Is Qosmio G20-118 Vista capable?

Hi.
I´m wondering that almost everyone is updating to Vista but my laptop was bought in November of 2005 and has no Vista Capable stick on it.
Despite not having a duo core processor, but a 760M Centrino, if it will run Vista and wich version?
Would it be capable of running Vista Premium?
Even if it´s only Vista lightest version capable..Will the processor get slower and if an update of 1G memory to 2G memory will benefict the machine time?
ps: Oh i have a Qosmio G20-118,Processor 760M Centrino 2G, 1G memory (512+512).
thanks in advance

I really dont understand why you write so stupid comments and sorry if you are not satisfied with my comment. I just try to be realistic. Few my friends have non-Toshiba notebooks and have the same opinion as you have but you must realize that all notebook models will not be supported. I can imagine that in the future you will be able to find some drivers for your Qosmio but probability not in next days.
I have Satellite M70. I have bought this unit last year as you your Qosmio. It is NOT Vista capable notebook but I use Vista over two month now. Sure I can not use some Toshiba specific stuff but I dont care about it.
Many Vista features allow me to use notebook well and I am pretty satisfied. Only problem I have is not enough RAM but it is not important for this discussion.
> I've never heard of software being so 'different' that makes it impossible to run.
Please buy some PC magazines and inform you about Vista and software compatibility before you write here such funny things.

• Qosmio G20: Need Vista Toshiba Common Modules & Utilities

I have a Qosmio G20 and have recently upgraded to Windows Vista - Home Premium
I need to update my Common Modules Driver and Toshiba Utilities - can anyone help me?

Hi Paul
Unfortunately, you will have no success to find Toshiba Vista drivers or utilities for Qosmio G20!
It looks like Toshiba has released only single common Vista drivers like Wireless Lan Driver, Bluetooth Stack, etc. These drivers are not especially designed for G20 series but you can use it on notebooks with the same WLan card or BT card.
However, the Toshiba Vista drivers were not released for Qosmio G20 or F20.
Did you check this?

• How do I recover my Qosmio G20-118 without loosing data?

Hi there,
I need to recover my system but have quite a lot of data in my D: HDD I would very much like to keep.
In this forum, Gipsyman said that I should be able to use the dvd recovery disc selecting the advanced recovery mode, however there are a lot of options and I have no clue. My HDD are independent i.e. not using the RAID mirroring.
Can you tell me how to recover system formating only HDD C: and leaving data in HDD D:?
Thanks!
Pedro

I would suggest you back up your D drive just in case, whatever you do.
I don't know whether it's because of the raid setup or just my carelessness, but when recovering my G20 in expert mode it wiped both my drives. Luckily I was sensible enough to have copied all the data to an external drive.
I find the default raid option a pain to be honest and would rather it weren't there as personally I'd like to made a ghost image of my system (C) drive but I can't seem to do it as the recovered drive always fails to fully boot. I'm told it might be due to the raid drivers, but don't understand why and symantec have no clue either.

• Qosmio G20-118 and Active Sync via bluetooth

I cant make activesync to work when connecting my Pocket PC (With Windows Mobile 2003 second edition) via bluetooth. Can anyone help or post a link to a help page?
Thanks in advance,
Miguel Amaro

Hi
As far as I know the Pocket PC must be in the cradle.
1. "Tap" on start and choose the ActiveSync program
2. Then "tap" on "Tools" and choose "Options" in the ActiveSync Program
3. Check under "Enable synchronization when cradled using" to see if the setting is on Bluetooth
Important: Please remove the Pocket PC from the cradle and then return it to the cradle.
This activates the new setting

• Cant turn BT on Qosmio G20-118

Hi.
I dont got a clue whats happening.
I cant use bluetooth and i dont know why.
When i turn it on and click on " bluetooth settings" and "new conection" i got the message saying "bluetooth isnt ready".
I cant click on "device settings" also.
Do i have to configure anything? would be super if anyone could help me.
Susana

Ok lets try and get this sorted!
Have you the BT (BT for bluetooth) symbol on the bottom RHS of the task bar?
If so if you right click on it it should display a list of options incl. Enable BT radio.
If not then you need to locate the Bluetooth Manager program, mine is by Start > All programs > Toshiba > Bluetooth Settings
The program will load but more importantly the icon should appear?
Then do the right click over the icon and enable BT Radio
Hope this works.....others may have an idea and sure they'll help along.

