  • Can we implement any spell check against Forms/OAF Page screen fields

    Hi,
I know its a weird requirement, but any chance that we can achieve this functionality?
We nee to do the spell check on few fields in forms/OAF Pages. Any guidance is very much appreciated.
    thanks,

  • I've lost spell check in almost every application [SOLVED]

I'm not sure what just happened, but I no longer have spell checking capability in nearly anything. OpenOffice, Firefox, and LyX just to name a few. It still works in Gedit, so something is happening. I have both Aspell and Ispell installed. I have the OpenOffice spelling package installed. I didn't really change much. In fact, the only thing I changed was removed some "orphans" to find out one of them was necessary to web browsing (nss-mdns... possible bug report later). I reinstalled all of them to see if it helped.
    And....
I also replaced my version of FF3 (firefox3-systemcairo) with the one in the repos, complete with the xulrunner update and such. Any connection here?
    --EDIT--
OpenOffice was a fluke. It turns out that the development branch is the only one suffering from this. I could have sworn it worked, but it's working. I'm probably wrong here.
    The others?

I removed my .lyx file, and spell checking is sort of working. It's not exactly what it use to be, but it's doing something. I can spell fairly well, I just like to write freely without worrying too much about stuff; That's what proof reading is for.

  • Spell check functionality in OA Framework

In the absence of spell check functionality for OA applications, is there any workaround or custom code to have a spell check functionality in OA framework. The customer does not want to use the Google spellcheker or JSpell.

  • Spell Checker errors & auto-correct gone mad

I have had a problem for awhile now with bad spell checking.
If I make a typo, the softeware learns the mispelled word - and edits properly spelled instances of the word to be wrong later.
    ("the softeware" - I don't know if its Apple's or a 3rd party's).
I am getting "Teh" errors, transpositions & complete case changes, for example words ending in "-ed" being changed
to "-ing" endings here & there. A few other recurring ones, as well.
Its acting like a keylogger associated with firmware in the darn keyboard!
I've run checks for spyware & keyloggers & they came up negative.
I can't tell if its in the core OS softeware, or being driven by a third party test drive.
I can't seem to shut off enough spell checking to solve the problem.
Example: the "e" in softeware above was an autocorrect, not what I typed & saw typed.
The corrections are more than "ie" & "ei" transpositions & sometimes involved letters across the keyboard.
Any ideas or solutions for this? Am I the only person with this problem?
(I tried to find a close enough topic, but they were either old & archived, or not really quite my issue).

How do you mean "don't know what software I'm using?"
If the phenomenon occurs across most apps that are word intensive, then it appears not to be tied to any one.
Something is recognizing a problem not there & "correcting" it, because I can see it happen & its not all due to operator error typos.
I gather there's predominantly one spell checker engine across most applications, not one for each, if the symptoms are broad. IF that can be pinned on a "spellcheck" function. It isn't strictly a spellcheck.
"Substitutions" yes is more accurate than calling it true spellchecking & I might be rmisrepresenting the phenomenon to call it that.
Whatever is causing it, is learning & auto-correcting words that were may or may not be wrong. 2 letter pairs is mostly what happens. Or a capitalization of the 2nd letter in a word, to match the first letter: "IT" paired at the beginning of a sentence is a common manifestation.
I can't find anything that could be left from an uninstalled test driven application.
Your pointing to "Language & Text" may be valuable. The "ie" & "ei" substitutions are fairly common & German was one of the language options turned on, along with French & Italian – although I'm not sure what that panel even controls. I'm removing all options except English.
I haven't seen a lot about this kind of thing on here, so I am assuming that its rare & likely something not part of the Apple suite of applications. I'm simply trying to narrow down what's going on.

  • How can add Greek Language to spell-checking dictionary?

How can I add a new language in the spell-checking dictionary that is not the given options, specifically Greek?
And if there is a way can I do it to other applications as well (Safari, Textedit etc.)?

Spell checking is not an application feature but a system one.
When a checker is installed, it is available for every modern application.
Is Grrek available in the list of languages available from
    System PrefPane entitled International ?
    If itsn't, install it.
Maybe this will connect a spellchecker too.
If it doesn't, grab a checker from cocoaSpell.

  • No more volume click or spell check.

Sometimes after my computer has been running for a while the click that the computer makes when you raise or lower the volume stops working. Spell chick also cuts out. I know that sounds odd but that is what it is doing.

    Hello Daniel:
I do not know what would cause the alert sound to stop working. In the case of spell checking, that is either on or off - again, I do not understand what would cause it to quit.
    "Checking spelling as you type
In many Mac OS X applications, you can have the application automatically check your spelling as you type. When you mistype or misspell a word, it's underlined in red so you can quickly spot errors and correct them.
Open the application that you want to use and choose Edit > Spelling > "Check Spelling as You Type."
If you don't see this item in the Edit menu, the application doesn't provide the Mac OS X spell-checking feature. The application may have its own spell-checker. Look in the application's preferences or menus for a spell-checker."

  • WGM: is it possible to disable Word 2008 spell check with WGM?

