Is OS X v 10.6 Snow Leopard compatible with the newest xcode?

I am looking to buy my friends mac that has snow leopard on it. I plan on using the computer just for coding on xcode. Does anyone know if it is compatible the newest xcode?
Thanks

If the Mac is 10.10 compatible, you can setup a separate partition with 10.10 on it, keeping the 10.6.8 partition.  Note other compatibility issues migrating between the two:

  • Is snow leopard compatible with ipad mini?

Hello I need to know if snow leapard is compatible with the ipad mini

In that case, I suppose that you were asking if you can sync your device. The iPad mini requires iTunes 10.7 or later, version that Snow Leopard supports, so you can sync the iPad. Open  > Software Update, and install the most recent version. Also, make sure you are running iTunes 10.7 or the most recent iTunes 11

  • Is Snow Leopard compatible with Canon camera software?

Since I loaded Snow Leo some time ago, now the Canon Camera Window software gives me 'failed to initialize program', so that I can't download pics from the PowerShot A1000 IS. With Leopard, it worked the first time and fine. I have upgraded from the Canon site, done the TS suggested by Canon, to no avail. They say no drivers needed. Help! Thank you! Mark

Wow, you have no idea how helpful this answer is! After my upgrade to SnowJob, my Canon camera software wouldn't work. This in and of itself was not a problem, since I don't want any "help" with downloading, viewing, and organizing my photos. All I wanted to do was get them from the camera to the system, which is exactly what Image Capture does. Thanks!!!!

  • Can os x 10.6 (Snow Leopard) run on the newest i Mac?

I am getting a new iMac; unfortunately, I need to install a bunch of programs that are not compatible with OS X Lion (10.7); therefore, I need Snow Leopard (10.6) instead. Since I'm getting the newest iMac model (2011), I'm not sure is Snow Leopard can run on it. It's a 21.5-inch 2.5 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5 1920 x 1080 resolution 8GB (two 4GB) memory 500GB hard drive AMD Radeon HD 6750M with 512MB. Would you tell me if they are compatible? Thanks.

If you're using the Late 2011 iMac, no, but see below. If it's an earlier 2011 model, you'll need a set of Mac OS X installation disks designed for it or install a regular 10.6 system on another Mac, update it to 10.6.8, and then move the system to that iMac.
In any case, Mac OS X Server 10.6 can be run in emulation on Intel Macs which don't support it as a native OS.

  • Is snow leopard compatible with microsoft office and with quicken 2007?

Is snow leopard 10.6.3 compatible with Microsoft office and with quicken 2007.  I am about to upgrade to snow leopard and wanted to see if there are any problems with interfacing with non apple applications.  Any help is appreciated.

Yes. Snow Leopard includes Rosetta, which will allow Office 2004 and Quicken 2007 to run. Office 2008 and 2011 are Intel native and will also run under SL.

After uninstalling the old version and installing the new one, I can only install Canon ipv6 UFRII and not Canon ip UFRII, which is what I need. Hopefully an update will be released soon!

  • Setting up Snow Leopard Server with Address Book, iCal for Small Business

    Hello Folks,
I have a small business with 2-3 people and I want to setup Snow Leopard Server on a Mac Mini. I have everything in place, RAID, Backup drive etc.
What I need is a guide on how to setup the server correctly and how to setup Address Book Server, iCal Server, DNS, etc. I was in IT a long while back but have gone back to my creative roots and sworn off IT but I am in a situation where my IT guy's wife is pregnant so he is busy painting the baby's room, etc.
I was looking at Snow Leopard Server for Dummies and a few other books. Do you guys have any suggestions on resources for me to read or research that would give me very straightforward steps in getting this setup. I am at a point where I can re-install from scratch if needed.
For the ease of those that might respond let's assume I know my way around Mac and general networking as a whole.
Thanks in advance for any advice.
    Cheers,
    Jason

