Is Stationery Leopard-only?

Are the stationery templates Leopard-specific, or will other users (those using PCs or previous Mac OS) be able to view letters I have formatted with Stationery?

Hello Captain:
LIke the previous poster, I can not give a definitive answer. However, I do know that it comes through to Macs running OS X 10.4 and also to a Windows user I know.

I have a macbook pro and the software with snow leopard only has upgraded to 10.5.8, do I need to purchase mountain lion to upgrade to 10.6.8?

Your machine likely can't handle Mountain Lion 10.8 nor 10.7, if it does it will run slow and very higly likely a lot of your third party software and drivers for printers and scanners won't function anymore.
It's because your 10.5 era (or earlier) machine is rather dated, hardware has advanced and is faster, the newer OS X versions have gotten bloated.
I do recommend you call Apple via phone and order the 10.6.3 white retail disks, backup your personal data off the 10.5.8 Mac to a external storage drive and when the disk arrives, stick it in and run the upgrade installer.
Once that's finished, reboot and use Software Update to get to 10.6.8 and stay there. You can buy stuff from AppStore, just don't upgrade to 10.8 (or 10.7) as thats when you'll have issues.
10.6 should run your currrently installed PPC software and hardware drivers. But 10.7/10.8 will not.
10.6 is receiving security and other updates from Apple as more than 50% of OSX users are still on it.

  • My new imac come with snowleopard but i need to install leopard only

    hi for every one ,,,
i buy new imac my new imac come with snowleopard but i need to install leopard only but refused any body have idea for this case , becuase i have more special program not compatible to work under snowleopard .
    thanks for all
    my configuration is
    Hardware Overview:
    Model Name: iMac
    Model Identifier: iMac10,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
    Processor Speed: 3.06 GHz
    Number Of Processors: 1
    Total Number Of Cores: 2
    L2 Cache: 3 MB
    Memory: 4 GB
    Bus Speed: 1.07 GHz
    Boot ROM Version: IM101.00CC.B00
    SMC Version (system): 1.52f9
    Serial Number (system): W**H9H5PC
    Hardware UUID: 3A00BABF-810C-57B5-B1C8-E8F7E7074C86

The new iMacs will only work with Snow Leopard, and only the release on the DVD supplied with the computer (the Snow Leopard upgrade disks won't work). The problem is that they require new drivers.

  • Mysterious Leopard only file on this Tiger OS

For some reason I only get the following entry in Console when booting from my clone. I've never seen this in Console booted from the internal. This is a Leopard only file and I have no idea what it's doing anywhere near this machine. I've never downloaded anything--that I know of-- related to Leopard. Besides, neither EasyFind nor Sherlock can find it anywhere--even set to search invisible-- either on the clone or the internal. It's not doing any harm, but it's a mystery I'd like to solve. It happened once a few months ago and again today after cloning. Searches came up empty handed both times.
I asked over at CCC when it first happened, and the only thing they could come up with was that it might be from some recent combined Tiger/Leopard update (don't know which it could be), but this answer isn't very satisfying, since I would expect to find it somewhere on this computer, either on the clone or the internal, if that were the case. I do have usr/standalone, but no i386 or i386/boot.efi there. The Tiger equivalent is BootX, which I do have in CoreServices.
    Can't load /Volumes/OWC Neptune//usr/standalone/i386/boot.efi
Error while getting file ID of /Volumes/OWC Neptune/System/Library/CoreServices/boot.efi. Ignoring...
    Can't load /Volumes/OWC Neptune//usr/standalone/i386/boot.efi
Error while getting file ID of /Volumes/OWC Neptune/System/Library/CoreServices/boot.efi. Ignoring...

I don't know too much about this, but here are some thoughts:
I believe that BootX <-> boot.efi is not a Tiger <-> Leopard thing, but rather a PPC <-> Intel thing. BootX is the system file that the boot firmware is supposed to find and run on a PPC system, and boot.efi is the corresponding file for an Intel system.
CCC presumably includes a "bless" command when it makes a bootable clone, telling the firmware where on the boot volume to look for the appropriate boot file.
    From
    man bless
    FILES
    /usr/standalone/ppc/bootx.bootinfo
    Secondary loader with XML headers,
used with the --bootinfo flag. Used
for booting New World PPC-based Mac-
    intoshes. If the argument to
    --bootinfo is ommitted, this file
will be used as the default input.
    /usr/standalone/i386/boot.efi
    Booter for EFI-based systems, used
with the --bootefi flag. If the argu-
ment to --bootefi is ommitted, this
file will be used as the default
    input.
    /System/Library/CoreServices
Typical blessed folder for Mac OS X
    and Darwin
    ======
To bless a volume with only Mac OS X or Darwin, and create the BootX and
    boot.efi files as needed:
    bless --folder "/Volumes/Mac OS X/System/Library/CoreServices"
    --bootinfo --bootefi
I don't know enough about this to be sure, but maybe the CCC "blessing" on the clone is for some reason causing your PPC system to look for the Intel boot.efi file when it boots from the clone. Since your internal HD has never been "blessed" by CCC, it might not manifest the same behavior when it boots.

