Is system temperature = northbridge temp?

Hi, guys!
After rebuilding the box the projector is in my home theater became so quiet that the noisiest thing was the HTPC...in the next room! Behind a closed door! So I started with the PSU, changing to a ThermalTake Dual2 fan, which I'll experiment with the potmeter and see how far down I can set the RPM before the PSU heatsinc gets too hot.
Then I put a Zalman flower cooler on the CPU - with my Athlon XP1800 I could set the fan speed to around 1600 RPM and still it stays at 46 C after an hour with 100 % CPU use (coding a high bitrate DiVX file just to test it). The system temp is at 34 C, but the Northbridge fan actually makes most noise of all the fans on the PC now.
Does the system temperature monitor the Northbridge temperature, so I can see there if the fan is too slow? I want to slow it down by settin the voltage to 7 V with a kit I got with another fan. Does that sound dangerous?  8)

id leave the fan alone or you may be buying a new board

  • What exactly does "system temperature" mean in bios?

    Hi.
I have a Ne0 FIS2R PCB 1 with frequent game crashes & i recently installed asetek´s watercooling kit wich is cooling the cpu & Northbridge.
The bios says the CPU is 34 Degrees Celsius which is perfectly fine.
But the system temperature says 52 Degrees.
Is system temperature the air temperature inside the case? The manual doesn´t say.
    Thanks in advance.
    /Owe
    sys spec:
    MSI Ne0 FIS2R
    P4 Northwood 3,2 GHz
    2*512 Dualchannel PC3200 PNY memory

The sys temp in the basic temp arround your mobo. (or Inside you case)
That's kinda warm, mine is 35deg/ c and the air temp is 23.

  • MSI P6NGM-L system temperature and processor fan speed

    Hi folks,
I've got a MSI P6NGM-L board that is reaching a system temperature of 46ºC-47ºC at everyday load (not playing games or doing heavy work... just browsing, email, text editor, etc). My case has got a frontal and rear 120mm (exaustor) fan, and my processor (Core 2 Duo E7200), an Akasa AK-965BL cooler. My graphics board is a XFX Geforce 9800GT with Zalman FC-ZV9 cooler. Overall temperature is just fine, except for the system temperature, that is 32ºC when the system is turned on and is cold, and reaches about 47ºC after some time and using. I disabled the onboard NVIDIA on BIOS, but that didn't make any difference. Is that temperature OK for my configuration, or somehow high?
I thought about taking off the northbridge heatsink and applying Arctic Silver 5 in it, but I don't know if that would make any difference, and it would give me a big job, because I would have to take the board off... so I don't know if it's worth.
Another question, is P6NGM-L board PWM compatible? I tried using speedfan to control the processor's temperature but it says it's at 100%, and I know the cooler is in silent operation. If so, what software should I use to control the processor fan?
    Thanks for any help

I don't have a way to measure my room's temperature, but it's quite hot... something like 26ºC.
I thought that with all the cooling I've got inside my case the system temp would get lower, but it is still the same under normal load, even since my case had only one exaustor and stock coolers.
What about the processor's fan speed? Can I really change it by software? I plan to do some overclocking, so I would like to do tests with the processor cooler in full speed... I've googled all the way around, but couldn't find substancial information about P6NGM-L support for that.
    Thanks

  • Quick Core Center Auestion - System Temperature.

What does teh system temperatur stand for?  Is it the temp of the Northbridge or the Ambient temp inside the case?

    Hi JackH,
50% during startup load or all the way for the next few hours of usage? Try updating to the latest corecenter...

  • Northbridge temps N/A using CoreCentre - K7N2 Delta Platinum

    Hi folks - first post..........
Seeing as the mobo has a fan speed monitor, does it not have the faclity to monitor the temperature of the Northbridge as well??
It's a new board and the bios is v11.2.
The board locked out on me a couple of days ago after I tried running an XP2600+ Thoroubred at 400FSB - I looked for ages on the web to find a cure then found the way to reset the board to default settings here using the start button/insert key method. Thanks for that!!
I'm now running an XP2500 Barton at 400FSB and my cpu temps are around 29 degrees C using the std retail heatsink. (moitored via CoreCentre). I'm a bit miffed that I can't monitor the Northbridge though....
    Any ideas??
    cheers
    D.

