Is OWB can do the job of Disco Admin?

Hi ,
i am new to discoverer world
i just want to ask, do we still use Discoverer administrator to create our folders, hierarchies ,.......
or just OWB + Dico plus / viewer is sufficient , becuase i don't find the word "disco admin" in the new job specs in job sites

I love your login name by the way.
I'm an out and out advocate of Discoverer Admin as I find it so much easier to work with than using OWB. Now while you can use OWB to generate a business area, with its associated folders, items, joins and so on, I haven't yet seen a way for OWB to manage security to the business areas. Unless someone can contradict me I'm sure you still need to use Admin to control access to the business areas and what a user can do with the data once connected. I also don't believe you can do summary management inside OWB.
Don't get me wrong, OWB is a great tool but it doesn't replace Discoverer Administrator - not yet anyhow! Oracle are really focused on the DBA side of OWB and not on the artistic side of presenting Discoverer to end users in a pleasing manner. You can't add folder and item separators inside OWB, you can't create custom SQL folders and you can't create complex folders, all of the things that experienced Discoverer administrators do on a daily basis.
To answer Russ' comment you do still need to have an EUL into which to insert a business area from OWB.

If it is upto 10 characters then you can use Requirement Tracking Number field in PO. This field flows in all reports of PO this will help you.
Also you can use Communication Tab at Header level.
At Item level you can also make use of Text tab and can maintain job number in Item Text.

I have a Mac Pro Mid2009,do i need a antivirus installed?.Never had a trouble till now though!,but just to get things clariffied.If got to install,which is one recommended and preferably a freeware which can do the job.

I have a MacBook Pro mid 2009 version.Have got no Antivirus installed so far all these years and its been fine till this moment.
Just to satisfy my curiosity,would i require to install one,to be on the safe side or doing so would that slow do my system,like browsing and my operations?.
Please advice if it's preferred to have a antivirus installed and if so which one would the experts recommend,preferably a freeware if that could do the required job.
Would appreciate any sincere advice on this topic,

Firstly thank you so much for your reply.
As stated in my query earlier,i do not have or feel any specific issue is ongoing right now with my Mac pro,but at times i feel a sort of slowness in my Firefox browser opening up and at various times,have the beach ball popping up after a command is given and takes a while to set in.
All these sometimes make me think,if i am getting into trouble,and hence thought should i install a Antivirus?.
Ok,is there anyway i can check if my Mac pro is free of any Viruses or Malware or any sort of these things?.

This is due to invalid objects in ORACLE_OCM schema.
Please read metalink note id:

Symptoms
OEM recommends that EXECUTE privilege being revoked from PUBLIC. After revoking the privilege, the following errors appeared in alert log:
ORA-12012: error on auto execute of job 66171
ORA-04063: package body "ORACLE_OCM.MGMT_DB_LL_METRICS" has errors
ORA-06508: PL/SQL: could not find program unit being called: ORACLE_OCM.MGMT_DB_LL_METRICS"
ORA-06512: at line 1 has errors .
Also, the below query returns invalid rows count (approximately 46 rows)
SQL> select object_name, owner, object_type, status from dba_objects where status = 'INVALID';
Owners of invalid objects are ORACLE_OCM and WMSYS
*Cause*
At the time of installation of the database, Oracle execute scripts that test to see if PUBLIC access is granted to all of the routines that ORACLE_OCM and WMSYS need access to. If PUBLIC access is NOT available, Oracle scripts grant specific access rights. However, If EXECUTE privilege is revoked from PUBLIC after installation, then those specific access rights needs to be granted manually.
*Solution*
You will need to grant execute on UTL_FILE and DBMS_SCHEDULER to ORACLE_OCM and WMSYS. The below action plan should solve the issue:
SQL> grant execute on UTL_FILE to oracle_ocm;
SQL> grant execute on DBMS_SCHEDULER to oracle_ocm;
SQL> grant execute on UTL_FILE to wmsys;
SQL> grant execute on DBMS_SCHEDULER to wmsys;
SQL> shutdown immediate;
SQL> startup restrict;
SQL> @utlrp.sql /* $ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/admin/@utlrp.sql */
SQL> shutdown immediate;

How can we change the Job priority in the Source system

Hi All,
We are facing an issue with the process chain execution in the Production system. We have a process chain which runs daily in BI system and the chain is designed in such a way, that as soon as the chain starts in BI system, a corresponding job is triggered in the Source system (ECC 6.0system).
Now the issue is that after we have our Source system upgraded the memory allocation for the particular Job (FIGL )is reduced and due to which the FIGL job is failing frequently. When we have consulted some experts.They advised Us to increase the Priority of the Job in source system to A/1, as of now the job is running in B/2 priority.
Please let us know the way how we can increase the priority of the Source system Job, so that when the process chain triggers a job in source system and that particular jobs should run with Priority A/1.

Hi Chandra,
First please find the job name in SM37 for FIGL and check the job status to be in "released" status. Select that job and go to job menu and click on change. then it will take you to the job screen where you have "job class". Here you can change the job class to "A" to get to high priority.
If you are unable to edit the job then create a new job with the same variants by clicking STEP button in the Job screen.
Try these steps, let me know if are able to do so.

How can cancle the job that created by SGEN. after i run the T-code SGEN. I have shutdown the server. But after i restart the Server, the job is dead. but can not be cancled by SM37. When i terminate the job in the SGEN it can not work too. any other way to cancle the job?

