Is solaris 2.5 sunOs 5.7 suitable to install iAs 6.5 or iAs 6.0 SP3?

Im having trobles when adding the licence key, because de libCstd.so.1 is not found. But in the installation guide there is no patch sugested for Solaris 7

iAS6.0SP3 and 6.5 are meant for solaris 6 and solaris 8. So it might not work with solaris 7. If you want to run iAS with solaris 7, you can add the patches asked for solaris 6 or solaris 8. But it is not guarented to work properly once after you add the patches.

Does any one has face this issue..

    Solution found:
First tried to login using "console login" when solaris booted up, before the desktop login window appeared. Then, run command "kdmconfig", changed the video device to X86 VESA compatible device, which is from the x86 driver and porting kit for solaris, then test/save and exit. After that, reboot the system. Now it is working, not perfect though (due to my old monitor) :)-

  • Solaris 8 Intel Installation Error: No suitable hard drives found

    HI!
I was trying to install the free Solaris 8 Intel Edition from CD. All devices were recognized. Afterwards, however, I get the message that no suitable place was found to store the installation image. What should a hard disk look like in order to qualify for Solaris?
My system contains several hard drives. The first one, were I would like to install Solaris, is empty without any partitions. Under normal cicumstances (Linux, Windows), I would assume that this is the best possible case for a new operationg system...
    Best regards
    Klaus

    Klaus,
I am having the exact same problem as you. I have the official Solaris CDs from Sun, but am not able to install Solaris on my PC. Installation progresses quite far - including screen, keyboard, time configuration - but then fails saying that it can't find any suitable HDDs.
I too, have two HDDs, one with Windows XP on it, and the other completely blank. However the Solaris installation does not recognise either of them.
I've even tried dis-connecting the Windows HDD in case it may have interfered somehow, but it has no affect.
Please see me message titled 'Intel Installation - Identifying HDDs' which I posted on this forum on 10th November. I haven't received any help on this issue.
Where do we go from here?

  • Confirm Relation between Solaris 9 and SunOS 5.9

    Hello,
I want to install ECC 6.0 on Oracle/Solaris.
    For ECC 6.0 installation ,service.sap.com/pam mentions solaris version should be SOLARIS/SPARC 9 or SOLARIS/SPARC 10 .
On my Solaris Server, when I execute "uname -a" i get,
    " SunOS 5.9 Sun4u Spac .. ".
I found following information about relation between Solaris and SunOs release,
    Solaris 10 --> SunOS 5.10
    Solaris 9 --> SunOS 5.9
    Solaris 8 --> SunOS 5.8
    Solaris 7 --> SunOS 5.7
Conclusion : So, as per above data, My OS version SunOS 5.9 corresponds to Solaris 9 which can support ECC 6.0 as per PAM.So installation is supported.
I would like to confirm above conclusion.
    Please share your views.

    Yes.
SunOS is the "old term" for the operating system.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solaris_(operating_system)
    <...>
On September 4, 1991, Sun announced that it would replace its existing BSD-derived Unix, SunOS 4, with one based on SVR4. This was identified internally as SunOS 5, but a new marketing name was introduced at the same time: Solaris 2.[4] While SunOS 4.1.x micro releases were retroactively named Solaris 1 by Sun, the Solaris name is almost exclusively used to refer to the SVR4-derived SunOS 5.0 and later

  • Solaris 10 on Dual Athlon MP, can't install, keeps rebooting

    Hi All,
I've been trying to install Solaris 10 onto my machine:

    2x AMD Athlon 2400+

It was to fast for me to read, so I thought I might be a little more lucky by attaching a serial console to my pc. This captured the following information:

Well I see some ACPI things there, so I tried to circumvent ACPI by one disabling ACPI in the BIOS, two, passing the user-acpi-options=0x2 to the kernel at boot time (tried also with just 2, 4 and 8, whatever they do :P).
The thing is, I kept getting exactly the same results, what's going on here? Is ACPI not disabled, is it not ACPI but something else? I've also tried it with less than 2GB RAM, since I read somebody had trouble installing with over 2GB RAM, but this wouldn't help either. Any help/tips/suggestions are greatly appreciated
My appologies if this thread seems similar I've posted the same question on an other place on the forum (before I found this place), but I think this is the place I should have posted this issue in the first place...

    SOLVED:
Disabled ECC in the bios (though Windows and Gentoo Linux show now trouble whatsoever with my ECC memory, solaris doesn't like it)

  • Solaris 8 + PHP 4.3.2 + Oracle 9i Instalation Hell

Hi, we've been trying to install PHP with oci8 in Solaris for ours.
The versions of the software we are using are:
    Oracle 9.2.0.1.0
    PHP 4.3.2
    Apache 1.3.28
    Solaris 8
We followed the directions from php.net and tried every sugestion in the oci8 manual section.
The farthes we got was full linking of apache and PHP, but when we started Apache with the ORACLE_HOME variable set to the correct directory, we got a core dump without any other message.
This is how we compiled apache + PHP
    ./configure with-apache=../apache_1.3.28 enable-track-vars
    with-oracle=/oracle9i  with-dom with-zlib  without-mysql
    with-oci8 without-pear
    make
    make install
    cd ../apache_1.3.28
    LDFLAGS=-R/usr/opt/csw/lib
    ./configure --activate-module=src/modules/php4/libphp4.a
    make
    make install
when gdb'ing the httpd process we get
Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault.
    0xfe9a0660 in slrac () from /oracle9i/lib/libclntsh.so.9.0
    Anyone got any pointers?

