Is reinstalling recovery partition under warranty

I accidentally deleted the recovery partition while partitioning. I took the system to authorised service centre for reinstalling the system to factory condition. The service centre told that it is not covered under warranty and will be chargeable (INR 1600).
Is that a right information? Is it not covered under warranty? My system lenovo ideapad u410 is 2weeks old.

Hi
If you had windows 8 pre-installed, the product key will be embedded in the bios and you dont need to type it when you have to reinstall windows 8(same Version)
About the preloaded softwares, they are in the d drive. There is no software cd nowadays and moreover, u410(as far as i know) does not even have a optical drive.

  • Rename Recovery partition under Win8

I just got a HP Envy Touchsmart Quad laptop.  I found that Recovery Partition is assigned the drive letter D.
I shrunk the C drive to have another partition and wanted to name it as D.   I wanted rename the Recovery Partition to have the letter E. The DiskManagement under Computer Management does not have an option to rename
this Recovery partition.  I could not find the solution by googling but there was a clue.  Here is how.
    1. Window Key and R to bring up Run dialog.
    2. Type "DiskPart" in the command line window.
    3. "list volume" to find out the volume number for the Recovery partition.
    4. "select volume 2" (in my case it is volume 2).
    5. "attribute volume set hidden" to hide the partition.
    6. Now the drive letter D is gone.
    7. Get out of DiskPart
    8. You can rename your extra partion to "D" now, using the Disk Management.
If you want to see the Recovery partition (HP Recovery Manager needs to see it), do the process above to item 4.
do "attribute volume clear hidden".   This will automatically assign drive letter (in my case it now has E).
HP Recovery Manager finds the Recovery Partition correctly (even though the drive letter is different).
    Hope that this is helpful.

This is not advised unless you have created the REcovery media first. Other wise you will have to later order the disk from HP. This is why D:\ is the hidden partition for a reason removing it will be at your risk. So unless you created the REcovery media and verify it works this isn't something one should go messing around with. It is there for a reason and if they no longer make the disk for it and you didn't create the disk for it that will be a costly mistake to do.

  • Maverick upgrade: Can't create recovery partition and infinite loop

    Hi,
I'm using MacBook Air Mid 2011 with 256 GB SSD (~30 GB free disk space) running MacOS 10.7.4. So far I never followed the suggestion to upgrade to MacOS Maverick but yesterday I thought, OK, let's do it.
After the first reboot the setup started working, but after about 5 minutes it quit with the error message, it can't create the recovery partition and said, after a reboot, I would be sent back to my old MacOS.
However, it booted again into the setup, worked a few minutes, quite with the error message and said, I have to reboot. I tried this a few times but didn't find a way to cancel the setup, but boot into my existing MacOS installation.
I found no other solution than to make a full restore with TimeMachine.
I'm now wondering what the problem was. One point may be that I use FileVault for hard disk encryption and it never asked me for my hard disk password. This is in particular remarkable because TimeMachine didn't show me my internal hard disk as a restore target until I went to the disk utility and used Unlock on my hard disk where I had to enter my password. So maybe this is related?
I know I could run the upgrade without creating a recovery partition but now I'm concerned that other problems could occur if I don't identify the root cause.
    Best regards,
    Dominik

You can try making a Recovery Volume using the 2nd link if you still have the installer.

The file seems to create the CD/DVD/Image and USB just fine. So I used this only to create a CD image which I then wrote on a blank CD which seems to work fine. Also, I played around a bit and had some partial success in booting the partition. I've updated my original opening post with the new findings.
Whew!! what a waste of time! Never want to do all of this again .

  • Reinstalling Mountain Lion from recovery partition

    Hi,
I am trying to reinstall the Mountain Lion OS from my recovery partition. I have already erased my drive and attempted to reinstall like I have always done. This time though it is asking for an apple id that was used to purchase lion. However I went from snow leapord to Mountain Lion, and am trying to reinstall my mountain lion.
I have done this before countless times and it has always worked, but now its not. I can not make a bootable flash drive to use as I already erased my hard drive and this is the only mac I have.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thank you,
    Jeff

    These are the instructions:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH11273
Can you start up your MBP holding down the OPTION key ands access the Recovery partition?
What model MBP do you have?  Did it come with installation disks?  You may have to use those first before you can install Mt. Lion.
    Ciao.

