Is T500 is good machine

Hello Friends
I was searching laptops with good specs and i came across T500 notebook. i read some reviews of it saying it has annoying keyboard flex + on the palmrest ..... and also it looks cheap from the inside ....... Can anybody let me know if it is realy comming with new laptops of lenovo that dissapointed me a lot !!!!!
r eply me guys....
Thanks

QAftw,
This minor revision would not be considered a product refresh, or version 2 as you suggest.   Products normally undergo minor revisions while in production to incorporate information derived from the field.   Product refreshes are usually timed around processor speed bumps.
From the customer view, nothing externally changes, and this update will just ensure that the keyboard has a solid feel no matter which version is used, or any other tolerances that might otherwise come into play.   This update is the long term solution based upon customer feedback on the keyboard flex concerns on the left side of some of these systems.   The tactical solution has been to build with the earlier T61 version that had the additional plate on the keyboard where possible.   This update will allow for the use of the newer, lightweight keyboard, while providing the same solid feel that customers expect.
Best regards,
Mark

  • Extremely poor performance on good machine (dual xeon, Revodrive, SLI etc.)

    Hello,
I've looked for answer, read all the articles about making better performance of PS and I still can't solve the problem... I even tried Photoshop CC and the performance was... worse. I measured time it took to open some files or make some of my actions.
Programs performance is so incredible bad, it's not even annoying it is some disaster... sometimes I have to wait more than 10 seconds for response when I'm moving a layer or few seconds when applying some very simple transformations to smart object (logo etc.). I spent a lot of money on my workstation hoping it will work smooth and fine, and it seems that it is working worse than my old machine for 1/10 of its price. I hoped that moving to Cloud will solve the problem and the new software understands better new hardware I own, but NO! as I mentioned it is working even slower.
The problem only affects Photoshop and Illustrator, After Effects run perfectly fast... but I work mostly on Photoshop and Illustrator. Most of the time both programs are opened.
Some more hardware details of my workstation:
    Dual Xeon 2630 @ 2.3 GHz
    32 GB Ram
    System Drive: PCI-E Revodrive 3 x2 240 GB
    Storage Drive: 3GB WD
Graphic Card: 2x GF GTX 680 in SLI (2GB memory each)
    System: Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit
    Adobe Suite CS 6 Master
I keep to all advices from "Photoshop performance" articles. I tried another SSD drive as scratch drive, all drivers are up to date, system is "fresh installed" without any garbage...
I'll really apreciate any good advice that could help me solve the problem, so I'll be able to work normal. Without lost hours on waiting for the simpliest actions.

I just to reinstalled drivers and NOTHING... (Latest nVidia drivers clean install)... I also looked on my resources manager and after few munutes photoshop easly uses more than 50% of avaiable RAM... when I'M working procesor usage is about 5-9% (12% was maximum) and when I run also Adobe Illustrator memory usage goes above 60% but cpu usage is still low (5-7%). I have 32GB of memory... PSD file I work on is 750MB... Maybe there is some issue with my memory, buffer or something like this? Any idea?
When I copy 1920x1080px layer from one program to the other it takes few minutes, and sometimes programes crush... even if I'm not working the memory usage is now above 60% - shouldn't it go down?
oth Photoshop and files I work on are on the same drive (PCI-E SSD OCZ RevoDrive 3x2 - so it shoulb be super-fast...).
Sorry for bad spellings - I'm so angry now!!!
    HELP PLEASE!

  • Is this a good machine that i purcahse

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/121183498776?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m143 9.l2649

    Update.
    Actually,
This iMac is a DV iMac with CD writing DVD ROM optical drive.
It's a little better model, but still not spectacular.
400 MHz CPU, can hold 1 GB of RAM and has a 10 Gb hard drive.
This model can run OS X 10.4 Tiger.
I bet still not great, but run better than on a 233 MHz CPU.
I wouldn't downgrade the OS because OS X 10.4 Tiger, while still old, can still access some of the more modern Internet with the help of more RAM installed and use of different web browsers some other substitute software.
10.3 Panther is just too old and too far back and there is virtually no more support and limited Intenet access on that version of OS X.

