Is Pcounter still part of NetWare/OES

I have been trying to find/read up on this. Does Novell still include
"pcounter" or the same functionality in NW6.5/OES? Is there a replacement?
If so, what is it and where can I get documentation?

Novell doesn't make PCounter - AND Technologies does, www.pcounter.com.
Novell does not and never did have this functionality. There is NO
indication from Novell that they will provide this capability in any
product for any platform. Even worse they are not providing the
information (sdk, api, doc, etc.) for ISV's to fill this gap on
OES2/Linux. I highly recommend that you do all of the following:
1. Submit an enhancement request via Novell's online web form.
2. Contact your Novell representative (salescritter) and ask for this
product...or if it not available you will have to look to other (M$)
solutions.
3. Contact Dr. Jeff Jaffe, Novells CTO. He has a blog. Check out the entry
from Nov 5 and the comments that follow it.
4. Open an Incident with Novell Tech Support. Since they won't be able to
resolve it you won't be billed.
Maybe if enough of us raise the issue Novell might actually take notice
and do something about it. My preference would be that they publish an
accounting api for iPrint on Linux just as they have with NetWare. Or they
buy AND Tech and integrate into Linux.

Correct, if you've got the Photography Plan or the Cloud Complete Plan.

Is PREVIEW still part of Mountain Lion

I may be wrong, but it looks as if Apple has abandoned PREVIEW in Mountain Lion. If so, what replaces it? If not, how do I acces it? I can get to the PREVIEW menu, but it's grayed-out. In other places, the screen says something like, "The Classic version is no longer available".

Apple calls it an update; I call it a major overhaul. Judging by the changes that were reported, I had expected the "updates" to be completed in a minute or so, but the whole process must have taken 30 to 40 minutes. I just wonder why I wasn't advised about the update as soon as it became available. Anyway, it's done now, so I'd like to thank each of you. Funny thing, though, when I check "About this Mac," it still only says, OS 10.8.5. You'd think that with all of the changes, that it would at least mention (COMBO).
Just thought I'd mention that I updated it by using the software update button in "About this Mac".

Is Rosetta still part of Mac OSX post Leopard?

The reason I ask is that I have a number of PPC only games (Myst games mostly) that I understand will only run on my Intel iMac (Mac OS 10.5.2) under Rosetta.

FYI, you'll want to copy over your existing installs of all games if possible. Don't try to reinstall them onto the Intel machine. (Unfortunately, the Myst III installer is still OS 9 only.)

Is Bridge still part of PSE 9 for Macs ?

I love Bridge - and I miss it in the PC version of PSE 8. Funny that the PC version of PS CS5 has Bridge.
Now I see that Organizer is included in the Mac version of PSE 9 --- does that mean that Bridge is gone ???? Hope not !!!!

I probably will keep my classroom computers at PSE 8 - and have to give up getting content-aware fill on those machines. Too bad !
Sometimes Adobe can be really dumb ! Bridge is a major part of PS CS4 and CS5 for me on my studio Mac Pros ..... and I liked having it on the PSE 8 in my classroom.

I have found that with the Audit COBIT principals and GRC enabling toolsets the "TODAY" authorization administrator gets sucked into enhancing applications for business, implementing projects, re-design old authorization strategies and then of course entertaining the ex and internal auditor on a half yearly basis and donu2019t get stuck into what we learnt for the past couple of years u201CThis of implementing sufficient controls to secure company datau201D. The crits of my story is that the more the authorization administrator gets tasked with continues audits and ongoing enhancements and support the less time are spent to understand what they securing u201C Monkey told monkey do !!u201D
.I have seen out of experience that when new products such as GRC get launched companies move unskilled authorizations administrators into this area and then expect them to implement and get stuck into detail with auditors and audit reports to clean-up historically raised auditing finding. The same resources then get used on parallel running SAP projects (re-implementations) through out their landscape and GRC gets rushed or pushed to the side. I have noticed that SAP Custom Development has always been and continued growing to become the biggest risk in organizations as developer create creative code that exclude authorization checks (Jump systems, post on behalf u2026).
Nifty ABAPERS slip code into production that allow them and other authorized users to execute functionality without relevant authorization.... functional teams continue to changing SAP and apply custom functionality to facilitate business in their growing demand on business continuity. Functional and authorization don't collaborate due to tight deadlines and the RISK continues to grow.

I use snow leopard and considering upgrading to mountain lion. Does it include front row?

Further research on Forum suggests there is a way to get Front Row back into Mountain Lion, do you know if this facility is sound.