  • Some data DVD's and External Hard Drives not recognized by Leopard only.

1] Some data DVDs that were burned under Tiger do not show up in Leopard. Only a dialog box asking what I want to do with the blank DVD comes up when I insert the disk. On my Tiger computer, the disk shows up perfectly fine. It is a DVD+R being used on a MBP 2ghz... and was burned on that very machine in Tiger and would load fine in Tiger. Now nothing on the same computer in Leopard. I'm going to reburn the disk on my Mac Mini on a DVD-R, but still wanted to know any ideas or input as to why it won't recognize the disk.
2] I also have an external USB2.0 HD. I formatted the disk using my G4 Mac Mini (which has Tiger) and it is not recognized on my MBP. In Disk Utility I try to reformat the drive, but it says that it cannot do so because the "resource is busy". I plug the drive back into the mac mini and it works perfectly fine. Why would this be and how do I correct it?
Full updates on both OS's. No other problems with either computer that I know of.

Unfortunately, commercial DVDs that you have bought 99.9% of the time will be copy protected and Apple's forum terms prohibit discussion of circumventing the copy protection.  In various places circumventing digital copy protection is potentially illegal even if you own and intend to keep the DVD.  Hence Apple do not wish DVD rippers etc discussed here.
Another problem is that AppleTv cannot play back DVDs copied to an external drive as it does not understand the format.  So even if you can 'copy' your DVDs you then need to convert to h264 format to play on AppleTV.
Video formats for AppleTv are limited.  They also do not support DVD like menu structures (thogh AppleTV 1 did with itunes Extras movies).
If you have unprotected video you wish to convert eg home video on DVD, then something like Handbrake or MPEGStreamclip with Apple's MPEG2 component might do the job.  These programs are not DVD rippers but can process unprotected MPEG2 video.

  • Opening Ports for Filemaker Server Advanced 8.0 (Leopard Only)

Having trouble opening FileMaker Server Advanced on Leopard (works on Tiger). I've spent hours on the phone with FileMaker and Apple tech support. FileMaker tech support has indiated that I need to allow FileMaker to see ports 5003 to 5006, and 50003 to 50006. To do this I will need to interact with Terminal. I find this very odd and would like to know if anyone else can verify the need to do this, or a better solution. Shouldn't Server just work like it always has? I don't buy this none-supported business when I spent as much as I did on this product 2 months before version 9 came out. Okay..sorry I'm just venting.

Your ACL is wrong. With version 8.2x you have to use the translated IP in the ACL. With only one IP you can also use the keyword "interface":
access-list outside_access_in extended permit tcp any interface eq 5001
no access-list outside_access_in extended permit tcp any host MiniSrvr object-group DM_INLINE_TCP_1
    static (inside,outside) tcp interface 5001 MiniSrvr 5001 netmask 255.255.255.255
That will forward tcp/5001 arriving on the external interface to your MiniSrvr on Port tcp/5001
BTW: You should move this question to Security->Firewalling.

  • Security Update 2011-003 (Snow Leopard ONLY - Really, Really?!?!?!)

What anyone who doesn't have Snow Leopard isn't at risk of getting tagged by dreaded "Mac Defender" Trojan Horse???
Come Apple Snow Leopard isn't the only OS that is at risk, you really should make this avaible to ALL Mac users, not just those who have purchased and installed Snow Leopard.

It would apparently have been a much bigger undertaking  to provide similar functionality for earlier systems. You'd probably have to start from scratch, whereas for Snow Leopard it's a small update to a pre-existing feature. This isn't to say, though, that Apple shouldn't have provided something for earlier systems anyway.
    From
    About Security Update 2011-003:
Description: The OSX.MacDefender.A definition has been added to the malware check within File Quarantine.
The "File Quarantine" check for "potentially unsafe files" began with OS X v10.5, but the addition of a specific  "malware check" feature using a list of known malware was new in Snow Leopard.
    From
About file quarantine in Mac OS X v10.5 and v10.6:
    Snow Leopard checks for malware
Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard builds upon the existing unsafe file type check by also checking for known instances of "malware", or malicious software. When you open a quarantined file, the file quarantine feature will check to see if it may include known malware.

