Is "Student Version" as good as regular retail version?

I'm about to buy Photoshop CS4 Student Edition. Are there any drawbacks to buying the student edition?  I mean, it's almost $900.00 cheaper.  Any insight will be greatly appreciated.

Functionally it is identical. There are regional variations outside the US on its use commercially and I understand only one simultaneous activation is allowed whereas the retail version permits two.

  • Can the leased, student version of CC be installed on two computers, like the retail version?

    Good morning!
I am considering the $20/month student lease of the Creative Cloud, but I was wondering if I would still be able to install it on two computers? Let me preface this by saying I have a laptop and a desktop - the laptop is taken to class with me while the desktop is where all my work is mainly done. I saw on the FAQs that you are able to install the Creative Cloud on two computers, but it didn't specify if the student version was permitted the same rights.
Does anyone know for certain if I would be allowed to install the leased, student version of Creative Cloud on both my PCs?
    Thanks!

Cpaulson117 you can install and activate the software on up to two computers.  You can find more details at Activation & deactivation help - http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/policy-pricing/activation-deactivation-products.html.

  • Upgrade from student version to regular version.

    Hi,
I purchased a student version of LR4 about a year ago.  Now I want to purchase a non-student version of LR5.  Can I just buy the upgrade or do I need to buy LR5?  If LR5 will I then have both LR4 and LR5 on my MAC?

Yes, you can buy the upgrade "version" of Lightroom 5. Actually, there is only one version of Lightroom. The program is the same. There are just different licensing provisions. When you install Lightroom 5 you will have both versions on your computer. They will work independently of each other. You can keep Lightroom 4 for as long as you want. I still have it on my computer, but will probably remove it soon because I very seldom use it anymore.
Since you have Lightroom 4 installed, the installation of the new version will find the needed serial number, and you only have to enter the serial number with the new version.

  • Student Version Cs4

I am student and will graduate in the next year.  When I graduate, will I still be able to use the program or do I have to buy an actual version?  (in other words since I have to prove that I am a student, will my student validation still be needed for the activation of the product after I reinstall it or graduate.)
Another ? having nothing to do with a Student Version Cs4.  Is it true that you can't export a movie in any format with a 30 day trial version Cs4 premiere?

I agree with John T. As he is an academician, he knows a good deal about "student/academic" versions of many Adobe products.
In years past, there were some limitations in the EULA on doing "commercial work," but I believe that those have been dropped. There were rules governing upgrade paths, but I think that many of those have also been dropped.
When one is speaking of various suites, it might not be quite so easy to get full details, but depending on the configuration of the suite, you should be able to pick out the major components, ask in those appropriate fora, and get pointers to current EULA's for those. I would assume that they will dictate the restrictions and limitations of the total suite.
I will not comment on what used to be, as much has changed. One needs to check now. Also, I'd follow John's advice to check with the licensed resellers of academic versions. Once, FAXing a student I.D. was good enough, like showing same at the school's bookstore.
Whatever you do, go through a licensed, academic reseller, whether you school's bookstore, or from an licensed academic Web site.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • I have a student version of CS4 and thought about joining CC

when I clicked existing customer, it says I do not qualify for an upgrade when i enter my serial number.  why not?

Student versions are not eligible for the existing customer promotional offer which is aimed at retail customers.

  • Student version of Adobe Photoshop CS3 Extended version question!

My school is now offering the student version of CS3 Extended. Is there any difference at all in the student version versus a full retail version? Any help is appreciated!!!!!!

If history is any indicator, the educational version should be exactly the same as the commercial version.
    http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=kb402371
"Many Adobe products have versions created especially for the Education market. The Education versions of Adobe products are fully functional and identical to the retail versions, although there might be differences in packaging or marketing."
"For example, sometimes retail products include promotional software (such as free fonts or clip art) not included with the Education version. Additionally, because Education products are already discounted, they may not qualify for other pricing discounts offered to non-Education customers."Oh, and before I forget:

  • Can I purchase the Photoshop CS6 student version in this educational stage? When does it expire?

Hi! I'm from Spain. I'm in a educational stage that would be more or less equivalent to what you call high school. This stage here is called "bachillerato". Does anyone know if at this stage I have rights to buy and use legally the Photoshop CS6 Extended student version for learning and earning money with commercial projects like games with some elements made with that version of Photoshop? Please only answer if you really know the answer, please don't simply say "yes" because in other countries you can get the version because of beeing in high school, because this is not exactly the same as high school.
And, if I can get the license and use it legally that way: when does it expire in this to cases?
    A) I don't go to University. Would it expire when I finish "bachillerato". Or when?
    B) I go to University but I don't study anything related with Photoshop.
I know that if I study something related with Photoshop in University I can use the student version then.

I would contact Adobe España Customer support, as they should know the full qualifications for "educational" accreditations there.
As for the university qualification, one does not normally need to be pursuing a degree, that would use Photoshop, to qualify for the "educational" discount - just full student, or teacher, accreditation - but that might differ in Spain?
Also, for many years now, Adobe has removed the restriction on doing commercial work (for pay) with the educational version, and that should be universal, and not just limited to certain countries, but it might pay to ask that question of Customer Support.
    Good luck,

  • Question regarding student version install policies

    HI,
Can I install my student version of Creative suite on my work PC in addition to my home PC? I'd like to be able to use it in both places.
If so what is the procedure? This was purchased a few (2ish)  years ago, so I dont recall what I did to register other than proving I was a student then.
    Thanks
    Sharon

Yes. Once you have the serial number you are good to go.

  • How much is teacher/student version upgrade from LR4?

How much is teacher/student version upgrade from LR4?

The "teacher/student version" is a special offer for a full version purchase. The software is in fact identical to the regular full version being sold. Once you have purchased the license key it is fully functional and allows you to upgrade at the normal upgrade price.
If you still qualify for the "teacher/student version" you can purchase another full license for LR 5 at the discounted price which is the same as the upgrade price.

  • CS2 student version installation on Win7

I have just recently changed from Windows Vista to Windows7 (not via Update). Unfortunately, I have not uninstalled my CS2 student version on Vista before I installed W7. Now, when I try to install CS2, my licence number is not accepted. (I suppose since it is still somewhat "taken"/ "the system" assumes that my CS2 is still installed somewhere else and denies me another installation)
The Adobe support team won't offer me help since I am now using W7... so I'd be thankful for any help/suggestions from your side greets

I have spent the better part of a day installing the Creative Suite 2.3 Premium on a new install of Win 7  64 bit.
The main issue is WHERE to install the program.  You must change the install path to     C:\progra~2\Adobe
This version wasn't made for 64 bit and needs that special folder name to be installed properly.
If you've already tried you must uninstall...BUT first  be sure to enter photoshop if you can and TRANSFER activation.
This will save you some phone calls.  Be sure to transfer activation on adobe acrobat too.
Then go to this page  http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/319/319474.html   and follow the instructions for a good clean uninstall.
Once this is done, restart your computer and re-install all the discs in the proper order and remember that special install path.
I now have all the programs working simultaneously....so far anyway.  Fingers are crossed.

  • Student version

    Dears
I was just wondering if there is a student version of CRTS
could be limited ...could be free or with less price
although i didn't find the price for the full license
because I'm studying Real Time OS and want to build Real time control software using Java under Windows XP
but i am still starter ...and thinking if i could get some help ...
from where should i begin ...
    thanks

An update within the last 5 months is actually pretty good for an open-source project. :) Yes, I believe it's still active (depending on how you define "active"), but note that it started as, and still is, an academic research project, so future development is contingent on finding someone to provide additional grant funding. For further information, you should talk to Morgan Deters (his contact info is on the jRate webste). He's the lead developer at the moment.

  • Full Version vs Student Version

Is there a difference between the full version and the student version?

The student version is identical to the full retail product - you just need to provide valid accreditation from your educational establishment.

  • Cs4 student version

does anyone know if you can get upgrades if you buy the student version of cs4? I know you can't upgrade it to the full commercial version, but I just want to check that you can still get the normal upgrades.  Thanks!

Unless you have read something new, the last I knew, you can take either a retail, an educational, or a student license and buy a retail upgrade when the next release is available. In doing so, you can turn your student license (suited for non-commercial work) into a full retail license (allowed for commercial work).
Adobe licensing has changed in the past few years with the advent of 'student' licenses instead of just 'education' licenses. You should confirm licensing options with Adobe before committing to a purchase.
We're just fellow users here and cannot speak on behalf of Adobe.
You may be confusing updates and upgrades. An upgrade is from one version to a new version with additional features (such as CS3 to CS4) and has a cost. An update is simply a patch to correct errors in the program. Updates are always free, regardless of your license type.

  • Upgrade Lightroom 1 Student version?

Back in early 2007, I purchased the academic edition of Lightroom 1. However, I am no longer a student and cannot purchase the student version of Lightroom 2.
Will the regular Lightroom 2 Upgrade version upgrade my student edition of Lightroom 1?
    Thanks for your help!

I don't know where you got that information from but, happily, it is wrong. Adobe has a very liberal updating policy. I've updated from an Educational Version of CS 3 times. Once you pay for the first upgrade, you have a full version, not a student version, and you can upgrade accordingly from there. As long as you're the legal, registered, activated user, just buy the upgrade and install it. You'll have no issues (at least with licensing.)