• Qosmio G20 Vista drivers? Not needed to install Windows Vista

Hello,
I am new at this forum. My name is Francisco and I live in Brazil. I own a Toshiba Qosmio g20_105 and it is running Windows Vista Ultimate EN RTM 6000 without problems.
To do this, you must perform a fresh install of Windows Vista. The drivers for network (Intel PRO100),for audio (Soundmax), for TV (Toshiba PCI Tuner), modem (toshiba modem), Alps pointing device are installed directly from microsoft. You must install Toshiba nvidia display driver, Toshiba Bluetooth (monitor and stack), Toshiba texas flash media driver, toshiba RAID (driver and utilities), toshiba remote control manager and ConfigFree for Windows Vista.
You must have the Toshiba RAID drivers to install from the windows Vista DVD. Otherway, Windows does not recognize Toshiba RAID 0 and RAID 1.
Below some pictures of my G20 Desktop screen:
http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/myqosmiog20screen1.jpg
http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/myqosmiog20screen2.jpg
http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/myqosmiog20screen3.jpg
And here is an example of using deskscapes animated backgrounds with Windows Vista, called dreamscene.
It is in paused mode
http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/myqosmiog20screen4.jpg
To perform a fresh install of windows Vista:
Please, download the Toshiba RAID drivers from here:
http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/drivers/raid.rar
1. Copy the contents of this archive onto a floppy disk, CD, DVD, or USB flash drive.
2. Insert your Microsoft Windows Vista Edition Bootable DVD.
3. Power on your computer and press F12 to display the boot menu.
4. Choose the option to boot from the CD/DVD drive.
5. On the first setup screen, choose your language options then press "Next".
6. Press "Install Now".
7. Type in your Product Key then press "Next".
8. Accept the license terms by checking the box then press "Next".
9. When asked "What type of installation do you want", press "Custom (advanced)".
10. When asked "Where do you want to install Windows", make sure your media containing the Toshiba RAID drivers is connected to the computer, then click on "Load Driver".
11. Browse to the location you have copied the RAID drivers to then press "OK".
12. Setup will return to the previous screen, but it will show that you have selected the TOSHIBA RAID driver.
13. Make sure the TOSHIBA RAID driver is selected then press "Next".
14. Continue the installation of Windows Vista as normal.
Now you will need the Toshiba drivers for your Qosmio G20:
See the Device manager info:
http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/qosmiodrivers1.jpg
Drivers:
1. SD memory controller
http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/drivers/SD_memory.rar
2. Bluetooth monitor and stack
http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/drivers/bluetooth_mon.rar
http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/drivers/bluetooth_stack.rar
3. Nvidia display driver GeForce Go 6600
http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/drivers/nvidia97.52.rar
4. Texas FlashMedia controller
http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/drivers/flasmedia.rar
And finally the Toshiba utilities:
Toshiba Configfree
Toshiba Assist
RAID utilities
Remote control manager
Toshiba SD Memory utilities
That's it...
So I must tell to you that Toshiba Qosmio G20 is Windows Vista Ultimate capable, indeed.
Hope this helps people who need and want to install Windows Vista Aero on their Qosmio G20 machines.

2.Check your Qosmio player installation. if nedeed, reinstall it with the latest version (multilanguage), posted on Toshibas site (download drivers section).
3.Download and copy the Toshiba RAID drivers to a removable media
Please, download the Toshiba RAID drivers from here:
http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/drivers/raid.rar

6. Reboot your machine and follow with the steps below.
DRIVERS YOU MUST INSTALL:
1. Alps pointing device driver (This is from Alps and working fine with your Qosmio G20)
http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/drivers/alpsdriver.rar
http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/qosmioalps.jpg
During the installation, Windows will complain that you are installing an early device driver. Do not attempt to this, Install it anyway.
This is because the Windows driver for this device is originally installed with a more recent date and version from that you are trying to install.
But the driver posting here is the correct from the Alps for your Qosmio g20.

open the Device manager
look for the Video adapter/nvidia Gforce go6600
Driver update options
Look for a driver in computer
Choose a list of device drivers in computer
With disc...
Lool for the place you've extracted the nvidia 97.52.rar
Find the nvts.inf and open it
You will come to the following screen:
http://www.rabayjr.com/vista/qosmionvidiainstall.jpg
From a list choose your video card (go6600) and install it.
If you think it is difficult, please see the VIDEO Nvidiainstall.avi:

• Qosmio G20-127: Screen blackout after closing the lid on Vista

Hi,
I have Qosmio G20-127 and I've recently installed Vista Ultimate Edition (32-bit). I managed to bring everything to its place (except the magic buttons, but the drivers are not out yet), but I have a problem that is seriously making me reconsider going back to XP MCE.
When I close the lid of my computer the display naturally goes off, but when I open it up again it does not turn on, but it stays black. And I can't make it turn on again no matter what. I have to turn off the entire computer and that is quite impractical.
Funny thing is that after restart for about 20-30 minutes I can open and close the lid normally, but after a little longer work on the computer the same problem occurs.
The problem persists even after I turned off every action remotely connected to closing the lid.
Does anyone have any solution?