  • A question about my new T500...

Hello all -- I am new here, and have a quetion about my new T500:
My new machine is a Lenovo Thinkpad T500, with Vista 64 bit installed. It is a pretty neat machine, as far as I can tell so far. This is my first laptop and my first experience with Vista after years of XP. My general computer knowledge is somewhat limited.
So here is my question. All have in the machine so far is Vista and Microsoft Office Home and Student, along with whatever Lenovo preinstalls. I plan to install Photoshop CS4 and Capture NX but have not done so yet, nor have I downloaded any photos or anything. When I go into "Computer" from the start menu it indicates that I only have 99 gigs free in my 160 gig hard drive! I did a quick add up of the visible programs installed in Vista and I get only about 1.2 gigs worth, and there seems to be about another 1.5 gigs of utilities in one partition. What could be occupying the other 58 or so gigabytes??? Vista cannot be this big, can it? How can I find out what is on the HD other than the visible installed programs?
Any help with this mystery will be very much appreciated. I am mystified!
    Many thanks in advance...

I am sure this has been decribed many times ... but here it goes anyway
If the actual hard drive (*not* partition!) is 160 gig (written on it), first of all it will only have about 154Gb actual space to be used by the computer - just the thing how manufacturers count those bytes.
Lenovo has a restore partition, I don't remember the exact size (I have deleted it), but it would be around 15Gb if I remember correctly. You also have a startup partition probably (1.5Gb). You can find out what partitions you have in Computer Management. Just open Vista start menu, type in Computer Management (into the search box at the bottom), then open Storage --> Dist Management. Here you will see the partitions. You can read around these forums and other places on the internet how you can get rid of the restore partition if you really do not want it. But don't go just deleting it right away.
Vista x64 takes about a good 20 gigs on your hard drive. Do remember, that because Vista 64 includes WOW64 (Windows on Windows) that means that many things are essentially duplicated: once for the 32 bit applications and once for the 64 bit applications. That is why Vista x64 is larger than Vista x86 (32bit). However, you need x64 if you have 4Gb of RAM. However also remember, that when you look at the C:\WINDOWS folder, that inside there are also "symlinks" to files. So if you just count everything you will get a bigger size than what it actually takes up.
You have hibernation enabled (by default), so if you have 2Gb of RAMs thats another 2Gb, if you have 4Gb of RAM, thats another 4Gb of space.
The paging file by default takes up a variable amount of space, could be anything between 3-6Gb (if you have 4Gb of RAM).
So that's about it.  If you add those up (in case of 4Gb of RAM) you get about 46-47Gb of space, at least. Plus any applications and utilities, drivers, etc you have. Lenovo systems by default come with quite a few things.
Windows has probably system restore enabled, which eats up yet again hard drive space.
You can turn things off and tune your system if you really feel that you are running out of space. But until then I would not worry too much about it. You can find many guides around the internet on how to affect various things I referenced above.
If you want to see hidden files (like paging file and hibernation file) you can turn that feature on in Vista. That will certainly help you see most of the things that take up space (not everything). You can find many tutorials by googling, such as
    http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial130.html
    Hope this helps

  • The Whiner is away, how do I get a good one?

After hours on the phone with techincal and sales support, they have agreed to refund me for my machine. I finally admitted that 2500 dollars was just too much to have to deal with the inconvenience of mirror widgets and battery draining programs.
They will be placing my money back in my card as soon as my package arrives in California. I will then walk down to my local Apple store (35 minutes away) and purchase a new Macbook. According to all you people out there who claim only a small minority of macbooks whine, I shouldn' get another whiner should I? My first 2 whined, we'll see about the 3rd.
It sounds like week 12's and 11's are pretty good machines. How would one go about getting a Macbook from these weeks or one that doesn't whine?

