Is owb repository should be in target database..??

Hi,
I have 2 databases.. db1,db2
I have owb repository in db1,
No repository in db2 can I use db2 as Targer db in the maps..??
Is it manadatory to have a OWB repository in target database..??
Cheers,
Sivarama

I still have a lot to do before becoming an expert in OWB, but I can assure you that you don't need the OWB repository on either the source or target databases. In the Oracle class that I took, the sample architecture had the OWB repository on a stand alone database (either the source or target).
I think, and this is where I can be wrong, that you may need a dblink between the repository and the target.

  • Rollback 10.2.0.4 applied to OWB repository

how can we rollback the 10.2.0.4 applied to OWB repository
    what are the proper steps?
    thanks in advance

Yes, I certainly agree the SR wording could/should be improved - i.e. it could/should say "once applied it can not be removed". If it was my SR I think I would have asked for clarification on that point just to be certain.
However, I'm not sure that is enough to cause "serious concerns if it really came from Oracle Support Services" and/or give me "considerable doubt" as to whether or not the text did come from an SR. But that is me.
Earlier in the thread the poster was flat-out accused of lying ("Please don't tell lies. You didn't read the readme. If you would have done so, you would have noticed chapter 11..."), not by you I should point out, but, guess what? There is no Chapter 11 in the 10.2.0.4 OWB patchset nor are there any de-install/removal instructions.
Even though I have never used OWB, the subject referenced "10.2.0.4 applied to OWB repository" and I read that as the 10.2.0.4 OWB patch had been applied to an OWB repository and not that any database patch(set) had been applied. Apparently none of the other responders read it that way. But, rather than being accused of lying and having advice offered to the effect that, yes, a database can be downgraded (which is not relevant for an OWB patch), perhaps the poster would have been better served by a request for clarification as to what patch(set) had been applied and to what product.
I do think the Warehouse Builder forum (Warehouse Builder would have been a better location for the thread, but for the poster to be accused of lying and to have the insinuation of making up data from an SR (or making up the SR itself) seems a bit harsh for a mis-placed thread/posting on a topic that appears to have befuddled some on the Database - General forum.

  • OWB Repository tables

Can anyone tell me where can i get information about OWB repository tables created in the database when we install OWB.
I basically want to know what each table does??
tables for eg. wb_rt_tasks, wb_rt_errors etc...
Edited by: Commander on Sep 25, 2008 4:40 AM

    Hi,
if you will have this information you can sell it! ;-) The repository is not documented very well. When you work with the owb some years you will know something about it, but not everything. And often you need informations from more than one table, because the information is splitted in many pieces (relational tables!). And the constraints are not documented. And in 11g the repos has changed very much!
    Good luck,

  • Issue in OWB mapping - when changing source and target database

    Hi,
I need help for resolution of the issue I am facing when moving mapping from development environment to QA.
    Here is situation,
We develop ETL using one source, one staging and one target database.
In development we use one control_center for Source to staging and another control center staging to target.
    All works fine in development.
Now I have created new runtime repository and imported all OWB projects (with full dependencies, exact replica of development). Now I need to change source and staging and target as different database.
I have created new database location connections and defined/attached DB connectors with stage and target location.
    Now issues are
    1.     Two Staging mapping are not able to bound with source table (giving different error
    a.     One mapping show error for source synonym translation no longer valid when deploying this mapping , but validation comes without any issue)
    b.     Other mapping show error for source table/object not bound to repository
    2.     All the target mapping show validation successful, but when deploying says “table or view does not exist”. But tables are exists on source stage and target. (also permission are set correctly for target user to read from staging tables).
Not sure how to proceed from here.
I have recreated new repository and re-imported all project/mappings and defined all connection but still same issue.
    Thanks in advance,
    Vipin

    1. Two Staging mapping are not able to bound with source table (giving different error
    a. One mapping show error for source synonym translation no longer valid when deploying this mapping , but validation comes without any issue)
    b. Other mapping show error for source table/object not bound to repository
The above error were resolved when re-synchronized the table (for few I have to reimport the table) and mapping.
    2. All the target mapping show validation successful, but when deploying says “table or view does not exist”. But tables are exists on source stage and target. (also permission are set correctly for target user to read from staging tables).
The above error still pending. My target mapping are not able to deployed/compiled.
For the above I have defined one Staging location to one target target location and target location have connector to staging (not sure if I have to define connector name same as staging location, as I have created DB connector with different name but reference database is same as staging location).
Mapping are assoicated with desired data locatoin and meta data.
control center is also have that data location.
Mapping are configured for the desired location.

