Is S.M.A.R.T status supported on iMac g5?

I note that when I open the Disk Utility, it shows that the drive is not S.M.A.R.T supported? Should it be?

Your internal hard drive should show as verified. If it doesn't, back up pronto and then run diagnostics.

  • WHY IS S.M.A.R.T STATUS SUPPORTED ON ATA BUS BUT NOT ON SCSI?

    I have 4 internal HD's on a G4 733 S-Drive (Digital Audio) running X.4.4
    and my question is:
Why is S.M.A.R.T STATUS supported on the ATA bus but not on the SCSI bus?
Is there something wrong with my computer if only 2 of the 4 internal HD's read "Verified" and the other two state "SMART STATUS NOT SUPPORTED"?
The only reason I noticed this is because I decided to clone my main HD running X.4.2 (supported) to a larger 7200 rpm HD connected to the SCSI. My Main HD is in position one on the ATA Bus. All four internal hard drives are currently running well although the SCSI bus was a bit slower upon startup only. So I updated the cloned HD to X.4.4 and then loaded iLife '06 to the cloned drive just to make sure all runs as expected. Which it did.
I ran apple's DU on all four internal HD's and all of them showed the green writing with No red lettering. But can someone please help me interpret the following from apple's DU on each HD which reads follows:
    Disk Description : IBM-IC35L060AVER07-0 Total Capacity : 57.3 GB (61,492,838,400 Bytes)

    Hi, SD!
I haven't found anything specific on this, but I have always been under the impression that S.M.A.R.T. simply doesn't work with SCSI or externals. In my own experience, if I switch a drive from FW to my IDE bus, it reports. If I switch from the IDE bus to FW, the drive's S.M.A.R.T isn't supported.
Other than being unable to actually run and verify S.M.A.R.T. on your SCSI or external drives, I really don't think that you need be concerned with the "not supported" message, which simply is telling you that the particular drive or bus can't run S.M.A.R.T. (man! I hate typing all those "periods"...).
It also isn't supported on some old hard drives, even if they're connected to the IDE bus (like those 6-10 giggers I scrounge from ancient PCs that my friends and relatives junk when they finally switch and get new Macs...)

    Gary

If I submitted an adapter exchange request online on 14 October 2008 and have not yet received the new adapter and return shipment info for the old adapter, how do I request follow-up assistance/support using the Online Assistant or directly via e-mail? The Online assistant indicates that I have no outstanding service requests and does not provide an option or contact information by which to submit a new request. Subsequent duplicate Adapter Exchange Program requests are rejected without providing a follow-up option or online/email support contact information. Please advise???

    Hello PatrickPicasso,
If the Exchange Program website doesn't provide any information regarding the replacement request you will want to contact Technical Support per:

That is true.   PPC apps cannot be used with 10.7, 10.8 or 10.9 OS systems.  You may need to buy the new iPhoto app from the app store, depending on what you upgraded to Mountain Lion from.

  • 64 bit support on iMac Core 2 Duo under Tiger 10.4.10 ?

    Hi,
everywhere I read that my iMac Core 2 Duo is supposed to support 64bit applications, or it least is "64bit ready". What does this precisely mean for Tiger? I am running 10.4.10.
The concrete problem I have is that Mathematica 6 is supposedly supporting 64bit on Intel, one just needs to rename the Kernel; a 64 bit Kernel is included. See http://support.wolfram.com/mathematica/systems/macintosh/osx/32bitratherthan64bi t.html
However, it does not even run on the command line, where it gives an error:
    iMac.local:MacOS => MathKernel64
tcsh: MathKernel64: Bad CPU type in executable.
    lipo tells me:
    iMac.local:MacOS => lipo -detailed_info MathKernel64
input file MathKernel64 is not a fat file
    Non-fat file: MathKernel64 is architecture: x86_64
On the other hand, the architecture of the other running apps is i386.
I gather that architecture x86_64 is not supported on my iMac?
The makers of Mathematica, on the other hand, clearly say that it should run on my Core 2 Duo iMac under 10.4.10.
So I am confused; do I have to wait for Leopard?

