Is PLM related to CATIA designing course?

Hi,
One of my friends is working on CAD/CAM/CATIA/PRO E. Heard that SAP PLM module is suitable for the candidates with the above designing courses. And he is Diploma graduate.
Is this true?
what are the pre requisites to learn PLM module?
Please guide.

Root relative images and design view

I have many sites that have root relative image paths
(src="\images\sample.gif") that I've coded by hand in DW8.
I don't use design view that much, buy one of our designers
does. The problem is none of the images with root-relative paths
will appear in design view.
I have specified valid paths in my site definitions, so
what's the issue?

Hard to say - perhaps the developer's site is not properly
defined. There
should be no issue displaying root relative linked images in
DW's Design
view, since DW knows where the root of the site is. What is
in the HTTP
address field of the local site definition?

Performance related issues in design studio 1.2

Hi All,
Is there any best practices guide for development purpose in design studio?
I am facing performance issues when I increase the count of data sources (alias in my case) in my application merely from 2 to 3.
There is a considerable time lag in launching the application both locally and on the BI server.
My application is on HANA analytic views and going by its performance it should be fast.
Each and every data source I created contains not more that 1 or 2 dimensions and a single measure.
I am not able to understand why it is happening. Is it preferred to bring in all the data as one big data source? But in that case there is a limitation in selecting specific dimensions and measures for different components. Tool forces us to incorporate multiple data source alias!
Any views will be highly appreciated.

Have you tried using background processing when adding the 3rd data source? See How to set up Background Processing in Design Studio
Design Studio 1.3 is coming out in Q2 2014 where planned HANA native connectivity is coming - see Figure 2 BI2014 Design Studio 1.3 Planned Updates | SCN > sounds like that might help performance.

Design Course or Tutorial

I feel that some dashboards could be more "visual" and nice with other colors or changing the position or the structure of the components but I could not find best practices or a good manuals which help me with that. I know that you can solve this issue building more and more dashboard but with some guidelies it could easier, so anyone knows any website which cover this issue? It could perfect something focused on Xcelsius.

Did you already get to know the new Xcelsius SP3 component Sparklines? Well that is based on Edward Tufte's work on the design of graphical information. Remember the bullet chart component? That is based on Stephen Few's work.
Do a search in the internet on dashboard design, you will find interesting stuff, but I would definitively recommend you to get the book of Stephen Few.

How to set Delete Rule to SET NULL while designing relational model .

Dear All,
Am new to SQL Developer Data Modeler and was doing some relational and logical design using Data modeler and i want to generate DDL script, while doing i was struck up with this issue.
I have two table and tried to give Primary key and Foreign key relationship, in foreign key table i want to set the Delete rule has SET NULL, but it is not found. I have other three options like CASCADE, RESTRICT,NO ACTION. Whereas in logical design i can find SET NULL, NO ACTION and RESTRICT....
But the DDL script is getting generated based on Relational design , i want to set foreign key has SET NULL in delete rule how to accomplish that?
Please help me......

Hi Ramkumar,
If you unset the Mandatory property on the Foreign Key, you should then be able to set the Delete Rule to SET NULL.

Cube/Fact Design

I am trying to build facts/dimensions relating to university enrollment. I have designed dimensions for student info, course info and section info. I was trying to load actual enrollment data in to the fact table. I added a measure for grades, but when I load that particular measure, the fact table doesn't seem to have enough information to associate the grade with the student/class. I believe my fact table is designed wrong. Does anyone have information on what data should be loaded there in this context?
Additionally, when I try to build a mapping to the fact table, I can only move data in to the measures (not the foreign keys) which makes sense, however, it is only through the FKs that the data can match up with the proper student, etc...
Any help or advice is strongly appreciated.

First requirement to build a fact table with dimensions is indeed to be able to relate the source of the fact records with the tables that build up the dimensions. Would there not be information somewhere (perhaps in other tables, another system or even flat files) that relates student IDs with courses? I would imagine that is the very least you can expect...

