Is possible to assign picture in paragraph style or create bullet?

I need to  assign Illustrator picture (B&W) before text. Is this possible? Or exist way, how to create from this pictue bullet?
Thanks

Jean-Claude is right. IndyFont is a great option for this job. That way you can just use a bulleted paragraph style. Here's a post and video on the topic:
http://indesignsecrets.com/creating-a-custom-bullet-or-character-with-indyfont.php
Or you could do a Find/Change to replace bullets which have been converted to regular text with the graphic. Copy the graphic and in the Change To field, select Clipboard Contents.

  • Is it possible to set up a Paragraph Style leaving the Font Style field blank?

We often have to import text into InDesign from Word docs. We place the docs (Command-D, rather than copying and pasting) in order to preserve italics, bold text, etc. As it is now, we have to select all the text and set each element separately - leaving the Font Style field blank - in the Character Palette.
It would save a lot of time, if we could set up a Paragraph Style without specifying the Font Style, (leaving it blank), which overrides the formatting we are trying to preserve. Is this possible?

The answer is "kind of". You can create the Paragraph Style you want to apply and select the paragraphs you want to apply it to - then right-click on the Paragraph Style and choose 'Apply "Body". Clear Character Styles.'
It is possible to do this as a Character Style if you click outside of a text area and create a new style. I do it all of the time as I import lots of Word documents to write to ePub (you have to define all of the styles to ensure the document looks right). Since the documents come in with small caps, bold, italics, different font sizes but the same font throughout.
So I have a style based on None with blank Font Size and Font Style which I apply to the whole document. If there is anything in these boxes you can just erase it by backspacing over the text.

  • Apply character or paragraph styles to notes and to do's in Mail ?

    Is it possible to:
apply character or paragraph styles to notes and to do's in Mail ?
    ALSO:
I would like to change things like-
change the color of the default yellow notebook like ruled paper?
apple character or paragraph styles to notes and to do's?
Main calender for item related Dates
The red icon next to the to-do items
    number of columns
    Hold/Insert/Link/Attach additional relevant files?
Similair to other third party project organizational software such as OmniPlan / Schoolhouse/ KIT (Keep it Together)
I was also thinking the ability to apply my mail rules to them would further their efficiency. Does anyone know if this is possible?

In the preferences menu, under "composing" There is an option for "Create Notes & To Do's in:" With the options being "On My Mac" and "[email protected]".
I did not have this set properly, and changing it meant that selecting text in a note and making a to do gave me the option of putting it in my local calendars.
However, when I select text from an e-mail it still puts it in my "[email protected]" calendar.
Partial fix --> Still not exactly what I want to see.

  • Different paragraph styles within a text thread

Does anybody know if it's possible to apply a different paragraph style to each text box in a text thread? I have three boxes: the first and the last have a small font and I'd like the middle one to have a larger font size.
If it's not possible, is there an alternative way to do this?
    Thanks,
    Nacho

Offhand i'd say that what Nacho wants to do will entail having separate text boxes...
Seems to me that what he's doing is having the text flow from one box to another (column?). Obviously, changing / editing content will cause the text to shift its position.
Nacho, i think you'll have to do one of the following:
1/ Manually adjust the font style for the box you want each time you mke a correction
    or
2/ Set up different, independent boxes (text areas) and style the box the way you want. Obviously changing text will mean changes in the area used by that box...
Maybe someone else here can help out with a better suggestion...

  • Framemaker 8 problem with paragraph styles

    Hi,
I manage a documentation (one file) including paragraph styles organized like that :
    -- Chapter
         |--- Sub chapter
           |--- Sub Sub chapter
    My question is simple
When a create a PDF file from my document, including bookmarks, I'm encountering the following problem :
The "chapter 4", "sub chapter 4" and "sub sub chapter 4" paragraphs are created correctly. The bookmarks are created with the correct place.
    Like that :
    |---- chapter 4
      |---- sub chapter 4
       |----- sub sub chapter 4
    BUT
The "sub sub chapter "5 paragraph styles are created into the "Chapter 4" structure, added with the "sub sub chapter" of Chapter 4. And the Chapter 5 just contains the "chapter 5" and "sub chapter 5" bookmarks.
    Like that :
    Chapter 4
        |---- sub chapter 4
           |---- sub sub chapter 4
           |---- sub sub chapter 5
    Chapter 5
       |--- sub chapter 5
After checking the structure of my document, I do not find any thing which could create this problem.
The paragraph styles seems to be correct.
Thank you so so much to help me because I don't know how to replace the "sub sub chapter 5" below the" sub chapter 5".
    Phil ;o)

There are a few ways to go with this. One is to put all the files in a Book,
temporarily, and set the one with the correct style definition as the
source, then synchronize the paragraph styles. This will change ALL styles
with the same names throughout all the documents, and add any styles that
are present in the source, but not in one of the other files, so it is a bit
risky, especially if any styles are based on or [Basic
Paragraph] itself is used in one of the files and it isn't already defined
exactly the same in all files.
You can also open any file and go to the Paragraph Styles panel menu and
choose Load Styles, then select the style you want to load, and how to
handle a conflict (Use Incoming), which will give you more control over what
    happens.
Or each time you open a file and get the missing font warning you can go to
Find Font and select the missing font, then pcik your substitute, check the
redefine styles box, and click Change All. This would probably be the best
choice since it doesn't depend on style names to make the correct changes.

