Is Safari down?

I am still on ios 8.2 on Ipad and Safari will not open anything.  I tried my MacPro laptop and same thing happened.  My wifi is connected. My modem is also working.  Is there a current problem with Safari?  Websites are trying to load but go no where.  I then get a message Safari cannot connect.  HELP please.

Safari is an application that resides on your iPad. It connects to the web. It may have problems on your iPad but it cannot be "down" for all users.
Try the simple thing first. Quit Safari the reset your iPad. Double click the Home button to show the screen with running and recently used apps. Each app icon will have a sample page above it. Flick up on the page (not the app icon) and the page will fly away and the app icon will disappear. This quits that app. Then press and hold both the Home button and the Sleep/Wake button continuously until the Apple logo appears. Then release the button and let the device restart. You will not lose data doing this. It's like a computer reboot.

  • Bizarre problem: Safari down but Skype works

Very strange issue with my MBP. It connects seemingly fine to my work network, but Safari, Mail, and any other internet applications fail to access the net. Skype, strangely, works totally fine.
The network works fine for everyone else (and my Blackberry) so I don't think it's a router issue.
Initially, I suspected it was a AirPort issue, as on my list of networks, the network isn't showing the lock that denotes a secured network, even though the network is secured, and when it's worked successfully in the past, it's always displayed the lock. However, I also tried connecting to the router via ethernet and exactly same set of problems exist.
Network diagnostics seem to think everything's fine and that a successful internet connecting exists. I've tried changing the IP address via manual configuration (currently DHCP) with no joy, and have also tried deleting the network from the trusted list and removing its password from Keychain before connecting again from scratch, also without any success. I've also tried flushing the DNS cache.
My gut feeling says it's some sort of DNS connectivity issue, and Skype is connecting to the net in a slightly different way and therefore is unaffected... but as to how I go about actually fixing it, I'm stumped.
    Any help appreciated

    - What error message are y ogetting?
    - Frist try another network. Maybe the network is blocking those sitee.
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
    - Go to Settings>wifi>the connected network and change the DNS to Google's 8.8.8.8
In the future saying :ive tried everything" provides use with no information as to what you did try. If you truly tried everything there is not way anyone could help.

  • My Space Shuts Safari down after log in

After I log in to my myspace page safari shuts down. Any suggestions on how to gain access to my page?

Hi osugirl66, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Have you tried Clearing the Caches in Safari?
    Or better yet, get Applejack...
    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/19596
After installing, Reboot holding down CMD+s, (+s), then when the DOS like prompt shows, type in...
    applejack AUTO
Then let it do all 5 of it's things.
The 5 things it does are...
    Correct any Disk problems.
    Repair Permissions.
    Clear out Cache Files.
    Repair/check several plist files.
Dump the VM files for a fresh start.
At least if it doesn't fix it, it'll eliminate a few questions.

  • Cisco VPN slowing Safari down?

Has anyone use suffered a big slow-down in performance when running Cisco VPN within Leopard?
    Thanks, Francis

    Francis,
Based on the fact that the Leopard installation is zeroing-out the DNS fields in some cases, the below solution may resolve your speed issue.
You can add in the DNS address(s) by either going to System Preferences / Network and selecting your active network connection / DNS tab. OR you can go to Safari Preferences / Advanced and then click the "advanced" button which will take you to the System preferences panel.
The DNS server is provided by your ISP in most cases, or you can use the "Open DNS" servers at 208.67.222.222, & 208.67.220.220.

  • NASA TV shuts Safari down

Safari 5.0.3 and OmniWeb (basically a Safari-based browser, from what I can tell) both "vanish" when I go to watch NASA TV (www.nasa.org/ntv). No "crash report" window pops up. Safari simply ... quits.
The only other time I've seen anything like this happen is when I open a WMV file (I believe). Simply can't be done, for some reason.
Anyone else having trouble watching NASA tv?

http://www.nasa.gov/multimedia/nasatv/index.html click on QuickTime link, downloads a file, and it plays for me, in QuickTime Player.