Welcome to the forum. The bios only monitors cpu and system temperatures so Core Center reports accordingly. I am not familiar with bios version 11.2. My board was delivered with version 11.1 but until recently I have been using the B30 or 11.3 bios. You may well find that Live Update will offer you an upgrade to bios version B40 (aka 11.4) until version B50 is released. Resist the temptation as the B40 version has caused stability problems for a number of users.

  • 865 PE NEO 2 Northbridge Temps Seem Fixed With BIOS 1.4

Since I updated to BIOS 1.4 it seems that the ridiculously high Northbridge temp seems to be fixed. I'm getting a report of 28 Degrees C in Speedfan. Can anyone else confirm? 8)

But MSI's release notes don't seem to indicate they fixed the NB temperature:
    AMI® BIOS  File Size  404KB
    Version  1.4  Update date  2003-8-25
    Update Description:
-Fixed Samsung 1GB DDR can't install Windows XP
    -Removed Chinese language support
-Add PCI Slo1 to Slot4 assign IRQ option in the BIOS setup
    -Fixed SATA CDROM dectect problem
-Fixed MegaRAID Ultra PCI RAID ADAPTER BIOS Ver 1.66 cannot be used
-Fixed AdvanSys PCI SCSI Bus Host Adapter BIOS v2.9Z cannot be used
Could it be something to do with your RMA'd board rather than a BIOS fix?

  • How do I monitor my northbridge temps? - P6N Diamond

That stupid little northbridge fan is stupidly loud so I'm playing with taking the fan out. How can I monitor my northbridge temps? Both my nvidia controls and speedfan give me environment and cpu and gpu, but none give me northbridge temps. Can any tell me how to monitor my northbridge temps?

You will need a thermal sensing device to determine the temperature properly but the P6N Diamond does not run really hot anyways.

  • K7N2 PC Alert System temperature

My brothers an my computer are near enough the same spec except I have an XP2800 and he has an XP3000.  We both have a K7N2 Delta ILSR motherboard.
I am using his computer at the moment an noticed his system temperature is half of what mine is?? His is only 21C whilst mine is always around about 40C is there any reason for this?
Only difference I can see is that my Mobo was made in Taiwan and his was made in China or visa versa.
Anyone have any input into this? I believe this is why my computer freezes if I set BIOS to the high settings as the system temp is getting to hot.

No need to get shirty, we just want to clarify where you are seeing your temps.
Looking at your board, I see that your chipset is passively cooled, so what is the airflow like in your case?
standard 2fans one on the front putting the air inside and one near the processor taking it outside...the case is thermaltake soprano http://specialtech.co.uk/spshop/files/detail/thermaltake-soprano-vb10b.jpg..u guys are giving me a lot of questions but I just wanted to know if the system temp isnt to high in stress or overall becase I dont know what is the upper limit for those boards(chipsets)

    NBtemp = N/A (???)
    Bios Temp:
    cpu: 49'C
    System: 49'C
So, the NB is way too hot, but not the System (is that a problem off the Bios?)
Is that Message from the Core Center or from Win XP or ...
    What schould i do?
    Greetings Tommigotchi

the temps (alarm)limit in corecenter are set to 61 cpu and 61 System. So the CC schould not be the problem.
53 for the System (NB) is hot, but not so hot that it schould be a Problem, right?
So why the Shutdown because off "abnormal" ? system temp???
(I thought MSi said that the NB with no fan is no prob in the Neo P.)

  • Northbridge Temp @ idle: 55°C !!!?

