Is Premiere Elements 8 organizer compatible with HDC-SD1 files?

This is one of the original AVCHD camcorders.  I have the trial installed of Premiere Elements8.  When I load in the organizer, it opens up.  I click file>get videos from files/folders.  The importing seems to take "forever" - 15 short clips (<1-2 mins each). Then, the organizer becomes unresponsive after loading just 15 or so clips. The clips are AVCHD, 1440x1080.  The organizer doesn't even seem to realize that they are anamorphic HD and the thumbnals are displayed in a 4:3 aspect ratio and hence the thumbnails are squished horizontally. Computer is C2D, 2.66GHz, 4 GB RAM, so that shouldn't be the bottleneck for the organizer.
Any thoughts or is this standard behavior?

Another suggestion was to update Quicktime.  While I don't think that QT is the issue (QT doesn't read AVCHD files as far as I know). I don't want to update as my current NLE has an issue with some files with the latest version of QT and I would rather not play around with something that is working.
This is probably a total aside, but might furnish a bit of background. PrE seems to rely more heavily on QT Player, than other NLE programs, even its "big-brother," PrPro, which does not rely on it at all. I do not know what processes in PrE are QT-reliant.
Now, as to "latest versions," there are two warnings. It seems that some recent versions of QT Player (7.6.2 & 7.6.3) have been causing issues with many Adobe programs. The same thing happened with the 7.4.x versions (maybe not all, but at least two), about a year ago. From my readings, the 7.3.5 was previously the "last known good," until the 7.5.5 version was released. Those two seem to work almost perfectly with Adobe apps. The others seem to be hit-or-miss. Until 7.5.5, the 7.3.5 was the only version that would work for me, and I have tons of Adobe programs. Now, 7.5.5 is the version on all of my computers, and I will not upgrade, until I read reports of another good version on the various Adobe fora. Right now, PrE 4 works fine with QT 7.5.5 on my laptop.
Just some observations on QT Player, Adobe programs in general, and PrE specifically.
Good luck, and please update the thread with your success.

I have Premiere Elements 10 on Windows 8.1 64 bit, and it runs well there.
But, I must disagree with SG when he writes
It will likely run. But it will not be able to take advantage of Windows 8's advanced architecture (including the 64-bit operating system and ability to access more than 4 gigs of RAM).
You can prove to yourself that Premiere Elements 10 is a 64 bit application running on Windows 8 64 bit. To do this use the Process Explorer Sysinternals and add a Image Type Column readout. When you do this for Premiere Elements 10, 11, or 12 on Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 64 bit, the readout tells you that you are working with a 64 bit version.
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896653.aspx
And, as a 64 bit application, Premiere Elements 10, 11, or 12 Windows should be able to take full advantage of the 64 bit system when Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 64 bit.
I suspect SG is thinking Mac not Windows in his comment. It is my recollection that Premiere Elements 10 Mac is still a 32 bit application on 64 bit system. And, you are using Windows, not Mac.
We will watch for his clarification on this point or for support for what he posted as is.

  • Is Photoshop elements 10 and Premiere elements 10 compatible with windows 8.1?

Is photoshop elements 10 and premiere elements 10 compatible with windows 8.1?  I am upgrading from XP and am trying to determine if I should go to 8.1 or windows 7?

Photoshop Elements 10 and Premiere Elements 10 are compatible with Windows 8 or 8.1 64 bit. I have them installed on those operating systems and no problems. My video card is Intel HD Graphics.
But, a major question is what video card will be used? There is a major issue with Premiere Elements 10 users whose computers use a NVIDIA GeForce video card. It is fixed by rolling back the driver to about May 2013. This is a user to user fix. Neither NVIDIA nor Adobe has offered one. • Is Adobe Premiere Elements 10 compatible with OS X Yosemite?

I have Adobe Premiere Elements 10 that I use on my IMAC.  I recently updated my operating system to OS X Yosemite and when I go to use the add menus portion of the the program it consistently crashes.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled Adobe Premiere Elements 10 and it still crashes when trying to add disc menu's to my movie?  Is Adobe Premiere Elements 10 not compatible with OS X Yosemite?  Do I need to upgrade my version of Adobe Premiere Elements for the program to work? I am strictly an Elements Windows person and do not have a Mac computer to road test this one. I do remember that question being asked before. My recollection is that Premiere Elements 10 is, but it a recollection which I would need to research. Most of the threads with that question can be found unanswered.
Does Premiere Elements 10 run on Yosemite?
Most of the "Elements" discussions with information revolve around Photoshop Elements Mac and Yosemite.
Are you running the program as Administrator and do you have the latest version of QuickTime installed on your computer? Is it only disc menus that bring the project down? Is it all disc menus or just one or two that are involved in the issue?
But, first I would ask "What video card/graphics card are your computer use?" Therein may be the problem if the card is a NVIDIA GeForce one.
You could try delete the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file which I believe can be found in Mac

  • Is Premiere Elements 10 Compatible with Mac OS X  v.10.7.3?

I am looking to use a sony Cybershot 16.2 Megapixel HD digital camera to make some in-house videos and thout that this would be some great starter video software, but I want to make sure that it will be compatible with my system.
    Any feedback is appreciated!