Hi J,
thanks for your help but my BIOS update won't install. I get the message "[Error] BIOS Update is not supported OS. Unsupported OS or service pack is installed."
About the powersaver, I didn't install additional powersaver program as I was told it would conflict with Vista's Mobility Center (FranciscoJr's Guide to installing Vista), but all the options regarding closing lid are turned off (Do nothing option).
There are two more new things I observed and might be indicative of the problem, but I don't know what to make of it.
1. When I close the lid I hear 'disconnected device sound'
2. And the screen sometimes comes back if the s-video cable (leading to my tv) is plugged out (usually it was always in coz I use Q20 as a media center as well)
Of course that made me think that it might be a problem in Graphic Card, but I've installed the most recent driver.
So now I'm pretty much clueless as what to do.

• How to find Vista drivers for Qosmio G20?

Hi All...
Has anyone managed to get qosmio g20 working correctly with vista drivers yet??? (or even have you managed to find any vista drivers!!!).
Video and sound running in slow-mo... do i need to install monitor drivers ??? (if so where are they??)
Please., please., please., someone help...
Leighster

Well... finally had some joy worth writing about. The 1st version of Vista i installed was an 'Upgrade' from my MCE 2005... the results were that the video and audio played slow (among other problems)... anyway, after much frustration i decided to try a clean install of vista instead of the upgrade. ... ... ... ... ... ... WOW... it worked...video drivers installed, everything works fine (except the Qosmio buttons above the keyboard. NO SLOW_MO AUDIO OR VIDEO :)
Hope this is of some use for others...

• TV tuner doesn't work on Vista - Qosmio G20-127

My TV tuner doesn't work on Qosmio G20-127. Or should I be more specific it is not recognised at all, Media Center says there is not tuner hardware. I don't even know where would I install the driver, even if I had it. The only unrecognized device in device menager is 'Multimedia Video Controller'.
Did anyone have this problem or maybe still does? What are my options? Besides going back to WIN XP MCE. :)

So, I managed to find G30 driver for the TV tuner and installed it to 'Multimedia Video Controler'. And it seems to work. I downloaded the driver from toshiba's official sitehere.

Hello Pattayamad,
About your question:
Hi...I'm so confused!!!!....please can someone advise me......Been reading all the posts on this.....What is the best way to Connect G20-139 running Vista Home to a HD Plasma?????........
Right now you will not be able to connect your Qosmio g20 to a high definition TV. Not because the Qosmio, but because you are running Windows Vista on it. The actual nvidia drivers are not working properly to enable the Scan progressive output to your Plasma TV. You can use only the Svideo output, which is not so good. Lets wait for the new graphic drivers for the geforce go6600.
Can i buy a D-video to HDMI cable (searched the net but not sure on what i'm looking for in a cable...LOL).....any help please....i'm no expert!!!!
No, there is not a D-video to HDMI available. You can use the D-video to component cable (red, green and blue RCAs) or you can buy the SCART adapter to component, and use the cable supplied with your notebook (D-video to SCART) with this adapter.
but , if you want to output Scan progressive resolutions with the video component cable, you must use the windows media Center 2005 OS. Not working with Vista.

• Qosmio G20 and Windows 7

Hi there,
I've got an old Qosmio G20-115 that uses the RAID controller for the two hard disks. I've tried installing both Windows 7 (RC1) and Windows Vista but I'm always getting stuck at the point of Windows installation detecting the hard drives. After reading various reports from this forum and other sources around the web, I've tried on numerous occassions to get the installation to detect the disks using drivers from various different sources but to no avail.
Is there something more fundamental I'm getting wrong? What should the RAID settings be set to in the BIOS when trying to install an OS? Has anyone managed to get Windows 7 (RC1) working on their G20? Has anyone got some drivers that they've tested and managed to get Vista/Windows 7 onto their G20-115s?
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Hi Boarder,
Thanks for your reply. The G20 is old, but the hardware (aside from the RAID controller) is still very generic isn't it? Is there a specific piece that won't work with Windows 7?
List of drivers I've tried so far (both XP & vista)

All to no avail. I've even tried installing Vista but keep getting the exact same issue - none of the drivers seem to pick up the hard drives.
Thanks.

