Mike, I have only tried it in a clean virtual machine, so I can't talk about beta 4, but you may want to try rebooting and also cleaning out the c:\Program Files\Adobe\Lightroom directory as well as the hidden directory under c:\users\<your name>\Application Date\Adobe\Lightroom Daveyr, I see the same performance issues. The metadata one seems directly tied to the length of the metadata list you choose to work with, in that using "All" is significantly slower than using "Quick Describe". I've improved things by creating my own metadata field list following the examples on Sid's web site (www.lightroomextra.com) and it seems to help. Sid, thank you *very* much for posting those examples. The standard panels seem to be a a bit off in V1 to me, since the metadata browser can display city/state/country, but the only way to edit these fields is using the "All" panel. My custom one essentially adds these to "Default", giving me a much more focussed list. I'll send it to you for your site later today if I can.

I have a file that I posted online in PDF form that is 40 MB in size. this is about 35 MB larger than I wouls like it to be. I have gotten the file size down to about 40MB from it's original size of 50MB using acrobats optimize feature but after playing with it about 12 different times with different checks checked and unchecked that is the smallest I can get it down too.
Is there something else I can do to make it smaller or something I am missing?

Have you when running optimizer from advanced menu, checked the font's.
I received a PDF recently over 120mb that had multiple Duplicates
example:
Couier new
Couier new
Courier new
Bold Courier new
Bold Couier new
And so on. After I removed all but one copy of each font instances, the file went down to 5 mb which was quite managable and with modern internet connection can be sent relaitively easy. In some cases there were to copies of the exact same font in my file.
Check to see how many duplicated fonts you have, and remove all but one instances each, of the different font and styles (example bold, Italic are a different variation) and one copy each should be kept.
If however the file is Graphical file (not text but say a scan of a File) then this won't help there is nothing to reduce it other than change perhaps the resolution to a lower amount. if scanned at 600dpi most people at least all but print press, can't tell the difference between 600 and 300dpi And for general correspondence you can get away with 150dpi though it may begin to look fuzzy.

Windows 7 - Driver Availability Chart For Creative Products is nearly useless

This appear to be revamped Vista drivers that are not usable for W7 RTM. MS made changes to W7 where most Vista drivers do not work properly any more.
When I try to install the drivers through the installer I get the incompatibility error and the installer quits, then I get the failed install pop-up for W7.
What I would like to know is when Creative plans on releasing drivers that work with W7 RTM? Llinking drivers that worked for W7 RC is not helping and really should be removed.
I have used Creative sound cards since just before the SB6 came out. I have been a loyal Creative customer from early on. But if Creative can not deali'ver a fully working driver suit for my sound card by the end of the month (November) I would appreciate knowing so I can start looking for another a replacement, which won't be a Creative product.
Even though my last 3 MBs have had good built-in sound, I have went out and bought Creative sound cards because I wanted the best, which Creative has previously provided.
I need to upgrade my MB so I have put of buying a new sound card until I do. But if I'm forced to buy a new sound card because Creative says it will provide drivers that work with W7 RTM and for what ever reason can not do so, I will not be buying another Creative product.
I maintain 4 PCs of my own so that will be 4 cards bought from a competitor since Creative has completely dropped the ball. All major component manufacturers have been able to release stable drivers at the same time as W7 RTM release , or within days after release. Why hasn't Creative been able to do so? Creative was able to release suitable drivers for RC in a timely fashion, what happened with W7 RTM? Did they recently fire all the programs and techs?
Please do not link useless info. Please find out what is going on and tell the powers-that-be at Creative they have some really upset customers and ask them to tell us what is happening here. Tell them we would like to know when Creative plans on releasing drivers for W7 RTM so we can make the decision to wait it out or buy replacements.

Again, yes Device Manager has no problem detecting the card and W7 has no problem loading the default Window drivers for it.
Since I had to replace my TV Tuner Card, I used Device Manager to remove it and my Audigy card and then shut the PC down. My new TV Tuner Card is a PCI-E x so I installed it in an open slot and move the Audigy to the PCI slot where the old TV Tuner Card was.
When I started my PC again, W7 detected the Audigy card and loaded the defeult drivers. I again tried to use the installer and had the same error.
The sound works, but I only have basic Windows functions/controls.
It is most definately not a hardware issue.
The online auto update detects it, just the installer does not detect it.
I am currently awaiting a response from CS now. Of course the problem there is that you have to wait/respond, wait/respond, wait/respond just to cover the same ground that has been gone over a hundrd times already.
I put every step I have done in the email. As usual, it was a waste to type because you are asked questions already answered and to preform steps already done.
It would be nice if CS would realize that some of us are only contacting CS because we have already done all the standard steps without success and now need to move onto the advanced ste

Satellite A205 will not boot after Pixela ImageMixer 3 install

I've had my Satellite (A205 S5804) for a year and a half, and it's been great...until last night. I purchased a Canon camcorder, and went to install the Pixela ImageMixer 3. After following the on-screen install instructions, it recommended I do a reboot. The pc shut down, restarted, and then went into this never-ending spiral of "system recovery diagnostics". I ran the utility, and it can't correct itself (I think something in the registry may have gotten damaged/overwritten during the install??). Safe mode won't work. Nothing works.
I can get to a DOS prompt, which takes me to "X:\~~~" and I don't know what the "X" drive is supposed to represent. I'm cursing myself now for not making a system recovery disk. I have files I'd like to try to get off of here before I do something drastic like a full-blown reformat of the HD.
Is there anything I can do to get past this system recovery loop? Am I going to have to reformat and start over?

Ok, I have looked everywhere, and am pretty certain I do not have a system recovery disk for my Toshiba. However, I did find a few other disks - can you tell me, will a system recovery disk for a slightly older Satellite work? We have another Toshiba Satellite (I think it's an M or N series) that was purchased a few months before this one. Or do I need to have a disk for my exact model? Also, how do I identify a local ASP? I purchased my machine at Best Buy, and they were quick to say they don't have recovery disks and I'd need to call Toshiba. Toshiba told me it'd be up to 10 biz days, and I'm hoping to not have to wait that long...

I searched the site and it seems that only FrameMaker 9 is available as a demo download. Is the last version available anywhere else? I emailed the webmasters but they haven't gotten back to me.

I was quite surprised to find a version of 8 available on the Adobe download web page yesterday (08/03/09) -- there's a notice saying that it's there for existing customers who had trouble upgrading to SP3. I have no idea what that means, or what is actually in the download (rolled up patches, some kind of SP3 fix, working OLE.... who knows?), but it is online and available for download.

You may want to consider using another browser if 2.0.0.20 does not work for your email. You could try using Safari for your email. If your profile is correct you're already on the final version of Snow Leopard (10.6.8). Sure it wasn't Lion it was asking for?
If that's the only version available on the app store, you'll need to source a copy of the iWork '09 DVD - not cheap now - only available via Amazon or eBay etc.