    Hi Guys,
First of, I will give you a brief background on me regarding networking as a mac user since 1994. I can setup and network multiple macs without a server in our home and small office. Turning file, print and internet sharing with a regular Mac OS X client version at no problem at all. This would be my first time setting up a Mac OS X Snow Leopard Server.
I'm in the same boat as Jakekub but we do not have a static IP from our DSL provider. We just bought a Mac Mini Server for our small office with 3 iMacs and 1 MacBook. We will just use the server for internal usage and to centralized things out and use some of server's features like Address Book, Mail, iCal etc. I've search the forums and found Orhidy's post here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2148553
I even followed the sample IP Address, Subnet Mask, Router, DNS Server and I think I had it correctly setup initially. And I think I got it all running on the basic setup base on his instructions. So I tried to test my DNS settings via Terminal > hostname then got answer as
    servername.companyname.private
And double checking DNS again with a command: sudo changeip - checkhostname and was given an answer of:
    Primary address = 192.168.1.192
    Current Hostname = servername.companyname.private
    DNS Hostname = servername.companyname.private
The names match. There is nothing to change
    dirserv:success = "success"
But here's another one that bugs me. I tried to follow from "Mac OS X Snow Leopard for Dummies" the command line:
    NSLOOKUP hostname
    and got an answer of:
;; Got SERVFAIL reply from 192.168.1.192, trying next server
    Server: 192.168.1.1
    Address: 192.168.1.1#53
** server can't find hostname: NXDOMAIN
So does it mean that I still haven't configured my server properly?
Thank you all for the help in advance!

  • I want to install Yosemite onto an external hard drive, and keep Snow Leopard installed on the internal hard drive. I want to be able to boot from either system, depending upon circumstance (at least until Yosemite is stable). Is this possible?

iMac, Model Identifier iMac12,1 with 121.5" screen, 2.8 GHz Intel Core i7 processor, 8 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 memory, 1 TB internal hard drive, running Snow Leopard 10.6.8 from internal drive.
I want to install Yosemite onto a 1 TB external hard drive (OWC) , and keep Snow Leopard installed on the internal hard drive. I want to be able to boot from either system, depending upon circumstance (at least until Yosemite is stable). Is this possible?

It is possible. I'll let you read some articles that cover the setup:

  • Snow leopard and 3.2.6 xcode

To begin Snow leopard is 10.6.8 up to date.
Well, as I only been searching up and down the web for a solution to this problem, I have found alot of dead ends and unanswered problems.
Xcode 3.2.6 Seems to be the must rare thing in the universe to come across, or at least for myself it is.
I'm running Snow leopard hint the title.
It came with a disc, oh wait isn't that a wonder since thats the only way you can download it, as I'm aware of, and almost absurd you can digitally download mavericks.
Anyways the xcode that comes with the optional install on the disc only is up to date to 3.0, isn't that shocking since i wasted my time and money getting snow leopard because of the many problems apple has with almost everything (leopard & openssl cert.) which was a pain in the *** to begin with.
    Warning: Xcode is not installed
Most formulae need Xcode to build.
It can be installed from https://developer.apple.com/downloads/
As the above is pretty ******* obvious what the problem is, where the real problem lies is that i can't install it.
When i go to install: xcode_3.2.6_and_Ios_sdk_4.3.dmg everything appears to be fine until it actually starts to verify it and in less then about ten second everytime it is denied.
I've gone through **** trying to figure this out and even the programmers at my local business are unable to figure this problem out because there is absolutely no explanation to why it won't install. It does not give me a hint of any sort, it is simply put "verification unable to process"
Now before I thought of actually coming here and looking for help i have reinstalled xcode and snow leopard numerous times to recieve the same problem.
Quite frankly I do not wanna put more money into lion as I heard first off its a waste, and secondly why should I keep spending money and getting the same **** results.
I heard about getting Xcode 4.2 but I'm not even sure this is compatible with Snow leopard let alone the link is busted and access is denied due to having to be a paid member on the apple site, (which at this rate will never happen)
I don't mean to be rude, I'm just a twenty one year old kid with a bit of furious attitude who doesn't like to waste his time and money.
But please if this at all gets answered (which I'm almost positive it won't from everywhere else i searched no answers are being given) that it at least be related to the cause, as I can see alot of people are in the same situation and therefore i believe a REAL solution should not be left unheard.
If any more information is needed, please feel free to ask. I will be checking in so often to to hopefully come back to a fix.
Thank you for letting me waste your time.