  • Problem:  Photoshop CS6 applies two paragraph styles when one is selected

    Hi everyone,
When I change the heading title within my text box, I select the heading and then select the appropriate style.  Instead of just changing the heading, the body text changes as well.  Is there a setting that's causing this to happen?
Thanks so much for your help!

First Bug: Simply having a layer selected (even a text layer) and then clicking the "Create New Paragraph Style" will create a generic style (with default settings). You have to tell Photoshop what settings it is that you want to create a style with. Simply double-click the text layer icon (not the layer name or the blank area around it) and this will open the text layer for editing and select the text. Now when you click the "Create New Paragraph Style" button, the settings of the selected text will be made into a style. This is how they are performing the step in the video as well, but from your description it sounds like you are skipping a step. And remember, there are two different ways of creating text: single click the Text tool to create line (character) text, click and drag a text box to create paragraph text. That is why we have both Character Styles and Paragraph Styles.
Second Bug: The Paragraph Style is applying with your text transformations calculated. So, if you create a text style that uses a 24 pt font, then you create text and transform it so that it 200% larger, when you apply the style you will end up with a font that is at 48 pts. A 50% transformation will result in a 12 pt font, etc.
Third Bug: Not sure why that is happening to you. My Mac uses half as much RAM and doesn't run into that problem. My guess is it would have to do with the fonts you have installed on the system. Do you still see this behavior if you disable all the fonts on your system (through Font Book or your favored font managment utility)? Your suggestion that it may have something to do with Fonnnnt Shop or WebInk may be true to. Just because they aren't open currently doesn't mean they haven't modified Photoshop and the way it runs.

  • Import ID tagged text file results in paragraph style overrides

I have been working on a project that requires the import of a large amount of information from a database. I have defined all the paragraph styles in InDesign and have a program to apply the paragraph style to the database information creating the InDesign Tagged Text file. When I place it into my document the paragraph styles are recognized but there is an override. If I clear the override, the text looks fine. I have an example document that I have exported and imported some text to rule out the program, but even in this case, an override occurs. Text is there, the paragraph format is there, but font size (for example) is wrong. Where should I be looking to correct this issue?
    Harold

I don't recognize any of those being wrong, per se. I have the file on another computer, so I mocked up yet another one. Sorry
Again in this one I did ASCII export, no fancy characters. And this one demonstrates the problem, too. I have two kinds of paragraphs. A big one and a small one. I create those paragraph styles. I select the only two lines in the file. Export and then bring them in underneath themselves to compare.
The paragraph styles for the newly Placed paragraphs are gone. The font color is the same. But the font size and font have not changed.
I manually edited the IDTT and removed the <Japanese feature> tag. Placed it again. Font color is the same, but the size and font are wrong.
In other words, my problem is that ID does not seem to apply the paragraph style to the text when it is imported. Aren't the font size and font defined in the Paragraph Style?
My end goal is to define some paragraph styles and create the IDTT automatically from a database. My hope was that the paragraphs would be formated properly based on the predefined styles when the IDTT comes in. I cannot get it to do this even for a pared down example. Aren't other users doing this?
Here is the IDTT on pastebin (with the <Japanese...> tag removed)
    http://pastebin.com/Vdc6NVDV
And what it looks like after the intial Place with <Japanese...> tag in, edited line from Small to "Deleted Japanese feature...", removed tag from IDTT and then did another Place.

  • Paragraph style including anchored frame possible?

    Hi,
I'm working on a new template and can't get a specific paragraph style to work correctly.
The page layout is a 1/3 to 2/3 page column layout. The 1/3 page column is called a "Marginalia"- column in German, sorry don't know the term in English. All graphics are in the 1/3 page column, while the text belonging to it is in the 2/3 page column. I need a paragraph style that contains an anchored frame as a placeholder for future graphics in the 1/3 page column and its corresponding text in the 2/3 page column.
I've set up the page with only one text frame which is the width of the 2/3 page. The left margin of the this text frame is the left margin of the running text. All graphics are placed to the right of it.
Can anyone tell me if this is possible and how to best go creating such a paragraph style?
    THANKS!

Paragraph styles don't include an anchored frame attribute. You can include an anchored frame in any paragraph (though off the top of my head I don't know a way to insert one automatically -- perhaps it would be scriptable), and you can assign an object style to the anchored frame that contains all the positioning information as well as any text styling or graphic fitting information you might want to use.