Disable Print from menu/toolbar from Designer 7

Hello,
I have a form that contains a print button, which is only executed if all validation rules are executed successfully. However, I still have the Print function in the menu and the toolbar of Acrobat/Reader. In the forum I found an entry stating that you should check out the AcrobatJS Guide and try hideMenuItem(). It seems that I could use this function also in Designer, but I get a 'NotAllowedError' when I try to call it. The Guide says that for security reasons you can only use this function in application initialization or console events. Any idea where I can find these events in Designer 7? Or does anyone know the related function in Designer 7? Or is it not possible to do this with Designer?
I was also thinking if I could change the menu item, so that it takes my validation beforehand. I tried to put this in the prePrint event. Which really called my validation, however it still printed it afterwards. Any idea how I can stop the printing on failure of the validation?

you don't happen to have a sample or something? I tried to implement the hideMenuItem like it is described in the Acrobat scripting reference, but I still got the 'NotAllowedError'. I really find it confusing because some things of the Acrobat scripting is also working in Designer, others are not. Do you know if there is a documentation about this, like which Acrobat function can be used in Designer, which not, and which Acrobat function is named different in Designer, etc.?

mx:Image no image preview in Design Mode

Inside my Flash Builder (4.01) AIR project, the image preview in design mode for the mx:Image component does not show the image set with the source attribute.
This seems to be a project specific problem. When I create a new project , insert mx:image and set the source to an image, the image is previewed just fine. I also get a possible related error saying : "Design mode could not load swiz-framework-1.0.0-RC1.swc. It may be incompatible with this SDK, or invalid. (DesignAssetLoader.CompleteTimeout)"
This error pops up in several google searches and is by some regarded as an sdk bug, so I dont know the relevance here.
This happens in various flavours of the Flex SDK (4.0/4.1 latest versions).

Ok, I found out it has definitively something to do with the "Design mode could not load swiz-framework-1.0.0-RC1.swc. It may be incompatible with this SDK, or invalid. (DesignAssetLoader.CompleteTimeout)" warning. This somehow affects the loading of the mx:Image.
Recompiling the SWC might work with the swiz swc, but there are more swc's giving this error like the google maps swc which does not have the source avalable freely.
This is a real pain as I like to use a mockup image in Design Mode to place components exactly as provided by the design team.

Graphic Design training for authors?

Hello, I have no experience or skill in graphic design but I
could really do with being able to create simple graphics to
enhance my manuals. Does anyone know of any courses in the UK that
might be suitable? I don't really want to embark on a full-on
graphic design course as it's not really what I need. Just wondered

Engineer between Logical Model and Relational Model

I am trying to update changes from one model to the other but there are dublicate entries generated instead of updates.
The Logical Model was imported from Oracle Designer, the Relational Model was imported from data dictionary.
Our rule is, that the name of Entities/Tables and Attribute/Columns are identical.
So I changed the Naming Standard of the Logical Model in Preferences
from Separator = Space to Separator = Character with char = Underline.
If the entity is not existing, it is created with the correct name.
If the entity exists, a new entity is created with Namev1.
The same happens when I try to update changes in the other direction.
How can I achieve that the existing entity (or table) is updated and not a new one is created?
Or in other words, is there a way to link entities to corresponding tables?

Hi Walter,
The Logical Model was imported from Oracle Designer, the Relational Model was imported from data dictionaryit's good to import entities and related tables from Designer repository together. Data Modeler will import the link between them and use that link in synchronization between logical and relational model. After that you can import details for physical model from database.
If you don't have tables in Designer repository and keep the same names for entities, attributes, tables and columns then you can engineer logical model to relational and import details from database.

Sorry, we didn't realise it was no longer there, so thanks for alerting us to the fact. We must have let it slip when
updating OTN with the latest releases. We have now reinstated this. You should have visibility of this tomorrow or early next week.
Please note, you need to select the latest Designer 6i release and step through the agreement document to get the upgrade CD.
However, it is also worth noting that this is still available though http://Metalink.oracle.com.
You'll find it under Patches. Take a look at the Designer 6i patches, you should see a patch# 2093669 ID# 1142617. This is it!

Handling address related information for different countries

Hi,
We are trying to understand the best way to display / query address related information (while designing internationalization for our application) - from users based on their locale - for example we would need to ask zip code - if the user is in US, in UK it would be postal code , there would be counties in UK but not in India etc . Is there some guideline / frame work for designing address related forms for international applications?

The problem is that you need different pieces of information for different countries, and they need to be in a different order. Some information is required for some countries, some information does not exist for some countries, and the content for certain pieces of information is different for some countries.
If you are not going to do any kind of verification of the information (zip code, for instance), and also not check whether the field is filled in at all, then it doesn't matter if you have separate fields.
There are 3 choices:
1. Implement correct addresses for every single country in the world
2. Implement correct addresses for a few select countries, and then state clearly that you only support those countries
3. Treat an address as a single piece of information
Good luck with #1.