Is Media Encoder still part of Design Premium in CS5.5

I'm considering placing a pre-order to upgrade to CS5.5 Design Premium (from CS5) but it looks like Media Encoder might not be included this time. Can someone confirm whether or not it will be included as it was in CS5, and CS4 before that?
I realise I can switch from Design Premium to Web Premium but then I would lose InDesign:(

So I'm now wondering how to use the Adobe online store. Is it perhaps closed for the Easter break?
I elected to place a pre-order for Design Preium CS5.5 (upgrade from Design Premium CS5). I chose Add to cart and proceeded to checkout, only to find a screen which is largely blank but a little checkout panel at the upper right telling me that my cart is empty. No fields to enter credit card or shipping details at all.
I'm based in New Zealand, and I do understand the stores are regionally based. The price was quoted in Australian dollars and that's OK. but the system appears to be broken!
Last time, I bought my upgrade from a local retailer. Maybe I'll just have to wait and do that again, but if anyone can explain how to use the online store that would be great.

OSX 10.6.2 and Novell Netware eDirectory 8.8 SP5

Ok, forgive the long winded post - but I thought some background would be in order. Briefly, the problem we have is:
We create a new user in eDirectory, extended them with apple-user,
add apple-user-homeDirectory of:
/Network/Servers/<ip of server>/SERVER.VOLUME/HomeDirectory
and an apple-user-homeurl of:
afp://<ip of server>/SERVER.VOLUME/HomeDirectory
AFP works fine, I can manually mount this volume with login / password in OSX with Command-K
LDAP authentication works great.
After login, no home directory is mounted or exists, so we get an error (login still occurs).
Now, if I change the apple-user-homeurl to:
<home_dir><url>afp://<ip of server>/SERVER.VOL</url><path>HomeDirectory</path></home_dir> (this is how an X Serve stores this value in Open Directory) and attempt to login, login fails "because an 'error' occurred"
If I check the console / system logs on the OSX client, I see:
authorizationhost[455]: afp home directory mount failed in theEnumerator->Count in AFP_OpenSession: status = Unknown error: -5023
Now, for the weird part, if I change apple-user-homeurl on the user back to:
afp://<ip of server>/SERVER.VOLUME/HomeDirectory - login then works fine and their home directory is created and they are able to use the Mac normally.
Any ideas? I will post this to Apple forums as well. If I get any answers I will cross-post them.

New Netware 6.5SP8 server / eDirectory 8.8 SP5 / latest NMAS
Latest Novell AFP FTF patch from mid Sept 2009
Edirectory schema extended and LDAP mappings made with documentation I pieced together on the web. If I browse via ldap, I am seeing proper returns for all the objects I need to login.
Mount object created in Edirectory for the AFP mount corresponding to users home directories.
OSX test client is Snow Leopard 10.6.2 (patched this morning, clean install)
Authentication works fine, client works fine once I do the switcheroo with the apple-user-homeurl as indicated above, AFP mounts work fine in OSX, no weird errors in NMAS/LDAP dstrace, AFPTCP.log etc
By the way, if anyone else is trying to figure this out, my LDIF and my LDAP template may be of use:

The LDIF is the Apple schema you apply to your eDirectory to support OS X computers. The template is used by the Directory Utility on OSX for mapping eDirectory values to their OSX values. It's taken me about two weeks of work off and on to get a working set of these, hope they save someone else some time!
Thanks to whoever wrote the "Integrating Mac OS X and Novell eDirectory" document - it was a great help, as is Randy Saek's posts here and his written document "Mac OS X and Novell eDirectory integration" - with these documents and numerous posts on Novell's forums, I've almost got this working well (these documents are available all over the web, but if you can't find them, let me know and I'll put them on my webserver)