I am not sure what all the fuss is about the whine. I can't believe some people (many people) on this forum have excahnged their machines twice, even three times in hopes of some elusive "perfect machine".
I have the CPU whine, but it goes away when I plug the machine in. If I am on battery, I just launch "Quiet MBP" and the machine is dead silent. I also have a sticky "H" key and the occasional kernal panic (this seems to be under control now).
I have not seriously thought of returning my MBP because it is a wonderful machine. I guess I am way less picky than I thought--of course I have had to work through a lot of network/computer problems in the past, so maybe I am just more tolerant. But seriously, you could go through 10 of these machines and not get the one you want. There is no such thing as perfect when you think of the extrordinarily complex tasks this (and all computers in genreral) are undertaking on a second to second basis.
P.S. I also have the tilted eject key--who cares!

  • Airport Works on 1 Machine, Does not on Another

I have 2 macs.  One of the two will not connect to the net.
Mac Number 1 connects to the net thru a wireless airport expres, everything is fine.  Other people who visit, can cnnect as well. The airport is not hidden and there is no password.
Mac Number 2 shows "Airport" turned on. But there is no list of available networks.  When I run troubleshooting the airport device shows Amber status on my mac screen.  I checked the cable modem, all lights are green.  I checked the airport, its one and only status light is green.  I don't know if this matters or not, but Mac Number 2 has never been asked to connect wirelessly, it has always had a dedicated hard wire connection, until today.  So, its not so much that it won't connect, (it won't) but it canot even "see" the wireless network that I  have, and which Mac Number one does see and connect to.
Not at all sure what I need to do, its a puzzle. Does anybody have some insight or expertise to share about this?
    Thanks if you can help!!!

PROBLEM SOLVED:  Apple Support Specialist found the answer.  Good machine picks up signal.  Bad machine does not. What is the diference?
A brick chimney between the router and both machines, which are side-by-side. Good machine must be more "sensitive" is all I can guess.  Moved Bad machine next to Airport Router, and Voila' - it works.

  • T500 Bluetooth driver upgrade problem, risk of wiping the harddrive

    Hi,
I tried to upgrade my bluetooth driver on my laptop. The upgrade failed. After that I get an error when the computer starts.
"The program can't start because btwhidcs.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem"
When I try to reinstall, first all goes well. At the last part of the installation I get an "Error 1935. An error occurred during the installation of assembly"
When I search on google this seems like a common problem. But I haven't found a solution for it anywhere.
What I did found that for some people files where deleted on the system drive when they tried to uninstall their old driver.
Here are some people that lost data on their harddrive when trying to uninstall the old driver.
    Unable to install bluetooth driver
    Broadcom bluetooth
Bluetooth with enhanced data rate software II
Bluetooth update killed my Windows 7
installation of bluetooth driver error 1935
Potential data wipe while updating x220 bluetooth driver
Widcomm uninstallation wipes out the computer
Lenovo and others seems to have suggested to uninstall the old driver when people have requested help.
    Bluetooth installation problem
Here I found some posts that might help with finding a solution. It is about kb970652. Not sure what needs to be done though.
    Error 1935
This seems like a known problem that should be fixed in version 6.4 version of the drivers.
Installation of bluetooth driver error 1935
but there is no post in the thread with the new drivers or information about them.  After a lot of searching I found a post where Lenovo went out with a warning. The warning is here:
Please note - Report - Bluetooth with Enhanced Data Rate Software II for Windows 7 wipe main drive
There are updated drivers in the post. But they seem not to be for the T500 and on the download page T500 there is no new version of the drivers.
I talked to Lenovo support a couple of times but they say they only handle hw problems. They recommended removal of devices in Device Manager, uninstall reinstall etc. But after all posts of lost data I don't want to try to uninstall if I am not sure it will not corrupt my computer. I asked them if they could forward to their team to update drivers for the t500 but they seem not to have done that.
Right now I have no working bluetooth anymore.
We have hundreds of lenovo laptops in our offices and I really would like to know if we risk risk data loss if a user uninstalls bluetooth drivers. How could we upgrade them to remove this risk?
    So my questions are:
Does anyone know what versions of the drivers are unsafe to uninstall and what versions are safe to uninstall?
How can you fix broken updates? Like on my T500. There is no new driver for it on it's download page?
What is the way to upgrade bluetooth on "unsafe" machines (where uninstallation of bluetooth would corrupt them)?

