Is RAID configuration possible on MSI GX660 266NE gaming laptop

[ ERROR: SPECIFIED ATTACHMENT MISSING ] Hello
I have a GX660 266NE laptop that came installed with a single harddrive. I have now replaced it with 2 Kingston SSDNow 240 GB SSD harddrives. I have also flashed BIOS to the latest on MSI support that includes the option for RAID configuration. In BIOS I have enabled RAID but when I save this BIOS configuration I do not get the option to press ctrl+I to enter Intel Rapid Storage Tech RAID configuration.
Any ideas of what i am missing? or is it simply not possible to make RAID running on this laptop?
Thanks in advance and english it not my native language so excuse me for any misspelling and not correct sentences :-)

Hi, Is your BIOS updated to version 30L?

well, I never image that a gaming NB could be so slim like a Ultrabook, I guess this GS70 is made by metal and with very advance thermal design, the VGA and CPU is the highest power consumption parts and GS70 just handel the balence of thermal and high performance..... you can tell by the picture that is super slim....

  • SSD 128GB OCZ Vertax 3 on MSI GX660 it's possible?

Well i'm ready with SSD Test on my MSI GX660 SSD OCZ Vertex 3 120GB.
SSD working so good and windows index on Hard Drive is 7.6 not 5.9 like with WD 7200 rpm.

  • PT8 Neo SATA Raid Configuration Utility

I recently upgraded my system which was running a AMD athlon 1.2GHZ processor and only 128mb SDRAM.  The system was stable and running windows XP home edition.
I upgraded to the PT8 Neo motherboard which supports SATA hard drives.  I was expecting a dramatic increase when I upgraded my system to the new P4 800mhz FSB 3.0GB processor and 512MB DDR 400mhz ram.
I was still using my WD 60GB EIDE Hard Drive when I upgraded the Motherboard, Ram, & Processor.  The upgrade went smoothly and system worked without glitches.
Unsatisfied with the increase in performance, I also purchased a Western Digital Raptor 74GB 10000 RPM hard drive using the SATA interface cable.
I have updated the bios of the motherboard and updated the driver for the SATA raid controller using Live Bios Update 3.
    I am having 2 problems:
Problem 1.  When I enter the bios for the SATA Raid configuration utility after the initial post by pressing , none of the selections are available.  I move my arrows down but nothing highlights and I can't select anything in the configuration utility except ESC key to exit.
The SATA controller is enabled in the BIOS.
The initial SATA Raid Configuration displayed immediately after the post, does show the hard drive.
I want to be able to boot from the new WD Raptor Hard Drive and transfer all the existing files from the IDE Drive to the SATA drive, but I can't seem to get the drive to initialize, format, fdisk, etc.
Problem 2.  Windows XP doesn't have enough resources available to activate the VIA Serial ATA RAID Controller in Device Manager.  It shows a Yellow ! and returns a code 12 (This device cannot find enough free resources that it can use).  I have tried disabling several items in the bios including LAN support, On board Sound but nothing seems to work.
Keep in mind, I have downloaded the latest bios, latest drivers, etc.
The rest of the components on my machine are as follows:
    1.  Custom Built Computer (Non-Branded)
    2.  60GB Western Digital 7200 RPM IDE Hard Drive on IDE0 (Master)
    3.  DVD Rom on IDE0 (Slave)
    4.  MSI 52x32x52x CDRW on IDE1 (Master)
    5.  Zip 100 IDE Drive (Slave)
    6.  Floppy Drive
    7.  Pentium 4 3.0GZ 800mhz FSB
    8.  512mb DDR 400mhz Memory
    9.  ATI All-In-Wonder PCI Video Card
    10. SIIG Firewire controller
I have already tried removing the SIIG firewire controller thinking that it was getting in the way of available resources.  That did not work.
I have invested alot of money on this system, I wanted the best and have always used MSI motherboards because of their stability and reliability.
Please help as soon as possible.
    Thanks

first off you are only using one SATA so no option are avalible in Raid Bios
in order to install windows the safe way detach your 60ata hrad drive plug in the raptor and install windows then Press F6 at the begining the you will have to the SATA diskett in the floppy drive  in stall SATA windows drivers continue with install.
once you are fished Windows, drivers then shut down and plug in your ATA hard drive turn on your PC enter the bios navagate to the Advanceed BIOS Features/Boot Sequency selected your SATA raid drive as First boot then CD roms as second. then your done boot in to windows