We have users that will use their macbooks to an exam where the teacher asks if htere is a possiblity to disable the spell check in Word.
Thanks for any help i can get ...
    OSX server 10.5.6

    Yes, this should be possible.
Applications store preferences in .plist files, which is basically all WGM does - controls plist files.
You'll want to first identify which attributes with com.microsoft.Word.plist you want to control via WGM (to disable spell check).
You may want to have Property List Editor installed (from developer tools - now on system administrator tools too) and open up /Users/yourusername/Library/Preferences/com.microsoft.Word.plist make a not of its settings. Then open word and change the settings necessary to turn off spell check. Then take a look at the plist file a minute afterward, you should notice some settings have changed. I think the setting may be "2008\Options\Options:AutoSpell", but you'll have to double-check.
Once you know the setting, make a note of it and what the value should be to disable spell check.
Now, open WGM and click a user, group, computer, or computer list object you want to control the spell check to. Click the preferences pane, then click 'DETAILS' (not Overview - which is default).
Now click the PLUS button and browse for the com.microsoft.word.plist from your home folder. You may want to select 'ALWAYS' instead of 'OFTEN' as well. Then click 'ADD'.
Once the plist is added to the list, double click it to edit it (you do not need property list editor for this part), and delete all of the attributes you do not need to control, you just want to leave the 1 or 2 attributes that toggle spell check to be off.
This should take care of it.

Is it possible to change the spell check dictionary in “pages for iPad” from Spanish to UK English?  The app was purchased in Spain and I am living in spain temporarily

Spell checking should be based on the keyboard layout that you've got selected in Settings > General > Keyboard > International Keyboards - if you have an English 'UK keyboard' selected then the spell checking should be English

  • Spell check for any application

Having only just my iphone I can't believe there is no spell check for the mail functionality. Aside from that why is spell check unavailable for yahoo and gmail through the web browser? Any ideas please...

Move the associated plist files for those applications out of /Library/Preferences/ within your home folder to the Desktop. E.g., com.apple.textedit.plist for TextEdit, quit and relaunch TextEdit, and re-enable spell as you type. If that fixes things, delete the moved file, and do the same with any other apps where it appears to be broken.

  • Is it possible to add languages for spell check in pages?

I was surprised to find that even though I bought iwork 09 in Norwegian, Norwegian is not on the list of languages one can choose from in the inspector, and I can not find the possibility of choosing norwegian spell-chek either??
Is there anyway to add languages to the spell-check function in pages??
grateful for tip (if there is a basic function i have overlooked) or other experiences!
    BR

You actually have a choice of both Norsk Nynorsk and Norsk Bokmål.
    First select your text then:
    +Inspector > Text (T tab) > More > Language > Norsk Nynorsk / Norsk Bokmål+
The method is to label the language you want to spell check with its native dictionary. So having done the above, when you spell check it will now use the Norwegian dictionaries.
see p 115 +Working with Spelling Suggestions+ in the Pages09_UserGuide.pdf downloadable from under the Help menu.
If you don't see the Norwegian options it is because you haven't added them in the International preferences in your System preferences:
    +Menu > Finder > System Preferences… > International > Language > Edit List… > Norsk Nynorsk and Norsk Bokmål > OK+
If you drag them to the top of your language list they become the System language. If you leave them lower down they are available in other menus such as Pages Inspector palette.

  • Lost the ability to spell check on all applications

I recently updated my system to Mavericks 10.9.4, since then I have lost the ability for spell checking in all applications. Check spelling while I type is not working and I am unable to check spelling manually through the app menus. Skype, Facebook, Notepad.. you name it, spelling correction functionality is no bueno. Has anyone ever heard of this? I have tried changing languages, booting in safe mode... the only thing I did notice was that the box to check "correct spelling automatically" won't stay checked, but clearly something else is wrong.

    1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
Don't be put off merely by the seeming complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
    2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. All it does is to collect information about the state of the computer. That information goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. However, you should be cautious about running any kind of program (not just a shell script) at the behest of a stranger. If you have doubts, search this site for other discussions in which this procedure has been followed without any report of ill effects. If you can't satisfy yourself that the instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
    4. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
    5. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
    6. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    7. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
    8. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "Syntax error" or "Event not found," enter
    exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
    9. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
    10. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
    [Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report the results. No harm will be done.
    11. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start Time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
    12. When you post the results, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "You are not authorized to post." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
Note: This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak only for themselves, and I don't necessarily agree with them.

  • Is it possible for pages spell check to not flag words that are found on wikipedia?

I'm using Pages 5.2.2 in OSX 10.9.5 and type lots of medical and science words into pages. These words are not found in the default dictionary and are thus flagged as misspelled words (red underline). They are found on wikipedia and I have enabled wikipedia in the dictionary app. For instance, the word "epiglottitis" is flagged. When I right click on it and select "Look up 'epiglottitis'", the dictionary popup opens and the word is found.
Is there a way to adjust the spell check settings so that it does not flag words that it can find on Wikipedia? If this could be done in iOS as well, it would be fantastic. Thanks!

Thanks! I also discovered that I can add dictionaries for the spellchecker in "Library > Spelling" and then go to "System Preferences > Keyboard > Text > Spelling > Set up..." and select them there, so that may be a faster way to add words to the spellchecker.