  • Safari shuts down on Streaming Video (AVI or WMV)

Any time I go to a site that have streaming video (other than YouTube), Safari and Foxfire will lock up and shut down. It seems to happen when the video being streamed is an AVI or WMV file. I didn't have this problem with earlier versions of Mac OS. It would just go to the page and sit there and I could go back a page, now it locks up and shuts down. Anyone else having this problem?

Hi and Welcome to Apple Discussions...
YouTube streams video using the Flash plugin. Try uninstalling then reinstalling a new copy of the Flash Player plugin.
    Uninstall Flash
    Install Flash
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Empty Cache. When you are done with that...
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Reset Safari. Select the top 5 buttons and click Reset.
Go here for trouble shooting 3rd party plugins or input managers which might be causing the problem. Safari: Add-ons may cause Safari to unexpectedly quit or have performance issues
Web pages now include a small icon or 'favicon' which is visible in the address bar and next to bookmarks. These icons take up disk space and slow Safari down. It is possible to erase the icons from your computer and start fresh. *To delete Safari's icon cache using the Finder, open your user folder, navigate to ~/Library/Safari/ and move this file "webpageIcons.db to the Trash.*

  • Original iPad shutting down Safari randomly.

I have an up to date original iPad. It randomly shuts Safari down in the middle of a view of the page. How do I stop this?it happens mostly after following a link from Facebook or twitter. The page partly loads and then the whole thing shuts off and goes to the front Apps view.

Those shutdowns are usually caused by Safari running out of memory. To minimize the occurrences of this keep the number of open tabs in Safari to a minimum if possible.

  • Can't See Dark Safari's Tabs?  Move It Down To Eye Level.

I've seen a few posts here remarking that Safari's tabs and toolbar are dark enough to be unreadable on Leopard.
Having finally moved from my old 20-inch G5 to a new Intel machine, I've noticed the same problem. The tabs are so dark I can't tell where one ends and the next begins.
By chance, however, I noticed that this is controlled by Safari's position on the screen. I usually run it almost fullscreen, with the tabs and toolbars at the top of the screen.
However, if I move Safari down the screen so the tabs are level with, or below, the level of my eyes, they are quite legible and easy to read.
I'd still like to see Apple fiddle with the tabs and toolbars so this isn't an issue, but thought this might be useful info to others who are irritated because they can't see their tabs.

It's also possible that your screen suffers from "burn in" in which a section of it has less light output than other parts from the Safari menu sitting on one spot so long.
To check your screen, change the background to a solid light color and examine it closely.

  • Safari wont let me open links in new tabs anymore? Please help!?

On my Macbook, I'm using Safari as my browser.
Everything was fine until this morning; suddenly Safari will not give me the option of opening links from one page in another tab in the same window.
For example, if I'm browsing on EBay and want to open a search result in a new tab of the same window, usually when I would right click on my track pad or magic mouse, it would say "Open link in new tab" or "Open link in new window". However, now when I right click, it just says, "Open link" "Open link in new window" and "Copy link".
I haven't changed any settings or anything on my Macbook whatsoever in the last 3 hours (at least that I'm aware of). Can anyone please tell me how to get this back to normal?
Also, it seems that when I right click anywhere on a page, I only see the options "back" and "reload" whereas before there was "view source" etc.
    Please help!
    xx0

    Hi,
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Empty Cache.
Since you are running Snow Leopard, *make sure Safari is opening in 32-bit mode, not 64*. Right or control click the Safari icon in the Applications folder, then click: Get Info In the Get Info window click the black disclosure triangle next to General so it faces down. Select 32 bit mode. Also, (in that same window) *make sure Safari is NOT running in Rosetta.*

If Safari still won't let you open links in new tabs, go to the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari/Preferences. Make note of all the preferences under each tab. Quit Safari. Now go to ~/Library/Preferences and move this file com.apple.safari.plist to the Desktop. Relaunch Safari. If it's a successful launch, then that .plist file needs to be moved to the Trash.
If your forum profile is correct (10.6.1) go to the Apple Menu/Software Updates ...
Very important to keep your system software up to date.
If you install the 10.6.3 update make sure and repair disk permissions.
Quit any open applications/programs. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.