Hi Michael,
PLease click on "CHECK STATUS" for this job in SM37 and check on "process ASAP".
Then if there is no BTC work process for this job running in SM50, then this job status will change from "running" to "cancelled".
Please try this and let me know the output.

How to send a job log/Spool once the job completed in an other Jobchain

I have a Jobchain which raises events when Job goes to status error.
After that a job starts which sends a mail. In this Job I have the parameter:
raising_job_id:
=waitEvents.NSN_JOB_ON_ERRORO.raiserJobId so I can pass the Job ID and send it in the mail.
But how can I also pass the Joblog of the errorjob to the sending mailjob ?
relative_job_id and loblog parameters from system_mail_send job does not work because it's not in the sam Jobchain.
Do I have to use some pre/post running actions ?

Then this is your lucky day! Since you already have enough knowledge to get the job id from the raiser event you are already half way there! This is because the System_Mail_Send job also understands an arbitrary job id as a RelativeJob. So if you pass the found job id into the RelativeJob parameter and * into the JobFile parameter all output files from the failed job will be send out.

We allow our users to schedule and execute in background mode transactions (example IP19, IW38). We gave them for that authorizations (object S_BTCH_JOB with LIST, PROT, RELE and SHOW - objetct S_PROGRAM with BTCSUBMIT).
We would like that users can schedule and execute their jobs only with the u201CImmediateu201D job start condition (in the Start Time screen for the type of start condition : Immediate, Date/Time, After job, After event, or At operation mode).
Another solution: prohibit the scheduling and the execution background job in a certain time interval ...
How can restrict the job start conditions ?

Yes, sa38 makes it possible indeed to execute in background into immediate mode a job but
the user have to know the name of the program to be carried out ...
The user knows only the name of these transactions trade. For example, IW38.
In the menu of this transaction, SAP gives the possibility to execute in background :
Program --> Execute in Background --> display of Start Time screen for the type of start condition :
Immediate, Date/Time, After job, After event, or At operation mode).
It is at this time there that we want that the user can only choose the "immediate" mode.
We must thus prohibit the other choices (Date/Time, After job, After event, or At operation mode) ... and
and we don't know how to restrict these other options in this screen "Start Time screen for the type of start condition".

This transaction is used to monitor the process chains
First:
here you need to add the process chains into the sheet
Second:
Then you can monitor the process chains in this transaction code
Like you can see the : status ,proces chain ,Last run date ,Last run time ,Log ID
Status : Green when sucessful,Yellow when running & Red when you get errors
Now when yoy click on any of the process chain in RSPCM you will go to the LOG VIEW as you see in RSPC transaction

This transaction is used for Job Overview
you can see many options in SM37
like Released,active,cancelled,finished,etc
Just select the ACTIVE jobs and also pass STAR in JOB ID & USER ID
here you can only see the active jobs
Goto Step in toolbar
select the program displayed
then chose option GOTO - Variant in main menu bar
in the variant you can see the job belong to which Process chain
if you want to cancel this job come back to SM37 Display screen
Select the Job and select the JOB DETAILS tab in Tool Bar
Collect the WIP ( Work Permit ID)
Go to SM50 T.code and find the WIP
in Main Menu Bar you find the option Cancel with Core choose this it will cancel the Job

Tcode sm37 is the place where you can see the background job status.
Jobs have been help up
as per my understanding
1) job has been triggered and kept it in hold
Now when a job has been triggered, and is kept in hold for its associated process, then you have to wait, becuse the target on which the job has been run is currently used by other and because of this the present job is kept in hold.
Also see the st22 for any shortdumps.
2) Job itself has not yet triggered
The jobs will be in released state and will not trigger, normally this occurs when that particular job is waiting for the event to trigger it, and probably the even has not yet triggered or even if triggered the communication mightnot have been made to the job to trigger. These situations can be attributed to many things lyk system performance, or some internal comm failure, some DB dead locks etc.,.
Now for the first one, start the job immediately with high priority ( if required ) and once completed reschedule it again as normally it is running
for the second , you can trigger the particular event in sm64 and c has the job came to active state or not.
or else you can copy the job and schedule is immediately.

I have a number of jobs created under one administrator account in OEM 10g. And now my requirement is to re-create these jobs under some other adminstrator User account.
So, is there any process in OEM , where we can copy all the jobs from one user account to the other user accounts.
I guess create like option can be only Helpful if you are planning to copy a single OEM job. And also , administrator who will copying the jobs , should have a super admins assigned so that the job is visible for him.

Do you need the jobs to be OWNED by the new admin or just accessible and modified? You can edit the job and grant the user Full permissions in the Access tab. Otherwise, the only option is to Create Like as you mentioned. No batch method.

How to Change the name of the Job scheduled in the background.

You can change the Job names based on the selection screen.Check in ur program where they are naming the background Job.
For Eg:In FM JOB_OPEN.
That would be something like
If REPID = '1'.
Background Job name = '1'
ELSEIF REPID = '2'.

Background Job name = '3''
ENDIF.

can check the jobs by its name and user ID.
ex: BIDTPR job for loading data with DTP.
and time of job run.
check for different jobs runs thorugh process chain, go to completed process chain -> right click on each process type and select messages -> back ground job.

SWU_OBUF really should do the same trick as the job. (I neither can remeber the job name.)
Did you have some transaction(s) open in another session(s), when you executed SWU_OBUF. This might have a really annoying effect: the SWU_OBUF doesn't seem to do its job. For example I once had SE37 open in another session, and SWU_OBUF didn't do the trick (tried many times). After closing SE37, it suddenly worked...