Yes, this thread is older and newer....
Parts of Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger are 64-bit, and parts are not.
Per published information, a whole lot more of the Mac OS X environment is going to 64-bit; Tiger had 64-bit at the Unix level, while Leopard is expected to bring rather more to the table.
    Published high-level details:
    http://www.apple.com/macosx/leopard/technology/64bit.html
    http://developer.apple.com/leopard/overview/
For low-level details and such related to Leopard, those are under NDA up until they're not under NDA. Mayhap clarification arrives sometime next month?
The x86-64 construct is a name for what Intel once called its EM64T extensions and what it now (in aggregate) refers to as its Intel 64 architecture. Not to be confused with IA-64, which is Itanium, nor with IA-32 which is the 32-bit x86 stuff; x86-32. AMD64 is what AMD has called its extensions, and these are compatible with Intel 64.
Yes, the Intel Core 2 processors and the Intel Xeon 5100 series processors can and do have 64-bit addressing support. But there's a whole lot more to this than the processor itself, as assumptions of the address size tend to permeate an operating system and interfaces and applications; APIs and data structures are notorious for harboring these assumptions. Run-time code can and does tend to make pointer size assumptions here, too.
"64-bit Ready" means that once the software and applications get around to it, the hardware is expected to be ready. It doesn't mean that it'll all work together flawlessly, unfortunately.
Since the makers of Mathematica have provided the bits here and it is the Mathematica bits that are reporting errors, I'd have to assume they're the best ones to look at this. Check with Mathematica.

  • Multiple line voltage support for iMac

I see from the tech specs that the 2010 iMacs support line voltages from 100v to 240v. I'm thinking of buying one soon in CA, but may be moving to Germany later this year. Can someone confirm that the iMac power supply supports 110v and 220v?

Good luck...for a North American, Europe is a great place to live, at least for a time...the difference in distances from place to place after NA is something. Go from Paris to Heidleberg for a day...quick and easy highway system...no speed limit on the AutoBahn between cities...great beer and wine and sausage, etc.
And the history you can see. Living there vs visiting makes all the difference in the world.

  • WWAN Support Update 1.0 how come no support for imac intel?

imac intel   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Agreed. I think it's pretty presumptuous of Apple to decide how we are going to use our computers.
Being able to use my U720 on the iMac would be quite handy in a number of situations. As it is, we're forced to use a router, (none of which support the U720 very well at this point)

  • DVD-RAM support for iMac (late 2006)

    Hello,
    according to the thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=4755862
    I have a iMac C2D 2,16GHZ and a Pioneer DVR-K06 DVD Drive
According the pioneer specifications this drive supports DVD-RAM read and write.
But it isn't possible. Why? DVD-RAM is ideal to backup data. It can be rewritten over 100,000 times (DVD±RW approx. 1,000 times)
It is possible that Apple supply a firmware update that allows to read and burn DVD-RAM?
    Message was edited by: raymondvetter

Thank you and SG for your responses.
Several of my TV's DVD Recorder features are not available with the use of a regular DVD disc and require a DVD RAM disc (chapters, etc.) So I decided to do some experimenting and cross checking of the DVD Recorder and my computer DVD-RAM supported DVD burner/Premiere Elements with regard to disc types for DVD-VIDEO. That is what got us to my question.
Several months ago, I got involved in someone else's issue where he could not rip content from a DVD disc which had its origins in a camcorder that recorded to either a DVD-R or DVD-RAM disc. I suspect that my mini test ran into similar issues, that is, DVD-R with the recording format of DVD-VIDEO and DVD-RAM with the recording format of VR. (I added this explanation to clean up my previous misspoken comment about DVD-VIDEO format having a different folder/file structure depending on whether a DVD-R or DVD RAM was involved.)

  • Latest software OS supported for iMac G5

    Hi-
I have an old iMac G5 that runs great but is being left in the new OS dust.  What is the latest OS version this machine will support.  I am currently running 10.4..11.  If newer software exists, where can I download it?
    Thanks-
    DMitz

The latest software that you can use is Leopard - 10.5.8 is as far as you can go.  You can't download it, you'll have to buy it, either from Apple or eBay or Google for it.  Just make sure that you buy the RETAIL version with a black X on the front, grey discs are machine specific and won't work.

    cooperation will be greatly appreciated
    Essam

    Hi,
In addition to Mr.Brahmankar mentioned ways, you can exclude material from MRP run by selecting Procurement Type as No Procurement in MRP-2 View in Material Master.
Also you can select X-plant / Plant specific Material status as :
01     Blocked for procment/whse to block materila from MRP run.
    Hope this helps.
    Revert if any doubt.

  • Mini-DVI to VGA supports PowerBook G4 only?

    Hello everyone,
I just bought an LCD TV with a VGA port which allows you to use it as a computer monitor. I lost my mini-DVI to VGA that came with my computer, (iBook G4), and I was planning on buying one. However, when look at the specs on the website, it said it supported MacBooks, iMacs, and PowerBooks. However, the iBook is not mentioned. Does this mean that my iBook will have trouble using this adapter? If no problems, then will I be able to find it at CompUSA, because I didn't see it on the CompUSA website.
    Awaiting replies,
    iGabe

The iBook does not have the DVI output needed for that adapter. Your iBook should have come with an Apple VGA Display Adapter, part M8639G/A.
I don't see it on the Apple web-site but you might be able to get it here:
