Is Sun Ray a suitable solution for system administrators?
My company is deciding if Sun Ray can be a viable solution for system administrators for additional level of security since Sun Ray clients are diskless...less worries about malware or virus...etc.
However, looking through Sun's available thin client machines, there is no selection of laptop form. As you can guess, sysadmins are mostly remote and on the go...it cannot be expected that they are always at their desks or homes to access the thin client machines. I understand the availability of the web client solution...however, have my doubts about that and how much would sysadmins actually embrace it.
On the other hand, the inability of copy & paste as they are currently doing with traditional thick clients can be problematic too. One use case is when they test and build config on their desktops (say notepad), then upload to server hosts...or opposite, when they need to download logs to their machines and investigate...
I am not going into questions about support of OS X and other tools sysadmins usually use...since the support of true remote access will be the biggest hurdle up front.
Any comments?
Hmmm. Very late to this conversation, but couldn't help to throw some change into the hat.
For casual use of light-weight, non-power hungry applications, running apps via SGD over a Sun Ray (soft client or not) is probably ok. But if you were to try to do this for normal users who need PC-like performance, you'd be delusional. Display information will travel over the network 3 times and you can't take advantage of any of the new, faster graphics capabilities of the newer Sun Ray's when you introduce SGD as the means to access Windows desktop applications.
To be explicit:
Sun-Ray -> Sun Ray Server uses ALP.
Sun Ray Server -> SGD uses AIP.
SGD Server -> Windows Server uses RDP.
If you deploy this widely, better go buy some stock in Cisco.
I'd use SGD only for remote PC/Mac/Unix users who need to bounce in from the wild west.
I'd use Sun Ray -> Sun Ray Servers + Windows connector (uttsc) for thin client access.

"Emergency role" for system administrators
Hello
Our SAP system administrators have more or less very comprehensive authorizations.
For emergency cases we are looking for a "near-by-SAP_ALL" role which the administrators are able to assign themselves.
Does anyone have experiences which considerations must be taken into account?
There is a list of possible transaction codes for administrators like this one:
http://www.sap-img.com/basis/useful-sap-system-administration-transactions.htm
But this list is not complete, the guys sometimes need more...
Any ideas
Thanks
BEOcareful. permitting admins to assign such a role to themselves may be a clear SoD violation not to mention an uncontrolled practice. emergency access is exactly what GRC Fireifghter is used for.
If you don't have it, then create a manual process that involves logging of all activities performed while the role was assigned, temporary assignment only, reviews and approval of logged activities. One way is to create a generic account that is always locked and is assigned to a user group that only certain people are allowed to maintain. Whenever the account is needed, it is "checked out" as if it was a firefighter. SM19 would be permanently set to log all activities for this account. To do this, you would have to close all loopholes to the process, such as tightly controlling who can change SM19 settings and who can unlock the account, who knows its password, and you would need periodic reviews of the account, showing the last time it was locked and password changed, the last time SM19 settings were change, and timely reviews of SM20 logs for the acocunt.
your auditors probably have suggestions for your emergency access procedure too.

MJPEG the solution for system hogging AVI's?
Hi gang. I am working on an editing project where numerous shots have to be Warp Stabilized. The problem is, thelossless AVI's are too much for my system to handle (even though it chews up and spits out uncompressed 1080p24 QT like it's nothing).
So I know very little about MJPEG. WOuld something like Morgan Multimedia's MJPEG codec be a solution?
http://www.morgan-multimedia.com/morgan/php/products.php?sProductId=4&sProductSub=info
It would be great to save to something that is going to keep the gorgeous PQ of a 5DMK2 or Sony Z5, but without those horroficly large AVI files.
Forgive my ignorance, please. I know I am terribly ignorant, but I learn as much as I can as fast as I can.I cannot use Dynamic link. I only have CS5, not 5.5. I only have After Effects 5.5 as I just cannot afford the full suite upgrade. How I wish I could.
I'm about to sit down and start my After Effects work and see what transpires.
However, when I installed Lagarith Codec, the installer was strange. It percolated, then poof, was gone. It does show up under installed programs, so I guess it's okay. -
Lite 9i: A suitable solution? ...who has expiriences?
hello everyone!
we are researching if oracle lite 9i is the most adequately solution for our upcoming project. I hope ypu can help me though I am not familiar with oracle lite.
Summarized, our project is a distributed applictation (programmed in Delphi). This application is designed for data capture purposes and should be deployed to multiple remote centres. A database should be deployed along with this application In each of these centres, where the data should be kept.
Another requirement is that the data (also metadata of the application) of each centre should be synchronized with a central database (Oracle 9i EE) located in my company. Also I have to say that it will be mandatory neccessary that the installation/configuration effort of the lite database has to be extremly low, though its not guaranteed that IT specialists are avialable in every centre.
(hope I explained that well enough :-)
What do you think, is oracle lite 9i generally a suitable solution for this problem?
Thanks for any replies!
KatHai kat,
I am a developer of applications in Oracle9iLite. It is a powerful application where in which the data and application is resides into the client place. After synchronization , the client data gets updated with central server.
we are doing imports/exports business in Agricultural commodities like cashew, pista, coco, timber around the world. Mainly we are concentrating on african countries like ghana, ivorycost, benin etc., Our headoffice lying at Singapore. There we have using 8i mounted with Oracle9iLite. we developed applications and published it in the central server, the clients are download their applications using their snapshot values( Like countrycode, companycode, branchcode etc.,). Then they start entering data and try to sync in the end of the month, so the client data get updated with out server at S'pore.
Lite gives the perfect solution for our business requirements.I hope it will help u out in u r business too.All the Best.