  • How to reset safari 8

How can I reset safari 8 on os x yosemite. I have redirect problem on my browser. I want to search things from toolbar using google but it redirects me to a different search engine. I checked all extensions there is no one there that seems wrong. please help me.

In OS X 10.10, with the new update to Safari, you can't simply reset Safari like before. Now you have to actually go in and manually disengage anything plugged in to safari.
This means entering the Library folders for both the system and user accounts affected by the Trovi/Conduit/Search protect redirect malwares.
First up is closing Safari down. Quit it, or Force Quit it using the Command/Option/Esc shortcut. Next up is to navigate to Finder and remove traces of the pest in your user files.
While some antivirus programs are great for this, avoid MacKeeper like the plague, it basically will do the same thing. Do not ever use it.
I should warn you, deleting files in this part may affect your computer adversely. When in doubt, TIME MACHINE BACKUP!!!!
Mouse up to the "Go" top menu selection, and hold down the Option/Alt key. Magically, the Library folder will appear, which you'll need to click on, and go in to. The file path should be something along the lines of /Users/YOURNAME/Library. Inside this are a few folders that you'll need to pop in and check out. Application Support is one of them, this will house anything dealing with preference files or misc files for programs or apps, including in some cases, search redirect add ons. Find the name of your assailant, be it Trovi, Conduit, or the plethora of others out there that hijack your browser (take note of the website it launches when you go to your homepage, check Safari's system preferences to double check prior to this dive into your system files).
Once you've located files associated with the program, Command/Delete them, or just delete them however you normally would. Securely empty the trash to ensure that even if they're in use, they will be deleted.
Next folder on the list is back in the Library, so head backwards in the File path and scroll down to Internet Plug-ins. Inside this folder is anything Safari uses, either intentionally or not. Clear anything in there that doesn't look right, this Folder is normally empty by default anyways.
Next folder for inspection is back in the Library folder, named Safari. This is the real bread and butter here, and where you'll find .plist files galore. You should open and clear Extensions folder, LastSession.plist, as well as the Local Storage folder. Do not delete folders in this enclosing Safari folder, only files.
Empty the trash securely again. Next up is to check the system Library folder for any lingering pest files. The filepath for this folder is simply inside the main drive, Library will be on the same hierarchy as Users, System, Applications, and so on. Open the Library folder, open Application Support folder, and again, check for anything suspicious. Anything inside this folder is a series of preference files for applications used by users/the system. Hopefully there should be nothing in this folder to delete, but on occasion you'll see Trovi or other folders in there.
The next folder to check, back up the ladder in to Library, is the Internet Plug-ins folder. This will contain files for you to delete, likely as .plugin files.
The final folder to check is back in the Library, called Preferences. This is where hunting and pecking will be a time consuming affair. You will likely have roughly 100+ files inside this folder, each of them is a com.whatever.whatever.plist file. These are pretty important files. Among these plist files will very likely be a trovi or conduit plist with a com.trovi.whatever.plist file name. Delete that little file, securely empty your trash.
The final process to finish this all up will be to set your homepage in Safari back to what it used to be. Open it up (WITH YOUR INTERNET CONNECTION OFF), go to your Safari preferences, input your homepage, then save that and close Safari. Restart the Mac, then turn on your Wifi/ethernet connection, and open Safari. It should be hijack-free.