A long winded post deserves a long winded reply! Are you serving the home directories from Novell's AFP file server? If not -- if you're serving them from a Mac server -- then nevermind all this.
If so, you may need to create a generic mount object in your eDirectory tree (not an AppleShare object -- I've never been able to get that working)
Get Properties of the mount object and, under the "Other" tab (I'm assuming you're using ConslowOne) add the following attributes: values (or whatever variations of them are appropriate for you)
apple-mountDirectory: /Network/Servers
apple-mountOption: net
apple-mountOption: url==afp://;AUTH=NO%20USER%[email protected]/staff-network-drive
(yes, apple-mountOption gets two values! i just wrote the attribute twice for clarity)
apple-mountType: url
Once I had this in place I still had to do some fiddling with how to specify the home directory for each user. I settled on
OSX Home: /Network/Servers/10.9.7.11/student-network-drive/Users/stevejobs
(you would put this in apple-user-homeDirectory, not OSX Home. We just mapped things a little differently.)
apple-user-homeurl: <homedir><url>afp://10.9.7.11/student-network-drive</url><path>Users/stevejobs</path> </homedir>
Note how we have Users/stevejobs in the path section. This is different than how Workgroup Manager will save it, even though it will appear to be the same path if you look at it in WGM (thanks, apple.) Unfortunately the way WGM saves it doesn't work (at least, I couldn't get it to) so you can't use WGM to assign this attribute. I ended up writing a shell script to do it.
Hope that helps. If you want the shell script, I can probably dig it up but make sure you know what you're doing with it. It is tailored to our system and I didn't bother writing any exception handling, so it could very well nuke your system, call you names and eat your dog.

Netware migration consolidation

I am starting to look at my options and I need some advice / guidance. We
have been using iprint on Netware since 5.0. I have 27 schools each with its
own server / broker / manager. Last summer all links were upgraded to gig
fiber from 50mb wireless. So connectivity is excellent. over time all that
is left that Netware is serving is print / authentication / DNS and DHCP. we
are looking at ways to consolidate all of this back to the data center to
help minimize hardware in the schools. It seems that everyone is moving to
the appliance. Is this the only option now? Is iprint no longer supported on
OES?
Second question. Currently each school has their own iprint page with just
their printers. If I consolidate all the printers (about 700) to an
appliance or 2 how would I continue to serve only the printers for each
school and not have them now see all 700 on the ipp page?

iPrint is and will still be supported on OES but most new features are
put into the appliance, like the mobile printing stuff so I would
recommend going with the appliance..
You could use the iPrint Map Creation tool for example to create a
customized webpage for your printers:

Yep, but you don't need to create the maps, it can be a simple html page with some links.. There are som examples that you can view.

Is Flash Catalyst 5.5 still a viable product?

I did not see a Catalyst 6 in the Creative Cloud apps. I have it on my machine and was wondering if it is still part of the workflow or a viable app. Or, should I dump it? Thaks, Jay

As long as browsers still use Flash, feel free to create content for it by whatever means you deem suitable. Development of FC itself has stopped. It's all HTML (5) and Edge now....

You will have to be on SAP BW 7.01 (SAP NetWeaver 7.0 EHP1) and SAP Business Objects Enterprise XI 3.x in order to integrate and requires the SAP Integration Kit for SAP Business Objects Enterprise.
Dashboard Builder, while still part of the BOE suite, is somewhat being replaced by Xcelsius which is again a different tool and different licensing.

Tiger partly freezes while connect to internet by Wifi for extended time

Every once in a while when I am surfing the net using my Wifi connection the OS partly freezes. I am not sure if it is the OS or my Wifi connection? Safari suddenly does not load the page, I can still access menus but I cannot quit Safari. Tiger is also still partly working. I can still minimize windows, click on icons in the Dock, access the dock. But the Dock icons will only bounce when clicked, it will not open the program. Any program will can be forced quit, but icon will still have the arrow beneath the closed program, but the program seems to have quit. I can use the finder's menu bar too but once I click on the airport radar symbol I get the spinning beach ball and then I only have access to the apple menu. Force quit does nothing and choosing restart or shut down will only bring the system to the blue screen with the spinning pinwheel constantly turning.
The only way to get the system going again is to hold down the power button or a hard reset (ctrlapplepower button).

I had the same problem for a couple of months and could not figure out what was happening. This would occur every couple of days and forced me to reboot via the power button. Initially I thought it was my router or network card in my mac, but I have a second machine in the house and its internet connection was not affected.
I then had a look in the console to see if any messages were written to the logs to give me a clue as to what was happening. The freezing on my Mac was quite severe when this was happening as I connect to a Network (NAS) drive and this would freeze the finder completely.
Anyhow, I lucked out one day and managed to pick up some data from the log file that read like this:
"Sep 11 16:05:10 configd[37]: DHCP en2: INIT transmit failed
Sep 11 16:05:18 configd[37]: bootpsessiontransmit: bpf_write(en2) failed: No buffer space available (55)"
I did a Google search on it and it turns out that this was related to the Bluetooth Network support (Bluetooth PAN) that was added in 10.4.9.
I went to my network port configurations, unchecked and removed Bluetooth PAN from the list of options. Since then the network freezes have stopped!
I hope this sorts your problem out.