  • Apply the 10.2.0.5 patchset to database with 10.2.0.1 OWB Repository

We are planning to apply the 10.2.0.5 patchset to our 10.2.0.4 Data Warehouse database (10.2.0.4 ORACLE_HOME) that contains the 10.2.0.1 OWB Design and Runtime Repository (owbowner and owbrt_sys) schemas. The 10.2.0.1 OWB_HOME is a separte installation from the 10.2.0.4 RDBMS software.
We do need to upgrade the 10.2.0.1 OWB software, but did not want to do that at this time. If anyone has performed this task, would you please let us know if you ran into any issues/problems with the 10.2.0.1 OWB Repository after applying the 10.2.0.5 patchset to the database.
    Thank you in advance

    Hi,
There should not be any issue with OWB 10.2.0.1 and Oracle 10.2.0.5
We had this combination some time back and it worked without any issue.
    Thanks,

  • How to create an OWB Repository in a database

By default a database will have a repository installed into it. One has to create a workspace using Repository assistant within the repository.
    database> repository> workspace
    Question:
    1. How can I create a new repository [either in same or a new database]?
    2. Can one database have multiple repositories or is it limited to only 1?
    Thanks!

    >
Also, on 10g, how do I go about creating a repository.
Please note I'm aware of using Repository assistant to:
    create workspaces on 11g and
create repository owners on 10g [we create owners and not workspaces on 10g]
In both the cases where do I define a specific repository, where do I give the name of repository etc.
In 10g ,OWB Owner is nothing but the schema which holds OWB repository
If you are creating a new OWB Owner that means it is a new repository.
If you are creating/registering a new OWB user when you can choose an existing OWB repository/owner to which the new user will be associated with.
    Thanks,

  • OWB repository not working after SID changed ?

    Hi,
We have an OWB repository in a database named TEST. Recently the SID has been changed from TEST to TEST_2, and now the control center fails. Do I need to recreate the repository in the database after SID change, or could I just do some reconfigurations ? And if I could, how do I reconfigure the repository & control center based on the new SID name ?
    Thanks

You don't need to recreate repository,
but you should update OWB repository table ( for more details look at this thread
Re: Unable to connect control center and start runtime service
) and maybe you need perform additional steps from Metalink note 434272.1 (for updating target location info).

  • Importing a package into OWB repository.

    Hi,
there is a package existing in my OWB repository.
    Package ABC
    Procedure PQR(pram1 varchar2,param2 varchar2)
now i have modified this package in my target schema, an extra parameter is added to the procedure PQR.
    Procedure PQR(pram1 varchar2,param2 varchar2,param3 number).
now when I re import this package to my OWB repository module. it shows both versions of the procedures.
    Package ABC
    PQR(pram1 varchar2,param2 varchar2)
    PQR(pram1 varchar2,param2 varchar2,param3 number)
PQR(pram1 varchar2,param2 varchar2) is still vsible in OWB repository though it is replaced with PQR(pram1 varchar2,param2 varchar2,param3 number) in target schema.
Is there any way I can replace the old version of procedure with the new version in OWB repository.
    Regards
    RD_RBS

    Hi
Standard approach to be followed for any object modification
    1. If you have created your package from OWB and deployed it into your DB, always do it that way i.e. Design center -->DB . Do not make any modifications on DB level and import in back to your Design center. OWB manages Ids for all objects on the repository and this will confuse it. That is why you see two versions of the same package . Any modifications should be done on Design center level and then do a replace on the package from control center
    2. If an object (package or procedure) is created on DB directly and is imported into design center, follow the same norm everytime you make any changes to that object. The status of that object will appear as "New" or "Not deployed" on control center but that is fine because OWB has no ID on its repository to maintain this information.
    3. If you need to rename any object already deployed from OWB, always drop it first, then rename it and then deploy it. That way OWB will maintain the name and ID on its end and not get confused.
    4. For your case, you can drop the older version of the package from OWB, delete the one imported from Database into OWB, make the changes on OWB level (adding parameter etc) and then redeploy the same package as replace from control center.
    Hope these tips help

  • OWB on windows - load in linux database

    Hello,
Now that I have understood that I need to create a repository owner in the database where I load my data, I'm facing another problem :
Using the repository assistant from windows, I have tried to create a repository owner on a linux database, but there is a step named "Oracle home for the OWB Installation" where I am blocked. The error message globally says that I need to install OWB on the linux machine.
So my question is : do I don't understand the message or do I really need to install OWB on the linux machine even if I have the product installed on a windows server ?
Thank you in advance for your help.

    Hi,
You need to install the repository on the target database (linux). You just install the client on your windows machine.
You need to download the OWB binaries (.gz file) from oracle website matching your linux configuration (hardware/software) and unzip and place it under some directory in linux.
    Lets say /oracle/owb10gr2
When you unzip you should see /oracle/owb10gr2/owb.. and all the other directories
You can install the OWB repository using your windows client . When you reach step "Oracle home for the OWB Installation"
give the path of your OWB home on linux i.e /oracle/owb10gr2
    i hope this helps.
    Regards,
    Sam.

  • Error while registering user with owb repository.

