Is profimail the only program to read HTML emails?

Hi all,
Is profimail (www.lonelycatgames.com/?app=profimail) the only program to read HTML emails?
Overall I think it’s a good program and I wouldn’t mind paying to buy it. However, it feels very weird that not even top-notch and expensive mobiles like the E71 can read HTML emails without additional software! Plus, I’d like to consider alternatives before making up my mind and buying profimail. As much as I don’t like HTML emails, I receive plenty, which are almost unreadable and impossible to decipher if opened as text emails.
I think the main disadvantages of profimail vs the integrated email client, Nokia email (email.nokia.com) or whatever your operator provided (e.g. ‘email on 3’ provided by www.seven.com)are:
- Price (profimail is not hugely expensive but not free)
- Battery life: if used in imap idle mode, it drains the battery more than the alternatives outlined above
- Not perfect integration with Symbian: you’ll see a small box on the homescreen with the number of unread messages, but you won’t be able to show the headers in the home screen. Not ideal but bearable; after all, it’s exactly what happens with sms messages
And the advantages are:
- Ability to read HTML email
- True, instant delivery of emails if used in imap idle mode (it reconnects automatically if it loses the connection).
My experience with Nokia email and email on 3 used on the 3 UK network is that emails are delivered with delays, sometimes very considerable ones. My understanding is that these systems work by sending some sort of ‘silent sms’ which prompts the mobile to connect to the server and retrieve new mail only when needed. The bottleneck is that the silent sms doesn’t always arrive instantly, for reasons I fail to understand (network congestion maybe?). This was a great disappointment because I previously had a E61 with Blackberry connect which was great: emails did arrive instantly

I will assume you're using Windows Vista-7:
Try these steps instead:
1 Click start, and in the start menu search, type "cmd" (without the quotes) DO NOT PRESS ENTER!
2. Right click the "cmd" search result
3. Click "Run as Administrator"
4. If you get a pop up message, click yes or continue
5. Type the command in the window as you did above.
In an effort to try to prevent programs from messing with your computer, programs don't run under your administrator account unless you tell them to or they ask. This gives the Administrator (elevated) privelleges that you need.

Lightroom is the only program that will run

So, i recently downloaded after effects, premiere pro, photoshop, speed grade and lightroom from the adobe cloud. All the new adobe software is install onto a different drive than i used in the past. Whenever i start up an adobe product it will start up then about 2 seconds after its close it will close out. No message and no error, it just closes. The only program that does work is lightroom. Any explanation for this or is anything that i can do?

By "different drive than you used" do you mean you did not install to the default C drive locations?
I have read other messages that trying to install to anything other than the boot-C drive causes problems

My imessage won't rotate anymore. It's the only program that won't.

Try this - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)

Suddenly the only way to read my mail (Gmail account) is by pressing "reply" or "forward". With my other account I can simply open new mail and read it. How come?

This happened when I restarted my computer. I did not update Firefox. The other way of reading mail is to open it via "message carbled"

Cannot read HTML email on iPhone

This just started happening today. When I try to open an HTML email message, I get an error message which says 'This message cannot be displayed because of the way it is formatted. Ask the sender to send it again using a different format or email program' This happens with all HTML emails. I know it is not a problem with the message itself, because I have previously viewed these emails without any problems. I am using a .Mac email account. Any suggestions?

I've just seen this very problem today. In my case, the symptom exists with a single (same) email on both my iPod touch and my iPhone 3g... The email displays correcly, without error, on MobileMe and any email client (save the Apple handheld ones). The error message is precisely, in large font:
"This message cannot be displayed because of the way it is formatted. Ask the sender to send it again using a different format or email program. multipart/alternative"
...Followed by the often seen:
"This message is only partially downloaded."
I'm not using MS Exchange, but Apple Mail 3.0, and trying to download the remaining email portion doesn't change the symptom. Resetting the iPhone/touch also doesn't help.
As an aside, it's one of those throw away emails (multiple forward urban legend-type) that we all get and invariably trash.
I may have seen this before on the single isolated email and deleted without much thought. But I've never seen this affect all my emails, like MattDB is seeing...
I'd love to know the cause...

I need my java program to read HTML tags from the browser...

so, i've made this java GUI, which can run from my internet explorer toolbar...
as of now, this program doesn't do anything, it just produces an interface with blank fields
i want these fields to automatically add information about the current web page on the browser... basically, is there any way that my java program can automatically read the HTML source of the web page opened? i just need it to be able to capture the page's URL and title.
i programmed it using NetBeans, and it runs from the .jre file outside of NetBeans. I got an icon for it to appear on my IE toolbar by editing my computer's registry. When I click on this icon, my GUI runs, but doesn't do anything. Can I get it to read (i.e. automatically output on one of the textfields on my GUI) the URL and title of the webpage that i'm currently on? I want this to work like Bookmarks/Favourites does, so that means i don't want to download every single webpage before reading from it.

I think that if you wanted to do this, it would involve something like the following:
Have your toolbar GUI listen on a local port
Set IE to proxy to localhost at that port
Tunnel/proxy all requests. This will allow you to intercept the page source and the original request. Between the request URL, the request payload, the HTTP headers of request and response and the response payload, that's everything the browser would 'see'. The downside of the above is that you cannot intercept SSL (HTTPS) requests. You might be able to use the Windows/IE API (native) to fetch page source, but this would definitely be an application and O/S specific solution.

