Is't possible to get dvd subtitles into finalcut?

Hi
Im wondering if it's possible to rip subtitles from a dvd and to import them to Final cut? Would be really glad if somebody could help me to find a solution to this, would save me alot of time if i dont have to write and sync all de subtitles again for my shortfilm.
thanks

I doubt this is possible. The opposite (exporting subtitles from FCP directly into Studio Pro) isn't.

I have a pc with Windows XP. How do I import my DVD movies into iTunes? Do I need to buy additional software? Or is my best bet joining netflix?
    Thanks!

you can copy them for your own use.
Copying is not the issue. Breaking the encryption is.
But it's kind of a catch 22 in that you cannot copy a DVD unless you break the encryption.
    in Europe it is not
    Europe is not one country.
Most European countries have their own equivalent of the DMCA and it is illegal to break the encryption in some of these countries.

  • Getting DVD footage into FCP

I've got a DVD-R with my showreel burned on to it. I can play this on my Mac or on a DVD player etc but have not been able to work out how to get this footage onto my FCP in order to edit it further. If anyone can help, I would be very grateful.
    Cheers

Consider not taking the original footage back into FCP.
Demux the .vob's using StreamClip, to their native .m2v video and whatever audio format was used, and create a new DVD SP project using those ready to burn assets.
In the track view, you can trim the already encoded assets - you may need to re-render the audio, or work with audio in aiff.
Prepare new footage only in fcp, and encode in sections to new .m2v mpegs. Then, insert the newly encoded footage in with the originally encoded footage, using DVD SP as a rudimentary splice editor, in its track view. It is not frame accurate - you not be able to cut exactly where you would like to.
It will be harder this way, but, you won't loose any quality over the original DVD, becasue you never decode and re-encode the original MPEG's.
If this is too limiting, or difficult, then decode the lot and work in FCP - there will be a quality hit for decode / re-encode as David rightly says.

  • Getting DVD footage into Final Cut X?

    Hi,
I am an actor who has just got Final Cut X and want to edit my showreel on it. I have various dvds of my work. Could anyone please suggest the best way to convert the dvd and get them into Final Cut please?
    All the best, Anna

I'm trying to do the same thing.  I have an unprotected DVD which I am trying to import into Final Cut Pro X but the "free" MPEG Streamclip software which you mention says that:
"The Apple QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component is not installed...
You will miss the two most important features of MPEG Streamclip:
    - you won't be able to play MPEG-2 files and transport streams;
    - you won't be able to convert MPEG-2 files and transport streams to QuickTime, DV, AVI.
However, all other features are always available, including playback and conversion of MPEG-1 to QuickTime, DV, AVI, demuxing of MPEG-1 and MPEG-2, AC3 decoding, and conversion from transport streams to MPEG files (useful if you have Toast 6).
MPEG Streamclip is free of charge but the MPEG-2 Playback Component has a small price (around $20/£15/€20 in most countries); you can buy it online from Apple:
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/mpeg2"
Hm....How do I get the right format for FCP X?
    Thanking you.

  • How to get DVD's into Final Cut 5

I have been given raw footage of my son's wedding shot in HD and put on 5 DVD's. It is in standard definition on the DVD. How can I get it into Final Cut 5 to edit? I have always worked from miniDV tapes and am at a loss as to how to make this work. Can anyone make a suggestion.

I'm guessing the DVD's you received are playable DVDs - not just being used to hold the date from the camera - so, if that IS the case -
MPEG Streamclip can take the VIDEO_TS files from those DVDs and convert them to an editable format.
Just do a google search for it, you'll find it.
(BTW, those DVDs will be far less quality than what it was shot on if it was HD. You may want to get the master footage.)

  • How do I get DVD files into FCP for editing?

I have three DVD's that I need to get access to for editing purposes. The DVD's open and play in DVD player with no problem, but how can I import it into FCP? The files in the DVD's folder are "BUP," "IFO," and "VOB" files -- what do I do to get them into a format I can edit?
    Thank you so much!

    Oh...wait..I forgot.
    #7 DVD into FCP
    Shane's Stock Answer #7:
To start, I will state that trying to capture any DVD you bought or rented, be it a Hollywood movie or exersize video, is illegal. I will not give you any tips on how to bypass copy protection. It is there for a reason.
To capture footage from a DVD, you have a couple options.
    1) Route the DVD player to your DV camera or deck via the RCA cabling. Then you can put the footage you want ontp DV tape and have the benefit of timecode in case the need to recapture comes up.
    2) You can get a great application called DVDxDV (Google it). This opens up the DVD and allows you to convert the video to DV/NTSC footage. And it allows you to only convert what you want by allowing you to mark in and out points. The free version puts a big watermark across the center of your footage, but if you pay $25 for the standard version, that goes away.
Or you can use Mac the Ripper or Mpeg Stream clip. These are free.

  • How do i get dvd films into i movie

    ?