    Hi all,
    I am using owb 10gr2.
I am trying to register a user with owb repository. I am getting below error.
ORA-00955: name is already used by an existing object
But when i try to deploy the mapping, it is showing a message
Cannot deploy PL/SQL maps to the target schema because it is not owned by the Control Center.
I am sure the user is not registered with owb repository. But i don't know why it is showing 0RA - 00955 error. Can somebody tell me what is the possible error.
    vasu

    Hi,
the user was created outside the owb ("... because it is not owned by the Control Center") direct in the database. You must first use the repository assistant (advanced options) to make him to a target user.
Then you can register him in the owb as repository user with special rights.

  • Can I create a n 11g repository in a 9.2 database?

I didn't see this combination on the certification matrix so I'm a little skeptical. It looked like the earliest version supported was 10.2
Has anyone created an 11g repository in a 9.2 database?
We have an existing application that still runs in 9.2 and I have a target schema in that database.
Any other ways to deploy to a 9.2 database with OWB 11g?
I've successfully created one in a 10.2 database.
    Thanks very much!!
    -gary

    Thanks for the response.
Unfortunately the target tables are part of the ERP system and our current process updates them directly and that's the procedure we need to maintain.
I may have to just keep the older version of OWB around for those 9.2 databases we still have.
    Thanks again.
    Have a great day.

  • Cannot Create OWB Repository Owner

    Hello All,
On windows XP pro, 32 bit, the following tasks were completed (clean system, 1.5 gig ram and dual core)
    - Installed 9.2.0.1 Server
    - Installed 9.2.0.6 Patch
    - Installed Oracle Worflow + and created workflow user
    - Installed OWB_10.2.0.1.win.zip
All seemed to be fine until attempting to create the OWB repository owner using the Repository Assistant
    Problem 1)
The Repository Assistant froze after being given the user details for the repository owner.
I found a fix (read Hack) for this that I am including FYI. The issue relates to the view dba_kgllock which was force created against objects that do not exist. To solve this I used TOAD to find the script used to create the view, deleted the view and created an empty table with the same columns.
This is a complete hackbut allowed OWB Repository Assistant. All then continued and was looking good until about 60% complete.
    Problem 2)
At approx 60% installation fails with a socket read fail within java.
Thats it, I've stopped dead now, going to continue installation attempts in the morning. If anybody out there can help I would be very greatful.

This appears to be a locking issue and looking at our Support database it is resolved in 10gR1 and 10gR2 versions of the database but remains on 9i although a warning dialog should be shown. Even so the installation should continue and should be successful.
Do you have AQ running? This sometimes causes this error to occur. I think in the 10gR1 documentation this locking issue was documented and it was supposed to be added to the 10gR2 doc (I need to check to this).
To figure the lock from Repo Asst code, use the following:
    select distinct
    s.sid,
    s.serial#,
    s.username,
    x.kglnaobj as objectname
    from
    dba_kgllock l,
    v$session s,
    x$kgllk x
    where
    l.kgllktype = 'Pin' and
    s.saddr = l.kgllkuse and
    s.saddr = x.kgllkuse and
    x.kglnaobj like '%DBMS_LOCK%';
If this returns rows, display the warning with a suggestion to connect to SQLPlus and issue the following statement (where SID, Serial are what came back from the query)
    ALTER SYSTEM KILL SESSION 'SID, Serial';
    e.g.
ALTER SYSTEM KILL SESSION '13, 8'
    That might solve the problem.
    Hope this helps.

  • Move OWB Repository from a srvr running 9.2.0.6 to a srvr running 10.1.0.2

I am attempting to move an existing OWB repository from a DB on a server running 9.2.0.6 to a DB on a server running 10.1.0.2. The Target and source servers are running Windows 2000 Advanced Server. All OWB components are 9.2. Until now all DB components are 9.2.0.6. The target server is running HTML DB using 10G. I am reluctant to have two production database levels on the target server, but I will if I have to.
I want to move the instance. What is the best way to accomplish this? There are several ways and I want to follow the course that will:
    1) Be a straight forward install
    2) Be maintainable
    3) Require the least interaction with multiple clients
    4) Assure that OWB and Workflow will work with the source/target DBs
I realize that this is a complex question and I have not fully described all of the moving parts, but I hope this provides sufficient information to start working towards a solution. If I left any pertinent information out, I would be happy to provide the information to flesh out this issue.
    Thanks in advance, RJZ

    Hi,
If you want to avoid running 2 database level you will need to upgrade your OWB repository to 10 (done via OWB export/import) and all OWB clients also (both of which contravene many of your 4 requirements). We went through this process last year (from 9 to 10 for database and OWB) and found a couple of issues during testing requiring changes. It would be best also to redeploy all OWB code to your target 10 database if you take this option.
There is a lot more I could say, if you have any specific questions or want more info, I'd be happy to help.
