Is retro installation possible?

Hi there, Please excuse any mistakes or misunderstandings on my part as I'm brand new to Mac's and the way they work. I finally made the change over from windows based PC's after 15 years only to find out that OS X 10.6.4 (the most up to date version I believe) will not run my beloved Photoshop 7.0 (my preferred version and main reason for buying the Mac). I also searched for 2 weeks on eBay to find a mac version of it too! After a little research, or should I say a "confusing headache", I learned all about the "Classic Environment" and of course, the lack of it on my up to date system. I read about "BootCamp" and "SheepShaver" and it all sounds lovely........ if you want to sit there for hours setting it up, finding old serial no's and searching the internet for valid "ROM's" and of course, why make a superior machine act and perform like an inferior one??? . . . sigh . . .
Can I reformat/wipe my new mac and install OS 9.x? am I right in believing OS 9 supports the Classic Environment?
Will OS 9.x even run on my intel based system?
If I can, and it does, will I be haunted forever by a "Updates Available" notification? and finally,
Anyone know where I can get a free copy of OS 9.x?
.......On second thoughts,...... anyone want to buy a Mac!! . . .only joking, any help would be appreciated.
Kind Regards, Chris

Thanks for the info Sig, I'm the proud owner of both PC and Mac versions of photoshop 7.0 now, fat lot of good it does though! I'll have a look into "Parallels" but I think your right, its finally dawning on me I'm going to have to get a newer version of Photoshop, I have no hair left since buying my mac mmmmm, there doesn't seem to be £500+ under my mattress, mmmmm, I know! plan B.
. . . . . . anyone want to buy a kidney??? . . . C'mon people . . . only one left! (the other went on buying my mac!!!)

  • MacBook Pro with 2 HDs and 2 Mac OS X installs, possible conflict?

I have just installed an SSD drive in replacement of my optical drive in my MacBook Pro. On the new drive, I did a fresh Mac OS X install and kept the old Mac OS X install on the old, original HD. I intend on formatting the old HD eventually, but I wanted to take my time to move files to the new HD manually.
I am experiencing issues with the fresh Mac OS X install on boot and only on boot. The new SSD drive has been selected as the default booting device.
On boot, I'll be greeted with either :
The prohibitory sign (circle with diagonal line), which will flash for a couple of seconds before booting Mac OS X from the old HD
A spinning wheel, which will turn for a couple of seconds before booting Mac OS X from the old HD
A spinning wheel, which will spin forever
If I boot in HD boot selection mode or whatever (holding Alt on boot), I am able to select the drive I wish to boot from and Mac OS X will boot flawlesly in a matter of seconds.
Is it possible that 2 Mac OS X installs on different HDs could cause such a conflict? Could formatting the old HD solve this issue?
    Thank you!

  • Form 6i installation possible?

    Hi All...
Oracle devsuite 10g installed on my m/c and I want to install forms 6i on same m/c It is possible or conflict occure???
    Pl help.
    S.

I know what you wrote. I fear, that the sequence, in which the registry-keys are created through the installations is important for forms 6i. So it might be possible, that you can't install 6i after the 10g installation, because the HOME2 of 6i is higher than the HOME1 from 10g and can't be used correctly.
Sometimes it is as important to hear, that something is impossible as to hear nothing from nobody in the forum

  • Is Win7 installation possible on Satellite A100-551?

Satellite A100-551 with XP. Is it possible to pass in WINDOWS 7 ?
Because Microsoft does not make any more of supports on Windows xp and me advice (council) to put my PC in Windows 7.
Is it possible to make him(it)?

    Hi
Long time ago Ive made some experiments with my old Satellite M70 and Win7 installation and I was able to use it, of course with not all Toshiba specific tools and utilities but it worked pretty well
So in my opinion you should be able to install Win7 32bit on your old Satellite P100.
Ive checked Toshiba download page on http://www.toshiba.eu/innovation/download_drivers_bios.jsp and your machine is supported for Vista so after Win7 installation try to install some Vista drivers. I hope most of them can be used with Win7 too.
Just test it. generally speaking there is nothing left to lose.

  • Safari Automatically Launched an Installer - Possible Bug?