Hi, I could not work out a way other than creating a DataObject to specify html markup in certain attributes, for example the tip attribute.
Is there any other way?

I think there's three things going on here. First, you do not need to put these HTML
strings in DataObjects. You're probably forgetting to escape the strings - uiXML is XML,
and you've got to follow the rules of XML. For example, the following is illegal XML,
not because of anything in UIX, but because it's invalid XML:

<messageTextInput tip="<html><b>foo</b></html>" ../>From Java, you only have to follow the Java escaping rules (like \" and \\),
which is why your code only seems to work when you're grabbing the string from
a DataObject.
OK - second thing. There is a new <formattedText> element, and if you want to insert
HTML markup, you can replace a <styledText> with a <formattedText> and it'll do the job.
And - third thing. The "tip" and "message" attributes in UIX contain automatic
support for HTML markup. But you have to let us know when you're using HTML markup,
and the way you do that is by surrounding the string in <html>...</html> - or,
once escaped for XML, <html>...</html>

MY MBP close session without any warning, is AC power and the only programs running usually are skype and safari

MY MBP is stand alone only with skype or safari running usually, suddenly close the session and i must reentry the password and start the session again, by the way any information unsaved is a completed lossl. The last year i changed the board in regard to the intel graphics card problem, but this problem is new from 1 o 2 monhs ago.
Some help is valuable.

Problem 1: Sounds like a bad adapter or bad DC-in card, or possibly a bad connection between the adapter and the card, or between the card and the rest of the computer's innards. Clean the contacts in the adapter plug and on the MBP and make sure they are securely and squarely connected. If that doesn't help, test using a different, known-good AC adapter. If that works fine, replace your adapter.
Problem 2: Run the Apple Hardware Test that you'll find (with instructions for using it) on one of the DVDs that came with your MBP. Look for an error report with "SNS" in it, indicating a faulty temperature sensor. When there's a bad sensor, the fan(s) operate at full blast all the time.
You could also just take the machine right back to where it was repaired and point out the problems that didn't exist before, but you will be better-prepared to do so if you've done this testing first.

What is the best program language for mass email (PHP, ASP, Coldfusion)?

I want to be able to send mass email (from a SQL db) with
stability and reliability.
I've used Coldfusion for some time (CFmail tag) and have not
been impressed.
It seems, at times, it has a mind of it's own, and is a
little unreliable, especially
when sending hundreds of emails at one shot. I'm not dogg'n
Codfusion,
that's what I program in, I just am looking for a method that
I can build on.
My question is this: What is the best and most reliable
coding when sending mass email?
Is it PHP, ASP, XML, Coldfusion....what?
You would think there has to be an optimum option out
there...right?

Remeber
that CF itself doesn't send the mail so you're dependent upon
the speed

You don't have to remove Homepage Sites just to host
iWeb Sites.
They can even work together (from your iDisk) to
share pages or files.
The easiest method would be to remove the Homepage
files (Sites, Movies and Picture folder files) that
are used by Homepage from your iDisk.
Once deleted your pages are gone from the Web.
Dear Quicktime Kirk, I want all my files and bundles to be in the same place, and with iWeb, that means on my Desktop (although I could put backups on my iDisk, I know.) So, if I understand you correctly, then if I delete the Sites, Movies, and Picture folder files that are u sed by Homepage from my iDisk, then my old .Mac Homepage website will GONE, right?
Well, actually, wouldn't it be a good idea to just delete the whole shebang? Because everything (or almost everything) has been copied already.

Where do the replaced programs go?

recently, i have been finding that when i update my prograpms, more space is taken up on the hard drive. when you update the programs to the newer versions, where does the old version go? does it get stored in the computer somewhere where it takes up unneccesary space on the hard drive? if so, how do i locate them and should i delete them?

This varies by program and program updater. Some programs will only get updated if they are in the same folder as the were originally installed in. Others will install a newer version only in the Applications folder. It is suggested to avoid having multiple versions of the same program on your computer that you archive or backup your old programs away if you have need to keep an older program that is the only program able to open an older document type, but not keep the full older version on your hard disk without archiving it away with control-mouse click on the program itself or keeping its original installer program. Don't move the application once you have installed it somewhere. If you need to be able to manage programs from a very busy Applications folders, use the File menu command to make alias and move your aliases into subfolders of your home folder that you create for managing those applications. You can also of course add that application to the Dock or sidebar for purpose of having a shortcut.

Screen has little boxes all over, uninstalled and reinstalled but boxes are still there. This is only program with this problem.

When I opened Firefox this A.M the screen came up with little boxes, in columns, covering the whole screen. Four of the columns are colored in like a cash register tape that is running out of paper. I uninstalled Firefox and reinstalled it with no change. This is the only program on this computer that this is happening with. Please advise.

This can be a problem with the font that is used to display the text.
You can use this extension to see which fonts are used for text that is selected (right-click context menu: Show fonts in selection).

You can do a font test to see if you can identify corrupted font(s).

You can try different default fonts and temporarily disable website fonts to test the selected default font.