  • U410 recovery partition reformatted, need help reinstalling Windows 8

    Hi,
I have a Lenovo U410 with a 32GB SSD and a 750GB HDD that are treated as one drive. The previous owner reformatted the entire drive, which erased the recovery partition. Thus, I can'tmake a recovery disc or USB stick (the recovery partition would have to be intact for that to work anyway) and can't reinstall Windows 8.
Can anyone confirm that the recovery media I'd order from Lenovo support would be able to reinstall Windows 8? I'm afraid that they would send me a disc that needs the recovery partition to work.
    Thank you.

You can give them (Lenovo support) a call and ask about it.
I did, they didn't know if it would work.

  • Will reinstalling Lion via the Lion recovery partition cause you to loose all of your applications, documents, etc or does it just replace the Lion operating system and leave everything else untouched?

Will reinstalling Lion via the Lion recovery partition cause you to loose all of your applications, documents, etc or does it just replace the Lion operating system and leave everything else untouched?

The latter. I cant tell you how many times I've reinstalled lion! all your apps will be fine!
Things that will change are system graphics if you altered them with something like candybar or did it manually.
Having said that, you should always backup your stuff with time machine incase something does happen.
This is a very important step which will insure the safety of your files while doing things like updating or installing the OS.
Please exercise caution when doing things with a Hard Drive.

  • Will my MacbookPro still be under warranty if i format and reinstall mountain lion from scratch?

    Hello everyone,
as in title, will my MacbookPro still be under warranty if i format and reinstall mountain lion from scratch? After the release of mountain lion, bought it and reinstalled it on the previous version, but the system looks slightly slower. So my thought was to format and install it from scratch. But being my computer 1 month old, will this influence my warranty?Thank you for answers.Cheers.M

Reinstall doesn't broke the warranty, so you can reinstall OS X Mountain Lion

  • Reinstall lion due to missing recovery partition?

    Dear Apple Community,
Here is my situation: I have a 3-partioned drive inside my iMac. One has Lion installed, one has SL, and another is an empty partion. Unfortunatly, there is no recovery partition installed on my computer. While I am fully aware that you can boot from an internet connection and run Installation/Utility services remotely from Apple's servers, I'd like to install a local recovery partition for more convience and peace of mind, should anything go wrong in the future.
How can I reinstall Lion without losing my data? I currently keep up to date Time Machine backups on an external drive. Can I run the "Install Lion" app to easily recreate the Recovery Partition? Would I have to wait 6 hours while I Reinstall Lion, then do a Time Machine Recovery?
Just wondering if I could get some feedback on the best move here. I know there are a couple of options. Thanks for any help!

You can reinstall Lion right over the top of the current install and not lose any data on your computer.
But I'm not sure that will recreate the recovery partition. It should I'm but I'm not sure it it will.
Have you run Software Update? it has been my experience that if the recover HD is not present SU will see that and download the correct files to recreate it. Buit again this was on my MBP when I did a reinstall of 10.7.1.
If you choose to do the reinstall make sure you SAVE the downloaded files and create your own Lion Install USB Thumb drive for future use.
There are instructions all over the net to do this and I have been using a nice little program to create the USB drive. The program is called LionDiskMaker, it works very well for this.

  • Reinstall Mac Os X 10.9 from Recovery Partition

Hi, I have some problems with my Os X, and I want to reinstall it from Recovery Partition. I'm wondering, will I lose all my files after reinstalling?

If you erase and install OS X, you will lose all your data.
If you reinstall OS X, theoretically speaking, you should not lose any data. But there is no guarantee.
You should have a backup before undertaking any such action.
    Best.

