Is PTP certified to work with RAC?

Hi guys,
We are standing up a new large server farm and many of the non-database servers have a need to use PTP (Precision Time Protocol) as their time service due to their need for high precision time synchronization. We would like to use the same time service on all the servers - database and non-database. Does anyone know if PTP is certified with Oracle RAC 11g R2?
Thanks ahead.

If you need high precision time, don't use CTSS (Cluster Time Synchronization Service) because Oracle takes one host as Master and sync all hosts using "Master" host. If the time of Master is wrong...you will create a mess up.
We would like to use the same time service on all the servers - database and non-database. Does anyone know if PTP is certified with Oracle RAC 11g R2? The Tech Note ID 1054006.1 on MOS says:
CTSSD Runs in Observer Mode Even Though No Time Sync Software is Running [ID 1054006.1]
NTP or some other time sync service is configured but not running. The install, CVU, and CTSSD check for the following :
•     There is only one and only one time synchronization service running at a time.
•     The time sync service can be a vendor service (NTP, Windows Time Service, etc...) or CTSS.
•     If vendor time service is configured, it needs to be correctly configured AND active.
•     For CTSS to be in active mode, a vendor time service must not be running, and must not be configured (correctly or otherwise). This is important. CTSS is conservative and will switch to OBSERVER mode the moment it discovers that a vendor service is running or configured on even one node in the cluster. This is to prevent multiple active time sync services running on the cluster, potentially changing clocks.
Oracle says NTP or some other time sync service, but to ensure whether PTP is certified or not, you need to contact Oracle Support.
I believe it has no problems using PTP, but I not found about PTP on Oracle Support.

    Apparently the Help feature in Visio 2007 needs to access the Internet in order to work.  I need to know if Internet Explorer 9 and/or 10 certified to work with Visio 2007.  Thank you.

    Hi,
    Yes, Visio requires Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5 or a later version. Please see the article:

  • My iPhone cable gave me a warning this morning that it was  not certified to work with this phone, but it is the cable that came with the phone and that i have been using for a year and a half.  Why?

    i plugged in my 18 month old iPhone to charge it, using the cable that came with it and that I have used regularly all along. I got a warning on my phone screen saying the cable is not certified and may not work properly with my iPhone.  Why?

    If you updated iPhone to iOS7, it now checks for real Apple Lightning Cable. Your cable may not be Apple, or someone swapped another cable with yours. Make sure the cable end is clean, take a clean dry toothbrush and carefully clean charging port on the iPhone.

  • Oracle Applications 11i Load Balancing does not work with RAC one Node

    Hi all,
    Could you help me to resolve this issue.
    Architecture environment is :
    - One APPS tier node
    - Two nodes Oracle Database Appliance (Primary node 1 holds INSTANCE_1 et Secondary node is configurured to holds INSTANCE_2), i.e RAC one Node.
    - The primary node have instance_name SIGM_1 and the secondary node have instance_name SIGM_2, but in RAC one node, the secondary instance is not alive.
    We convert our EBS 11i environment to RAC following note ID Using Oracle 11g Release 2 Real Application Clusters with Oracle E-Business Suite Release 11i [ID 823586.1].
    When testing Database failover, Oracle Applications 11i load balancing does not work anymore.
    The root cause is that, when the primary node of the Rac one node is down, the INSTANCE_NAME_1 is automaically relocating to the surviving node,.
    During test failover, we imagine that when the primary node goes down, the secondary node start or relocate database with instance_name SIGM_2, and in that case the Oracle Applications load balancing works.
    Currently, when the primary node goes down, the instance_name SIGM_1 is relocated on the secondary node, which cause failure of Oracle Applications Load Balancing.
    Thank you for your advice.

    This is something I observed a long time ago for Safari (ie: around version 1). I'm not sure this is Safari, per se, but OpenSSL that is responsible for the behavior. I'm pretty sure Chrome does this and I've seen some Linux browsers do it.
    What I have done at the last two companies I've worked for is recommend that our clients do not use SSL SessionID as the way of tracking sticky sessions on web servers, but instead using IP address. This works in nearly all cases and has few downsides. The other solution is to use some sort of session sharing on your web servers to mitigate the issue (which also means that your web servers aren't a point of failure for your users' sessions). (One of the products I supported had no session information stored on the web servers, so we could safely round-robin requests, the other product could be implemented with a Session State Server... but in most cases we just used IP address to load balance with). The other solution is to configure your load balancer to terminate the SSL tunnel. You get some other benefits from this, such as allowing your load balancer to reduce the number of actual connections to the web servers. I've seen many devices setup this way.
    One thing to consider through this is that - due to the way internet standards work - this really can't be termed a bug on anyone's part. There is no guarantee in the SSL/TLS standards that a client will return the same SSL Session ID for each request and there is not requirement that subsequent requests will even use the same tunnel. Remember, HTTP is a stateless protocol. Each request is considered a new request by the web server and everything else is just trickery to try and get it to work the way you want. You can be annoyed at Safari's behavior, but it's been this way for over 5 years by my count, so I don't expect it to change.