    Hello and welcome,
The last post in a long thread on this topic links to a driver for the T500 among other machines.  I haven't tried it myself.
OS wiped out during Bluetooth drivers update

  • Are any 24" iMac screens good?

I've just received my 2nd 24" iMac today and the screen is still bad. The first one had an even gradient from left to right (lighter on the left, darker on the right). The new one has a less defined brightness difference but has a very bad yellow area running vertically down the middle of the screen. I'm now wondering if I send this one back too, but are there any good ones out there or are all these iMacs suffering from screen quality problems. From what I've read I'm saddend to think it is a problem with ALL the new iMacs. The dilema I have is I need a machine and can't really afford a Mac Pro and 30" monitor. Please post with your views and experiences, might send this one back tomorrow.

Sorry, have to totally disagree with you there.
Did you actually adjust the brightness levels of the screens you were looking at, because if you didn't you won't notice anything in the stores. Also, using a blue background won't show anything either, must be Grey or White.
Also, My screen and the replacement had this issue, so did the three that were in the Apple Store in Bluewater(Kent).
Also, today, I popped into Comet and noticed they had a new 24" iMac Alu there as well. At first, I thought the picture was perfect, but nope, after adjustment to the brightness levels(Due to insane over head lighting) and a change of background colour, the Gradient issue was there as well.
Hmmm, must be a wide spread issue, because the Comet shop was at least 40miles away from the Apple Store, and even the guy in Comets saw that there was an issue with the screen.
Personally, I think one of the following options.
People are either unwilling to see there is a problem because it's Apple.
People are just oblivious to the problem because there eyes don't detect it so well and nothing to do with Apple.
People are just kidding themselves there is no problem, when I bet anyone that says they have a good machine, could well be a faulty one, especially if those that can see the problem had a look.
People have no problem and have been very lucky.
The fact Apple have said nothing, means squat. They seem to have a habit of keeping things quiet anyway.
Me, I hope they fix this problem because I really wanted a new 24" iMac, but right now, my money might end up going towards a PC upgrade.

  • Using 2 different machines with Some same files?

I recently bought a new MacBookPro because I needed a more powerful machine to handle my audio mixes in Logic 9.
My previous MacBookPro (from 2006) is still a good machine...I'd like to keep using it for Photos, I-tunes, etc., but there are some functions that I'd like to share between machines.
Is there a way to synch the 2 machines? I'm using external hard drives for my i-Tunes files & I want to do the same with i-photo & i-movie files, can these by synched between both machines?
What is the best way to work with both machines, doing some applications on one and others on the other machine, but sharing the i-Tunes library?
If there are any links on the Apple website that address these issues, I'd appreciate anyone sharing them with me.
    Thanks, Brian

This is a bit out of my area, but I think you want to share the data, not sync it.
Here's an Apple article about sharing an iPhoto library: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1198
I'm not sure just how to go about it for other purposes, but once you have sharing set up, it may be fairly straightforward.