My goodness what a lot of work for nothing in this 6 point list.
Here is a lot easier way:
    1. Rip with MTR
    2. Open the VOB files in MPEG Streamclip (after installing the QT MPEG-2 component which you have to buy but MPEG Streamclip is free)
    3. Export from the file menu as DV.(You can set in and out points in MPEG Streamclip and thus export only a selection which is probably typical)
    4. Use the DV file in iMovie (which ONLY uses DV files).
C'mon Mr. MDN2005: You have to rip, demux, convert video then audio, extract in and out points, import video and sound separately and use 5 programs instead of two? Sure it works (maybe) but why bother? And this is beyond the ability of 99% of users with this question.
I would not convert already bad enough MPEG-2 to 3ivX to use in iMovie (which then has to convert the clips into DV and takes a long time anwyay)- two lossy codecs vs. one, really?

  • Data recovery, possible to get the file structure back as well?

    Hi Apple Smarties,
I closed my laptop lid on my external LaCie drive without ejecting the drive first (smart one!). After that the external drive wouldn't mount. I've used Data Rescue 3 to recover all the files from the drive... however it's just lumping all the files into one big batch :-( ...anybody know if it's possible to get the files into the correct files structure they were at before the drive got corrupted?
    Assistance would be HUGELY appreciated.
    Many thanks
    Kind regards
    Doug

Thank you Barry. Yes, Comcast is my mail provider. It is a POP account.
Now, if you could point me in the right direction to do that re-build, I would be ever so grateful. I did use the "rebuild" button on the Mail tool bar for that box and it did not help. Perhaps there is something else I could do?
As I mentioned, I am very new to the Mac world, and I get a little lost. Well, at age 73, I guess that's not hard to do! Been on Windows forever so lots of the terminology in Apple is quite different for me.

  • Importing Romanian Subtitles into DVD SP

I'm not able to import Romanian subtitles into DVD SP correctly.  I can see them correctly in a program on my computer called Jubler, but when I import them into DVD SP, non-English characters don't import correctly.  Any thoughts?
    Thanks,
    Gary

    Hi Nick,
I appreciate your reply, though it didn't help.  After working on it for several hours, I did figure it out however.  I'll include here what I figured out incase someone else runs across the same problem.
I found out I can do it in both Jubler (which is a free program) and TextEdit.
I Jubler, I needed to import the .stl file encoded as ISO-8859-2, and save it out in UTF-16.
In TextEdit, I had to open it as Central European (ISO Latin 2), and save it out in UTF-16, manually changing the extension to .stl.  The way to get that option in TextEdit is to go to Preferences, then Open and Save. Under 'Plain Text File Encoding' where it says 'Opening files', click on that tab.  If it's not one of the options, then select 'Customize Encoding List...' at the bottom of the list, which will open up a ton of other opions.  Check Central European (ISO Latin 2), and select it in the tab beside 'Opening files'.  Next time you open up a file in TextEdit, that will be the default for the 'Plain Text Encoding'.  When you do 'Save As', you'll need to change it to Unicode (UTF-16) and change the extension to .stl.
That took me about 5 hours to figure out.
Hope this helps someone else out.

  • Best way to get DVD into Front Row?

I have a some non-copyrighted DVD's that I would like to get into Front Row without losing the image quality.
    Any suggestions?

I just found a used hi8 camcorder locally with a dv connection so would I be better off
1)transferring 8mm cassettes into imovie as dv
    or
    2) transferring 8 mm cassettes to my standalone dvd recorder and then ripping them on mac, i have done this with one and takes about 2 hours to rip and encode however when dragging the mov file after dvd conversion into imovie I am getting a reading that it will take up to a day to import into imovie.
I know doing dv to mac is easier then #2 but this will cost me money since I would have to buy this 8mm recorder with a dv connection, will there be a difference of quality.
My goal in the end is to have these 15 home movies that are on 8mm tapes on an ext hd edited and as big as possible or good as possible in quality, then I would probably do more serious edits to them and save as smaller files for viewing either via front row or maybe even burning to dvds.

  • I have alot of loose photos at home (old) and I would love to make a bunch of iphoto books and make the pages like whole page collages?  How do I get my photos into iphoto in order to do this?  Can I make a DVD at the drugstore and add them to iphoto?

You can make the collages easily if you have iWork.  Just open a letter sized page in landscape mode and drag the photos onto the page, rotate and postiion as necessary.  Then do a Print ➙ PDF ➙ Save PDF to iPhoto to get a 200 dpi jpeg version of the Pages page into iPhoto.  From there you can add it to your book and use a blank page with the option to have an image as the backbround.
If you have a 3rd party image editor that supports layers you can create the collage with it.

  • After sorting my pictures into albums, I  deleted them from the camera roll, now they're all gone. Including the ones filed in the albums. Would it be possible to get them back ?

after sorting my pictures into albums, I deleted them from the camera roll, includings the ones filed in the albums. Would it e possible to get them back ?

A photo in the Camera Roll cannot be in an album unless the photo remains in the Camera Roll. Photos in an album or not duplicated. A photo in an album includes a pointer to the original photo stored in the Camera Roll. The Camera Roll is for temporary storage. Photos/videos can and should be imported by your computer as with any other digital camera.
The Camera Roll is included with your iPhone's backup. If your iPhone's backup has been updated to include all photos that were in the Camera Roll and has not been updated since the photos were deleted, you can try restoring your iPhone from your iPhone's backup. Do not update your iPhone's backup before doing so and decline the prompt to update your iPhone's backup as the first step after selecting Restore.