    Hi,
since some weeks my northbridge temp is 55°C... even when idle
    - i have a xaser 3 with all 7 fans running...
    - no OC
    - NB fan speed @ maximum
some time ago i had my p2.4c OC'ed to 3ghz and the nb temp was not higher than 52°C even under 100% load !
the case temp did not increase... actually it decreased because here is winter now...
    very strange, isn't it ?
is 55°C critical or still ok ?
    thx in advance...
    p.s.: my other temps (idle)
    cpu: 39°C
    sys: 34°C

I was worried about this temperature. 60° and more idle...
i've mailed the thecnical support and this is the answer:
    Dear Sir/Madam,
Thank you for contacting MSI Technical Support.
Please refer to http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/software/swr/spt_swr_list.php?kind=1 for Corecenter 1.6.0.0. NB temperature read from corecenter is a little higher. We have removed this item in new version corecenter .
You may choose other software to measure NB temperature. Sorry for any inconveninece.
Thank you for supporting MSI product. Please feel free to let us know if you still have any further issues or inquiries.
    Best regards,

So, who's right? i guess it's very curious to ensure those temperatures but if there is no capture in the northbridge where does it comes from? i've got a zalman nb47 with artic thermal paste and this temperature is still 60° or more.. i've added an akassa 400m at about 3000rpm and not lost even a degree... i've read a test on http://www.viperlair.com wher"s ther tester shows +10) when simply removed ther original thermal pad fot thermal paste...pergaps it'as a contact problem?? i'll try a thermal pad soon..

  • System crashing .. temp?

Hi Msi Forum users, I was wondering if someone would help me solve this small issue..
Ever since I've built my pc the system temperature (monitored aux in everest 5.300) is always hovering around 40c .. holding an overclock , there seems to be a crash when the system temp gets up to 42c giving me a bsod with uncorrectable hardware error.
The first thing that comes to me is why is the system temp so boiling when I have 2 case intake fans (2x80mm) and 2 exhausts (1x80mm , 1x120mm). I havn't yet replaced the thermal paste underneath the heatpipes , and they seem reasonably cold , when I feel around the board just after a crash I can't exactly feel a hot point with my skin , the components are cold , everything but the gfx card .. how that makes a difference to the crash or not if all other components are cool , is beyond me.
I've even added an 80mm fan to the mosfet's and soon adding some more heatsinks to the board. The cpu has never broke 52c when running prime95 (under water cooling) , my hdd is even running cool , although it's old I'm not sure thats the issue.
    My specs are as follows
    CPU : Phenom II 940 BE x4 AM2+
    Memory : Kingston HyperX DDR2 1066 @ 7-7-7-20-27-127.5ns @ 2volts
Motherboard : MSI DKA-790GX (Not platinum) Dual PCIE (CrossfireX)
    PSU : Atrix 720w +12v 30amps
Cooling : Thermaltake Bigwater 745 (Soon to cool also the GPU)
    GPU : Radeon HD4870 GDDR5 1GB
    Casing : Accrilic case (clear)
    HDD : Hitachi Deskstar 250GB's 7200 RPM Sata 2.0
    CD/DVD : White crap

Using a dying psu, which craps out when sytem is under load, can kill your complete system.
You say it yourself, that it Vdroops big at a given point, even the gpufan slows down when under load and your memory timings are affected.
And the fact that is does crash already without the 4870, says it all, it has had its best time.
These are all symptoms off a bad/dying psu, which isnt capable of delivering enough juice to your components.
So, no offense, stay ignorant and keep it for a while, but dont be surprised when it goes out with a bang and takes a few components, i.e. cpu/motherboard/vga and/or mem with it.
Then you'll end up with a bigger bill for repairs and it might as well be that it wont be long till it lets out its smoke and goes to the afterlife.
Watercooling your gpu will not cut it, since the gpu and rest of your system will still be fed by a bad psu.
As said, those temps are of no concern and have none to do with your problems in this case.
Here's a screeny of my temps (click it for bigger picture):
All on air and full load on gpu's and cpu (folding clients), see my sig for details.
As you can see, my temps are higher then yours, Vdroop is only ~0.02V, (set it to 1.41V in BIOS, 1.39V under full load, measured with multimeter) with a 29% OC for 24/7 and I havent got a BSOD yet.
So again, your temps are of no concern, your psu is however.
    Edit:
HWmonitor is more reliable then everest in my opinion by the way, although the 12V reading in everest is correct, for me anyway, since I measured it by multimeter (well, someone did it for me ) and got the same value .

