just luck of the draw that you hit a mirror
that works...
However, I've been having problems downloading ora9ias for about 4 days now.
I'm probably making things worse for others because I've tried to download
disk 1 and 4 at least 3 times and keep getting files that are close to the stated
size but usually a few k bigger or smaller; then I get the invalid gzip file error
message from gunzip. I've tried downloading from IE 5.5, netscape (from both
windows and linux), trying various ways of downloading (holding shift, or right
clicking with save as) and still no luck.
I'll keep trying, but if anyone has any solutions please publish them to this forum.

Oracle9i Lite for Linux download file is broken
I just downloaded
http://download.oracle.com/otn/linux/lite/olite_50200_linux.cpio.gz
and tried to unpack it. It didn't work...
1. It's NOT a gunziped file (it's a plain cpio file)
2. I get a "premature end of file" message from cpio.
Cheers!
mlaHave you verified the size of the file is the same as listed on the download page?
Also, some browsers do unpack the file and leave the extension as .gz -- so you can also try running cpio directly on the downloaded file.

Oracle Announces Oracle9i Database for IBM Linux/390
Hi Folks,
Check out the following URL for the announcement, which went out this morning (March 18, 2002 at 8:00am Eastern).
http://www.oracle.com/corporate/press/index.html?1270638.html
Also, we've had a report that the Oracle9i Database Developer's Release for Linux/390 works on TurboLinux. I'll post distribution version information when I've received it.
BarryFrom reading the other messages in this forum I now know that I'm not alone.
I was lucky enough to get a valid download for 9.2 database for linux but it took
a number of tries. It would be helpful if there could be a number of published

However, I've been having problems downloading ora9ias for about 4 days now.

Oracle9i for Linux/390 and Oracle9i for z/Linux
Hi,
For those who asked about testing on SLES7 and getting a trial copy of SLES7 (since it now costs money), apparently SuSE will furnish trial copies of their distribution. They can be obtained through the SuSE sales rep.
BarryI too have managed to get oracle installed on RedHat 2.4.9-17 kernel (Linux/390). However, I am kinda stuck there - I am completely new to Oracle. Is there some basic literature available on things like how to see the database schema (I ran the "@mkdb" cmd in the installation process, and I guess that created some sample database)? or how to look at the table data? I tried the following:
$ sqlplus /nolog
SQL*Plus: Release ...
(c) Copyright ...
SQL> connect scott/tiger@p901_tcp
Connected
SQL> select * from dba_users
2 .
SQL> help
SP2-0171: HELP not accessible
SQL> quit
Disconnected from Oracle9i Enterprise Edition ...
$
Any pointers? thanx,

Does Oracle 8i for Linux include Oracle Enterprise Manager?
What's the version of the current Oracle 8i for Linux?
Enterprise Edition?

NO, it will not work. You cannot even install since the installer
for Solaris is a Solaris binary and some windows exe also does
not work. I guess somebody has to write a better bootstrap proggy
first...
I wonder why they did it that way...

Hello,
Is there a comprehensive published note from Oracle describing desupport notices for Oracle databases?
Mainly - Oracle9i Enterprise Edition Release 9.2.0.6.0 - 64bit Production, 10g r2 and 11g r1?
If so, can anyone provide the link? I do have Metalink access, so a note id would also be good.
Thanks,

Flash for linux .tar.gz package is still the old 346 version
i trid to upgrade my flash, so i download the .tar.gz package from http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ , after the file was installed, i loaded a flash video in firefox, and found the version is 11.2.202.346. i also downloaded the rpm package, the version is 356.
i think the .tar.gz package should also be updated and i suggest that the version should be containded in the file name so that it is easy to distinguish.11.2.202.346 was and is the last version to be developed for Linux. There won't be any more.

We have Oracle 9i for Linux 9.2.0.1 and we cannot get it to install on any Linux including RedHat 8.0
The OS on which Oracle 9i that we now have is supposed to run on SCO Open Unix 8.0 (with LKP). We failed miserably in installing it on this OS.
Can you help?

Latest flashplayer package for Linux tar.gz appears to be defective.
Yeah, I know those are strong words, so here's the story:
In the past, the flashplayer package for tar.gz, the only version of flashplayer i know that installs in all Linux distros, has always unzipped into a directory containing two files, one of which is a script. You CD to the directory, run the script, and flashplayer installs.
Well, suddenly , there is no directory, and no script, just a single library file named flashplayer.so
The installation instructions have not changed, however:
"Installation instructions for tar.gz
Click the download link to begin installation. A dialog box will appear asking you where to save the file.
Save the .tar.gz file to your desktop and wait for the file to download completely.
Unpackage the file. A directory called install_flash_player_10_linux will be created.
In terminal, navigate to this directory and type ./flashplayer-installer to run the installer. Click Enter. The installer will instruct you to shut down your browser(s).
Once the installation is complete, the plug-in will be installed in your Mozilla browser. To verify, launch Mozilla and choose Help > About Plug-ins from the browser menu."
The directory is mentioned, and so is the script, but those things aren't in the file anymore. So yeah, something's seriously messed up, and has been for weeks. I'm wondering if someone can maybe tell me if there's a place on the web where I can find the previous version.11.2.202.346 was and is the last version to be developed for Linux. There won't be any more.
