Is Packager for iPhone gone?

From http://www.adobe.com/devnet/air/articles/ios_features_in_air26.html:
"The PFI (Packager for iPhone) utility is gone, and its functionality has been integrated into ADT. ADT can now be used to package AIR files, native desktop installers, Android applications, and iOS applications. I should also mention that iOS applications (IPA files) can be built and copied to iOS devices on Windows using ADT and iTunes."

From that link, it seems next version of the iOS packager is ready?

  • Packager for iPhone Labs Forum - moved but old links don't work :(

    Since Packager for iPhone is an obsulete product now and everybody "should" use AIR 2.6, the Packager for iPhone forum disappered today and all links bring to the page saying: "It appears you're not allowed to view what you requested. You might contact your administrator if you think this is a mistake."
    Come on guys, the old links to the specific forum threads should still work, I bookmarked so many links ralated to many problems "to read later" and now they are gone... Would be nice if there was some redirect to the same threads on the new forum if they were moved (I hope they aren't removed). So far we can only used "cached" in Google version...

    Yeah, great, thanks Adobe... you've just lost years worth of community comments and resource there!
    Who thought that removing that forum could ever be a good idea?!
    It could have stayed as a static 'read only' forum with this being the new place to add comments and threads.
    Shocking really...
    Please Adobe re-instate it. You're normally amazing but this truly sucks and is very surprising.

  • Internals of Packager for iPhone

    Hello, just out of curiosity.
    Does anyone of you know what exactly does the "Packager for iPhone" does?
    At first, I thought that it was some kind of cross-compiler from swf bytecode to Obj-C/arm code; because of Apple Restrictions, and because of the long time it takes the pfi 'recompile' an swf.
    However, after creating a really simple app (a Hello World), I see that it compiles to an .ipa of around 8MB. I've also developed native Obj-C apps and an application that does that would comfortably fit in around 200K. That makes me think that the pfi actually encapsulates the whole swf inside an Air Runtime that automatically starts up the app. That's more 'coherent' with what Adobe would do, since the pfi is actually part of Adobe Air, and because (I think), it would be easier (and safer) to program an Obj-C Air Runtime, than to create that kind of cross-compiler. If this is the case, I still don't get it why it takes so long to encapsulate the swf.
    Anyway, I haven't found any documentation related to this, let me know what you think about this.

  • Packager for iPhone 2.5?

    When will the Packager for iPhone for Adobe Air 2.5 be released?  Or, does the current packager work with Adobe Air 2.5?  Will there be performance optimization in the next PFI release?
    Thanks!

  • Flash CS6 and the old Packager for iPhone?

    Hi,
    I was wondering: now that it's possible to select an Air SDK version in Flash CS6, would it also be possible to use Flash CS6 with the old 'packager for iPhone' that came with Flash CS5?
    I know, I know, I should get rid of that old thing, but reality is that I used packager for iPhone to create one of my first apps and now I can't update to a newer version of Air. Apple doesn't allow that, because existing users wouldn't be able to update anymore.
    It would be great if CS6 can work with the old Packager for iPhone.
    Does anyone know the answer to this?

    Too bad... I was hoping to kick my old CS5 installation out of the window...

  • Why is the Packager for iPhone guide for Flash CS5 and not Flash Builder?

    Following this tutorial, I gave compiling an iPhone project via the command line a shot and found it very difficult. The commands are not clearly explained and have character errors (“ ” instead of " ", \ instead of /, etc.).
    I've also downloaded the pdf that comes with the Packager for iPhone and tried to follow along, but the explanations are for developing in the Flash CS5 IDE...why is that? It seems that Flash Builder would be the logical development environment for developers and a dev guide...
    Can anyone explain or perhaps direct me to an easier, more official tutorial on developing iPhone applications in Flash Builder? Thank you!

    Because Flash CS5 users need more help than us Flex devs. jk
    The "Packager for iPhone" was depreciated some time ago, so I imagine you are reading some old docs. Now (since FB 4.5), it's just another target platform in a Flex Mobile Project. Before then it was part of the ADT compiler which could be run in ANT (or a really long command line string), and before then it was actually the "packager for iPhone".
    If you do not have FB 4.5 then maybe you can provide more info on the challenges your facing, and someone may be able to point you in the right direction.