Microphone not working on sun ray 270 thin client
Hello
I"m trying to make headphone and microphone work on a sun ray 270 thin client for an browser (java) based application. Its basically a meeting room kind to application where people can talk with each other.
The Speaker and Headphone is working fine however mic is giving trouble. I tried to test it with /usr/dt/bin/sdtaudio but when i click on record it give an error saying could not set audio format. I tried gnome-sound-recorder as well but it says device could not be found. The device is getting created in /tmp/SUNWut/dev/utaudio directory and $UTAUDIODEV variable is also set properly.
Please tell me how to trouble shoot this problem.Post what your environment looks like. What version of everything are you using?

Sun Ray Software Support for OpenSolaris
Hello. I'd like to know, when the SRSS support for OpenSolaris will be available. There is not enough fresh desktop software for Solaris 10 (even blastwave's gnome and kde are too old). Nowadays we have two quite old Solaris 10 terminal servers and we'd like to move them to our new IBM blades. As I understand there are two choices: use Linux and fresh soft or Solaris 10 and old soft. We'd like to use Solaris 11, but SRSS doesn't support it. It seems that we need to switch to Linux. Could we hope that OpenSolaris support will appear in SRSS in a half a year?
It's hard to see how there could ever be formal support for SRSS on any operating system that is as volatile as OpenSolaris. (I'm assuming you mean the distribution named OpenSolaris, originally Project Indiana. If you mean any arbitrary distribution derived from the OpenSolaris source base then that's even less likely.) I can imagine that SRSS might get repackaged or even relicensed in order to make it easier for people to run it on OpenSolaris, but I can't see Sun signing up to provide the traditional multi-year patch-based support program that SRSS has on its current platforms.
Nevada would be a more plausible candidate for some sort of support commitment. Even there it wouldn't be the traditional model, because Nevada is an unreleased snapshot of Solaris.next in the process of being created and it doesn't have the stability guarantees that a finished Solaris release has. Lots of people inside Sun, and quite a few outside Sun, run SRSS on Nevada. According to hearsay that combinatin has been pretty dependable but that's not a good enough foundation for the kind of guarantee that the formal Sun support model offers.
If I was looking for a shinier newer desktop for my Sun Rays I'd run Nevada. I'd pick a release, test it as hard as I could, then stick with it for at least a few months before doing a Live Upgrade to a later release. And I'd keep an S10 machine (or boot environment) around so that if I encounter problems on the Nevada systems I can try to reproduce it on S10, so that I could open support calls against the S10 system. It's not bulletproof -- Nevada may have problems that don't show up on S10 -- but it's at least some sort of safety net. I'd also be sure to subscribe to the sunray-users mailing list at filibeto.org in the hope that that would get me advance warning of Nevada issues, and maybe help with workarounds for issues if any crop up. -
Hi,
I'm developed a blog reader for windows 8 store app. It was perfectly worked before. But suddenly it started to miss behave and I got an

But I found the solution while I fixing it.
Solution for that is like below.
Go to your App.Xaml and Right-Click thenGo to Properties

Solution Manager System Monitoring for non SAP system
Dear Support,
I have configured the CCMS Agent (SAPCCMSR) for non-SAP system (Windows 2008R2).
The system information (e.g. CPU, Memory, Disks etc) has already showed in RZ20 of Central Monitoring system (e.g. Solution Manager).
How can I do to configure to display these information in the Alert Inbox tab on System Monitoring Workcenter?
Best regards,
Fan HungHi,
Have you defined and added corresponding logical systems for the respective satellite systems?
Here is the sequence of steps you've to do:
in SMSY:
1) Define server, DB, Systems
2) Generate READ, TMW, TRUSTED RFCs to the satellite systems
3) define logical systems and assign the satellite system to it
in Solution_Manager:
1) define new solution
2) add the logical system into the solution
If these steps are successful, you should be able to see the satellite system in SYSTEM MONITORING in Solution_Manager.
Have you already done these steps?
After performing these steps:
Solution_Manager>choose relevant solution>operations setup>Solution Monitoring>System monitoring>Activate monitoring> choose the system and activate monitoring.
Your system will then appear.
Does this help any way? -
Backup solutions for Solaris 10 systems
I am trying to put together a backup solution for a number of SunFire V240 systems running Solaris 10. We do run our backups using NetWorker, along with a couple of high powered back up systems. But this solution I am trying to create is something that can be performed by our first responders, our help desk folks. The systems in question are already in production but we do have days where we can bring them down for maintenance or whatever we need to do. Therefore, I can implement this new solution during the day(s) of maintenance time.
I was looking at using Solaris Volume Manager and its metadata configurations. But I am unsure how to start with files sytems already created. I want to be able to have a backup of the boot disk in the event that the hard drive in which it resides goes down. I want our help desk folks be able to immediately bring the system right back up with little down time during the evening to late hours.
I guess what I am looking for are exact steps to help configure this backup solution with Solaris Volume Manager for our production systems. Can anyone help?Hey there,
Have a look at this excellent guide. I think that you may find what you need here. If not drop an email back. To begin with you need an extra disk(s) since you will mirror your data. This is sort of a pre-requisite.
Good luck,
Pierre