  • Is it possible to have an anchored object linked to a paragraph style?

I want to link an anchored object to a paragraph style, so that whenever a paragraph that has a particular style is created, an anchored object is created at the same time. The particular application is to label the associate text with the anchored object. is this possible?

Here an example for a GREP search/replace:
Search for the beginning of every paragraph + the first character:
    ^(.)
Replace with the formatted contents of the clipboard + the found character:
    ~C$1

  • Drop Shadow possible within a paragraph style?

I have a table and on a certain row I have a style that requires a dropdown. I have made a paragraph style that has everything perfect but I can't find the drop shadow option there. Is it possible to include drop shadow effects as a style?

    I've found this frustrating too.
The way I get around it is as follows:
1: Create a Text Frame and type the text to be shadowed.
2: Select the Text Frame and choose Window > Effects.
3: Expand the Object list and select just the text in the list.
4: Click the fx dropdown and apply any effects you want to associate with the text.
5: Feel free to save this as an Object Style to use again.
Now the the part that will have old-school QuarkXpressers squirming...
6: Select the whole text frame, choose Edit > Cut.
7: ... and paste it into another text frame as an Anchored Object.
8: You can then create a Paragraph Style to control the position/placement of the Anchored object.
9: ... and even add some Text Wrap and offset to your Object Style.
I know it is a filthy workaround, but it is the only way I can find to achieve the required result.
Please, Adobe, can we have effect styles that can be applied as part of Paragraph Styles. I mean, there's a precedent : Character styles as part of Paragraph Styles, Table Styles containing Cell Styles that contain Paragraph Styles that could ostensibly contain Nested Styles.....

  • Keyboard shortcuts for functions inside paragraph styles panel possible?

I would like to assign keyboard shortcuts for functions inide the paragraph styles panel in PS CS6.
It seems that no option to do this  is exposed - ist this correct?

That's an interesting approach and it made me aware about menu item insertation - but unfortunately none of the suggested works.
Clear overrides when executed by button can work both on selections of text and on complete text blocks, the recorded version of
pressing the button disregards that there's a selection and therefore only works globally. The menu insertation method can not deal
with existing selections either - it's entry is greyed out in the actions panel when portions of the text are selected.

  • Assign paragraph-styles to xml-tags correctly. How to?

    Hi,
I want to assign xml-tags to existing paragraph styles in InDesign CS6 on a Mac 10.6.8. The xml itself is organized like this:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="yes"?>
    <katalog>
    <artikel id="32434">
    <img href="/bilder/32434.tiff" />
    <artikeltextgruppe>
    <artikelmarke>DieselGabana</artikelmarke>
    <artikelheadline>Jeans ist super</artikelheadline>
    <artikeltext>Superjeans knallt rein.</artikeltext><artikelnummer>70238</artikelnummer>
    <artikelmaterial>100% Jeans</artikelmaterial>
    <artikelgroesse>Uni</artikelgroesse>
    <artikelfarbe>Uni</artikelfarbe>
    </artikeltextgruppe>
    </artikel>
    </katalog>
By selecting the option "Assign formats per name to the tags" (translated from German) I wanted to generate the desired look. But if I start this all I get is the whole textblock of <artikeltextgruppe> assigned to 1 formatstyle. And besides that the whole content of <artikeltextgruppe> looks like one single paragraph without any structure (no linebreaks) The content though is correctly structured because I can highlight the value of e.g. <artikelmarke>separately by doubleclicking this tag in the structure-view.
    a) What can I do to assign the formats correctly AND to have correct linebreaks?
    b) If I drag my node <img href="/bilder/32434.tiff" /> iin the layout I get a message displayed to search again for the correct reference location. And that happens independently on using relative or absolute references (Although I need to use relative ones) What can I do here?
    thanks so much

First, I would probably do a search and replace to remove the group element using a text editor (the <artikeltextgruppe> and </artikeltextgruppe> elements). They really are not needed.
Second, I usually create my styles with the same names as the elements themselves. Then, after the XML is imported, I use the "map tags to styles" command from the Structure pane.
I copied and pasted the single artikel element to create 4 records, added a varition of an image to each element record. Once the paragraph styles were mapped, your XML looked like this in a two column format (to get all 4 records on a page)...
By default, ID will create a single line to a single line in the XML. So if you desire elements to be on their own line, the XML needs to be formatted that way. If you need different styling within a paragraph, you need to create character styles and alter the elements within an XML group and or paragraph and add the code in the XML accordingly or post process once inside of ID.
I always need to take the XML I am given and reformat, move elements with the tree, change links to images, remove tabs and or spaces where I do not want them, tag for character styles, etc., to get close to how I want the initial format to be.
    Mike