  • Packager for iPHONE

    Adobe® Flash® Professional CS5 will include a Packager for iPhone that will let you publish ActionScript 3 projects to run as native applications for iPhone. These applications can be delivered to iPhone users through the Apple App Store.*
    Adobe Flash Builder can create ActionScript projects so I was just wondering...Anyone know if this will be available for Adobe Flash Builder as well? or is this only for Adobe Flash Professional CS5???

  • Using VW connectivity package for iphone 4

    anyone have any experience with the VW Jetta 2011 connectivity package? ...the one that is accessible through the glove compartment? can you use it to play and charge either an iphone or an ipod? any comments on usability?

    I had a Blackberry Tour before I bought the iPhone. Dara costs the same and it basically just rolled over.
    Be aware though that the insurance costs more for iPhone. $10.99 a month with a high deductible depending on which model you have.

  • Is the Packager for iPhone (pfi) still for download somewhere?

    Hi,
    It's great to see that Adobe is making updates for the iOS development platform.
    However, I have an application in the appstore that I developed using the (old) pfi packager using Flash cs5.
    Therefore I can't update the app using Air 2.6 or 2.7.
    I wonder: what if I reinstall my mac from scratch, I need to reinstall pfi to create updates to my app.
    Does anyone know where I can download the old pfi?
    Or maybe someone downloaded the installer and is willing to send it to me?
    I would hate to be unable to continue development of my "old" apps...
    Thanx in advance!

    Thanx for your quick respons Sanika.
    Unfortunately the download-link doesn't work. It redirects to the new air-pages with no sign of a download link to the old files.
    I know I should better move to air 2.7 (and believe me, I want to!), but 2 things are bothering me about air 2.7:
    1) I am not able to upgrade my existing games due to the fact that some older devices aren't supported anymore. I have about 20.000 downloads allready so I can't ask all those people to download my app again when I release it under a different name. I just don't think people will like that. Especially when they have to pay for it again!
    2) My app is a game for kids and most of them don't have a fancy iPhone 4 or iPad. A lot of them have iPod touches (2nd en 3rd generation) and releasing an app in Air 2.7 makes it impossible for them to download it. I would loose a rather big audience if I do so...
    So, if anyone has a working download link for the old iPhone packager (PFI) or has another solution for the problems described above, I would really appreciate it.
    (makes me wonder how you other guys update your existing apps)

  • 3.1.3 update for iphone gone wrong.

    A few days ago I updated my iphone with the new update. I'm now regretting I ever did. It was working perfectly before.
    After the update, everything seemed normal until the next day when I went to send an SMS and found I couldn't. I saw that instead of showing my network signal, the words "locked sim" appeared, which wasn't really a surprise as my SIM is locked to T-Mobile. I then tried to make a call and found that I couldn't call either. When I got to work I did find that I could access internet using the Wireless, but could not make calls or do anything involving my Network.
    I have since then; restored, backed up, rebooted, many times. I also backed up all the applications I had onto iTunes so I could retrieve them later.
    I have found that if I restore I am able to get a network. So I can make calls, send SMS. However, if I turn the phone off and on again, the signal is lost again and the words "Locked Sim" appears.
    Also, after a successful restore, I have reloaded all the applications back on and the same thing happens, "Locked sim".
    I know this is an iphone problem as I've tried my sim in another handset and it worked perfectly.
    I'd appreciate any help fixing this. I did wonder whether setting up the phone on iTunes as a new phone would help, but also whether that would mean I couldn't put my applications back on the phone.

