IS SYMBIAN^1 UPGRADE TO SYMBIAN^3........????

Hi, brother.
Yesterday I mailed to symbian about upgrading symbian^1 to Symbian^3. and I got replay today. And they are telling that if nokia want they can give symbian^3 to their symbian^1 customers. If it happens its next very good thing after MAPs.
If u interested in this topic then send a request mail to nokia for upgrading.
What u say.........?

While i agree with chanchan05 observations, i think it's possible.... Symbian^3 supports ARM11 architecture.... it may not be practical nor reasonable to implement (not to mention cheap), even for a 'lite' version without some 'candies'...
However it would show that Nokia really cares about customers, X6, N97, 5530 and 5230 would be eligible as well for the update...
But i really doubt it that there will be any effort in that way by nokia's side.... if there was any plans in that way Nokia would just correct existing bugs instead of implement/enhance new features on current firmwares...
Because of the restrictive OS and IDE (however Qt Creator looks promising) i, as a programmer, give up of doing stuff for my phone (i actually did 3 small games and pseudo WRT plugin for Webkit) ... i would reconsider it if S^3 came to my phone... oh well...
We can always dream .... or hope that some crazy, highly skilled (and perhaps angry?) programmer finds a way to force it into...
5800xm on a blender ... will happen sooner than expected.... v51 is a failure as an update .... v52 just postponed its fate....

  • Symbian^3 on Nokia N8, upgradable to Symbian^4?

There's been a lot of writing the last few days about Nokia N8 to be the last Symbian N-series device, officially confirmed by Nokia. I'm still planning to buy a N8, i just have one big issue; will it be possible to upgrade to Symbian^4 in the future? I'm not the only one with this question since it has been posted on several Nokia-blogs.

  • Google maps not working with symbian belle upgrade

guys after recent upgrade with symbian belle google maps stopped working is there any problem will belle dose it support google maps 4.1.1

For those people still can't get Google map to work on Belle after the Wifi trick, a hard reset finally fixed mine!  (No, a soft reset did not fix mine, but you should try it first.)  Yea, it's a pain in the butt having to reinstall some apps and reconfigure preferences.  But my phone also runs smoother and the battery lasts longer, as least it seems.  I still need to turn on Wifi for Google map to start.
    Detailed steps:
Do a full backup with Nokia Suite, just in case. (If you restore later, do not restore apps & preferences.  Otherwise, Google map won't work.)
Put phone in Offline mode to end all calls and connections: Press Hangup > Offline
Try Soft reset first: Settings > Phone > Phone Management > Factory Settings > Restore.
    Reinstall Google Maps.
If soft reset didn't work, try Hard reset: Settings > Phone > Phone Management > Factory Settings > Delete data and restore
    Enjoy!

  • E7 SYMBIAN BELLE UPGRADE PROBLEM

When upgrading my Nokia E7 from symbian anna to symbian belle, the phone switched off and on restarting, it dispay a text: '' phone startup failed, contact retailer.'' what can i do about this? your concern will be appreciated.

If the warning came during the update and the phone no longer works you may have to take to a Nokia Care Point to be reflashed, if you can start the phone with a Three finger reset, try to reinstall Belle. If the phone has started misbehaving after completing the update, then as mentioned before, do a reset and reinstall Belle.
    Good Luck

  • Nokia C6-01 cant upgrade to Symbian Belle from Sym...

Pls advise me how to solve this problem cause i cant upgrade my C6-01 to Symbian Belle using Nokia Suite 3.3.89.

First check whether Nokia belle is available for your phone's product come and region. Check belle availability page of Nokia Europe's website. If its available, try updating with the latest Nokia suite. Check whether your antivirus is blocking connection to your Nokia suite. Refresh repeatedly for the update to appear. Try advancing the date a few days or weeks and check again. If nothing works, take your phone to Nokia care and they'll update it for you. All the best.

  • New N8 with Symbian ^3; should I upgrade?

I just bought a barely-used N8 with Symbian ^3. It seems to be a nice phone, with only about 4 hours' use shown on the "life-timer" function. One of the things I have read about Nokia Belle is that there is no way to show several lines of the calendar on the home screen (unlike my N79 running s60v3, which I have configured to show up to 6 lines). Should I do any sort of upgrade (to Anna, if it's possible?), or Belle, or just leave it?  Thanks.
    Solved!

I would have to look into calendar widgets in a bit more detail, but in the interim have you come across this one:http://store.ovi.com/content/61774/

  • Symbian OS upgrade on E90

    Hi
I have an E90 (300.34.84), which I believe is on S60 3.1 feature pack1. The latest mail for exchange (2.9.158) has a feature where in we can define a access point group/destination and the mail for exchange can switch between WiFi and GPRS connection automatically. But the release notes say that this reqires S60 3.1 feature pack 2. How can i upgrade from S60 3.1 feature pack 1 to feature pack 2. Thanx

the problem i have with symbian developers is that, their service to the customers is poor. I think i rather move to android or window because the xda developers are always serious bring some thing new to their customers. About a yr ago i was using the tmobile g1 which comes with android 1.6 but can you believe that the xda developers have made it successful to run the android 2.3 on this old device. But i don't see that with nokia or symbian developers. With this expensive e90 which cost me $400 can even be upgrade to fp2 then why should i wast me time with noki devices. Xda all the way. Fellows lets move to htc phone for better services.

my cell phone nokia 500 got hanged and even after reset it got switched off automatically? I was thinking to upgradation,
Is it save to upgrade Symbian anna to belle?
or the hanging and virus attack remain same?