Hello, today I was searching for some midi files on google. I clicked on a search result and up popped an installer window that wanted to install a program called ****4Mac. I immediately quite the installer. Is this a possible problem with Safari? I wouldn't think that it should allow these to open automatically. At least in order for it to install you would have to go through the installer. I have included the link to the page so you can see what I am talking about.
DO NOT GO TO THIS LINK WITHOUT READING THE ABOVE!!!!!
    http://mnafaref6.net/126362/

    Hi wnichol
that's all too common I'm afraid...there's actually nothing to fear unless you actually run the installer it downloads, which will ask for an admin password & go on to modify your mac's settings so that when you try to reach a website, you could be redirected anywhere that the bad guys choose. If they were clever for example, they might only redirect financial websites... and you'd be taken to a convincing looking fake of your bank, which'd try to get passwords/login names etc etc - more commonly though, you'd simply get frequent ** sites .
there's a good basic explanation here at macworld & great detail on how it works here.
there's a free removal tool at http://www.dnschanger.com/ which has been widely used by people on these & other forums.
there's a lot of detail at http://tacit.livejournal.com/240750.html on the wider picture that this is part of.

  • Oracle Solaris 10 x86 64bit Client Installation Possibly Missing A File

Does anyone know if the download at:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/database/oracle10g/htdocs/10201solx8664soft.html
    named:
    10201_client_solx86_64.zip (551,795,800 bytes) (cksum - 2931690409)
Should have a file named oraparamsilent.ini?
The equivalent 32 bit zip does have the file and it is referenced in the 64 bit installation documentation.

    Hi Timothy
In the case that you need to do a silent installation then yes you will need the file
    oraparamsilent.ini
    Read the following documentation

  • Filemaker installation possible due to Tomcat?

    Hi,
I got a message from the software creators Advanter (http://www.advanter.de/index.php?ID=203), that they will need to install Filemaker with Tomcat, so that I need to disable Tomcat on the OS X Server. Two Tomcat instances would interfere.
Has anyone experiences with two Tomcat installations? I'm not sure if OS X Server uses Tomcat for wikis and blogs. If not, how can I disable Tomcat?
    Thanks a lot!

There are explicit steps required to enable Tomcat on recent releases.
Server Admin > select server > Web > General > checkbox: Enable Tomcat.
If you don't have it enabled and you have what you need running, you're good to go. And if Tomcat is running, it's usually got something visible on port 8080, and visible via your web browser.
Are you running Tomcat now? If not and if you have what web services you want already running, you're good. If you are running Tomcat, then disable it as a test, and see if you have what you want.
AFAIK, none of the Apple web-facing content management uses Jakarta/Tomcat/J2EE JavaServelet Pages (JSP files); it's largely written php and python, from what I've looked at.
For some background on Tomcat on Mac OS X Server, see the [Web Services Administration manual|http://images.apple.com/server/macosx/docs/WebTech_Adminv10.6.pdf].

  • Tiger-Installation possible with grey Installationdiscs?

    Hello everybody,
is it possible to install Tiger on a 14" G4 iBook, "Panther", 1,3Ghz with the grey Installationdiscs of a machine with same specification? They are quite cheap on ebay..., or is at least the black upgrade-DVD necessary?
    Thanks for help!
    Greetings from Berlin

The 14" 1.33GHz iBook came with OS 10.3.5 pre-installed, so I don't believe that the eBay grey Tiger install disc can be from a Mac with the same specification as yours.
You will need a retail Tiger DVD install disc. But, Tiger install DVDs are in short supply. Tiger is no longer available at the Apple Store but is still available for $129 by calling Apple Phone Sales @ 1-800-MY-APPLE (1-800-692-7753). For other sources, do a Google search for MA453Z/A and M9639Z/A . Also look on eBay. Be sure & buy a retail version (black with silver X) and not a model specific version (gray).
Also check this web store http://www.lacomputercompany.com/cgi-bin/rpcart/index.cgi?command=dispitem&type= sku&sku=19521
Possible Alternative - OS X Tiger 10.4 Upgrade DVD $74.95

  • Is update installation possible for inDesign installed Extension built in CS Extension Builder?