Using SUN Ray thin client for UCCE CAD Agents
Hi,
Does anyone tested the thin client SUN Ray for Cisco Agent Desktops? Is this supported by Cisco?
We know that Cisco supports Citrix for Cisco Agent Desktop but using thin client for IP Communicator is not supported at all.
Thanks.I guess it all depends on what the SunRay client is connecting to? If it's a VDI, terminal server, or something else as long as that platform is supported by Cisco/CAD then it should be okay - after all the SunRay is just a way of connecting to a desktop environment that then runs the CAD software.
Hope you're SunRay deployment goes well!

EWA: error message in CRM check for SAP Solution Manager system
Hello!
In EWA report for SAP Solution Manager system I have seen error message: Many CSA* inbound queues in error status were detected in your system. As a result of this BDocs have not been delivered. And then table
Queue Name Status Date of first entry Entries
CSABUPA0000000070 READY 03.12.2007 45
CSABUPA0000000934 READY 07.05.2008 45
CSAIBASE0000000000 READY 23.11.2007 36
CSA_ORDER_8000000000 READY 22.11.2007 5
CSA_ORDER_8000000001 READY 22.11.2007 3
and others.
I looked transaction smq2. There are 11300 queues in it. Is it actual error or it is a normal situation? And that must I do, to remove an error?
Edited by: Mariya Kurbatova on Jul 2, 2009 6:27 AMHi,
Usually problems with hanaging CSA* queues are caused because too many
indiviaual queues are created for the qRFC resources to handle. You can
limit the number of queues as described in note 763680.
Note 763680 would be useful if all of your qRFC resourcesa are in use
when you have a great number of queues. With a large number of dialog
WPs on the system it would probably make sense to reduce the amount
as described in the note.
the casue when you have this problem would be to check SMQR -> GOTO ->
qRFC resources. You can also see if most of your dailog WPs are in use
in SM50.
Also refer to note 758677.
Please schedule report RSQIWKEX (Inbound) to run as described in the
note.
And since your title has mentioned that the EWA is on your CRM satellite system; this maybe a further good reference too
When you replicate lots of data from CRM to R/3, there could be a qRFC
resource problem. In this case, the numebr of queues created can be
reduced by implementing the attached note 356228, particularly solution
2.
For CSA* queues is slightly different from the one decribed in note;
this is because the CSA queues exchange data within the CRM system.
The steps described should be followed, except that table SMOFQFIND
must be used instead of CRMQNAMES. In this table, fields TR_SNAEMS and
SEGM_FLD are equivalent to the CRMQNAMES fieds BAPISTRUCT and BAPIFLD
respectively. It should be possible to follow the solution 2 in the
note as long as you use SMOFQFIND instead of CRMQNAMES.
Hope this helps
Cheers,

Sun Ray Connector for Windows OS 2.3
Hi,
I use Sun Ray Connector for Windows OS 2.3.
I want to show in windows logon screen ''domain logon'', now show in windows logon screen ''local server logon''.
What the uttsc parameters I must use?
I try the use in Sun Ray Connector for Windows in filed parameters:
for example:
domain_name_serwer -d my_domain but session sun ray all the time restart.
If I dont use -d my_domain in Sun Ray Connector for Windows:
for example:
domain_name_serwer it´s ok (but show in windows logon local serwer logon).
ThanksThe-d option requires the -u option.
In what way are you using uttsc and what version of Windows are you connecting to? -
CCMS is used for system monitoring , why should we use solution manage ?
CCMS is used for system monitoring , why should we use solution manage ?
Whats the relationship between CCMS system and SolMan?
Thank you .hi,
I just want to ask a question. At our client we have solution manager and CCMS. There is data in CCMS I can extract, it is loading on BW side ok the same number of recs, but the problem on CCMS cubes says there are the same number of record in the cube and also showing as the data is ready for the reporting. But when I run the report and view the data as listcube it is empty.
ANy of you have the situation like this cube say it has the data but when do th BEX or infocube contents the cube is empty nothing in there. The same thing is happening with hourly, 15 minute and daily cubes.
Anyhelp on this matter is appreciated -