• Qosmio G20 = Component Video Cable and High Definition Videos With Pinnacle

Dear Everybody
I bought my Qosmio G20-120 from Poland which came with D-video to Scart cable. This cable is only capable of transferring Video (CVBS) signals which is pretty useless because Qoismio has S-Video Output already... Which is better than simple Video Output that I can get from Scart.
According to www.toshiba-europe.com Qoismio has supposed to have Component Video output. But it comes with Scart cable instead. I am still trying to get this Component Video to D-Video cable from the distributor. If I wont succeed, does anybody know if and where I can buy this cable in Europe? Or is it possible to make a component video to D-video cable out of D-Video to Scart cable?
As last did anybody try the high definition DVB-S channels on Qoismio by using USB 2.0 DVB-S TV Card.Any opinions about Pinnacle PCTV 400e ??
Thank You

Yes I do live in Europe. But who says that Component Video Cable is a standart from USA or Japan. I have been using Component Video Cables to connect my DVD Player with my video projector since 2002. Component Video Cables are wisely used in Europe. And its the ONLY analogue way of transferring HD-Video (Plus DVI and HDMI)
What disturbs me alot is that on www.toshiba-europe.com they explain that my computer has:
Interfaces 1 x headphone
1 x DC-in
1 x line-in
1 x external monitor
1 x RJ-11
1 x RJ-45
1 x i.LINK (IEEE 1394)
4 x USB 2.0
1 x Monitor-in (line-in port)
1 x TV-antenna
1 x S-Video-in (Composite/Line-in)
1 x TV-out (s-video, Component-out))
1 x 5-in-1 Bridge Media slot (supports SD Card, Memory Stick, Memory Stick Pro, MultiMedia Card, xD-Picture Card)
Where is the Component-out ???Promise is a promise. Why do they say it if they dont give it?
Instruction manual also says that : D-Video port lets you transfer 525i(480i),525p(480p),1125i(1080i) or 750p(720p) data to external devices.
How can you transfer 720p with a Scart Cable?? It is impossible.... The only way that Qosmio can transfer 1280x720 picture is a Component Video cable.(Because it has no DVI port) How much does this cable cost anyway?? But the problem is NOBODY is producing it in Europe. I am writing to Toshiba-Japan. Since they are saying that my computer has Component-out so they must get me the cable....

• Re: Qosmio G20 - multimedia video controller installation

Hi friends
I have tried to install my Qosmio G20 Windows XP (MCE) with PCI device ..
PCI multimedia video controller.
USB device.
I installed it manually and mapped the driver path to "C:/ tools cd "
It gives me an reply that the no driver is found for the device and get finished..
So what I am suppose to do now and make it work...
tanx in advance
Raja

If you ran Toshiba Recovery, then the drivers should be in C:\TOSAPINS
But running recovery should install all the required drivers automatically.
I am guessing that its the TV Tuner, so go to the Toshiba website and install the TV Tuner Driver.
If that doesnt work, tell us the VEN and DEV numbers
For XP: Go to Start -> Control Panel -> System -> Hardware -> Device Manager.
For Vista: Go to Start -> Control Panel -> System -> Device Manager.
Right-Click on the Unknown Device, and select "Properties".
Go to the "Details" Tab, select "Device Instance ID" or "Hardware Ids" in the dropdown list.
You will see something like PCI\VEN_????
The VEN_ number is the Vendor or Manufacturer. For example:
8086 = Intel
10EC = Realtek
168C = Atheros
14E4 = Broadcom
1022 = AMD
1106 = VIA
11AB = Marvell Yukon

• Integrated digital TV on Qosmio G20-156

My husband has a Qosmio G20-156.
Can anyone tell me if there is digital TV reception available on this model. I am hoping to get him a DVB-T USB for fathers day, however on looking at the product specification it states that it has digital capability integrated.
I am certain however if his machine did then we would already be hooked up !
Can anyone clarify for me, as I would love this to be a surprise.

Hi
According to the Qosmio specification site the unit was delivered with DVB+T Analog Hybrid TV Tuner and DVB-T Antenna.
I dont know where do you live but the fact is that you cannot receive the digital signals everywhere. The signal must be strong enough to receive the digital channels.