After that I used the code to reset the settings , the cell phone worked fine after that. but today, while I was sending a sms, the cell phone got switched off automatically, and turned on automatically. I m afraid, if the problem didn't get solved I might end up in reselling or either in upgrading the software... what do you sugeest?

  • Symbian 3: upgrading

Why is it not possible to upgrade symbian 3 phones to wp7?
I totally understand that nokia made an agreement with microsoft, but i am looking forward to it. ( i know many people are angry about it, but hey remember how u used to complain about symbian 3? Anyway whats done is done. Just like some kind of saying u will know the importance of something only after u lose it...)
But what makes me sad is that they are just dumping symbian behind. i would like to ask if upgrading to wp7 would be possible? May be by overclockig the symbian 3 phones? I found a guy who overclocked n8 to around 2 ghz.(http://moneyexpertsteam.blogspot.com/2011/01/how-to-overclock-nokia-n8-cpu-to-1000.html)

I think that that upgrade to w7 is not possible because when any company design a phone they combine all the chips set to work with a OS. So is possible in some cases to adapt the OS to a phone but you will get bugs or some features that never will work.
This happens because there are not standards to build phones, each company do their best then can and get the chip and parts suply that fit their budgets

  • Will Nokia N8 be upgraded to Symbian 4

Is there possibilities that the Nokia N8 be upgraded  to Symbian 4 or will happen same as it has happen to Nokia N900
In that case is it good to Purchase Nokia N*

Based on historical precedent, it is unlikely (as already stated) that the N8 will be updated ro Symbian^4, but not necessarily impossible.
Nokia doesn't tend to upgrade the entire OS of a phone, but Nokia hasn't yet had two OSs developed so closely as ^3 and ^4, so there might less incompatibility - usually the problem is that the software tends not to be backwards-compatible with the old hardware, so it isn't cost-effective to update older devices (and also, why update a two-year old device when you can sell a new one?) - with both ^4 being already developed even before the initial launch of ^3 we can assume that they are being developed with similar hardware specs in mind.
That aside, I'm in full agreement with synth_fg - the N8 is looking like an impressive phone, why write it off and OS when it hasn't even been seen in action in the wild?
As for Nick's comments, if you fancy a move away from Symbian, at least choose a comparable OS that will offer similar freedom of use - however many iPhones they sell, if Apple keeps its current attitude to complete control over the buyer's use of its products, it will never be a real 'competitor' for any other smartphone - it will always just occupy its own little niche away from the rest of the world just as Mac computers always have.

  • Upgrade Symbian Os?

Is there any possibility to upgrade Symbian Os 9.2 S60 3.1 to Symbian Os 9.3 S60 3.2.3 in E66?

In simple words, it's not going to happen.
Your device runs on S60v3 FP1, while what you want is S60v3 FP2. What you want to do is like upgrading from Windoze XP to Vista.
Nokia doesn't upgrade the OS, but only updates the OS that is running the phone. Which means, fixing bugs, security patches, sometimes new features, etc. Similar to M$ releasing updates to WinXP in the form of Service packs, patches, etc. The difference here is, you normally download and install the updated OS itself instead of installing just the updates (this is not the case when you do FOTA update).

  • This is what I faced after upgrading to Symbian An...

Hello everyone, it is really good to be among nice supportive people.
I just upgraded my phone to Symbian Anna yesterday, I did three upgrades on a row, the first major one and two other updates came at night.
I'm experiencing a three major problems with my new Anna, whenever I try to open Ovi Store, the loading green/yellow image appears, then the phone restarts thereafter.
Also for MOLOME (The popular images editing and posting software) the loading circle appears, then freezes and the phone restarts.
Also I found a new app came with the new update called "Notifications" I faced the same when I tried to open it.
What shall I do to get the phone working with all of the mentioned apps? Should I hard-reset my phone?
    Thank you in advance,
    Mohamed El Gamal

My major problem is Ovi Store, whenever I try to uninstall it my phone restarts and even when I try to install a newer version on the old one it restarts as well.
Sorry if my thread is pointless.

  • C7 Video Player Problem after upgrading to Symbian...

I have updated my C7 to symbian anna ( v 22.0014 ) , got all 4 update packs installed . But video player can't play the videos completely, it plays them upto half & then stops with a error message " Unable to play media clip ".
These videos are converted according to c7  & played nicely before the anna .Same thing happens to the videos downloaded from ovi store .
Any solution ? or the way to go back to the old video player from v 14.02 ?

No sorry i meant you may have to remove all the videos from your phone and try to add them again.
If i was you i would:
Back up the videos i had to my pc.
Re-install the software via OVI suite.
Then try putting one video on the phone and seeing how i went.
The problem is either with the software or a specific corrupted video causing the entire video directory not to read properly.
Try that see how you go.
    Cheers

  • Anna features lost with Symbian Belle upgrade N8

    So I eagerly upgraded from Anna to Belle on my N8. Here is a list of missing features;
    1) widget offline setting
    2) automatic wifi enable when launching the browser, store or other internet app
    3) bluetooth beep no longer present after turning off bluetooth
    4) turning wifi on doesn't automatically pair with defined access point
    5) task manager or open applications feature
    6) automatic screen blanking while placing or receiving a call
    7) wife connection drops but wifi radio stays on
    9) touching battery icon indicates remaining power (same for other icons)
Another nit, apps that were previously downloaded when they were free, can no longer be downloaded without paying. Why does the upgrade remove your apps anyway? Nokia please help restore the many features that made Anna great
