Is sRAW not supported in Aperture?

Hello,
This question may have been discussed previously but I could not find an answer.
My Canon set to capture in RAW shows up in my Aperture. However if I capture the image in my camera as sRAW format and tried to import in Aperture : I get the following message "Image format is not supported"
If I take photos in sRAW I may have more space available in my camera's memory card is my thought!
Does any body know if I can take photos under sRAW?
regards

Or you could say that they are supported, but sharpening, moire and de-noise are not available (or just set to default), which is actually more Canon's fault. sRAW is a major mess and we're very lucky it's even supported in AP3, finally.

  • HT202020 Why are certain videos that I have taken with my iPhone 4 not supported by Aperture.

Why are certain videos that I have taken with my iPhone not supported by Aperture?  That's weird.  I expect that since both iPhone and Aperture are Apple products, file support should be seamless between the two.
Also, iPhone 4 does not appear as Camera Model in the metadata of the unsupported video file in Aperture .  But other videos I have taken with the same iPhone 4 appear in Aperture and the Camera Model appears correctly.  Why is that?

Have you done some cleaning and cleared caches on your Mac? Maybe the  com.apple.xpchelper.cache file is missing. Check the folder /System/Library/Caches/

If this file should be missing, you need to restore it from a backup or reinstall it by reinstalling your system.

panasonic tz60 raw not supported in Aperture 3. How to fix?
Aperture's raw support is camera specific. The list of currently supported cameras is here:
Apple - Aperture - Technical Specifications - RAW Support
Apple focusses on cameras, that are most likely used by professionals. Your camera is an excellent camera, and I wish I had it, but so far none of the cameras in the Panasonic Lumix tz-family have been supported in Aperture.  So send feedback to Apple, that you want this camera to be supported.  You can use this form for a feature request:  Apple - Aperture - Feedback
To be able to use your raw files in Aperture, you could try a few work-arounds:
Use the software, that came with your camera, to convert the files to another lossless format, eg. TIFF.
Or do, what I am doing with the raws from my Lumix FZ28 - download the free Adobe DNG converter and convert your RAWS to DNG format:  Adobe - Adobe Camera Raw and DNG Converter : For Macintosh, I don't know, if that will work for your tz60 files, but give it a try.
If you have hopes, that Apple will support the camera soon, shoot RAW&JPEG for the time being, and work with the JPEGs, until hopefully the raw support will be released.

  • Canon EOS 40D sRAW not supported

When I use sRAW with the Canon EOS 40D, sRAW format (1936 x 1288) comes back with "Invalid Image Format", when importing. Online postings imply that other Canon cameras, such as the EOS 5D Mark II, have the same issue. I am running the latest Aperture 2.1.3, with all updates. Any way to fix this, save for waiting for an update?

    Guys
    sRAW is not supported
Do a search of the forum - it has been covered loads of times
It is not mentioned as a supported format on the Aperture site
    http://www.apple.com/aperture/specs/#formats
Try using the feedback menu option in Aperture
    Hope this helps

  • Adobe DNG files not supported in Aperture 3.1.2?

Those of you that follow this forum may have read my previous post - https://discussions.apple.com/message/15009745#15009745 - about RAW files from my old Windows machine whice look fine in iPhoto, but when I imported my iPhoto library into Aperture 3 they have this red haze over them like a flash coloured gel.
As I said, the older files came from my old Windows machine, where they had been stored in Photoshop Elements, and in the past I had converted them from Canon's .CRW file format to Adobe's .DNG format. I've just checked in Aperture, and it is indeed only these which are washed out - all of the Canon .CRW files look fine, it's the Adobe .DNG files which are a mess. I'll hazard a guess that Aperture doesn't support the Adobe .DNG format I have and that is the issue, but why they are supported in iPhoto and no the professional app I can't imagine. A call to Apple tomorrow morning is in order to sort this one out I think unless any of this excellent forum's followers can offer help. Has anyone had a similar experience importing .DNG files into Aperture 3? I should add that they bad either form the original import from iPhoto, or directly importing into Aperture.
    Thanks James.