    Hi,
From memory, when we were compiling PHP 4.3.x on Sol 8 SPARC (64 bit) with Apache 1.3.2x and Oracle 9iR2, there was some kind of problem during compilation (using gcc) that stopped it from correctly finding the required Oracle 9i libraries.
Again from memory, we found the workaround by Googling on the Net and then doing a search and replace in the makefile prior to compilation (but after configuration), updating entries from /lib/ to /lib32/ or similar.
Don't remember the exact details, though I hope this is enough of a pointer to be helpful.

  • Solaris 10 10/08 x86 (Ultra 20 M2) install issues

    Morning everyone,
After backing my workstation up, I performed a full update of a fully patched (OS and BIOS) 11/06 Solaris 10 Ultra 20 M2 machine (Opteron 1210). However, shortly after installing I get repeated start failures, and even rebooting off of the 10/08 DVD gives me the exact same error. The error, which occurs right after detection of
ng0 and ng1, states (my comments are in <>):
    WARNING: /PCI@0,0/PCI108e,534d@5/disk@0,0 (sd0):
Error for command: read(10) Error Level: Retryable
    Requested Block: <number always varies. i.e. 138462966) Error Block:<same as requested block>
    Vendor: ATA Serial Number: <nothing>
    Sense Key: Aborted Command
ASC: 0x0 (no additional sense info), ASCQ: 0x0, FRU 0x0
Now, after first installed I got this error, but several reboot attempts got me into the working system, and I rebooted several times again and didn't see the error. I performed my regular restore (/export/home, /opt, ect..) and updated the system from Update Manager. However from that point forward, the machine will not get past this error. Now even performing a full re-install of 10/08 lands me with the same exact error.
The md5 checksum of the iso image checks out, and I've written/verified the data on the DVD with two different burning programs. I've even written the information to two different brands of DVD-R will no luck. The slices are standard UFS, and it's a plain Sun Workstation with 4G of memory.
Suggestions as to what the error is referring to? I've Googled and searched this forum in vain to see any thing that might relate, but no luck.
    Dave

An update for anyone who might run into a similar issue:
I narrowed down to an issue with the ata controller and 10/08 ( 05/08 works like a charm). In the release notes, the following entry appears:
"x86: ata Timeouts During Boot (6586621)
ata driver timeouts might occur during system boot on Intel multiprocessor systems. These timeouts occur when the root device is on a drive with the HBA controller bound to the legacy ata driver. These timeouts lead to a momentary hang, hard hang, or a panic during system boot with console messages similar to the following:"
So, even though this machine is running an AMD 1210 Opteron (perhaps the entry should read: ".. on x86 multiprocessor machines..." instead), I am affected by this bug.
I was able to successfully load u6 on the machine once, and once that happened 10/08 would fail with that ugly error message. However, by disabling the MP support in Solaris (in kbd mode so that Solaris only sees a single processor), it booted just fine.
Once I got into the working system (I assume I could have done it from a live CD like milax) I disabled the microcode support by following the instructions listed in Workaround 5 (mv/renaming the microcode entry). After multiple warm and cold restarts to test the functionality of the fix, the machine passed with flying colors.
Lastly, the other option, listed as Workaround 1, was to specify in the BIOS the use of AHCI mode. Unfortunately, the 1.52 BIOS does not offer this feature.

  • Solaris 10 rebooting / resetting loop after recent patchset install

I installed the latest patchset the other day and everything looked like it installed correctly, I received no errors. Afterwards and going to reboot, the system now is in a constant reboot loop.
Rebooting with command: boot / pci@0,6000000/pci@0/pci@8/pci@0/scsi@1/disk@0,0:a
The / file system (dev/rdsk/c0t0d0s0) is being checked
    Syncing file systems . . . Done
    rebooting . . .
    Restting . . .
I can get the machine to boot into failsafe, and I have backed out the last two kernel patches, because my support tech told me too to see if that was the cause of the problem, however that didn't really do anything it's still in this reboot loop.
If I try and get it too boot to single usermode, I get the same results of the constant reboots. Support really doesn't seem to know what else to do, so what I'm wondering is, if I boot to CD-Rom and do a reinstall of Solaris, will that keep all my data or will that format the drives? I'm wondering because we have a ton of data on it and I really don't want to lose it all.