  • Northbridge temps and the new bios update

I know the Northbridge temperature issue has been posted before. But I’m posting in relations to the new bios update supposed to be released 08/24. Will these temp issues be resolved in this new bios update?
There could be many reasons why the Northbridge temps are so high, ranging from bad heatsink design to Northbridge fan blowing too fast. Mine runs 55C idle which is way too high…but when I go to touch the heatsink, it’s barely warm. A lot of people have been complaining about the “light show” on the Northbridge, but heck I like it. I think it’s pretty cool
One last thing I’d like to bring up, this new bios update, I don’t know whether or not 1.6 supports DDR500mhz Ram (because I don’t have it yet) but will it support it? Reason being is I plan on buying DDR500mhz Ram and do some more overclocking.
1:1 Cpu to Ram ratio here I COME!!! :D

ROFLMAO  (first sign of insanity when you laugh about a such sad matter)
Maesus, its nothing personal, but do you really believe there will be a v1.8 BIOS? To me it looks like MSI has abandoned the 875P. BIOS v1.7 is supposed to come when? ...August 28th? That's 2 months since the last one and as far as I have heard there has not much changed over v1.6. When is v1.8 supposed to come? Another 2 months later? Not to speak of v1.9... That makes about 5 months to get the board working the way it was supposed to do from the first day (if v1.7 solves something at all).
Sorry, but MSI is about to lose all trustworthiness with this so called support. And moderators in a company's forum who are not even employees of that company, and have to take guesses (see Prescott support) about the products, do not help to make the situation much better (again, nothing personal). If the support team would take a look by themselves on a regularly basis (1-2 times a week) perhaps then the problems would be solved much faster. If I would work like this and not care about the customers I would have lost my job long ago.
There are still many problems. The board is on the market for some months now and memory compatibility and timings are still an issue.
I've visited many forums the last week. And I do hear (read) almost the same everywhere: Poeple who bought the 875P board say its high quality and has good features, if it only would work as supposed. MSI miserably fails to give it a working BIOS. Results in polls about "MSI 875P board good or bad" tend to be weighed horribly to "bad". Most of the ppl will never again buy a MSI board because they feel left alone with their problems.
It is clear that ppl who are satisfied do not post that in forums. But when something is wrong, they do, because they want the problems solved. But what are support forums good for when no one is listening to the complaints?
In times who prices are almost the same for the products, ppl tend to buy that product, that not only has the best features but also good support. When it comes to that MSI is not first choice.

  • System temperature

This may seem like a silly question but can anybody tell me why the K8N Neo Platinum board does not report the system temperature? I though all modern motherboards report the system/ case temperature?

I'm using a Zalman CNS700AlCu - I'd prefer the pure Cu but I picked up a pair of the AlCu ones at half the price of the Cu version.
And I've set the fan to run at 2000rpm
For the NB I used a 50mm x 10mm case fan, just like you can see in the second picture in this thread:
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?threadid=52212&sid=
And I built a small bracket to hold it a few mm above the NB heatsink as I couldn't see any way to attach the fan to the heatsink. This fan runs around 4600 rpm.
You could attach a 40mm fan, but that runs at much higher speed, it isn't really powerful enoigh, and it's very noisy.

    System temp was 46 - 49C until I rigged up a fan, when it dropped to 31 - 34C.
what do you mean by rigged up a fan?  ...
    [/quote]
see above. Pleas note these are the temps reported in HW Monitor in the bios. CoreCenter reports different (and very erratic) temperatures, plus somestimes it reports the fan rpm at around half their actual speed... I think there is someting seriously wrong with it.
I think CPU temps over mid 50s and NB temps over mid 40s are an indication of something wrong, and bad for your computer's long term health. The max I have ever seen in an nForece2 mobo is 40C (NB) and 502C (CPU) and that machine is o'clocked by 40%.