Hi Bob, here's a quote from the link Stephen provided:
"Adobe Camera RAW converted DNGs won’t work because the fine print of Apple’s DNG support shows that it only works with unconverted DNGs—and the new lensdata support of Adobe’s DNG specification generates converted DNGs. While, Adobe may disagree with me (and there is a good reason why they should), this is just the sort of moving-target that causes me to argue against converting to Adobe DNGs."
As I said in the post this provides some useful background information, but I can't imagine that iPhoto uses a better DNG converter than Aperture (although perhaps older, so maybe that's why I can see the files okay in iPhto and not Aperture?). As for my OS, it's the latest version, I've done two software update checks this week so would for sure have run that when it came around, but I appreciate yours and others thinking on this problem of mine.

  • Canon 60D CR2 not supported in Aperture 3.03

First CR2 images to go into Aperture today and all came up as 'Unsupported Image Format. Is something wrong here or is it just wait 'for an update'?

Yes! you can process RAW files in Aperture 3 from the NEW Canon 60D.
Some time ago I posted a message about how to do this using the free Adobe dng converter.
You download your camera files using the Canon software that comes with the camera. You then move all those CR2 files to your desk top. Then using the Adobe free dng converter you select the desk top folder holding the files from the camera and click convert. The RAW files are then converted file by file. You will find them on your desk top, CR2 file-dng file....Drag just the dng files into a new folder on the desk top. Then drag that folder containing the dng files straight into the Aperture icon. Ap3 then imports all the dng files ready for you to work on. Good Luck John T Sydney

  • Canon 7D Raw Support in Aperture 2 after installing Aperture 3 trial

    Hi!
I'm having a really weird problem! A few months ago I purchased Aperture 2 and have been working with it ever since. About a week ago I installed the Aperture 3 trial to see what the general differences are. After playing with it I noticed not enough "useful" changes compared to Aperture 2 to actually purchase Aperture 3. So I removed Aperture 3 and went back to my good old Aperture 2.
Two days ago I bought the Canon EOS 7D, but when connecting to my Mac the Raw files are not supported by Aperture 2! While I was trying out Aperture 3 I used software update to update Camera Raw as well and it seems that Camera Raw Update 3.2 enabled Aperture 3 to work with my 7D's raw files but disabled Aperture 2 to support them! I searched the Apple support pages for older versions of Camera Raw and came across version 2.7 which should enable Aperture 2 to work with the EOS 7D. But as expected, I cannot install 2.7 because 3.2 is already installed!
Does anyone know wether it's possible to "downgrade" camera raw to version 2.7? Or is there any other solution to my problem? It can not believe that an innocent Aperture 3 trial forces me to actually upgrade to Aperture 3 because Aperture 2 now refuses to support my brand new 7D?! Is there anyone on this forum familiar with this problem and able to help me? Many thanks in advance!
    Kind regards,
    Mick van Jaarsvelt

I am running with same type of problem. I have Aperture 2.0 and can not work the Raw files from my Canon 7D. I have no problems working Raw files from my old Rebel Canon camera. Did you solve your problem?

  • DNG not supported

On the Tiger site, Apple has written "DNG File Format Support - Open files in the new Adobe DNG (Digital Negative) format" (http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/pdf/). It's not the reality ! For example, Preview is unable to open a DNG created by a Leica Digital-Modul-R. The 10.4.10 uptade of Tiger has solved the problem for the Leica M8, but not for the Leica Digital-Modul-R. My old Photoshop CS has not this problem (and without uptades).
For Aperture, the compatibility with DNG is specified : it's OK. For Tiger, no restriction is indicated.

