Is OS X 10.4 Tiger Full install CD Mac New X code the right thing for me?

Please Help - I have been having problems on some websites and with Safari - I can't afford to buy a new or even a 'new' used Mac with Intel - I have been thinking that upgrading to Tiger will solve my problems, I have committed to buy (on Ebay) but not yet paid for OS X 10.4 and am now worried that I am buying the wrong thing.
The description of what I am buying is Apple eMac OSX 10.4 Tiger Full install CD Mac New XCODE
Rare genuine factory Mac operating system, full installation CD set for Apple OS 10.4 Tiger. Normally Tiger OS 10.4 comes in single DVD format which most older eMacs don't have, so this OSX 10.4 is a rare item in CD format. 16 install CD's plus an XCODE Development tools version 2 on 17 discs.
My eMac specifications are:
Machine Model: eMac
CPU Type: PowerPC G4 (1.1)
Number Of CPUs: 1
CPU Speed: 1.25 GHz
L2 Cache (per CPU): 512 KB
Memory: 768 MB
Bus Speed: 167 MHz
Boot ROM Version: 4.8.2f1
Can anyone please help a damsel (albeit not a very young one) in distress?

No, its only 10 pm at the moment.
OK, that's good news as it is the latter type eMac, though not identical to the latest, it falls into the 'second half' of the eMac series.
The only difference I can see is that your model has a slightly slower graphics card but is the same model card. It seems only a subtle difference.
I believe there is a high probability that those disks would work.
Given they are considerably cheaper £27 or less it is probably worth risking. I'll guess 85% + chance of success.
The retail Tiger disks are just black, but they are quite rare, and overpriced.
Here is a comparison at
http://fastmac.com/osx.php
where they want over £50 (US79.95) so the ebay thing looks good.
You could change web browsers to Opera or Camino but Java versions end at 1.4 in Panther.
10.3 is pretty ancient in internet years, so an OS upgrade will at least keep you with a useful tool, even if not at the cutting edge.
10.20pm see you tomorrow.

The HUD Inspector in Full Screen View seems to position at the right margin of the image as a default(?)  If I toggle the button in the top right of the HUD it 'unlocks' and I can drag it to where I prefer -- at the left margin; (for over a decade) my dock has resided at the right margin so all my slider manipulation over countless editing sessions in Aperture has been ingrained to work at the left margin -- but, the vast majority of the time, the HUD overlaps the image I am editing in this 'unlocked' mode.
Every occasionally I enter Full Screen View and it positions on the left margin *without* superimposition...(!) My great joy is modulated into aggravation, however, should my tracking cursor drift all the way 'out of bounds' -- to call in the hidden pane of adjacent images sequenced in the library... This dramatically shrinks the Full Screen display and re-locks the HUD; if I toggle the switch to re-xpand the image it re-positions at the right margin!!!!  I SOOoooooo wish I knew how to control the default 'locked' margin of the HUD in Full Screen View...

Drag it over to the Left. Then lock it there.

    (1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
    (2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
    (3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
    (4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
    (5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

  • Just got this error message - The installed graphics card does not meet the minimum requirements for Aperture

Help.  I have an iMAC - not even one year old - just got this message - The installed graphics card does not meet the minimum requirements for Aperture.
I have not made any changes to my machine. Help  - I can't get to my images

    Try restarting your system.
If that does not help, we will need to know your Aperture version and MacOS X version. And do you use an external monitor? Then disconnect it before rebooting.

Please click Profile Update and follow the directions for updating your profile. Your computer may be too old to support Aperture however without knowing anything about your iMac it's impossible to say. Also there is an Aperture forum to use and you can look at Aperture's System Requirements below to see if you have the minimum.

  • Installed graphics card does not meet the minimum requirements for AP...

2006 MP with an HD 2600 and a 7300 GT card installed, 8 GB RAM, OS 10.4.11. Tried to install Aperture v1 from CD and got the error message "The installed graphics card does not meet the minimum requirements for Aperture" which disallowed upgrading to v1.5.6 because v1 would not install. So I downloaded and installed the v2 trial and got the same error message.
The release lever on the 7300 card would not work so I left it in slot 1 for now rather than risk breaking the card. That put the HD 2600 card in slot 2, which is not optimum but I do not think it should cause problems.
23" ACD connected to the HD 2600 card.
Ideas? I perused the threads and found similar reports but no solutions.
    TIA
    -Allen Wicks

Answering my own question, I moved the ACD connection to the 7300 card and v2 Aperture installed OK.
Now I guess I need to get precise details on how to eject the 7300 card (mainly better directions than Apple's as to exactly what direction to force the release lever toward). I applied way more force than I am accustomed to and the card did not release.
    Comments appreciated, TIA.

  • HT4007 The installed graphics card does not meet the minimum requirements for Aperture.

The installed graphics card does not meet the minimum requirements for Aperture.  I have not used Aperture in a while and just got this error message.  I tried applying OS updates and reinstalling Aperture and still get the same message.  Does anybody have a solution or work around.

Are you using a non-standard Graphics Cards?  Then this may be the reason.
You may also get this error message, if you accidentally booted into "Safe Boot Mode". Then certain extensions of the Graphics card will be disabled and Aperture cannot be launched.
Reboot and make sure that you this time will boot into regular boot mode.
See: Mac OS X: What is Safe Boot, Safe Mode?
If you are indeed running the system in Safe Mode, the question is, what made this happen? Do you use a wireless mouse and keyboard? There is a strange bug that makes Mac OS X boot into Safe mode, if you turn the wireless devices on, while the system is booting. Make sure they are active, before you boot.
But if you did not boot into Safe Mode, you could try to boot into this mode to reset the graphics card and then boot again into regular mode.