  • Powerbook  won't charge OR run on Good Batteries despite PRAM & PMU resets

Hi All, I own 4 Macs including 2 G4 1,67ghz 15" Powerbooks. I can't get one of the units to CHARGE or run OFF GOOD batteries.(Batteries charge fine on the other unit). I have tried the following:
    1) PMU and PRAM NVRAM resets (Open Firmware)
    2) Used the same power chord on both units. Both run fine off the power chord.
    3) When I do the PMU reset, I need to reset the DATE/TIME preferences.
    4) In System Profiler, the unit recognizes both batteries, one at 99%, the other @ 87%
    5) Computer works fine so long as it's plugged in and the AC connection is maintained.
    6) Cleaned the battery contacts o the machine
When I take the power chord and battery off the GOOD unit as if I'm doing a PMU reset and hook either the battery or power chord back on it also needs a DATE/TIME preference reset. I SEEM to recall both units always doing this, but I do have a faulty memory. The good unit holds the Date/Time with the battery installed.
The simple questions : Do the need for Date/Time resets with the batteries out of both units mean bad PRAM batteries on both computers?
The harder question: Any ideas/suggestions as to what might be wrong with the bad unit? I'm guessing ? that the PRAM alone is not the issue since the GOOD machine starts up fine despite a potentially??? bad PRAM battery.
I realize the logic board might be an issue, however the machine runs fine with AC power. I did take the computer apart to replace a faulty logic board awhile back but can't remember if the problems manifested immediately and as a consequence of that since I put the unit on a shelf and didn't use it again for 6 months or so. Is there anything besides the logic board that might be faulty/disconnected preventing the computer from utilizing battery power.
Again, it SEES a perfectly fine battery. It just can't use the battery.
Thanks for any and all input. I appreciate it.
    Curtis

I happen to have two G4 1.67Ghz 15" PB's sitting in front of me too .... However, to answer your question ... If you remove the power and you remove the battery, and, when you put the power or battery back in and restart the system, and it resets the date to 1969 or some other ancient date, then yes, the PRAM battery is bad.
Now, the bad unit. There are 4 components to charging circuit: power adapter, dc-in card, battery, and logic board. With two systems, you've verified that power adapter and battery aren't contributors. The fact that it runs off wall power suggests the DC-in card is good. That leaves the logic board. Sadly, there isn't a test of any of these, so you have to do it by process of elimination. One of our PBs stopped charging a couple of years ago, and at the Apple store they said they start from least expensive and move up from there when it comes to diagnosing power issues.
The least expensive way to fix the logic board is to take it to the Apple store. For $350 or so (costs around 2X if done in store), assuming the case isn't banged up, they can ship it to the Apple Depot, who will replace whatever it takes to bring the system up to close to new. Comes back with a 90 day warranty. On the system we used this for, they replaced the logic board and battery, and it's worked fine, except it's recently developed the bad memory slot. For it's use, 1GB is OK, so it's not a big deal, although a bit disappointing (likely used a refurbished board that tested well at that moment in time).
    Good luck!

  • TS1906 Time Machine copies of Leopard to Lion (OS 10.7.4) - how to proceed?

after upgrading my MacBook from Leopard to Lion (OS 10.7.4) I now wonder what will happen when I reconnect my Time Machine's external disk to my laptop.
just before signing out of Leopard I had Time Machine do it's thing (that is just let it do a 'full run' - not making a full backup, I'm afraid...).
now I want to have my folders, files and other stuff back into my clean & empty Lion-ed MacBook, but I dare not just hooking up TM's extarnal disk with the laptop - not knowing what will happen then (I'm always very afraid, something desastrous might happen....)
can anyone tell me about your experiences in this situation / what to do / how to proceed?
    thanks in advance
    Guus

The very early 2006 MBPs are limited to Snow Leopard (10.6.8).  If your MBP is a model Identifier 2.1 or 2.2, then you can install Lion (10.7.5).  Note that the transition to Lion might mean that some applications will not be compatible so updates or substitutions would be needed.
I have a 2006 MBP, Model Identifier 1.2, and it is running Snow Leopard very efficiently.  It is just a bit slower than newer ones, especially in the graphics area.  Otherwise is is a very good machine.
    Ciao.

  • Best machine for Creative Suite?

Hi, I'm about to create a machine (PC not Apple) for Adobe Creative Suite. What are the considerations for such a machine? I'm thinking of processor speed, cache memory, RAM, video, and hard drive space. What would a "very good machine" contain? If this question has been asked before, I missed it, sorry.
    Thanks for the help, larry.k

    To your list add
    * hard drive technology
    * hard drive speed
    * hard drive configuration (RAID etc.)
    * number of hard drives
These are all extremely important factors in performance, much
overlooked because many people think of hard drives as generic.