Leica RAW DNG file not supported by aperture ?
The raw support is camera specific. several leica cameras are supported by Aperture, some of the newest cameras are only supported in Aperture 3.4 or later.
If your camera is not yet on the list, use the software that came with your camera to develope the raw files, before importing them to Aperture.
Also see this footnote, in the link that stedman1 posted:
Aperture works with most DNG files generated from cameras that support this format and with DNG files generated by the Adobe DNG Converter with the “Convert to Linear Image” option turned off.

  • "one or more of the items in your selection contains Aperture albums that are not supported in iphoto".

I have some folders in iPhoto called 'Recovered Folder'. When I try to delete them I get this message: "one or more of the items in your selection contains Aperture albums that are not supported in iphoto".
I don't use Aperture (did install it to try it out), and have deleted Aperture App from my Mac.
How can I get rid of these fodlers?

    i finally figured this out:
fyi, iphoto and aperture can now share (i.e., access) the same library. apple details it here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5260?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
i use both iphoto and aperture, and i suspect something went amiss, at some point, while aperture was accessing my iphoto library.
this is how i fixed the problem:
i launched aperture, then (per the instructions linked above) switched to (i.e., accessed) my iphoto library. i was then able to delete the "recovered folder" and the album it contained. i then quit aperture and relaunched iphoto.
NOTE: at that time, although i expected the "recovered folder" to be gone, it was still present. but this time, i was able to delete the folder from within iphoto without the "contains aperture items" error message.
(Sparky030405, i realize you've since deleted aperture. while i can't say my method is the *only* way to solve this problem, it's the way i was able to solve it. so, you might consider reinstalling aperture in order to delete the folder, then uninstalling aperture, once again.)

  • Image cannot be rendered because Aperture does not support image format

    Dear all,
I have installed apple Aperture 3.03 and the complete Nick software plug-in selection:
    • Dfine 2.0 for Aperture
    • Color Efex Pro 3.0 Complete for Aperture
    • Silver Efex Pro for Aperture
    • Sharpener Pro 3.0 for Aperture
    • Viveza 2 for Aperture
    History
Until a few days ago the system was running ok / no notable issues on performance. / all pug in seem to run good / no issues. Also
    • I Run OSX10.4/ Aperture 3.03 ( 32Bit mode)
    • My library contains just over 10000 images / approximately 140GB
    • I have recently updated the OSX software update including the security update 2010-005
    • as well as the Snow leopard graphic update 1.0
    • As far as I am aware all updates where automatically recommended by OSX Software update ( no manual intervention).
    • As far as I remember after update the system still was running ok but honestly I can not tell you how many times the Nick Plug in started out of Aperture.
After all, Several times I continued using the system / still no noticeable problem until the following was happening:
    Problem:
After creating with "PT gui" a panoramic image File type: "TIF" Pixel size: 5112 × 2556 (13,1 MP) I imputed this file in to Aperture (drag and drop). During the attempt to eddied this file with "Nick Define 2.0" the system was hamming up No response for several minutes from Dfine 2.0 / Aperture" At the end I had to "force quit" the applications.
After the consequential reopening of Aperture I tried again to eddied images with any Nick software Plug-In but each time Aperture prepares any image previously stored in my Library ti open the Pug in the following Error message appears:
*"This image cannot be rendered for editing because Aperture does not support the image format"*
Currently non of my previously in the library safed images can be opened in a Nick software Plug-In this applies to all file types I have tied " Raw, tif, jpg"
    • I am still able to eddied normally with Aperture ( so far I do not find any other issue)
    • A newly imported Raw image after being taken with my EOS 5D can be edited in the completed Nick software Plug-In selection ( so far I do not find any other issue)
The following actions have been taken to overcome the issue (all not successful):
    • I restored my Library out of my back Up ( to previous time of event ( no Time machine back up)
    • Uninstallation of all Nick software Plug-In selection
    • Uninstallation Aperture Reinstallation Aperture / Nick software Plug-In selection
    • Repairing the library ( all three possibilities)
    • installation of latest EOS utilitys
    Questions
    • Can you support me to overcome this issue?
    • Have you heard similar issues of Nick user Running the Aperture plug-ins?
For me it is really strange that even after replacing the the library in my normally not connect back up the problem still exists (this should be not affected by the event as the back up was not done any more) / new imported images are editable with the Plug-In.
I would be happy if you could support me in this issue.
    Best regards,
    Matthias
PS: I have reported this issue to Apple (via Aperture feedback) as well as contacted the Nick software support and currently waiting for feedback.