  • Can Tiger be installed on a new MacBook?

I'm working at a school, and we have two template images (one for PPC, one for Intel) with a working installation of 10.4.10, all of the software we use, settings, all of that jazz; we deploy them using NetBoot and Bombich's NetRestore. Normally, we keep purchases of new machines until the summer, so we can make sure that there's a new template that's been tested and working, but we have a special situation now.
The headmaster's old iBook (and I mean OLD — it's a 12" G3) is dying: the AirPort card will stop working, and only popping it out of place and then back in seems to fix it. So he wants to replace it with a new MacBook.
I'm a little worried, though, because I heard a rumor that the updated graphics card in last week's MB revision needs specialized drivers that required a new build of 10.5, and prohibit Tiger functionality.
Is this true? The worst case scenario is that he's our only Leopard user until the summer, and I install and configure his machine by hand, but we'd like to have everybody running off of the same image if possible to make troubleshooting easier.
    Thanks, all.

    Licensing issues aside:
    1) There is no retail version of Tiger for Intel machines. There was never a reason to release a retail version as all Intel machines shipped with Tiger. PPC machines were the only machines for which Tiger would have been an upgrade and therefore a retail version of Tiger was only offered for PPC machines.
    2) There are no OEM Tiger disks that support the new chipset in the new MacBooks. All new MacBooks with the Santa Rosa chipset come with Leopard. Of course the MacBook Pros have been using the Santa Rosa chipset for a while now... but they use a different GPU and OEM versions of Apple's OS are usually tied to the hardware they ship with.
Having said that... It would seem the easiest thing to do would be to configure a new Leopard machine manually instead of using an image. Granted... you wouldn't want to do that for a bunch of machines... but it shouldn't be a major amount of work to set up just one manually... especially if it's for the Headmaster.
Any refurbs Apple ships will have the current OS (Leopard) installed. There is a good chance that you can still get a refurb of the previous MacBook model (before the current upgrade to the SR chipset). In that case, it would still have Leopard installed, but your image should work on it.

  • Installing ODBC requires newer version of the Univeral Installer

Hi, I need to install a newer ODBC driver for 3rd part software to connect to our new UTF-8 version of the database. I downloaded the version of ODBC I need, but when I try to install it I get an error saying I need a newer version of the Universal Installer. I've looked all over the site and cant' find a place I can just download a new version of the OUI. Any suggestions?

What version of the Oracle client are you using and what version of the Oracle ODBC driver are you trying to use?
I expect that the problem you're having is that Oracle changed the way that ODBC driver updates are packaged a couple years ago. Rather than being separate downloads, they included the ODBC driver updates in the Oracle client patchsets you can download from Metalink. That simplified life in that organizations that apply the full client patchset didn't have to separately install the ODBC driver updates. It complicated life in that if a client patchset updates the version of the OUI that is installed, the stand-alone install you can download from OTN requires the patched OUI which you only get by installing the client patchset from Metalink or getting a later version of Oracle that happens to include the later version of the OUI. Assuming your organization has a valid support contract, getting the client patchset from Metalink is most likely the way to go.

  • How can I know if the version of Flash Player installed is the right version for Internet Explorer?

    Hello,
I have Windows 7 Starter with Internet Explorer 8 and Adobe Flash Player 10,1,85,3.
I am experiencing problems with one particular web site which uses Flash technology to operate its web site., which is:
    gadget-detective.moonfruit.com.
It has been suggested to me that I check I have installed the correct Flash Player for the web browser
I am using which is Internet Explorer 8, that in particular I should check I have not installed in error a Flash Player
for "other browsers". I do not know how to check if the version of Flash Player I have installed is the correct one for
Internet Explorer, but, when I go to the Adobe web site at:
    http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/
it states that Flash Player is successfully installed.
Here are the problems I have been encountering with accessing the above-mentioned "gadget-detective" web site,
where I have had to use different URLs to attempt to get access to the technical advice areas on their web site:
1)A Welcome page with a link to the Free Technical Advice page located someway down the centre of the Welcome page,
but still with none of the previous links along the left side:
    http://www.gadget-detective.moonfruit.com/#/free-tech-advice/4515074362
2)A Welcome page with no links at the left side and in particular no link at all to the Free Technical Advice page:
    http://www.gadgetdetective.com/
    3)A completely black page:
    http://gadget-detective.moonfruit.com/#/free-tech-advice/4537230823
How can I be certain that I have the correct version of Flash Player for my web browser Internet Explorer 8?
    Regards.

    Hello  ʇɐb ɹəuəllıʍ ,
Thanks for your reply. I would appreciate it if you could let me know what the Flash Player setting
called "Hardware Acceleration" does, before I try disabling it.
    Regards.

  • What if an app is not installed on Mac but it shows the app is installed on App Store ?

I've recently bought MacBook Pro with Retina Display and got iLife for free. As the update for iMovie was not successfully installed due to lack for internet connectivity, I thought of removing it from from my mac and reinstall it. But as I opened the App Store for reinstalling iMovie, it show that the app is already installed on my mac. So, all the mac geeks do help me to install iMovie as I'm beginner in the mac-world.

Well, I couldn't see the iMovie icon in the launchpad or in the dock. So I moved the iMovie files in Applications folder to Trash and empied the Trash. And I think I've successfully uninstalled it from my Mac.

  • Installing  game....Not sure if this is the right place for this.....

Could not find a better place.
I would like to play World of Warcraft on a free server (already installed and playable) and on Retail. Is there a way I can do that without having to purchase an external HD. On my PC I have to have a different Drive. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Well, it is a apple question though. It has to do with whether two of the same program can be housed on the same HD on a MAC. On a PC it can't, I am wanting to find out if it can on a MAC since they are different. Thanks for your response.