  • Is there a way to run a external ssd with my mid 2011 iMac hdd in a raid configuration and basically have a fusion drive

is there a way to run a external ssd with my mid 2011 iMac hdd in a raid configuration and basically have a fusion drive

A Fusion Drive is not a RAID; it's a CoreStorage logical volume group. While it's technically possible to do as you suggest, there would be little or no benefit from it.

  • Raid Configuration MCS 7845 (best practice)

I'm wondering what is the best practice for RAID configuration. Looking for examples of a 4 disk and 6 disk setups. Also, which drives to pull when breaking the mirror.
Is it possible to have a RAID 1+0 for 4/6 drives and have the mirroring set so that you would pull the top or bottom drives on a MCS 7835/7845?
I'm also confused that using the SmartStart Array Configuration I seem to be able to create one logical drive using raid 1+0 with only having 2 drives, how is that possible?
And links to dirrections would be appreicated.

ICM 7.0, CVP 4.x, CCM 4.2.3, unity, and the collaboration server 5.0 and e-mail manager options for ICM.
But to keep it simple let's look at a Roger set-up.

  • Which RAID Configuration for my WD "My Book Mirror Edition"?

About to reformat my WD "My Book Mirror Edition" to use on my iMac.  I hope to also install on my iMac "Virtual Box", "VM Fusion", or "Parallels"  and then run a few windows products.  Which RAID  configuration should I choose in the WD "drive configurations" box?

If I were you I'd run any Virtual Machine directly on your iMac, not on a "WD My Book Mirror Edition", in particular not when connected through USB 2.0.
To store data, the WD is fine.
    For the RAID options:
RAID 0 ("striping") : if you want something fast (insofar this is possible with a USB connection). Note that when one of your disks fails you can say goodbye to all your data.
RAID 1 ("mirroring"): more safe. If one disk fails, the data are recoverable as they are on the other disk as well.  Disadvantage is you get only half the storage capacity compared to RAID 0.
Oh. my personal recommendation: RAID 1 is not an alternative to making a backup. So whatever option you choose: if you store valuable data on the disk that are nowehere else: back them up!
    On formats:
HFS+ : definitely recommended if you only use the RAID array on the Mac.
FAT 32: if you also use it on a Windows machine. Note that files cannot be larger than 4 GB in this case.
    Hope this helps.

  • Need Help W/ Raid Configuration

I NEED HELP W/ MY RAID CONFIGURATION.
    I HAVE THE K7N2 DELTA-ILSR MOBO W/ A XP2600+, I HAVE TWO 40 GIG HARDDRIVES THAT I WANT TO RAID 0 TOGHTER.
I HAVEN'T FOUND IN THE MANUALL HOW TO SET UP THE RAID ARREY, I DONT NO HOW TO SET THE DRIVER AS FAR AS SLAVE/MASTER SETTINGS, WITCH ONE NEEDS TO GO TO WITCH CHANNEL ( PRIMARY/SECONDARY/CS).
    - EVERY TIME THAT I SET IT UP THE ARREY IS SHOWING ONLY 1 DRIVE, I BELIVE THAT RAID 0 SHOULD HAVE BOTH OF THE DRIVES AS 1 BIG DRIVE, CAN SOME ONE HELP ME W/ INSTARUCTIONS HOW TO CREATE THIS ARREY?
    thanks guys

I had RAID 0 set on my system. I used the MSI Live Update software to update my RAID controller because it said it needed it. It hung up in the middle of the update, so I let it sit for 24 hours. Finally I rebooted, & now it won't even see the drives. If you go with RAID 0, back up your data, and keep it backed up!!! I will say this, while it worked, it was really really fast!!! In order to make my RAID work (while it lasted) I used two SATA drives. I believe you can also use one ATA & 1 SATA instead of two SATA drives. If you use 1 ATA drive, set it to master & connect to IDE 3. This will be the only drive on that cable. During the boot up, you have to follow the prompt & press to enter the FastBuild (tm) Utility. Once there, you can choose Auto Setup & it will do the work for you. I must re-iterate, KEEP YOUR DATA BACKED UP!!!!!! I hope this helps. Good luck!