  • After partitioning cannot run Leopard, only Windows XP

Just got a new iMac today. I transferred all my files from an old G5 Power PC then partitioned and installed Windows XP. Just now I cannot start up OSX. I would love to start from scratch and redo the partitioning. How do I go about this? Thank you for any good advise.
    Sabine

Does your Mac now only start in Windows XP? Restart and hold down the option key and you should be able to choose to boot the Mac partition.
If you really want to start from scratch, put the Leopard DVD into the DVD drive and reboot. Hold down the C key to boot from the Leopard DVD. Then run Disk Utility to create one Mac partition and reinstall Leopard. After Leopard is installed you can then run Boot Camp Assistant again to create a Windows partition and reinstall Windows XP, if you want.

  • Snow Leopard Only Boots in Safe Mode

I had a catastrophic failure of the original 320 gb drive in my iMac and my Time Machine drive this weekend. I purchased and installed a new drive, and installed Snow Leopard.
Now, whenever my computer starts up, it only starts in Safe Mode. I'm not holding down the shift key.

What happens, if in Safe Mode you go to System Preferences > Startup Disk and re-choose your Startup Disk, then restart?

  • Need to reinstall Leopard only have disk do i need serial number?

I have just had my new MacBook Pro 13" and on my old MacBook (Black) i need to erase the content and start the machine all over again.
I have found the Leopard disk however, i have only found the disk. I bought the family pack which is meant to be for 5 users. The thing is i cant remember if there were any serial number that needed to be input so the software will work. Im concerned that if i install the software again it overwrites the hard drive and then if it asks for serial numbers i wont have any and then im locked out of my system.
I am doing this so i can give my machine to my wife, but she wants a clean system not with my stuff on it.
    Can anyone help?

The thing is i cant remember if there were any serial number that needed to be input so the software will work.
There aren't, except for Mac OS X Server, which isn't offered as a family pack.

  • HT4759 how to back up manually on a computer that cannot be upgraded...on leopard only

I have an imac on 10.5.8.  It has Leopard and it cannot be upgraded any more.
I would like to use icloud manually; however, the instructions assume that you have an upgraded machine.  When I called Apple they said I could do it.  Now I do not know what to do.

  • Snow Leopard Only Available on DVD?

Hi! I've finally convinced my daughter/son-in-law they need to move up to Snow Leopard from Tiger. Can they buy a downloadable version or do they have to buy it on a DVD? We are not interested in any of those sites that are trying to rip Apple off. Just a legit Apple download. I've googled and can't seem to locate a downloadable version.
Thank you in advance for your help.
    Judie

There is no downloadable version of Snow Leopard. It must be purchased on DVD. If the problem is that the machine in question does not have a DVD drive, then I'd have to question whether it meets the [Snow Leopard system requirements|http://www.apple.com/macosx/specs.html].

  • Upgrading from 10.4.11 to Leopard only now

I have a G5 NON intel and in preparation for buying an ipad am about to upgrade to Leopard. Not Snow leopard, since that needs an Intel mac.
I have accepted every update of itunes, iphoto and so on offered by Apple to date, will I now find that some of these conflict with the Tiger to Leopard process, since Leopard is rather outdated now?
Any thoughts, hints and tips appreciated.

have you done the usual troubleshooting ?
    1. running +verify disk+ and +permission repair+ sessions using disk utility ?
    2. tried _*resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM*_ ?
    3. tried _*resetting the System Management Controller SMC*_ ?
    4. tried booting into _*safe mode*_, then rebooting normally ?

  • Snow Leopard only running newest iLife apps???

I know this sounds like a dumb question, but I have to ask since I have no way of testing it. My Dad was about to buy the Snow Leopard family pack upgrade for himself, my brother, sister and I. The guy at the third-party Apple retailer he usually goes to told him that he will have to upgrade all the computers to iLife '09 because Snow Leopard will not run any earlier iLife apps than the most recent.
It sounded like a load of garbage to me, that the guy was just trying to get an additional sale out of him (which is really uncool), but I wanted to see if anybody has had any issues running older iLife apps on Snow Leopard?

Don't know what you consider more concrete but I installed SL Friday and have used iPhoto 7.15 and iDVD 7.04 quite a bit since then and have experienced no problems at all. They work like they always did but with a slight speed boost.
Yes, I think that 3rd party retailer was either badly informed or, as you say, trying to get a bigger sale. Go to Amazon or get SL or from an Apple store if you live near one. Don't give that store any business.

  • Why is Expose lagging for Snow Leopard only in my account, not in guest account? How do i solve it?

I installed an itunes update and somehow my 'expose' starts to lag, not being as smooth as before. I don't know how this can be linked to me updating itunes but somehow i think it is. Does anyone have a solution to this problem?

Expose requires a lot of system resources and it is posible that you may have a program or programs on your account that are running in the background using a lot of these resources. If you open Activity Monitor and look at the tabs on the bottom and if you click on CPU and Memory and notice that FREE does not have a lot of space than that might be the issue and if you look above that on the charts you may see some apps that are using a lot of these resources and you may wish to close them.