    Hi
    Hope everyone is enjoying.
I have built an extention for Adobe Indesing in CS Extension Builder. I installed the .zxp file using CS Extension Manager. But when I reinstall after updating the extension, Extension Manager shows message
"The extension you are about to install conflicts with the following extions. Do you want to remove the following extensions and continue installation?"
I  want to show an "update found" message for this extension instead of the default message.
Can anybody help me doing this?
    Best regards
    Sal

    Hi Sal,
I don't think that's a supported workflow. You might want to think about posting your extension onto Adobe Exchange which can manage updates for you.

Can anybody help me installing xp pro on the M50-226??
    THX

    Hi
I had the same problem. You need a win XP cd with service pack 2. If you don't have it you can integrate (slipstream) SP2 to your existing CD and keeping the same serial number and averything. The procedure involves copying your CD to a HD, downloading SP2 from microsoft.com, getting a software with which you can extract the boot image, running some commands and burning the result to an empty CD. There are some easy to follow HOWTOs on the web but you need a working windows XP PC to perform this.
    Hope this helps.

  • Help please - Bricked Phone - Now no email setup or app installation possible!

    Hello,
I'm new here and I've searched your posts looking for a solution to my problem but nothing seems to work.
My phone (curve 8520) was bricked/nuked and I fixed it following these instructions http://crackberry.com/blackberry-101-lecture-12-how-reload-operating-system-nuked-blackberry.
All went well except for the fact that I lost the email setup icon on my phone.
I tried using this link http://www.mobileemail.vodafone.pt/ but they tell me I have to use my phone to do it. When I try it using my phone it won't let me and I receive a message telling me that I need to contact my network provider.
After this I tried a security wipe. Nothing.
Today I tried installing facebook and got this message "Download Failed 907 Invalid COD"
After that I tried following these steps http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/BlackBerry-Bold/Done-a-Security-Wipe-and-now-can-t-set-up-my-... but I dont get any message after registering HRT (http://btsc.webapps.blackberry.com/btsc/viewdocument.do?externalId=KB00510&sliceId=2&cmd=displayKC&d...
Does anyone know what's wrong with my phone? Can it be fixed?
I need email on my phone for work...
    Thanks!

Given that, you need to talk to your mobile service provider...it is their network that your BB must attach to, and for some reason it is not doing so. But, since it is their network, you need their formal support to resolve this.

  • Second installation possible on new machine?

Hello. I have a copy of DW MX 04 that I bought back then. It was residing on my Dell. Now I have a Macintosh using the Leopard OS and want to install that software. It will install but won't work, telling me I need a new serial number. Can't I run my copy of this software on this new computer? HOW? I spent four hours on chat and the phone with some nicve people in India today and got nowhere.
Thanks for any advice. I know someone out there has run into this one before!
    J. Kumiski

Understood although you could apply the same argument to 32 bit and 64 bit code with the opposite conclusion, couldn't you? Completely different code but the same serial no because it's the same side of the OS fence.
How strong is the link between engineering effort and final price charged to the end user, especially given the extreme difference in pricing for identical Adobe products on the same OS in different countries? Local taxes only account for a fraction of the difference.
Seems to me that whatever the market will pay is what they'll charge so I'm not clear on the reasons for not offering serial numbers which work on both Windows and Mac.

  • Installation of Solaris 10 on SUN Sparc M4000

    Hi
I am trying to install Solaris 10 on SUN SPARC M4000.
Here is the error I have:
    +Enter filename [kernel/sparcv9/unix]: /platform/sun4v/kernel/sparcv9/unix+
    +Enter default directory for modules [platform/sun4v/kernel /kernel /usr/kernel]:+
krtld: load_exec: fail to expand cpu/$CPU
krtld: error during initial load/link phase
panic - boot: exitto64 returned from client program
    Program terminated
It seems that version of Solaris I trying to install is not support by the Hardware, when I use another Solaris 10 DVD, it works...
But the problem is that I need to install this Solaris version because others softwares are depending on that.
If someone knows how to make this installation possible, it will be very helpfull.
    Thanks in advance.