  • Jdbc 9.2 work with RAC database

    Dear Sirs,
    I notice that jdbc 9.2 support the use of service name in the connection string, i.e : host:port_no:service_name, prior to 9.2, sid must be used to make the connection.
    Question
    1. After using jdbc 9.2 with service name, can it be benefit from the load-balancing and failover feature of 9i RAC database ?
    2. Does jdbc 9.2 compatible with Oracle 817 database ?
    Thanks

    I am having a number of problems using JDBC 9.2 with Oracle Server 8.17. Specifically it is not recognizing existing column names and applying un-related constraints when attempting to access tables. It appears to function correctly when using Oracle Server 9.0.1. Is anyone having similar problems?

  • OpenScript 9.2.1.0 not working with Firefox

    Hi folks,
    i'm using OpenScript 9.2.1.0 and Firefox 3.6.16. When i try to record a new functional test my browser opens but not communicates with OpenScript. OpenScript waits until timeout.
    The installation of OpenScript was successful and i have the firefox OATS plugin running.
    I could record tests using Internet Explorer, but that is not enough for my project.
    Is this version of Firefox is not certified to work with OpenScript?

    I have two suggestions from the diagnosis tool so i changed the XSS configuration to disabled in the internet zone for IE8, but i think this is not correlated with my error in firefox.
    I also followed the steps from [http://www.java.com/en/download/help/proxy_setup.xml] and my java proxy configuration was the same from the browser already.
    What else could i do?

  • BRM installation failing with RAC (pin_setup.values)

    Hello,
    i'm currently trying to install BRM using a RAC 11gR2 database, i've already configured a localservice pointing to the scan listener, tested it using tnsping as well as sqlplus was able to connect in both cases, however when i try to run the pin_setup script it fails as it can't connect to MAIN_DB which I have configured as follows
    $MAIN_DB{'vendor'} = "oracle";
    $MAIN_DB{'alias'} = "rac";
    $MAIN_DB{'user'} = "pin";
    $MAIN_DB{'password'} = "&aes|03|0D5E11BFDD97D2769D9B0DBFBD1BBF7EC34E38A57801EE7CDF27D885C3EF9FFAFA";
    $MAIN_DB{'Database'} = "RAC"; #"pindb";
    $MAIN_DB{'Host'} = "clusterscan.eg.oracle.com";#"$HOSTNAME";
    $MAIN_DB{'version'} = "11g";
    $MAIN_DB{'tables_group'} = "dbmt7t_pin";
    $MAIN_DB{'indexes_group'} = "dbmt7t_pinx";
    $MAIN_DB{'storage_model'} = "Small";
    $MAIN_DB{'system_user'} = "system";
    $MAIN_DB{'system_password'} = "&aes|00|0D5E11BFDD97D2769D9B0DBFBD1BBF7E7212D39DFC91E91640DCF63ABD0BCFC66B";
    The question here is how to configure pin_setup.values for rac? i wonder if any body has an example of a working pin_Setup.values file that actually works with RAC?

    Solution: (search in support.oracle.com). It worked!
    This solution action plan applies to the shell csh, but very similar steps can be taken for other types of shells:
    echo $SHELL
    /usr/bin/csh
    identify the $ORACLE_HOME directory
    echo $ORACLE_HOME
    set the following environment variable according to the $ORACLE_HOME directory, as described in the product installation documentation:
    setenv PATH .......
    setenv LD_LIBRARY_PATH ......
    make sure that
    the $ORACLE_HOME/lib is included in $LD_LIBRARY_PATH
    the $ORACLE_HOME/bin is included in $PATH

  • Which version of Oracle 9i is better to work with 9iAS R2 ?

    Can Anyone tell me which version of Oracle 9i is certified to work with 9i Application Server release 2 ?
    Oracle 9i Release 9.0.1 or Oracle 9i Release 2 ?
    Thanks.

    Currently, Oracle9i Database Release 1 is the only one certified against Oracle9iAS Release 2. But Oracle9i Database Release 2 certification is partially completed (exceptions are Portal and Clickstream). We are working to complete the certification, so that Oracle9i DB Release 2 is fully certified against Oracle9iAS Release 2. I don't have an estimated date of completion.

  • USB Camera does not work with iChat

    Hello,
    I'm having a terrible time getting my ToUcam Pro II to work with iChat. I downloaded the iUSBcam program. That didn't work. I downloaded the program Macam, and copied the proper file into the Quicktime Library (as suggested) and that didn't work. I downloaded IOXwebcam, and got an error stating that it wouldn't run due to the fact that it didn't have the proper security settings. Sigh.
    So... what am I to do?
    I'd like to buy a webcam that does, actually, work with my 8 month old Mac Pro 4 core mac desktop, but the iSight camera is ridiculously expensive. Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

    An X-box 360 cam will do it although not in that list.

    hi everyone,
    on my new system i can't get my nvidia geforce 6600 to work with the proprietary drivers.
    i went through a new xorg.conf hassle to get a working display. vesa driver was suggested, it worked but slowly. nv driver works somewhat slowly as well.
    using nvidia driver 8774, screen goes blank, my monitor fells asleep, and i don't have a clue about what's going on. i cannot switch to a text-based console (ctrl+alt+F2), all i can do i ctrl+alt+backspace to restart (?) X server, and after a few second, my system seems to reboot by itself.
    any advice is appreciated. thanks !