    Dear Ma-Le / All
I have just had the same problem
    I use
    • Aperture 3.03 with a iMac 2.8 Intel Core 2 Duo with all files on external hard disks (mac extended fomat as apple suggests) with referenced masters.
    • Camera Nikon D300, with probably 75,000+ images on 2 hard drives
    • Photoshop CS2 with PhotoTools 2.5 plugin
This has been working perfectly until yesterday when the system froze when I was using PhotoTools 2.5 with Photoshop CS2 - as a result of which I resorted to a force quit.
Since then on most of my files it has not been possible to use an external editor.
A message appears saying: *Editing Error - This image cannot be rendered for editing because Aperture does not support image format*.
The problem seems to apply to the attempted use of any external editor (including Noise Ninja)
The following have each been tried, all unsuccessfully:
    - Using each of Aperture's library 3 first aid options
    - Rebuilding directory using Diskwarrior
    - Checking for virus using Virus Barrier X4
    - Defragmenting library hard disk using TechTool pro
    - Changing permissions settings
    - Using Disk Utility first aid to repair permissions and checking main disk
    - Removing some plist elements when open 'show package contents' of library
    - Setting up a(n almost clean) new system, with newly loaded version of Aperture, with a new library from a vault saved prior to the crash when the problem first occured
Several things seem to me to be totally bizarre:
1 - The problem is the same on the other library hard disk which was not in use at the time
2 - The problem still occurs when a back up vault saved prior to this problem is loaded - using a new hard disk with a new system and a newly reloaded and upgraded Aperture software
3- The problem seems inconsistent. It appears to affect some photos but not all. Even from the same shoot, some photos can be edited using an external editor, whilst others cannot (but as far as i can tell most of the photos in a particular album seem to be consistently affected)
4- The only way around it seems to be if I import a new (copy image) from the original master. Then everything works ok, and I can successfully edit that copy image in photoshop / phototools plug-in.
I am beginning to wonder whether what has been corrupted is Aperture's ability to make copies from the master file which it then uses with the external editor (I have no real idea whether this is correct)
Does anyone have any ideas or solutions - or has anyone else been suffering a similar problem?
    Eric
PS: As a professional photographer this problem is a really serious issue for me - and I really don't really want to go to Lightroom or Capture One

Thanks Larry. That certainly gives me some understanding. Can't imagine I'm the only Aperture user with that concern, so I certainly hope Adobe and others will fill the void. Without that feature, Photos is pretty much a non-started for me.

Okay, as I'm working through this I see that I have to add the "Admin" account to each file with "read only" permission.  Simply changing the "everyone" account access does nothing.
So how do I change the permissions settings in iPhoto or Aperture to give each exported file the desired permissions?  I cannot locate a setting in the iPhoto or Aperture applications.
Also, I added a password to the user account.  It did not change how files are output.

  • Upgraded to Mountain Lion and Aperture 3.4.5 dng not supported?

    Hi,
    I upgraded from 10.6.8 to 10.8.4
Also downloaded Aperture update to 3.4.5
Now, many of my dng images are showing as Not Supported.  I checked compatibility on Pentax K-30 and they are supported in Mountain Lion.
I also downloaded the latest RAW support file from update today.
Does anyone know what I should do?
I have converted the entire Ap 3 library to the current format, as directed by a dialog message when opening Ap3 after the update.
    Thanks in advance,