  • RAID configuration with 3 HDs

    Hi everyone,
I have a Mac Mini with Mac OS X Server. I am figuring out if it is possible to setup RAID with 3 hard disks.
In the Mac Mini there are 2 HDs of 500GB each. I have an external HD of 1TB connected through USB. I was thinking to make one striped disk of the two internal ones and then setup a mirrored one with the one striped and the external one.
So that I have for Mac OS X one hard drive of 1 TB (RAID).
Is this possible? I know I could just try it out, but my server is operational and if it doesn't work I have to setup it all over again without RAID.
    Thanks for the reply's.

    Hi
Yes this is entirely possible. Whether it's advisable is another question? If this was the main production server with all services enabled and a company's business depending on it I would not do it. Only my opinion though and seeing as it's your server, you do what you want. If this is going to be a lightly used server why not and give it a go?
Most of us who deal with servers regularly would not (a) use externally attached drives as part of a RAID Set because of latency and possible accidental disconnects and (b) not use USB. If you have to use an externally attached drive firewire would be better (preferable FW800).
If your server is currently operational you could target disk mode it to another mac (over fw800) use Disk Utility to create a .dmg of it. Or if you like CarbonCopyCloner, SuperDuper! or anything else you may have in your 'kitbag'. Once you've done that you can then save this .dmg to another externally attached drive. Set up the MacMini Server's internal drives as a RAID 0. Attach the external 1TB drive and configure the RAID 1. Restore the saved .dmg back to the newly set up RAID. When done disconnect from Target Disk Mode and reboot the server.
Hopefully you should be up and running with everything as it was before but with the desired RAID configuration you want.

  • Changing Raid configuration

we have changed the Raid 1 to a non-Raid configuration for testing purposes. Now we wanted to set the Raid 1 again in the configuration menu of the LSI Controller. But there it says, that all data will be erased. Isn't it possible to set one HDD as the primary HDD and mirror the data to the other HDD (this way is possible with server controllers)? If this isn't possible, how can I get the Raid 1 back, without losing Data and the Service partition... Perhabps creating Rescue and Recovery cds?
    Thanks
    Regards,
    Christof

are you sure your primary drive was released from the array topography?   it sounds like something is still being flagged as being part of an array.
if that's no help, try this:
    - physically unplug both drives from your system
    - boot into the LSI BIOS
    - delete the old array
    - turn off the system
    - plug the primary drive back in
    - boot into windows
    - plug in the second drive
    - set it to 'online' in disk management
    - run MSM and see if it will let you create an array
somewhere along the way you might have to delete the LSI array from the boot menu in the D10 BIOS and re-enable it.
my gut feeling is that something is still flagged somewhere and needs to be unflagged for this to work.

  • RAID configuration on 760GMA-P34fx

I have 4 1TB SATA drives plugged into the SATAII motherboard connectors.
    Latest BIOS version.
In BIOS, I select Integrated Peripherals.
On-Chip ATA Devices->On-Chip SATA Controller [Enabled]
    RAID Mode                                                          [RAID]
F-10, save configuration changes and exit setup.  Machine reboots.
No RAID configuration prompts appear.  Nothing new has shown up in BIOS setup to configure the RAID.  No "ctrl-f" appears to configure RAID.
My question:  How do I configure the RAID?

No RAID option appears.  Ever.  Anywhere.  On no screen.  I only ever get "F11 for Boot options" and "Del for Bios Configuration".
I have also tried the 2TB Infinity boot option, but all I ever get from that is "no bootable devices found".
I may never again buy an MSI board considering how worthless the manual and online support has been.