    I've done this, many times.
    I've now turned off the sim pin and tried restoring again. the restore went well, so I've loaded the apps on again. To my surprise that's also gone well, so I loaded my music back on.
    I have full signal, wifi is working, my apps are back on. Only thing I haven't tried yet is turning the iphone off and on again. I won't try it just now as I'm happy to have it all just working. The only change I've made is turning the sim pin off. I don't know if that has been the resolving factor here.
    Thanks for all the help folks. Hopefully I won't need to come here again.
    Best wishes
    John Burton (Netherlands)

  • Packager for iPhone and AudioSubscriber

    Hi,
    I wrote code which connects to session and subscribe the sound:
    var auth:AdobeHSAuthenticator = new AdobeHSAuthenticator();
    auth.userName="xxx";
    var session:ConnectSession = new ConnectSession();
    session.roomURL="https://connectnow.acrobat.com/xxx/room/";
    session.authenticator=auth;
    session.login();
    var asub:AudioSubscriber = new AudioSubscriber();
    asub.connectSession = session;
    asub.subscribe();
    When I run it on the computer with AIR its work fine, But when I run it on the iPhone I can't hear the sound.
    Why?
    Thanks,
    Eyal.

    Now, that Apple is accepting the iPhone packager, I tried the same code and I still can not hear some sound.
    I can see my shared webcam (amazing man!) but I can not hear my shared mic.
    Adobe Connect that uses iPhone packager can do that.
    Does anyone know what could be?
    My code:
                   //Audio Subscriber
                   this.audioSubscriber = new AudioSubscriber();
                   this.audioSubscriber.connectSession = this.connectSession;
                   this.audioSubscriber.subscribe();
    Thanks.

  • The packager for iphone is slow !!!solution!!!

    i've build a couple of apps ,, at first i thought my computer is running slow and that's why the apps are running slow on my iphone
    but then  saw everyone is actually complaining through out the internet
    We need a soultion to this problem
    i think we need some one from adobe to come up and say something
    i've wasted a lot of money on adobe products (i'm ready to sue)
    does adobe care????????

    I had the same issue with slow builds for Ad hoc and App Store builds.  Before when I would compile, it would estimate 5 min to complete the precess, count down to 0 and then display 5 min remaining forever.  It took me a while to realize it was still compiling and not just frozen.  Anyway, I let it one evening and found out it took like an hour to publish.
    The info from jendabek was very helpful.  The updates to the code are painless.
    Here's what I did.
    1) I double checked that I wasn't importing any classes I didn't need.
    instead of...
         import flash.events.*
    for example I'd do this...
         import flash.events.MouseEvent;
         import flash.events.Event;
         import flash.events.TimerEvent;
    2) I double checked that I defined the variable types when I defined them.
    These 2 things alone had drastic results when compiling.
    When I went to compile this time I had a time estimate of 26 min.  It finished in under 5min.  These 2 steps took my compile time down from Over an hour to under 5 min.  It makes a difference.
    Thanks

  • Apple protecton package for iphone 3gs

    anyone buy this ( I think its 69 dollars on apple.com or you can even buy it at walmart ) does it cover your phone if you drop it ? Is it worth buying?
    thanks!!

    I always buy Applecare for my Apple products.
    It is worth it to me. I have no idea if it is worth it to you.
    It extends the one year warranty to two and gives two years of support via telephone (compared to 90 days standard)
    No, it does not cover damage that you do to the iphone. It is not insurance. You can look this up yourself.

  • 5 Easy steps to get your iPhone Application Uploaded to iTunes via the Flash Packager for iPhone

    1. Go to the iOS Provisioning Portal and setup your Distribution Certificate & Distribution Provisioning Profile (this is Distribution NOT Developer so make sure you select the other tab).
    2. Generate a .p12 Certificate from the Distribution Certificate (the .mobileprovision is fine how it is).
    3. Within the Flash IDE select your Distribution Certificate & Distribution Provisioning Profile to be used then make sure you select under iPhone deployment type, Deployment - Apple App Store. Generate your .ipa file.
    4. Transfer your .ipa file to a Apple Mac Computer, rename the .ipa file to .zip file extension, then extract the .zip file it will output a folder called Payload open it and within that folder will be a file with the same name as your Application. Right click and select Compress.
    5. Now open up Application Loader and your good to go!
    Ok well not so easy ...