  • My Labview Report generator is not working with 2013 excel version

    Hi All,
    My report generator tool kit which was developpend using labview 2011 was workign with excel 2010...after that i installed 2013 excel and the code is not working..
    Do i need to enable some setting to work with excel 2013.
    Basically this generator tool will copy the charts from excel and paste in power point...Please let me know.
    Thanks,
    Hareesh

    Ah, I understand now - I had assumed you were using the NI Toolkit.
    If you're not using the report generation toolkit, did you write your own VIs for communicating with Office or are you using a different toolkit? If you're using ActiveX to communicate with Office it may be that the ActiveX API has changed for Office 2013 - you will probably need to modify your program for the new calls.
    Since it wasn't as obvious as I thought with the report generation toolkit, it would help if you posted some code to try and understand what might be happening. Are you getting any errors in your application when you try to use Office 2013?

  • Problems with RAC and XA: Fallback

    Hello,
    we are seing problems with RAC and XA (Tuxedo 11, DB 11.2), specifically encountering "ORA-24798: cannot resume the distributed transaction branch on another instance".
    The first scenario relates to fallback after a RAC node failure. There are two servers, S1 and S2. S1 makes an ATMI call to S2. Both servers are in the same Tuxedo group, using TMS_ORA. RAC is set up for failover (BASIC), no load balancing.
    The sequence is:
    - S1 and S2 are connected to the same RAC node n1. All is well.
    - RAC node n1 fails. S1, S2 and the TMS_ORA all fail over to RAC node n2. After the failover has happened, all is well.
    - RAC node n1 recovers. All is still well (as there is no automatic fallback).
    - S1 (or S2) is restarted (either intentionally or because of a crash). Since n1 is up again, S1 connects to n1. Now we get ORA-24798. Permanently.
    S1 is connected to n1 and S2 is connected to n2. Since both are in the same group, both use the same XA transaction branch. When called, S2 attempts to JOIN the transaction branch that S1 started. But the DB (11.2) does not allow the same branch to span more than one node. Hence the ORA-24798.
    This seems to be a severe limitation in the combination of Tuxedo, XA and RAC. It basically means we still have to use DTP services, even with Tuxedo 11 and DB 11.2. Or are we missing something?
    We could put S1 and S2 into different groups, but that seems to be inefficient, and not practical for a real application (10s of servers).
    I am extrapolating from this that RAC load balancing would also not work, as S1 and S2 could be connected to different RAC nodes.
    Roger

    Roger,
    When using an external transaction manager such as Tuxedo you should still declare Oracle services as DTP services when using Oracle Database 11g. The Tuxedo documentation is not clear about this. The relevant 11gR2 RAC documentation is at http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/rac.112/e16795/hafeats.htm and states
    "An XA transaction can span Oracle RAC instances by default, allowing any application that uses the Oracle XA library to take full advantage of the Oracle RAC environment to enhance the availability and scalability of the application.
    "GTXn background processes support global (XA) transactions in an Oracle RAC environment. The GLOBAL_TXN_PROCESSES initialization parameter, which is set to 1 by default, specifies the initial number of GTXn background processes for each Oracle RAC instance. Use the default value for this parameter clusterwide to allow distributed transactions to span multiple Oracle RAC instances. Using the default value allows the units of work performed across these Oracle RAC instances to share resources and act as a single transaction (that is, the units of work are tightly coupled). It also allows 2PC requests to be sent to any node in the cluster.
    "Before Release 11.1, the way to achieve tight coupling in Oracle RAC was to use Distributed Transaction Processing (DTP) services, that is, services whose cardinality (one) ensured that all tightly-coupled branches landed on the same instance—regardless of whether load balancing was enabled. Tightly coupled XA transactions no longer require the special type of singleton services to be deployed on Oracle RAC databases if the XA application does not join or resume XA transaction branches. XA transactions are transparently supported on Oracle RAC databases with any type of service configuration.
    A"n external transaction manager, such as Oracle Services for Microsoft Transaction Server (OraMTS), coordinates DTP/XA transactions. However, an internal Oracle transaction manager coordinates distributed SQL transactions. Both DTP/XA and distributed SQL transactions must use the DTP service in Oracle RAC."
    This issue came up earlier this year in another newsgroup thread at https://forums.oracle.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=2165803

    Ed

  • Multihead not working with 2.6.31 and nvidia 185

    Right, hi all.
    I've been having trouble for the past few days, when I came back home the machine had hung up.  Then after booting it hanged in kdm.  I've done various attempts at fixing this, with nvidia 190 driver, downgrading to 2.6.30, tested xorg-server 1.7 from testing and I've been running X -configure like crazy.  I also had a problem getting in to kde.  Currently I have my main screen working with kdemod and also strangely one auxiliary screen, that's all black and gets REALLY slow when I move my mouse there.  Normal speed on the main screen.  I'd like to get all four screens working if possible. If I start with all four screens (old config) enabled it hangs after nvidia logo.