Premiere Elements is absolutely compatible with OSX Lion.
If your camera is able to shoot in 1080i AVCHD video, make sure that when you start up your Premiere Elements project you select the correct project settings for this video format. Parts 1 and 2 of my free 8 part Basic Training tutorials show you how to correctly set up a project and get media into it.

  • Is Premiere Elements 11 compatible with Blackmagic Intensity Shuttle USB 3.0 ?

I have an Intensity Shuttle from Blackmagic to Capture  Video and  Audio through USB 3.0
Is this divice compatible with Premiere Elements 11 ?
    Thank you for your help

Looking at the Blackmagic Intensity Web site for host program interaction, I only see PrPro, and not PrE. Sometimes, that does not mean that PrE cannot use a device, but often it does. http://www.blackmagicdesign.com/products/intensity/software/
I would contact Blackmagic and inquire.
I see that the card/device includes Blackmagic's Media Express, so it might be a simple workaround - Capture in Media Express, then Import that/those file(s) into PrE.
    Please report BM's response.

  • Is Premiere elements 10 compatible with Windows 8 professional

Hi. I am currently running Photoshop elements 10 and Premiere elements 10 (64Bit) on a Windows 7 Home Premium machine. The Hardware specs are pretty good, with a I7 2.5 processor, 8GB RAM, 2GB dedicated video card etc.
I was planning to upgrade myself to Windows 8 Professional using the $14 offer... however, need to know for sure that these 2 software work with Windows 8 and there are no issues.
Is there anyone here, who has tried to run these 2 software on Windows 8, and if so, what has been your experience. Are there any issues, or any performance lags?
I am pretty sure I do not want to pay the additional dollars to upgrade to version 11, so all responses will be very helpful indeed.
    Thanks in advance.

If the program is running great on Windows 7, you should have no problems when you upgrade to Windows 8 -- assuming you're not going from a 32-bit to 64-bit operating system or something else that might affect how the drivers perform.

    Thank you for the reply.
Some Premiere Elements 12 users have reported a problem where the project losses its audio from numbered Audio Track and Soundtrack when a narration clip is created by the program's Narration Tool and is in the Narration Track.
ATR Premiere Elements Troubleshooting: PE12: Audio Losses After Narration Addition
Please read the details and the LLamadude 99 solution to determine if that problem (or a variation of it) applies to your situation.
To be saved for later, if necessary.....
For the moment we will put aside the questions that are defying translation. But, you really do need to make sure that you are setting up the project correctly to get a good start in the project, aside from the audio issue.
When you open a new project, a project preset (project settings) need to be set to match the properties of your source file.
The properties of your source file would include: video compression, audio compression, frame size, frame rate, interlaced or progressive, file extension, pixel aspect ratio. The project preset is important because it instructs the program what space to give you in the Edit area monitor for editing purchases.
In Premiere Elements 11 and 12, the program takes charge in setting the project preset for you automatically based on the properties of the first file dragged to the Timeline. Sometimes the program does that task OK. Sometimes not. For the not times, then you set the project preset manually before you import your source files.
ATR Premiere Elements Troubleshooting: PE11: Accuracy of Automatic Project Preset (New Project Dialog) Setting
    Back to the audio issue....
Please create your narration (as .wav file) in Audacity Audacity: Free Audio Editor and Recorder and then import it into Premiere Elements 12 project using Premiere Elements 12 Add Media/Files and Folders/Project Assets from where you drag the narration to the Narration Track. Then determine if the problems still exist or are gone.
We will be watching for your progress.
    Thank for the follow up.

  • Background Task on Adobe Photoshop Elements and Adobe Premiere Elements Organizer "hangs"

