Is recovery from ipod possible?

Apparently I have recently lost my external hard drive and everything on it. My itunes was synced to that hard drive and my entire music collection was on it as well.
My ipod has everything on it that was there and had been recently synced. I need to recreate my library on itunes (and will do it on the internal drive now).
Please tell em what to do. I am a music teacher and need to access this music for work.

For content not purchased from the iTunes Store, check out this post from Zevoneer for some iPod/iPhone media recovery options:

Once you get everything back, I'd strongly suggest that you immediately make a backup (on an external hard drive, or DVDs, or to an online backup service, whichever is most practical). Depending on an iPod for your sole backup is not a wise thing to do.

  • File recovery from ipod to hard drive

I lost files on my hard drive, but still have them on my ipod. Is there a way to restore my hard drive from my ipod?

For iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.
Find out how to do that here.
How to copy iTunes purchases from an iPod to a computer.
For all other non purchased content (your own CDs etc) try this method which works on some Windows PCs.
Enable your iPod for disk use.
    See: iPod Disk Use.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
If this doesn't work (and it may not because officially it's not supposed to), check out the instructions/suggestions here.
Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it is a little more involved than other methods.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Another free program is Pod Player.
    SharePod is also freeware.

  • ICal Recovery from iPod to Laptop Possible?

I lost my iCal when my harddrive died -- though I have a recent version of my iCal postings on my iPod Classic. Is there a way to get that data back into my new iCal on my Powerbook G4?
I should note that I did have my laptop backed up on an external drive, however I have no idea how to retrieve my iCal data from that drive (so that might be an option if anyone knows where that data is kept).
    Thanks.
    Mike

I have not actually done this but I believe it is possible (at least on my last-generation iPod Nano) - First make sure that your iPod is enabled for disk use. Then double click on the icon of your iPod on the desktop. Then open the "calendars" folder and drag the icons of the calendars you want to restore to your desktop (ex "iSync-birthdays.ics). Double-click on that icon and iCal will open with a window that says "Add New Events" and click OK. Good luck!

  • Transfering songs from iPod after PC recovery what software please, help?

Hi,unfortunately i had to do another recovery on my pc and did not have enough time to back up my music/vids. I thought this would be ok as i had previously downloaded Podplayer and thought i could recover them with this software, it seems to have gone haywire and changed song titles some of them are now unamed and have become protected. Even worse it also turns out i have now lost over 200 music vids and movies in one swoop,no thanks to the ipods automatic syncing when plugged in. Thank god ive still got my music, just about. Can anyone please suggest a free software that i can use to transfer music from ipod to my PC that is reusable and also keeps the songs in order, title, artist and so on? If not free something reasonale and good. Please help thanks

One of the most recommended is <f

This is a free program that transfers music and
playlists etc from iPod back to the computer.
However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings
    etc.
Thanks, i have downlowded yamipod and its better than pod player as it puts the song info in order when they are placed in iTunes. I will start backing up properly when i get an external drive. Thanks for your help.

    Music from iPod to computer.
There's also another method. I've successfully tested this across several different Windows PCs.

  • Transfer all songs from iPod to iTunes?  Crash Recovery.

Okay. My old PC blew up and I lost iTunes with everything in it. Fortunately, my iPod still has all my songs. So I bought a new PC, re-downloaded iTunes, and now I want to upload everything on my iPod into my new iTunes library. I can't figure out how! Tried "import" and "export" options, tried copying and pasting, etc. Nothing worked.
Can anyone help with a step by step? The iPod is the ONLY place where my collection currently exists. Thanks very much.

    Erik,
These links will give you several methods of recovering whatever songs remain on your iPod; some free, some third-party software, some more comprehensive for restoring playlists, ratings, playcounts, etc. Read them and their associated links before deciding on a strategy that works for you. There are many various third-party software programs that will offer a more robust process, or an easier GUI. Do a Google search for them if the links below leave you wanting…

    iPodRip Software
    PodUtil Software
XPlay (Software For Cross-Platform Functionality & Music Recovery)
XPlay Photo Browser (For recovering Photos)
After recovering your song files, strongly consider developing a thorough backup strategy for just this type of situation.
You need at least three sets of your music:
-- One full set on the PC within iTunes
-- One full set on an external backup medium (CD/DVD/ExHD/other)
-- One (full or partial) set on the iPod
Music files on just the iPod and the computer is not considered having any backup. If you cannot store your complete music files on the computer, then create and maintain two external sets.
Backup both the music files and the Library database file (iTunes Library.itl).

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
The best option is to get an external harddrive for backup. Imagine if your iPod got stolen and your computer crashed. Or your iPod malfunctions when trying to recover music.

If you want to recover just the structure of playlists from the iPod (and not the actual song files themselves), there's iRepo for Windows. which I understand has this feature along with all the standard features for these programs.
There is also CopyTrans. This does preserve ratings/playcounts etc if those are important to you but this program is not free. It also supports video transfer.

  • Is it possible to move songs from ipod to itunes?

i just bought a new macbook and proceeded to consolidate my files on itunes on my old pc. i then put that folder on an external drive which i plugged into my mac. unfortunately, it didn't seem to accept the .tmp files or the .xml file.
once i plugged it back into my pc, it showed me that i only had a few music files instead of them all.
so i ended up losing a lot of music.
most of my music is on my ipod...is there a way to get the music on my ipod to itunes without deleting anything?
    thanks in advance!

  • How to retrieve music from ipod without syncing it

So my computer was messed up and I'm missing a bunch of music so i was needing to get the music files back. I have them on my ipod but i cant view them in itunes unless i sync the ipod which would erase the songs not on the computer and defeat the purpose of what i'm trying to do. I have the 'manually manage music' option checked and when i open up my ipod file from my computer it doesn't have the music files only pictures and stuff. I know it's possible to get the music without erasing it but i forget how and its really annoying, so how would i do so?

Here is the way about how to recover music from iPod
Assuming you're using a Windows 7 or 8 computer here.
Go to the start menu > type in hidd > open 'Show Hidden Files and Folders' > check the circle in that says Show hidden files, folders, and drives. > Click apply.
Now plug your iPod in. Go to Computer > click on eg. 'Azrielrain's ipo (H:)' or whatever shows up that looks like that > iPod_Control > Music > The files underneath that.
Now in those files will be mp3 or mp3 variants of your music, they will NOT however have the original names given to them. You can copy the files to your desktop, or music folder. That is pretty much the closest you'll get to being able to salvage your music from your iPod. Or you can use Data Recovery to help you recover your iPod music.