HI and Welcome to Apple Discussions...
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Empty Cache. When you are done with that...
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Reset Safari. Select the top 5 buttons and click Reset.
Go here for trouble shooting 3rd party plugins or input managers which might be causing the problem.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1594
Web pages now include a small icon or 'favicon' which is visible in the address bar and next to bookmarks. These icons take up disk space and slow Safari down. It is possible to erase the icons from your computer and start fresh.
To delete Safari's icon cache using the Finder, open your user folder, navigate to ~/Library/Safari/ and move this file webpageIcons.db to the Trash.
And make sure Safari is not running in Rosetta. Right or control click the Safari icon in your Applications folder then click Get Info. In the Get Info window click the black disclosure triangle so it faces down. Where you see Open using Rosetta... make sure that is NOT selected.
Relaunch Safari. If Safari still crashes, go to the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari/Preferences. Make note of all the preferences under each tab. Quit Safari. Now go to ~/Library/Preferences and move this file com.apple.safari.plist to the Desktop. Relaunch Safari. If it's a successful launch, then that .plist file needs to be moved to the Trash.
Login using a different user account and see if Safari crashes there. If it doesn't the the problem is just with your user account not system wide.
    Try booting in Safe Mode
That process empties font caches and might help.

  • Safari doesn't open right away?

Ok....I saw 2 days ago that after I turn my computer on or I restart it and I want to open safari, I click 3-4 times ( and nothing happens) before I can open it. I have all the updates done. Why is this happening and what can I do to fix it?
Thank you all for your help.
    Ioana

    HI,
Make sure you have enough free disk space. Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. Make sure you always have a *minimum of 10% to 15% free disk space at all times.*
Please take a moment and click My Settings on the right side of this page and tell us whichMac OS X version you are running. Thanks...
If you are running Snow Leopard 10.6, *make sure Safari is opening in 32-bit mode, not 64*. Right or control click the Safari icon in the Applications folder, then click: Get Info In the Get Info window click the black disclosure triangle next to General so it faces down. Select 32 bit mode. Also, (in that same window) *make sure Safari is NOT running in Rosetta.*

  • Slow browsing with safari 3.1.2 - Any issues to watch out for?

    Greetings,
I run Safari on my MBM on a HughesNet satellite based internet connection. Iffy at best - nowhere close to DSL. Quite a few ups and downs in service during the day ( according, as Hughes vaguely states, High Usage times, which seem now to extend to MOST of the time. Advice: try BEFORE you buy into satellite Internet - TechSupp, provided by "Sam", "Joey", etc... from Far East, is heavily scripted abd basically clueless - "Sam, we sleep in the US at 3am MST - High Usage cannot possibly be occurring at that time!!")
i have noticed however that overall, Safari can get very slow, and hesitant in loading pages, even when internet connection is half decent. IN FACT, sometimes, my iPhone loads up a given page faster then my MBP from a given location, when I have BOTH the MBP and the iPhone on WiFi through my wireless router and positioned next to each other.
    I'll appreciate,
    - Roger T
Any general pointers as to what can slow Safari down (browser settings, w. card settings)?

Going through some or all of this might help:
Empty Safari's cache (from the Safari menu), then close Safari.
Go to Home/Library/Safari and delete the following files:
    form values
    download.plist
Then go to Home/Library/Preferences and delete
    com.apple.Safari.plist
    Repair permissions (in Disk Utility).
Start up Safari again, and things should have improved.
If not, MacFixit have published a very detailed (very!) article on speeding up a slow Safari, here:
    http://www.macfixit.com/article.php?story=20070416000657464
Many, including me, have also followed the advice given by others here to add DNS codes to their Network Settings, with good results in terms of speed-up:
Open System Preferences/Network. Double click on your connection type, or select it in the drop-down menu. Click on TCP/IP and in the box marked 'DNS Servers' enter the following two numbers:
    208.67.222.220
    208.67.220.222
Click on Apply Now and close the window.
    Restart Safari, and repair permissions.
