  • N96 - GPS local maps and voice guided navi for 3 m...

I see on the box of the N96 :
"Including local maps and voice-guided navigation for three months"
So after 3 months there is no local maps and voice ?
    Why that ?
Even a cheap GPS at 100 euros has maps and voice forever
I dont understand. I have paid the phone and his features or not ?

I have to disagree with you there.
The system is designed to suit all users, not just those that use the phone for navigation in the car. Plus many people won't use the phone for navigation but will use it as an interactive map book.
Also with all the new and upcoming location based services that nokia now offers it is very important to have up-to-date maps.
If we had to pay for map updates then many of the location based services wouldn't be accurate or worth using.
So for a phone based navigation program it makes much more sense to get free maps. Obviously they have to recoup the map costs from somewhere so they have to charge for the navigation feature.
For dedicated in car sat-nav systems such as tom toms then it makes sense for them to give you the navigation for free. They make their money by charging you for new maps and maps for other countries.
So in some ways nokia's system is better because you have maps of most of the world totally free. It's also the only system that could suit the majority.
At the end of the day no one is forcing you to use nokia maps either. If you don't like it then install a program like garmin XT. This program is like in car sat-navs where navigation is free but you pay for maps. A very expensive option if you travel to many countries.

  • Ovi Maps with stored offline satelllite images fro...

    Hello
So far I know that it's not possible to use the built-in satellite view from Ovi Maps when offline.
But might it be possible to configure Ovi Maps such that it takes stored satellite images from a specific location on the phone (e.g. memory card) instead of downloading them from its pre-configurated map server?
If so, it would be possible to download maps / sat images from Google, Microsoft Live, Yahoo or whatever and include them in Ovi Maps - would be a great feature!

    nobody an idea?

  • Nokia OVI Maps - Free Navigation

Nokia OVI Maps - Free Navigation
Mobile navigation for everyone, the Ovi Maps takes you where you want to be and shows you what you want see, with navigable maps for over 70 countries worldwide. All this with only one click. And it's all free.
    - Free Drive navigation
    - Free Walk navigation
    - Free maps and map updates
    - Free Events guides
    - Free Lonely Planet guides
    - Free Michelin guides
You thought Garmin and TomTom were in trouble when Google announced its free Navigation service? Wait until investors hear Nokia's news.
Reuters is reporting that Nokia will offer free navigation on its smartphones. However, instead of just the US (the current Google limitation sans hacking), Nokia will be demonstrating its reach by offering free turn-by-turn directions in 74 countries and 46 languages - a move that should cover 20 million smartphones globally with Ovi Maps available in over 180 countries.
Update: The original San Francisco Chronicle report has been pulled but Google cache caught a bit more saying that Nokia's navigation service is "capable of operating completely offline" unlike Google Navigation which requires data connectivity.
Update 2: Nokia just made the download link live. Hey, where's the N97 and N900.
Update 3: And it's official. Starting today, Ovi Maps walk and drive navigation is free across the globe. Drivers receive turn-by-turn voice guidance including lane assistance, traffic information (in 10 countries including the US), and safety camera and speed warnings while pedestrians will be guided on shortcuts through parks and pedestrian-only zones in over 100 cities across the globe. It all works offline too, which should extend battery life and keep that navigation humming even while puttering about in data dead zones without racking up international roaming charges (take that, Google). From March 2010, all new Nokia GPS enabled smartphones will come installed with the new Ovi Maps application and pre-loaded with local country map data and walk and drive navigation with access to location-aware Lonely Planet and Michelin travel guides at no extra cost. Additional premium guides like a weather service and events / movies are also included. Just 10 devices from Nokia's massive catalog are available today a list that includes the N97 Mini, 5800 XpressMusic, 5800 navigation edition, E52, E55, E72, 5230, 6710 navigator, 6730 classic and X6.

  • N6110 Navigation don't recognize loaded ovi maps

After reformatting my memory card, I had many troubles. Firstly the restore from pc suite didn't work. I tried to start the card program. I stopped after 50% with an error. After many hours and searching the intranet I could start the card program. It allocated the cities directory on the memory card. After that I could load maps from OVI. The problem is the the navigator software only shows the world card as active. I have 2 more route66 cards license but not active. On route 66 those cards are no more available (product not found).
HOw can I get the Ovi maps recognized in the navigator?
Thanks for your help. I am despaired. The Nokia navigator was the best software I ever have seen.

    @N6110
    Welcome to the forum!
Presumably as you can no longer utilise Route66 to work on your 6110 Navigator you have decided to install Nokia_Maps_2.0_4503_3.1.sis from http://europe.nokia.com/support/product-support/maps-support/compatibility-and-download#/nokia-6110-...
Ironically although S60 3rd FP1 device it can not run OVI Maps v3.01
Have you got a spare formatted microSD you can insert and then open Nokia Maps application on device to re-initialise application and define folder structure?
In the days when there was a separate Maploader application (no longer works) I seem to remember device was connected in mass storage mode for Nokia Maps, but of course has to be connected in PC Suite mode for OVI Suite to recognise it.

  • E51 and Maps with Ovi

    Hello everyone,
I have installed the Nokia OVI application my laptop running windows 7 and connected to my Nokia E51 using a USB cable.
I noticed that I could install OVI maps with an update.
I let the OVI application handle the download and started the installation, on my E51 I told the installer to continue, I accepted the certificates and I saw a screen with a bar which said "installing".
After this I can't find any thing like nokia maps in my instalations folder.
In my OVI application I can't install any maps.
The same happened when I used the nokia website to find a version of Ovi maps for my E51:
    http://europe.nokia.com/support/product-support/maps-support/compatibility-and-download#/default/
Is there a way to fix this?
    Yours sincerely,
    Frank

You cant install maps until you have ran the maps application once.
Please check under the applications file. Also, where is the old maps application which was bundled with the device? That would be what you will open since the new maps app just replaces the old installation.

  • Ovi Maps 3.03 + E-72 compass problem

    Hi all,
Yesterday I installed the new free Ovi Maps and managed to download some maps and voice guidance files onto it as well. Yay for the free new gadget. But somehow my compass doesn't seem to work anymore. Or rather, it stays white and I don't see the map tilt. With the previous version I would just move the phone along all axis for a few seconds and it would turn from white to yellow to green (as described in the manual). Here, nothing happens, no matter how long or how often I turn and twist the thing.
Is there a different way to do it in the new Ovi Maps? Am I doing something wrong? Is it a bug? If so, am I the only one with it?

    its real bugs...
I believe when you're in guided-navigation mode (drive/walk), then the map is automatically oriented towards where you're heading.  I wasn't able to try the voice-guided navigation back in Ovi Maps 3.01 (still have a few days free license pre-included with my E72)

    Hi everyone,
I just got my X6 yesterday... I tried installing maps 3.03 on my X6, after the installation, a software update named 'ovi maps - with free navigations' appeared... I tried starting the update many times, but it kept on giving out the 'update failture' message... what happened? how can I fix this update failure and continue using my maps?

    1. Download Ovi Maps 3.03 for X6 from HERE

  • Nokia N82 Free 3 Month Trial for Voice-Guided Navi...

    Hi all,
Nokia promoted a free 3-month trial for the voice-guided navigation on the Nokia N82 and I'm due to be visiting a few places in Britain soon so I need the maps to get there. But being a little tight, I was hoping I could get away with the free trial but the only options it gives me are three different plans which I have to pay for.
Any ideas anyone?? Any help much appreciated, Thanks

  • Ovi maps and Nokia Maps

I have recently downloaded the ovi maps update for free navigation on my 5800 however now I seem to have 2 programs in my installed apps menu, Ovi maps and Nokia maps. This is causing me some problems as my phones built in memory is now completely full and I am unable to do some things as I have ran out of on phone memory space. Which one is the main map software? And also can I uninstall one? If not then can it be installed on a MSD card and if yes how?

As far as I can determine Ovi maps is the mapping software (program) which installs to C (phone memory) and Nokia maps is the map data that you have loaded which I believe are installed to E (mass memory).
I can confirm that you do need both installed.
The problem as far as I can see is that the previous maps versions 3.01 is built into the current firmware (v20 for N97 - not sure for 5800) and installing maps 3.03 does not remove or overwrite the earlier version so you end up with both versions installed and thus the extra memory footprint.
This will remain a problem until a newer firmware is released which will hopefully have maps 3.03 (or later depending when next firmware is released) thus reducing the extra 9 megs or so used.
    Hope this answers your question

  • [Nokia Maps] Unable to purchase navigation feature

On My E90, I tried several times to upgrade to "voice navigation" but failed. That was what I did as the followings:
    1. [Options] -> [Extra services] -> Add navigation
    2. [Accept] the terms and conditions
    3. [Purchase] "Navigation upgrade"
    4. The unusual part began :
4.1. Select region "Taiwan" then the application crashed and back to desktop
4.2. Select region "Taiwan/China/Hong Kong/Macau" then it shows "Please enter your personal license code, which you received at the time of purchase" and an input field labeled "CD" which you are able to key-in a license code in format "nnnn-nnnn-nnnn". Of course, I dunno what to do and stop here.
According to the official information -
Nokia Europe - Nokia Maps - Voice-guided Navigation
    http://europe.nokia.com/A4509359
There should be a screen w/ license-type selection then I will able to choose the payment method and finish the process. But unfortunately I just unable to see one. Anyone could help please?

This is strange as I usually find wifi to be the better connection to use. It is also free as opposed to paying network data charges on 3g. Anyway, the main thing is you got it to work.
Truly! I am glad it finally work properly too. I applied an fixed price package of my 3.5G network that provide unlimited packets transmission on a monthly subscription fee, that's why I just let my E90 stay on the mode instead of WiFi.
Anyway, I think the problem is not due to the connection method but the service/application itself. Before I could purchase the navigation feature of region "Taiwan", tried some other regions and one of it "triggered" the "Update" procedure. That is the first time I saw it happen which gimme a hint, so I go back to region "Taiwan" and it got an "Update" too. Finally, everything worked. Dunno if it is a tip but I think it might help if someone just meet same problem as me.

  • E66 GPS VOICE GUIDE

Anyone can advise me where can I get a English female voice guide in my GPS? When I purchased my E66 it was installed with female english guide together with the map, after I upgraded with the latest firmware I download all the new maps and voice guide thru Nokia Map Loader but I got a male voice.
    mcknites

    Hi joeski
You are correct that English female was available in Maps v1.0, not present in V2.0 but is now back in V3.0 Beta.