I recently upgraded my software from Elements 10 to Elements 12 and had a bit of trouble.  Apparently both 10 and 12 have a way of launching an executable in the background which tends to get "stuck" on my system.  I believe the problem may be related to the network configuration and software mix I live with, but I need to confirm my suspecions and find a way to control the problem.  Here is what I know... I have always experienced a lot of problems using Elements with my NAS device which is a 1TB usb 2.0 connected disk system attached to my Linksys  E3000 Router.  When I got the router, the BIOS software did not correctly support NTFS file systems, but subsequent updates eventually made this possible if you formatted the removable drive on a system in NTFS, you could then hang it on the router and "see" the contents, serve them via Windows Media Player, or iTunes, etc., etc. from a computer atteched to the network, or via wirless directly off the router.  I archived all my photos out on this file system and have successfully indexed it for use with Adobe Photoshop Elements and Adobe Premiere Elements Organizer, but...  When I went to install Elements 12 software I tried to install it without first removing Elements 10, and on a system which had run Elements 10 since the last full reoboot.  During the install of 12 under "shared services install" the installation process "Hung" on a background task with a name like "AdobeElementsAnalyzer.exe" which only shows up in Windows 7 task manager as a running process, not as a full program, but because the file was locked by the system, the install hung.  I eventually figured out that I needed to start the install of Elements 12 software immediately after having rebooted so that this program was not present in the background, and succeeded in completing an install of Elements 12 on my Windows 7 X64 system.  This system required a "special" software download for Premiere Elements, but not for Photoshop Elements which is only apparently avaliable under 32bit emulation mode.  I finally got the "shared components" portion of the X64 Premiere Elements to complete an install, and then set about verifying the onversion/upgrade of the indexes to my photos and video stored out on the NAS.  The same rogue task which prevented me from doing the install showed up agian, taking all the system resources away from my dual processor Intel chip and refusing to let go.   I was forced to terminate it from the task manager.  I strongly suspect that my "issues" are in part due to the extrordinary network latency imposed by the drive connection I'm using to index my photos and videos, and I'm looking for a better approach to using the editors against my master catalog of files, as well as figruing out just what I need to do to insure that all the files I have stored on the drive are accessible by the organizer when I need to pull a copy to work on.
A complication is that I have two "legacy" Windows XP systems on my network, a reasonably fast Windows Vista Business desktop, and the Windows 7 X64 processor system which is the most powerful system I have.  The Windows file security enhancements to NTFS changed from XP, to Vista, to Windows 7, so files which get saved to the NAS disk inherit a variety of different levels of security under windows.  I have occasionally gone to one of my old XP boxes and "wiped" the security settings by resetting everything via Windows XP.  Because the NAS is so slow, this process can take several hours and must not be interrupted by attempts to do anything affecting the NAS by any of my other networked computers.  To avoid problems with my photo archive, it makes sense to me to do all my editing on copies which have been extracted from the NAS archive and stored on the C: drive (boot drive) of my Win X64 system.
What I seriously need to know is this:  When/If I define a "watched" portion of my file system, rather than taking the time to manually import every little change to my photo archives, can I expect the Photoshop Elements Organizer to work properly as long as everything stored on the NAS is stored via the same system which runs Elements with the same active "user" in control so that all the windows 7 file security settings putting stuff on the mapped NAS drive remain properly secured under Win 7 X64?  Frankly I don't care if the files appear "read only" to every other system and identity on my network, but I do need to be able to "see" them.  I have been able to view slide shows and movies stored on the NAS via both my networked iPad, my Apple TV, and using Samsung's funky android and Windows compatible software.  Frankly, I doubt that Microsoft or Apple has full understanding and control of the environment where there is no host "server" other than the eprom based stuff my Linksys E3000 loads to emulate early Windows Media Management architecture, but I mange to get it to work as long as I don't try anything sophisticated with the file permissions.   As a fall back, can I expect individual "imported" bits out on the NAS to remain stable if indexed and used only by the Elements Organizer running on my Win 7 X64 system?
I am seriously considering converting an old WinXP desktop into a UNIX box which could be configured as a "Server" for everything stored on the NAS and be done with my problems in return for the power required to run the server all the time so stuff is there when I need it.  Any recommendations?

Adobe hasn't said whether it officially supports PSE 7 on Windows 7.  But reports are starting to trickle in that PSE 7 works fine on Windows 7 for most people, though a couple people have reported crashes. My PSE 7 seems to work fine, though I primarily use PSE 8 now.  This is all very preliminary, and we'll learn more as more people post here.

Hello, I’m using Mac Mini 1.66GHz Intel Core Duo with Mac OSX 10.6.8 Snow Leopard.  When I try to install Adobe Photoshop Elements 11 I receive this error message:  “Some errors occurred during installation. Adobe  Elements 11 can be installed on 64-bit systems only.”  Here is the question: is Photoshop Elements 11 compatible with my computer and operating system? I guess my computer runs at 32-bit. Why do I receive that error message when I try to instal the Trial version of the software? I have read that Photoshop Elements 11 is compatible with both 32-bit and 64-bit systems. Thank you.

    On prodesigntools.com

they say Photoshop Elements 11 running native in 32-bit:
Photoshop & Premiere Elements 11 will run well on 32-bit or 64-bit systems, and are designed for Windows XP, Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8, or Mac OS v10.6 through v10.8 (see the full system requirements for PSE 11 on Windows/Mac; and PRE 11 on Windows/Mac).
Premiere Elements 11 comes with a native 64-bit version for higher performance – in other words, the PRE Editor now runs native on both 32-bit and 64-bit operating systems.
Photoshop Elements 11 continues as before, running native in 32-bit and compatibly on 64-bit systems.

The answer, aborwick, is no, according to Adobe. The company line is that Win8 requires PSE version 11.
Brett N's link leads you to that conclusion with a very nice chart but links come and go as IT managers come and go LOL hence the plain english response here for future posterity. I suspect you might finagle a way to install it but then will find it crippled in some way(s).
Speaking of which, it is my understanding that Adobe Photoshop Elements / Premiere 11 dropped support for a whole BUNCH of file formats* so make sure your files are supported before upgrading!! My last Corel image software update obsoleted over 250,000 images (because they were in a proprietary Corel format which Corel dropped support for and refused to provide any conversion whatsoever) which is why no Corel product will ever be seen on any computer of mine again. Caveat emptor!
Always amuses me (except when I am the asker of the question of course) how far around mulberry bush folks go instead of just answering the question. LoL