  • One machine connecting very slow on home network

    Hi,
I have what appears to be a werid situation. I have, at this very moment, an iBook G4, an iMac G4 and an iMac G5 all connected via Airort (Extreme) to an Airport Express (which is on the net). The iBook and the iMac G5 all connect quite quickly (2 Mbps). The iMac G4 connects at less then 20 kbits per second.
There appears, I think, to be some networking setting "out of whack" which is causing it to network very slowly. (or, another possibility, is that the Airport card is damaged).
I have looked (by comparing the sick machine to the good machines) at every network setting I could think of, but, to no avail.
I have all three machines side by side. I am running a DSL speed test. The two good machines clock in at 2 Mbps, the sick machine at 20 kbps.
They are all using Airport (Extreme) to talk to the same AE.
    Weird.
    Tom

    Follow up information...
When I chcked the "Interference Robustness" option on the Airport menu item, the problem resolved itself. The iMac G4 is now as fast (over 2 Mbps) on my DSL connection as the iBook G4 two feet to the left and the iMac G5 two feet to the right.
Odd as it seems, three machines on a desk, one required that option the other two did not.
    Tom

  • Using Time Machine/Time Capsule bu to restore second machine

    Simple question, hopefully simple answer.
I have a PPC G5.(Machine 1) Good machine. (Thought I had an i/o error -36 but turned out to be spare drive--not the Time Capsule. Installing system on THAT drive resulted in flashing icons.) But still, as I will be moving soon, my girlfriend and I will have a total of 3 computers and for space reasons I may need to give up the oldest one and keep my MACBOOK PRO (Machine two) So my question:
    1) If I make sure all the original programs on machine 1 are on machine 2 (at least the essential ones), can I take the backup for machine 1 (PPC) and restore it to the nearly empty machine 2?
    2) In other words, can I take a backup from an old PPC machine and, using restore, can I thus create a pretty similar replica of what was on it on a new machine (INTEL)?
    Thanks.

I did a restore using Application manager and it hung for two hours with one minute remaining with unsatisfactory results---some stuff not making it, some programs not working. I want to rinstall a new system over the new machine and bring over stuff I need by hand.
Presumably some folders under MAC HD
But what exactly MUST me moved-->
Library (at first level inside HD)
    System (anything in there?)
And then IN users, I want to move stuff too (from one of two users)
    MOVIES
    Yet ANOTHER LIBRARY????
    MOVIES
    MUSIC
    DOWNLOADS
    DOCS
    PICS
    All selectively?
Thanks for advice and any caveats
    Old machine PPC G5 Tower
New Machine Intel Mac Book Pro
Also, the new machine has a slightly lower space so I MUST be selective.
Both machines will be same system (latest)

  • Having a real problem with this machine.

I've had this machine since May and for the most part it's been a good machine.
But lately I can't get a thing done. I've been getting Kernel Panics, constant freezes and a few times at start up, a lock up with code running from the left side of the screen across my desktop pic.
While working in Photoshop I can expect to lose my work to a random freeze.
Evidently surfing doesn't give me grief, but I have to work and I can't get a thing done without this trouble. QuickTime causes me trouble randomly also.
It seems expecting any kind of performance from this thing is giving it a hard time.
I leave the machine on 24/7 and today when I came home, it was off, leading me to believe that after a while of locking up for no reason it shut itself down.
I've done the Disk Repair, the extended Hardware test, with everything passing, created a new user and new preferences (have not brought fonts over to new user) and am getting no relief.
I have a WD Raptor as my start-up and the stock 250 as slave for data.
Running 10.4.3, 2.5 GB of Ramjet RAM.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thanks.
    -Vincent

    Hey Brett,
Yeah I'm running QT 7.0.3... but would this cause me the grief I'm experiencing even when not running it?
I've reseated the memory, dusted things off while I was in there and I'm still experiencing frequent Kernel Panics and lock-ups.
Is there any other tasks I can perform beyond what I've already done that might make it clearer whether this is software or hardware?
    Thanks.