    Matty79 wrote:
Therein lies the problem. The machine is on a disconnected network, so while I have no problem typing, it would require that I do exactly that. Type everything out to them as they can't pull data off of it remotely.Explorer is a software application you install to the box.
You run its script and it takes all that information for you, then saves everything in a single output file.
Even if it's a deprecated tool, it would still be good enough.
I'm wondering if this could be a firmware problem on the machine itself? As I tried to say in my first reply...
Yes, software patch bundles do need specific minimum OBP patch levels on certain systems. You haven't yet told anyone here what model your system actually is but when glancing at your device path to the disk drive, I made a guess.
As I also mentioned in my first reply, newer software patch levels can also effect how other hardware components like RAM might work and can suddenly reveal marginal DIMMs that used to work but aren't good enough any more.

  • System not suitable to install some games

hey im a relative novice, but had no problem when i bought my laptop satellite pro a40 back in october last year. over the past few months i ve had the problem that some games cannot be installed as the message:
'16 bit windows subsystem: the system file is not suitable for running ms-dos and microsoft windows applications' pops up. the odd thing is that some games it allows me to run off the disk but obviously i cant save them, and games that i could previously install it now doesnt allow me.
the games attempted include: x-beyond the frontier, fifa road to world cup 98, sid meiers civ 2 and tachyon the fringe. so a selection of old and new...

  • Is it possible to install Two iAS 6.5 SP2 instances on a single solaris box

    Hi,
I have iPlanet Application server 6.0 SP2 installed on sun solaris 2.7.
Now, I want to install one more instance of iAS (same version) on the same solaris box. Just wondering, is it possible, because i think in case of Sun One Apps Server 7 its not possible.
If its possible, is there any specific configuration I have to make ?
    Thanks in advance,
    Prakash

    Hello,
I think it is possible to have two instances of IAS 6.5 on one machine because last year I had similar situation with IAS 6.5 Enterprise - I instaled it twice and put them in cluster. Things were just fine.
Each creation of instance of app server meant new installation of IAS software in different install folder, where second one used Directory Server installed durring the first installation.
I remember that I had only one Directory Server installation where each IAS instance had its own space for configuration data (by specifying diferent name for "IAS global config params" during the installation) and different set of port numbers for IAS processes. Finnaly, I put these two instances in a cluster...
IAS 7.0 (Sun One App server 7.0) has different approach regarding creating and configuring several app server instances, because creating one more instance of app server doesn't mean another installation of software...

  • Solaris 11/11 to 11.1 upgrade procedure

    All,
I'm using a vbox s11 instance as an install server and need to upgrade it to 11.1, and then serve 11.1 from that. Having trouble working out what's actually needed.
What does the 'pre-upgrade' iso actually do and is it needed, or can you just update directly from an 11.1 repo image? Not having had two versions of S11 on an install server before, how does the 11.1 full repo co-exist with the 11/11 repo that's already there? In S10 I would simply have made another directory for it but now things aren't so clear.
Anyone done this upgrade and know what's going on?
    cm/

Here's an example of how IPS can leave a bad taste. I call this getting wedged into an incorporation spaghetti mess:
I have followed the steps listed here for updating from the release repo to the tee. At the last step halted here. I know I could sort through this given enough time, but that's the point - a time waster. Hoping someone with x-ray vision can see through to the root problem. Perhaps not on 11 11 to start (see uname -a at bottom)? How then to roll back - a big issue in IPS, which wants to keep you rolling forward.

  • Sun Solaris 10 installation problem on IBM ThinkPad R31Notebook

    Hello,
I have tried to install Sun Solaris 10 on my IBM ThinkPad R31 notebook, but the system has problem at initial stage of loading the installation software from CD. Here is the message I see on the screen when the CD is loaded:
    loading stage2 ....

I changed both memory and the hard drive but I still have the same problem. Can anyone please tell me what the problem might be or what remedial step I should take to install Solaris 10 on R31?
    Thanks

Did you try install check CD before the installation?
I think that there might be two main reasons:
    1. Your computer is not supported
    2. Hard drive may need to be formated to FAT32 or UFS

  • Performance of dd in solaris 10

I ran a test the other day of dd'ing an entire 9g drive to another 9g driver under solaris 9, and solaris 10. solaris 10 was 2x faster. I know sun had been working on performance enhancements, and had speeded up system calls and such, but this seems like a huge enhancement, esp for something that seems low level like dd. Does anybody have an explanation on what made dd so much faster under solaris 10 ?
I'll be looking forward to finding other features like this in solaris 10!
    SunOS 5.9 Generic_112233-05 sun4u sparc SUNW,UltraSPARC-IIi-Engine
    # time dd bs=2048k if=/dev/rdsk/c1t1d0s2 of=/dev/rdsk/c1t6d0s2
    4316+1 records in
    4316+1 records out
    real 59:22.2
    user 0.0
    sys 10.0
    SunOS 5.10 s10_69 sun4u sparc SUNW,UltraSPARC-IIi-Engine
    # time dd bs=2048k if=/dev/rdsk/c1t1d0s2 of=/dev/rdsk/c1t6d0s2
    4316+1 records in
    4316+1 records out
    real 31:39.8
    user 0.0
    sys 1.6

That is a happy surprise. In my tests of dd over the years, we
max out at the media speed of the device.
Also, was this an x86 platform? If so, check to see if
DMA is enabled. prtconf -pv and look for
    something like *-dma-enabled for the
    appropriate driver.