Hello this is happening to us also (minus the Bluetooth speaker).  We can't figure out what is causing the data usage.  I turned off mobile data as soon s I activated the device, and got the message that unless I am connected to WiFi.....(that is exactly what I wanted). We watched Netflix for about three hours, then the alerts started.  Like you we have many devices connected and never used over 2GB now all of a sudden we have used it in a matter of hours.  My husband called Verizon  and got the usual doubting Thomas response.  I understand that they don't know my device settings.  So over the phone we check all the settings and turned  off every possible culprit eating up the data and end the call.  By now I have purchased another gig for the month!  Assured we are NOT using mobile data, we continue on the IE path to bliss.  HA!  A few hours later I check the mobile data usage on the Verizon website and that darn thing is still using data.  After two more phone calls and two VERY uneventful trips to the local store we were told to take out the sim card.  This has stopped the data usage, but it defeats the purpose of having the data plan.  I could have just stuck with my Surface.  Verizon sent us a new sim card.  Its been installed and I have set my homepage to Verizon mobile data usage (just kidding) but I am on that site a lot.   I am surprised at the number of complaints about this device.  When we called the Verizon support acted as though this was the first time they had heard about this.   Loved your post, you should write for a living.

  • Changed hard drive: need to reinstall the recovery partition

Hi everyone. Some days ago I took my MBP to an Apple Authorized Reseller to update the hard drive to a new one and now I have a new 1TB/7200RPM hard drive.
Everything is perfect, but I think that the recovery partition is missing. If I look in the iCloud panel, the "Find my Mac" service is disabled because "recovery partition is needed".
But, if I run "diskutil list" in the Terminal, here's the result:
    /dev/disk0
       #:                       TYPE NAME                    SIZE       IDENTIFIER
       0:      GUID_partition_scheme                        *1.0 TB     disk0
       1:                        EFI                         209.7 MB   disk0s1
       2:                  Apple_HFS Luke                    998.6 GB   disk0s2
       3:                 Apple_Boot                         1.4 GB     disk0s3
Is the disk0s3 the recovery partition? If it's the recovery partition, why "Find my Mac" can't see it? Do I need to update or reinstall the recovery partion?
    Here's a nice article I've found, but I don't know if it's right for my case: http://www.brunerd.com/blog/2012/03/21/update-create-lion-recoveryhd-partition-q uickly-without-reinstalling/
Waiting your answer. Thank you very much.

If you're referring to your disk0s3, I don't know. I don't know what that is or how it got there on your drive. I'm not sure if it should be deleted before you recreate your Recovery HD. Do a backup and then try the script and see what happens.
Not knowing what the technician did to put your system on the new hard drive, makes it difficult to tell you to delete disk0s3 before you put your Recovery HD on. I believe a normal install of ML onto a Mac OS X Extended-Journaled formatted hard drive with the GUID parition table has an EFI, Macintosh HD and Recovery partitions like below.
    $ diskutil list
    /dev/disk0
       #:                       TYPE NAME                    SIZE       IDENTIFIER
       0:      GUID_partition_scheme                        *500.1 GB   disk0
       1:                        EFI                         209.7 MB   disk0s1
       2:                  Apple_HFS Macintosh HD            499.2 GB   disk0s2
       3:                 Apple_Boot Recovery HD             650.0 MB   disk0s3

  • Unable to reinstall Mountain Lion from recovery partition

    Hi there,
I have formatted my main HDD partition and then boot from recovery partition. I have a MacBook Pro 2011 series. I have reinstalled my Mountain Lion following on screen instructions. But when It's says is OK and 100% installed and begin restart the system, it is unable to boot and automatically boot from recovery partition again.
Can anybody help me? What I have to do?
       Thanks in advance.
       vzuritae.

Why did you start this process in the first place? Was there something wrong with the original install of Mt Lion? Like your system wouldn't startup anymore?
I suspect it is a hardware problem and may be the drive is failing.
Is your Mac a Early or Late 2011 model. Did it come with Lion Pre-installed?
If it came with Lion Preinstalled then you can use the Online Internet Recovery system to first reinstall Lion. At startup hold down the Command+Option/Alt+r keys until you see a spinning globe in the center of the screen. From that screen select Disk Utility and Re-Partition the drive as One partition. Then close DU and select Reinstall Mac OS X. If after the install of Lion is downloaded and finishes the install your system still refuses to boot up properly then you have a hardware problem and only Apple can fix a hardware problem.
